I came by in the evening to have keys cut.* They were friendly, fast, and inexpensive. I'm glad to support a local business that manages to cram stuff into every nook and cranny of the store. *And yes, of course the keys work. read more

Believe me, if I could negative stars...I would without a question. I went in and needed dry wall anchors, but wasn't sure the size I needed. The owner, who lazily sat on a stool at first refused to get up to help me and said "go look over there." After doing me the incredible favor of actually doing his job, he finally does. He then patronizes me and tells me "why don't you know what you need?" Unbelievably rude and condescending. He then tried to insult me by saying I was gay. Homophobia has no place in this city and I urge you to not shop here. Mayday Hardware is over on Washington Ave. It's a 5 minute walk from there, but owner isn't a rude bigot. He should be ashamed of himself. read more

The hours listed are incorrect. I'll try to get correct hours and then I'll up my review. I listed three stars because they fulfill the minimal requirements of a hardware store. What you see is what you get and there is no one else close by. Don't get keys made here or anywhere other than a real locksmith. They all don't work. I tried from here and another place nearby. Surprisingly, those overpriced key machines at Rite Aid work amazing. They're just double the price. read more

Only been there once so far. So this rating and review may be revised. Pros: It's close. Its open on weekends and stays open late-ish. It's got some basic hardware suppliers we need for basic home repairs. Cons: it's small. Very small. Surprisingly small. It has limited inventory. Small stuff only. It has a staff who is more interested in whatever soccer match is being played on the mini-TV behind the register than helping the customers. Which is a bit of a drag. There's nothing better than one of those neighborhood hardware stores that surprisingly carries everything where you get to know the staff and they're super friendly and go out of their way to help you out. This is NOT one of those places. read more

Super friendly staff. I have been here almost 10 times in the past month to get various things having just moved to the area. I have been able to get everything I have needed from screws, to clips, trash cans, cords, etc. It's a simple & convenient neighborhood hardware store. read more

This is a review only for their key making services, not the quality of their products, of which they might be a fine establishment. Needed an emergency key made yesterday, so when the man charged me $4.50 for a single sided key, I figured it was worth it, especially because it was a Sunday. Then when I got home, the key didn't fit in the lock. I looked at the two keys side by side and was able to see the slight divet in the metal that was causing the problem. I immediately went back to the store 20 minutes later, only to find that they were closed, half an hour earlier than noted on google (7 pm) and 3.5 hours earlier than listed on yelp (9 pm). I was frustrated, but figured that since it was a family owned business and a probably a slow night, it made sense they would want to duck out early. My main frustration stems from the fact that when I went back this morning at their scheduled open time (9 am), they still were closed. I waited for 10 minutes, then asked the shop owner next door what time they usually open up. He told me 9:30, which means that I now have to pay to get a key made elsewhere during my lunch break because I needed the key today. Turns out, I should have just done that in the first place! Additionally, they are listed as being a 24 hour locksmith, but when I called the number both at night and in the morning the phone just rang and rang and rang. I know that $4.50 is not a lot of money to flush down the toilet. Just wished they were able to do as advertised, during the times in which they advertise to do it. read more

I should have read the reviews, but I wanted to give mom-and-pops my business. Bought a keyed lock/handle for the back door, and had a bunch of copies for the new lock made, along with multiple sets of keys for other locks. The new lock was garbage (should have known for $15), but they refused to return it. Lost $15 right there. Refused to take back the multiple copies of keys I made. More $$ lost. *Grudgingly* agreed to retool the sets of keys for the front door. "I just work here," was the constant reply. Oh yeah? Well not for too long, if everyone keeps taking their business to Lowe's like I did (where I bought and a perfectly good lock). read more

Read the negative reviews but thought I'd still give them a shot and get my keys copied here since it was the closest within walking distance.. big mistake. Got 3 copies made and 2 of them did not work. Went back in to get an exchange and got complaints from the workers there saying there's something wrong with the lock and not with the key. Would not recommend this place at all. I try to take each review with a grain of salt but this place truly lived up to its (negative) hype. read more

If you're a woman, go down to the hardware store on Bergen. These guys were not helpful, they were sexist. Their store is a mess.

This is a wonderful neighborhood hardware store. They are incredibly helpful, knowledgeable, and friendly. Plus they are open on Sundays which is rare for the neighborhood hardware store. Highly recommended! read more

I love this place - the guy always has an answer for me - whether he's carrying the items or not. He's given me great references for locksmiths, etc. in the neighborhood. Just a pleasure to shop in, too - well organized and carries a ton of items you didn't even know you needed (or could get at a local hardware store). read more
