It has been over 48 hours since my last visit to Thread It and I feel I have provided enough time for someone from the business to contact me to try and resolve the situation that I will clearly describe below. Hearing nothing, I am posting this review.
On Monday February 3rd, I called Thread It and spoke with the owner, Janea Smith. I had questions about how they go about shortening the sleeves on a long sleeved men's dress/casual shirt. I questioned the process of shortening at the cuff versus shortening where the sleeve meets the shoulder. She convinced me that the best way to accomplish the alteration was to shorten at the cuff. We went in to fair detail about the process. Our discussion lasted long enough where I felt confident that they knew what they were doing.
I took the shirt in on Tuesday February 4th and was fitted by one of their staff.
They called me on Wednesday February 12 to let me know the shirt was ready. I went in that afternoon. They insisted I try it on before leaving. When I tried it on I realized that not only were the sleeves too short, the sleeve placket (the slit opening in the sleeve that allows you to roll it up), was missing, entirely. Even the extra button to close the placket opening had been removed. No button hole, nothing. It was gone. Only the part of the placket that looks like a little house was left on the shirt sleeves. Tucked right up against the cuff. When I insisted that this wasn't at all what I expected based on the phone conversation I had with Janae, they told me they could try to put the placket back on but they had cut off the fabric and might not have enough to replace the placket as it was when I brought the shirt in. The owner, Janae Smith stood at their counter and stated, "oh yes, we had a phone conversation about that." In addition, the staff person mentioned that they leave extra fabric in case it needs to be let out some. I left the store with somewhat mixed expectations.
After not hearing from them for nearly two weeks, I called them on February 25th. I was told that they are training a new person and showing them how to correct the cuff/placket and it would be a couple more days. They called me on February 27th to let me know the shirt was ready.
I went in to pick up the shirt on Friday February 28th. The placket had been replaced but it was an inch shorter than it was when I took the shirt in and the sleeves were still too short. I was told this was all they could do. I left the shirt with the staff person who told me that the owner would email me to discuss. Later that day, I received a call (message) from Janae stating that what they did was "industry standard" and that was all they were going to do for the shirt.
I returned to the business on the morning on Monday March 2nd. I took with me a screen shot of the actual shirt from the internet along with photos of several of my long sleeved dress shirts. I also included information from an alteration website stating that the "Industry Standard" for placket length is 6 inches. The placket on the shirt they altered was an inch shorter than "industry standard". While an inch doesn't sound like much, the shirt sleeves look unprofessional, poorly designed and rolling up the sleeves is not an option.
I suggested to Janae that this was unacceptable based on the discussion that we had on the phone. She insisted that there were miscommunications and that it wasn't their fault. She then accused me of coming into her business and degrading her business and staff. I basically told her that she has two options. 1) They could pay me for my ruined shirt and keep it or 2) they could keep the shirt that they ruined and I would walk out a very unhappy and upset customer.
Clearly as you read this review, you can see that Janae chose the latter and kept my shirt and sent me away an unhappy and very upset, now former, customer. I will not return to this business for any reason and will certainly share my experience with anyone that asks me for a recommendation. read more
