This is long and doesn't even include everything because I could write an entire book about how awful our experience was, but then we'd be here all day. So...we unfortunately had the worst experience of the entire wedding process at Schaffer's Bridal. We chose to get our suits for the bridal party from Hal Wilson with H3 Custom Clothing. He works directly out of Schaffer's. We had heard wonderful things about Schaffer's and felt that Hal was very knowledgeable about his suits when we first met with him in January. Sadly, absolutely everything was downhill from there. First of all, he doesn't record details from your meetings and conversations. He never had any recollection about anything we talked about. It was like starting over at every meeting, text, or phone call. Hal broke down the prices for the suit, shirt, and tie when we committed to working with him. When we received the suits, he told us that our payment was ONLY for the suits, which is not what we discussed. The rental shirt and tie would be another $75 and then tailoring on top of that.
Hal originally told us that we could have our bridal party choose if they wanted to purchase or rent their suits, which we loved because we knew some already had similar suits and others would want to keep their suit. Upon actually ordering them however, Hal said that the two suits are not the same. Who would want two completely different suits in their bridal party?! We then chose to purchase our suits because the purchased ones looked much nicer. I wanted to embroider my father's tie with a personal touch from me as his gift, so we chose to purchase his tie as well as my fiancé's and rent the rest. Hal said this was no problem. When I went to pick up these ties to get embroidered, Hal said he didn't have them because the ones we picked out were rental only. We had discussed multiple times how I was planning to embroider the tie, and I wanted to buy it for my father's gift. Again, apparently you cannot purchase and rent the same tie (which he told us we could), so we had to pick out all new ties to order. At this point, we were running out of time before the wedding to put in the order, get them personalized, and sent to our bridal party. After much stress, we got ties ordered. Hal had them overnighted so I could get them to the embroidery the next day, as we had previously planned. However, they didn't show up until 3 days later!! I had to make other arrangements to get them delivered and embroidered. I hope to be able to get the embroidery done before the wedding.
Shortly after, Hal said our suits would be in that week and would give me a call when they came in. The week passes and no call from Hal. When I called to check, he said he didn't know what happened and that they would be in by Friday, maybe Monday and Tuesday at the very latest. Wednesday comes along....and no call from Hal. I call again to check and he says they should definitely be here by Friday, maybe Monday. Spoiler Alert!!! They didn't come by that date. My family lives out of state as well as a couple members of our bridal party. They made plans for a trip to Des Moines to pick up their suit and get alterations. Unfortunately, Hal screwed up the suits so badly that their trip here was wasted (after already being 2 weeks late coming in!!) and we had to make arrangements to ship them once they arrived. Not only that, but once they got their suits, two groomsmen couldn't even button their pants because they were so small, and another had 4 extra inches on his. When I alerted Hal to the fact that one of our men measured at a 30" waist and Hal ordered a 34," Hal said that was intentional. He said that every suit coat comes with a predetermined pant size. So what's the point in taking their measurements?!? Why the heck would you order pants that are 4" too big or so much smaller they can't even be buttoned?! We did not pay over $300 per suit to be given crappy, ill fitted suits, that were 3 weeks late getting to us. Hal was extremely rude when we confronted him about this and did nothing to try to remedy the situation. We now have to order new pants for several of our groomsmen and ushers. We found the same exact pants online so will be purchasing them in the correct size. Fingers crossed they ship quickly and we can get alterations before the wedding!! I will NEVER recommend H3 Custom Clothing to ANYONE and it makes me nervous to work with Schaffer's for anything either. If Schaffer's knew what was good for them, they'd get Hal out of there ASAP. read more
