I have to shout-out Katie and Eleanor + the crew at Something Blue. My first experience at a completely different bridal shop had felt a little all over the place, rushed & way too invasive in personal space for my liking. This was the second bridal shop I had tried to find a wedding dress (something I wasn't even convinced I really wanted). That was until I met Katie in a last minute Saturday morning try on appointment with my future mother-in-law in attendance. She was very friendly, straight forward & made this visit effortless. The experience was comfortable and felt undemanding. What surprised me is; I got a dress that 100% loved on the hanger but was not what I thought I wanted AT ALL! However; when I put it on, I just absolutely loved how fun & unique it was! I'm glad Katie was so honest and had me try on different styles to rule some out. My only hope is that I can convince my fiancé to come try on tux's. I would recommend this business to anyone! Side note; this was an old bank & the vault inside is super cool. read more

The customer service yesterday, 10/24/21, was amazing! There were at least 3 brides trying on dresses with one consultant ensuring we were all attended to thoroughly in a enthusiastic and personable manner, sharing pointers on how to pose for pictures and fun tidbits from her recent wedding (Disney!). Every staff member was welcoming and kind, I highly recommend Something Blue to anyone shopping for a bridal gown! The sales are amazing as well! read more

The seamstress who altered my gown ruined it. She made it way too small (then told me I had gained weight when I actually had lost 3 pounds) and did not alter the interior corset correctly. So the corset popped open as soon as I moved and it pulled and cut into me through out my entire wedding and reception. We couldn't even get the corset to hold for a single photo. I looked like I had huge fat rolls and there was no support for my breasts so the dress looked saggy. On top of that, I asked for the straps to be sewn on and they were, but not anchored to the front of the dress and one popped off within 45 minutes. She also shortened it WAY more than I had asked. We bought the dress there and the dress itself was $1200 and it was beautiful. The owner had said the week before that they didn't ever charge more than $1,000 for a dress, but it was a beautiful gown so we bought it. And paid the $1200 which was a little over our budget. What a shame the seamstress ruined it. I was GREATLY uncomfortable in the gown which cut into me so much that I had marks on my skin even after an hour of having it off. The gown looks like crap in all my wedding photos and that is directly the fault of the seamstress. I recommend the gowns at the store and they carry some nice stuff for decor, but DO NOT have your dress altered there, their seamstress will ruin it. I did talk to the seamstress and the owner about the horrible alterations, but neither one offered to do anything about it and refused to refund any of my money for the alterations. Something Blue, in its new location in Nevada, Iowa, is an extraordinary store! It's huge--full of dresses--but also light, airy, and beautifully decorated; a joy to experience. My husband and I were shopping for a mother-of-the-groom dress, and Katie found gowns in the back to add to the dresses I chose to try on. She was super helpful! I found the perfect dress--we all agreed on it, including Katie, and it was not the most costly. I absolutely love the dress and can't wait to wear it. But two things are especially great about Something Blue: first, the fact that I could try on seventeen dresses all in my actual size (6-8), rather than have to imagine what an enormous dress clipped to fit my body might look like, as was the way in other bridal stores. The second great thing was Katie. She was fun, outgoing, professional, positive, easy to work with, and made the whole experience really memorable. I cannot recommend Something Blue highly enough! read more

Well they have two of the BEST seamstresses in the Des Moines metro area Jodie and Eleanor are fantastic! Beyond all of the apparel the decor consignments they have are a great opportunity for brides to purchase decor used at receptions at greatly reduced costs and allows married brides to recover some of their costs. It's a win win for all parties involved!! The BEST part of Something Blue and The Parlour however is the FANTASTIC OVER THE TOP customer service that you will encounter from every single employee!! They are all simply the best!! Katie Clement has not only selected great employees, but she has trained them to be the best in the industry! I've had my prom dress in the closet for years & when I moved, I needed it gone after many failed attempts on selling sites. i went into here thinking they take prom dresses. apparently it is by appointment which seems a little ridiculous to make an appointment for them to take two seconds to look into the dress & offer something. secondly, i was told it isn't prom season. but theres a few proms i'm aware of this weekend so i'm not sure how it isn't prom season. i then asked if they could disguard of it. they said they only had small trashes, so i took it to another dumpster. pretty disappointing they couldn't take it to even donate or something. i would have donated it if places were currentlt taking donations due to covid. read more

Amazing staff!!! That are willing to help and show you what you are looking for or finding suggestions. They have a great stock of bridesmaid dresses, wedding dresses , and prom dresses. Their prices are great as well!!! They keep products affordable!!! I purchased my gown here for a military ball and they were able to find me accessories as well. All which are appropriate under the standards of these events!! I will definitely come back and bring a few of my friends who are brides to be!!! read more

I am absolutely heartbroken and blown away by this company. Back in the fall, I turned my wedding dress over to this company to be sold in hopes that I would make half of the profit off of the sale. Every few months, I am responsible to pay a $5 fee in order to keep my wedding dress at this store. A few months ago, I called in to pay my $5 fee. The girl on the other end of the phone showed me how to login to my account on the computer and make sure that my $5 got paid. I have consistently done this since the fall. Today, I called the company to make sure that I was up to date with my $5 fee. I was told that my last $5 payment was never received and that I am NO longer the owner of MY wedding dress. My wedding dress now belongs to Something Blue and I will no longer make any profit from the sale of the dress. Not once did Something Blue take the time to make a phone call to me and let me know that they did not receive my $5 payment and that I would be losing the rights to my own wedding dress. Essentially, I handed them a wedding dress that I paid thousands of dollars for so that they can sell it and make the money off of it. They essentially took this dress from me without showing any sort of courtesy to those who are giving them business. I understand that there are contracts with things like this and that I am responsible to pay my $5 every few months. On my account, it currently says that I do not owe anything to Something Blue. The girl that taught me how to check my account said that it would tell me online when I owe the $5. Still to this day, it says I do not owe any money. The manager went on to tell me today that there's she's not willing to help me out at all and that I should have read the contract. I am truly heartbroken by my experience with this company! read more

GREAT place to find home decor, event decorations, formals and wedding gowns HOWEVER not just wedding stuff. I have gotten all sorts of decorations for my office and gifts for other. Prices are reasonable and staff is GREAT. Every time I'm in Ankeny I make sure to stop by and see what's new. You can also consign your stuff there. We needed some last minute decor and my mother needed shoes! They have an eclectic and fun collection that I enjoyed perusing through. We found everything we needed, but I imagine if I didn't I could come back another time. The owner said it changes and turns over all the time! Best of all, I wanted a veil all this time but felt they are too expensive for so little fabric. They have a beautiful selection and I found one! So happy! unfortunately I didn't have the greatest experience going to something blue. I drove over 2 hours to go to this store because I had heard such great things. When I arrived Elanor greeted us, she very rudely said "We don't consign on the weekends." I was obviously upset because we just drove 2 hours so I explained that to her. She then replied " Well before you said that I was going to say I will look at it anyways." she took my Oleg Cassini dress over to the counter, didn't take it out of the bag and turned to us and said were not interested. I was frustrated so I went to the car and started to cry because I had been messaging back and forth with a katie and she was the one that told me to bring my dress in. My mother was with me so she went back in and explained to Elanor that I had been emailing with Katie, She changed her attitude really fast and came outside and offered to look at the dress again. We went back inside, As she was trying to undo my bustle on my dress she was being a little rough and 3 holes just happened to appear! She said we can't take it because there are holes! (side note my dress was in a preservation kit which came back with an inspection with no holes, Also to get my dress out of the preservation kit i took it to a local wedding shop and they removed it for me and inspected it, no holes were found then either) I don't think that she intentionally made the holes, but I also paid a couple thousand dollars for my dress so I am definitely not happy. We did reach out and spoke with Katie, she apologized for the experience and was extremely friendly. she offered to see if she could fix the dress. A day later I got a call saying there was nothing she could do and that Elanor is like family to her and she just doesn't see her acting that way. We have tried to reach back to Katie but have not gotten any return calls. I am just frustrated because I am now left with a dress that had no holes when it was brought into the store. We do have photos of the dress before we brought it in. Just wish there was a better Solution. read more
