Quite pleased with this place- definitely fits the average student's budget. Went here with friends for Sunday brunch because the line was too long at Nita's. We shared a chocolate chip pancake (really as big as a large dinner plate), spanish omelet (very tasty- fresh tomatos and peppers!), and a belgian waffle. Of the three, my favorite was the omelet. The waffle tasted like it was made with pancake batter, and wasn't that crispy. On the whole- a very homey place to go with your friends or take your parents for breakfast. read more

Solid diner. Food is good, portions are huge (definitely get a side of bacon! ), and prices are reasonable. The service is average, and there's very little atmosphere, but it serves its purpose well! read more

Huge portions. Delish! I love the omelets. I think giants in the land could ear here and be satisfied! I love the sunflower bread too

This was a great diner breakfast! I have never taken home leftovers from breakfast before. Sayin the portions are large is not even appropriate. Absolutely huge portions! I got an omelette, home fries and a side of bacon. Usually, restaurants give you 4-5 slices of bacon. This place gave me about a half of pound! And it was crispy and delicious! The pancakes that passed by my table were the size of a hubcap, and looked absolutely delicious. The decor is kind of a regular diner. I sat in the front. It looked clean and well cared for. The staff were a well oiled machine. They were extremely busy, but the staff remained friendly and gave a "not in a rush" vibe during interactions, even though they were running around. I will definitely be back! read more

A quick ride from UConn this diner (luncheonette) is a great place to go for lunch if your student is looking for a break from campus. Turkey club with avocado and chicken club were super huge. Bread was especially notable. Could only finish half but leftovers made a great dinner! Staff was very friendly, too. read more

Wow is all I can say. Ordering like I typically do, I requested two sides of bacon with my egg white omelette. The omelette was incredible, and not just the flavor. It was about 5 inches wide by 11 inches long and 2 inches thick... Simply incredible. The two sides of bacon had to have been at least 6-8 ounces pre-cooked per side. I have never seen anything like it. Thank you for a spectacular brunch! I probably will not need dinner this evening! read more

Service was very friendly and fast. However, the breakfast was simply not good. Every single item I tasted was unappetizing: quiche was stale and thin with more cheese piled on top than actual quiche filling, fruit cup was soggy and tasted strongly of preservatives, hash brown was too oily, coffee tasted burnt, etc. I am baffled and highly disagree with those who say it's good quality for the price. Sorry, won't return. read more

Best breakfast, amazing prices, good service! My favorite breakfast place in town. Love their portions - they're HUGE so they're usually shared. read more

This is my favorite breakfast place in town. Excellent portions for low prices and the food is great quality. Timing is everything when visiting this place on the weekend. Arrive too late on a Saturday/Sunday morning and you'll be waiting in line for a table. But the turn around on food and tables is fast. The coffee is good, too. Everything you want in a dinner. read more

Some of those bad reviews made me laugh. I read some before I posted I've been there before the new owner bought it and she COMPLETELY turned that place around while keeping the risk of bad history associated with the name. The food and service are amazing and if you don't go you are missing out.., read more

Visiting from Texas, about to make Connecticut our new home. Looked for a good place to grab breakfast, this place came up on the Yelp feed and I am so glad it did! Huge Delicious Portions!!!! The guys in the back definitely know how to work the line from the tickets coming in, to those home fries sizzling on the flattop. I can honestly say this is my first experience at an "Authentic" American Diner (We've lost that touch in Texas) I will certainly be back. Seriously a stellar value, awesome service, and a Huge delicious meal. #Win #KeepEarning #Respect read more

This is mine and my boyfriend's favorite place to go for breakfast. I've been going here for over a year and have decided to finally leave a review. The prices are very fair for how much food you get. The pancakes are huge and the bacon is actual bacon! If you are in the area definitely stop in. You won't be disappointed or hungry afterwards! read more

Love how they use real baccon, good portions, fair prices on most things. Drinks are expensive. Wait staff are great, only complaint for me would be it could be cleaner and I hate how they put a spoon in your coffee cup before your coffee....no idea if that spoon is clean. Parking can be diffficult, but that is just the location, nothing they can do about that. All in all, a decent place for breakfast! read more

Long wait. Mediocre food. Rude waitresses. Extremely loud. Apparently they ran out of ice and their soda machine was broken. This diner is really understaffed. I counted 4 waiters/waitresses for about 30 tables. The cook screams out names almost constantly instead of simply ringing a bell. Definitely find a Denny's or another local diner to go to if you want some decent service and food. read more

Thread City Diner - Diners Near Me - Willimantic, Connecticut

The pancakes are the size of an LP and always provide me with at least two breakfasts. The bacon, egg and toast breakfast (with hash browns) overflows the plate and always gives me enough for a second breakfast. (The Hobbits would approve!) Overall the food is decent, if not spectacular, and you'll lever leave the place hungry. read more

This is a loud, chaotic old-school breakfast joint. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but it might help to bring lowered expectations (and a big appetite). TCD is located in an ancient storefront on Willi's main street. Parking is available on-street (good luck), or in the Willi Brew lot next door. If both places were to be open at the same time, you'd probably have to take a cab to the place, as the Willi Brew lot completely fills up during Thread City breakfast hours. All of the usual breakfast items are represented on the menu. Beware the pancakes...as big as a hubcap! And that's kind of what makes one overlook the general low-rent atmosphere of the place -- you're not paying for atmosphere, you're here for the big breakfasts. And they're big. Usually that's to compensate for poor food, but not here. It's actually pretty darned good, in that diner food kind of way. But it's not exactly cheap, until you see the size of the plate you ordered. That's the strangest part of TCD, the pricing. It's all over the map. An add-on of a meat side might be half the price of a side dish, or not. You gotta poke around the menu for different options. Some stuff seems way too expensive for a diner breakfast, but then you get your big plate. For instance, a couple of eggs and a side of hash and a cup of coffee will cost you a bundle...but there is a special with a couple of eggs, a side of hash, and a cup of coffee that will save you five bucks. Again, check out your options before ordering. All that stuff aside, food is quite good. My Western Omelet (with a side of salsa) rang in at nearly $10, but it was HUGE. Looked like a four-egg omelet, way more than I could eat. A very generous side of home fries overflowed the place, along with big thick slices of home-madey looking rye bread. It wasn't just big, it was hot and very good. A good suggestion for two or three people is for one to order a full breakfast, and the others order al la carte, then split up the sides. The only other thing to address is the diner itself. The big, open room is noisy, with walls covered in historic Willimantic artwork. A smaller dining room adjoins the main area, but the service area and kitchen are right there with you. You'll hear the cooks yelling at the servers, you'll see the rough and tumble action of hash-slingers. It's all good. It's one of those places you like despite itself. read more

It's a tie between this place and Nita's down the street as the best breakfast restaurants in this area.... Problem with Nita's is the incredible long wait.... Thread City has the biggest plate sized pancakes.... Huge portions... Fresh breads.... Awesome staff read more

Good greasy diner food. After a long night at Uconn or Eastern my friends and I always end up here in the morning. Its pretty standard diner food, nothing out of the ordinary. The waitresses are always polite and fun. The omelettes are enormous. I've never been able to finish one, so they're good for taking home too. read more

Fantastic place for breakfast! The food is delicious and very reasonably priced. The staff is always very friendly (even during those super busy times). The pancakes are HUGE and delicious! Perfect place for a quick, quality breakfast. read more

The reviews here are pretty much spot on. Huge portions and poor / rude service. The food is average at best. I've been here a few times and it's the same deal every time , no matter day or time it's fairly busy and you will probably have a wait. Once inside the waitresses are surly and inattentive, I've actually had them tell me " it's gonna be a while before I get to you " and it is ten to twenty minutes before she comes back for drink order. The food is average and nothing special to support this type of behavior and service. read more

Due to a recent work transfer my drive takes me through downtown Willimantic on a daily basis. Several months ago I noticed the Thread City Diner and thus began my contemplation of adding it to our "Must-try" list of restaurants. I'm extremely sorry to say that it took this long to get ourselves in the door for breakfast but I'm extremely glad that we finally took the drive, enjoyed our meal immensely and have now moved the Thread City Diner from our "must try" list to our "we'll-be-back-again-and-again" list! First off, every single thing people write about the size of the servings is accurate! Come starving or prepare to leave with a doggy-bag which contains enough food for another meal (or two or three!) We arrived at about 9:15am last Saturday morning and though the place was bustling we were seated quickly, provided with menus and offered something to drink in very short order by our server, Stephanie. Coffee was provided and we spent the next several minutes trying to whittle down our choices for breakfast since it all looked and smelled great! I opted for the egg sandwich with double bacon and american cheese while my husband ordered a ham and swiss omelette with a side of bacon. Now, ordering double bacon on my sandwich was a very specific choice as far too often a restaurant's idea of an order of bacon and my idea differ by quite a lot! I imagined 2 slices of bacon on the whole sandwich so I doubled down. Stephanie, God bless her, tried to tell me that it would be a whole lot of bacon but previous experiences elsewhere had me sticking to the "double bacon" portion of my order. Enter our plates and our jaws dropped! I had read the reviews about the serving sizes here but until it's placed in front of you there's no way to adequately anticipate it! So now it's time to dig in.........and neither of us quite knew where to start but we're nothing if not brave so we "tapped forks" and dug in. I cut half of my sandwich in half hoping I could at least get that much eaten and that's truly all I could manage in one sitting. I like my food simple. Give me the staples prepared the way I ordered it and I'm extremely happy. Thread City Diner delivered all the way around on that count. Now, I've read some reviews here where people commented that it was "typical diner fare" like they were disappointed.......ummmmmmmmm, Hello! We love ourselves a good diner with "typical diner fare" so we were both pleased with our choices. One area where a diner (or any restaurant for that matter) can really mess up is with their bacon. Too salty, too chewy, too crisp, too fatty, too lean, too stingy with a serving! TCD did NONE of that! I don't know what brand they use but it's just right on all counts! Yeah, we'll be back! If you haven't been add it to your list of places to try. And now a little snippet about our server, Stephanie.......she knew her stuff and gave some great information/advice. (we'll listen more closely next time re: a serving size of bacon!) She was friendly, courteous, helpful and personable. So, not only will we go back but we'll be asking to sit in Stephanie's section when we do! read more

Thread City Diner - Egg sandwich with bacon (double order!) and american cheese on toasted sourdough. Yum! - Diners Near Me - Willimantic, Connecticut

See all

Wow, the worst service EVER!!!. Heard so many good things about this restaurant,, but never had I been to a place where owner/manager tells a customer you ordered it, so you have to pay for it weather you eat it or not. I told manager that I waited an hour for my food, he said he didn't believe that, then called me a fuckin bitch. I did not hear him, but someone told me they heard him, this is all in front of his customers. Never in my life had I seen this. Stay away from this place. read more

* Excellent, Pretty Diner, But Closes At Noon Everyday * I've dined here many times. Had pancakes, fresh toast, egg dishes, home fries. All were very good. Not a lot of finese but hey -- this is a diner, not some fancy-schmanzy joint. And I disagree with one review that called it "greasy diner food." Diners aren't Health Food establishments - and as diners go, I would NOT say the food here is "greasy," at least not in my experience here. The service ranged from average to very good. Coffee is excellent. It's a terrific spot for a diner. On the corner of what appears to be a fairly old Main Street building, it's got high ceilings, old wood floors and comfortable tables and booths. The only downside to Thread City Diner is their early closing time: At least as of last time I was there (2013), they close at NOON everyday. I don't fault them for it -- just be advised. That one drawback not withstanding, this is a great little place! * Phil read more

We love the food and the atmosphere is fun-although maybe not for everyone. The kitchen guys are yelling a lot and it's loud but it's fun. We go for the biscuits and gravy and kielbasa with home fries. Reasonably priced. read more

Are you even ready for this diner? If you are hungrier than you've ever been in your LIFE then this is the place for you, the portion sizes are literally insane. Great place for biscuits and gravy, huge-ass omelets, and breakfast sandwiches. The Molly sandwich is great, and just a plain egg and cheese sandwich is great too. I suggest asking for your breakfast sandwich of choice on a biscuit because their biscuits are great. My friends and I eat here hungover all the time and it gets us back into shape in no time. The whole crew agrees you can't go wrong at thread city. read more

Love this place for breakfast. I have been here twice and both time had good service. The price is right and the food is good. Very good portion size. The coffee leaves some room for improvement. Very Comfortable interior. I would recommend the omelets. A must try. read more

Excellent food and lots of it. If you leave hungry, it's your own fault. I had an enormous omelette, which they allowed me to include kielbasa from a daily special even though it wasn't on the menu. My companion had biscuits and sausage gravy that rivaled any I've had in the south. Their version of two eggs seems more like four. Staff was very friendly and attentive. Don't mind the barking from the cook so the servers will pick up orders, his bark is worse than his bite. :) read more

Hands down the best breakfast place I've been to. The portions are incredible, sometimes I can't even finish half of my order. The food is delicious, but lets face it, anyone can make eggs, the key to a great breakfast place is the home fries. And they nailed it. The prices are average, but for the size of the meal well worth it. The waitstaff is very friendly and work as a team to help each other out and make your experience all the better. I recommend everyone to come here. read more

My husband and I love Thread City, we typically get it to go, mostly since there is usually a line. It truly is a local place, friends and neighbors sit among the local college students, that quickly realized your buck goes further here than most places! We normally get the Molly" egg, cheese, and bacon sandwich on grilled Texas toast. And you DO NOT, need a magnifying glass to find the bacon, almost too much bacon, if that's at all possible!!! Also, believe it or not, there is bacon in the potatoes! So if you love the diversity in this little town, you cant help but love this hometown diner! ONLY NEGATIVE, THE CLOSE AT NOON! Oh, and we find the help very pleasant, may get crankie with non tippers, but no complaints here! read more

Well the reviews for the most part are spot on. The food was at best mediocre, with the portions being crazy big. After having to take a hike to liberty bank because they don't take cards I sat down and waited a good 15 minutes for my drink order to be taken. While ordering beware of how fast you drink it. While the food is cheap the drinks are not. They charge you for every refill, even coffee. When you take the entire experience into a summery go somewhere else. I will not be back. If you want a lot of so so food then this is your place, just don't complain of heart burn when your done because I told you so. read more

Service fast and friendly. Atmosphere clean and spacious!! Serving sizes were extra large. Food was delicious!!!!!! Pricing very good!!!!

We were visiting family for Thanksgiving and stopped in for a cup of coffee before our traditional family "day after Thanksgiving hike". Ended up ordering a plate of bacon and a plate of homefries. The portions were so large, we saved the last bit in our traveler coffee cup and brought it home to Maryland. Just ate it for breakfast here. YUM! My favorite breakfast spot. I really love the food and the atmosphere. Great service, excellent prices.

I understand my mom and I came in almost before they were closing. However it doesn't excuse the horrible food we were served. While we were seated I heard a rude waitress scream loudly "THEY BETTER ORDER NOW!" That being said I order the first thing I could think of, pancakes. When I received the giant pancake it looked delicious. However biting into it i discovered it was filled with left over filth. I had chunks of onions and potatoes stuck inside and underneath my pancake. While being rushed to eat our horrible food all the waitresses were gathered around counting their tips complaining about not being able to go home. I don't recommend this ace. There are plenty of other places to eat nearby. read more
