When the person came for installation, the top lock seemed to stick somewhat badly, making it difficult to turn and lock/unlock, whereas the original lock had aligned quite well. He asked me for some WD-40, which I fortunately had, and applied that and insisted it'd be fine within a day or so. After several days...it still wasn't. I had paid cash per request and was a bit nervous, but was ultimately able to get them back out to adjust the lock so that it closed properly a few days later. The repair/reinstallation didn't take much time, and left me wondering a bit why it couldn't have been done properly the first time, but hey, ultimately they fixed it and it works fine now, so really no harm.

Randomly started calling locksmiths and got some outrageous prices or calls went str8 to VM. Allen at Lehman Locksmith picked up and was kind enough to give me his cell number to send him a few pics and a quick video of what I was dealing with. He called me back within five minutes, diagnosed a temporary fix over the phone so that I could get in/out until he could come by and replace the freakin lock entirely. Both were hardware stores that offered key copying services. Both hardware stores (Tarzian and Lehman Locksmiths) in Park Slope failed to copy the keys correctly--the key didn't work on either door with the keys made from Lehman. The key would only work on the outside door with the keys made from Tarzian. I actually had Tarzian try twice and both attempts were a failure. Finally went to All Security and he carefully made the keys once and they worked in both doors. Great local place specializing in keys and locks. Highly recommend over hardware stores or less specialized shops. Cash only.

Tony saved the day!!…read more Got locked out of my apartment tonight. Keys in hand, the lock itself seemed to be stuck, but with a quick call All Security Locksmiths saved the day. They answered right away and came straight over. Tony got me back into the apartment in legit two minutes flat, was able to explain what the problem was, and filed down the part of the door frame that was causing the snag. He was transparent and fair in the pricing and quick and efficient in his work. Highly recommend for anyone in a pinch. I will be shouting this company's name and singing their praises from inside my home now. :)

I hired Brooklyn Heights Locksmith based on their quick availability, reviews and a phone quote of…read more$225. They asked for a photo of the lock, which I didn't have, so I sent a stock image of a similar metal door and explained that the key was getting stuck on both the inside and outside locks. They failed to mention that this would require replacing two cylinders -- which, in hindsight, makes sense, but it would've been good to know upfront. The work took 20 minutes or less, but the final invoice came out to over $859. They explained the charges: two cylinders, labor, and a $65 "alike keys fee," plus tax. After some back and forth, they agreed to lower the total to $786. I don't need to be a locksmith to know I was overcharged. Later that same week, while getting the apartment ready for a renter, I needed a lock replaced on another door. This time, I went with a locksmith recommended by a property manager. He charged significantly less. I asked what he would've charged for the original job, and his quote was $350 plus tax -- all included. Needless to say, I've found a new locksmith. I won't be calling Brooklyn Heights Locksmith again.
