The muffin was really good, toasted in butter, sweet but not overly so, no off flavors and nice and warm. The Benedict eggs and English muffin were cooked well. The hollandaise was creamy but needed some salt, and the tenderloin was overcooked and not seasoned. The marinade didn't bring much in the way of flavor, and although the steak did have a little crust it did so at the detriment of the cook of the steak. It was good, but lacking. Always a deal for breakfast. With senior discount three of us had plenty to eat with coffee for under $30.00. My sister loved the furious sandwich which was packed with egg, bacon cheese and chipotle sauce. We went to Mitchell's for breakfast on a Friday morning. It was busy, but not overly crowded. There were open tables and we were sat quickly in a nice booth. I had an omelette and substituted the spuds (home fries) for a fruit cup, which was an additional $2 for a substitution, said the menu. I have a gluten allergy and was happy that they have gluten-free toast. The waitress did not alert me if they use the same toaster for both. My omelette was very good. When we got the check, the fruit cup was an additional $4, not $2 like on the menu. It was not worth an additional $4. I also had an extra side of bacon, which was $5+. With the $1 for GF toast, my omelette breakfast was pricey. My daughter had the Belgian waffles with fresh strawberries. She was very happy that they were indeed fresh strawberries in February, and not from a can. She also ordered a egg sandwich on a English muffin. It came on a bulky roll, but that was fine. My MIL had a western omelette with spuds and toast. She didn't like the spuds at all. They are sliced, not in cubes like other places. The consistency was off for her. She also didn't like the omelette because it was thick. We also had a small OJ, 2 coffees and a chocolate milk. All totaled, with tip, our breakfast was $80. That's a lot for breakfast for 3. 2 of the 3 of us liked our breakfast and I didn't get sick, so I was happy about that. The restaurant is clean and nicely decorated. Service was good. The outside could use some attention like better, landscaping, weeding, painting, etc. But I love coming here every once in a while. I've been going Mitchell's since they first opened in yr. 2000, I lived in Vernon at the time.. In the yr. 2002 I moved a few towns over and have tried many breakfast places since.. None of those places I'd give less than 3 stars.. mostly cause of not enough options on the menu, way prepared or an off-day on service. Mitchell's Restaurant in Vernon, I rate tops 5 stars .. Never had a bad meal, the service has been great and friendly , pretty much the same cooking staff for a long time.. The food is very tasty and I'm totally satisfied when I leave and starting the day out right.. I've read enough negativity hear and other places that I can't believe and they'll right a book on it.. Breakfast place that can't poach an egg, make toast or cook bacon. Poached eggs are always way overdone - most of the time hard - regardless of how they are ordered. Toast is never toast, it's barely warmed bread. Bacon is always undercooked and rubbery at best, regardless of how it is ordered. Today was my first and likely last time visiting this establishment. We arrived, put our name in, and were told to let the staff know once the rest of our party arrived--which we did. When everyone was present, we were told it would be about a 15-minute wait. I also made a point to let the staff know that my son is autistic, as he was visibly stimming while we waited. What followed was incredibly disheartening. Parties of 2, 4, and even 5 were being seated quickly, many of whom walked right past the "Please wait to be seated" sign. Staff never enforced the seating process or offered any explanation for the delays. I watched another party--also missing two members--get seated before us. After 20 minutes, we were told to wait another 15 to 20 minutes, again with no option offered to split tables to seat our group more quickly. Waiting that long with a child on the spectrum is more than just inconvenient--it's emotionally exhausting and overwhelming. What made it worse was how invisible and unimportant we felt. The sign on the wall says, "Walk in as strangers, leave as friends"--but that could not have been further from our experience. As a Hispanic family with an autistic child, I couldn't help but feel that we were being dismissed or deprioritized. The lack of communication, understanding, and compassion was unacceptable. It is already difficult to feel welcome in public spaces with a neurodivergent child--this experience made me feel judged, ignored, and completely unwelcome. We ended up leaving without being seated. I truly hope this business takes a hard look at how they treat all families and considers the importance of creating a more inclusive and respectful environment for everyone. read more

It's a great local restaurant that you could literally pass and not know it's there. The food is exceptional and the wait staff is definitely above average. There's plenty of beverages to drink from ice water, excellent coffee, iced tea soda, as well as beer. Mitchels uses Hosmers root beer, and I believe for the sodas. Hosmers company has been in Connecticut for over 100 years, must be doing something right. I actually looked it up and noticed they have two locations where they crafter soda in Willimantic as well as a Manchester. The only con was the kielbasa soup, one, unpleasant experience is where restaurants fall short on main ingredients , I realize this may have been an oversight of the prep cooks. However, the rest of the food that we did order was happily more than other restaurants serve locally. I would definitely recommend this restaurant and is worth the ride from Hartford County. read more

First time trying Mitchell's. Walked in to a long wait line, however it moved faster than expected. Knowing there would be a wait on a Sunday, we were impressed with their service. There were staff clearing the tables as people ate, as they left, and setting up new tables right away. The staff was very friendly even in the face of potential stress. Well run. We sat and our waitress came over within a couple minutes. Smiling and very welcoming. The coffee unfortunately tasted water down, it was weak, but okay flavor. To describe coffee as watery feels weird, but that's how it looked and tasted. The food was delicious, came out hot, and great portion. The bacon was thick cut and perfectly cooked. Happy with our food and service. The pricing was great too. One thing I want to add is the noise level. Of course on a busy weekend day when all tables are filled and the restaurant is bustling. But if you don't do well with overstimulating environments, this might not be the place for you. With the large open room, the sounds of children crying, dishes and silverware clashing, it is noticeable. Having been to meals with ptsd and/or anxiety friends, this is something I'm attuned to & would just like to share. Great environment if you're a person who is not affected by noise. Decided to try Mitchells, heard good things. Lunch on 6/26. My open turkey sandwich was served lukewarm, bread not toasted; turkey a bit tough and cool to the touch. Potatoes lukewarm just okay, butternut squash was fresh but no real buttery, brown sugar touch. husband had corned beef hash omelet. Omelet was hot on the outside but inside hash appeared that it was not fully cooked, no crunch,very pink in color and lukewarm inside. My stuffed French toast with banana foster WAS SO AMAZING and I can't wait to return to try another type of French toast with them. I go there at least 2 times a wk. I get a bacon,egg & cheese sandwich w/mayo & light spuds. Love it. Been a few instances where the spuds are dark and too hard chip like hard but I call them and they credit my acct for the next time I order. Ima late breakfast eater but I found them on google one time another breakfast place stoped serving breakfast. You can get food until 2 pm Monday-Wednesday. Earlier on wknds. They stop @ 1pm. This is 1 of the worst places I have gone in for a while for breakfast...Food was ok.. went for breakfast basic toast ,eggs, and bacon. , the place looked okay ... The waitress ( Melanie J ) . It was one of the rudest, disrespectful waitresses I have come across in a while. It wasn't that she said anything .. it was just the attitude.. it took her like 45 min. To serve us our food..ridiculous..noticed 2 other families who were still standing in line ,yet they got seated ordered and served ,before us ..now it's been awhile so I look it's 45 min Later .. I asked to speak to her .. she put a up a finger..1 min. Then proceeded to not answer ... .. Since she wasn't coming to the table, I had asked politely if we could get another water from one of the other waitresses .. she looked at me like she wanted to say I am not your waitress , but was nice enough to get it ,so I made sure to look at her to say THANK YOU ..Then my waitress and her were like what she wanted she said water. .. lol.. I am like really... well, I proceeded to ask to speak to a manager ..yet was told hold on don't know who was the manager for the day.. I'm like, wow.. lol. .. Well then, like 10 min. Later, that young lady came back like the lady with a black t-shirt on, and ponytail was the manager .. yeahh okay .. all the ladies there wore black shirts with ponytails.. Recently had breakfast here because we had a 'coupon'. We used to live nearby, eating here a couple of times several years ago. The only changes I could see were a reconstructed and decorated interior. It is more efficient for serving food, the decor adding a warmer, friendlier atmosphere. However, the food quality has not changed. Everything is household off-the-shelf quality at best. The only advantage being that meals are line-cook prepared so food can be delivered to the table minutes after ordering. I love my potatoes with my breakfast considering myself an expert on them. These potatoes they use are precooked and processed canned potatoes sliced and cooked soft (not crispy). They have not changed from this in all the years we went (~2003-2024). I ordered the everything breakfast, 2 pancakes, 2 eggs, 2 bacon, 2 sausages and 2 slices of toast, the wife had 2 pancakes. Again, quality is minimal, similar to generic store bought brands. The coffee was good. I didn't notice, but I was not given 2 sausages, I noticed but without having a menu to confirm it, I thought I might be mistaken. After I saw another 'everything' breakfast plate go by with sausages is when I realized I had been shorted. I had finished eating but had them brought to me as takeout with a bagel. IMO, the biggest draw to this place is not the quality of food, it is the quintessential local breakfast spot for the locals, prices are not outrageous, service is fast (too fast to forget my sausages). We don't live near here like we used to and won't be returning since there's many much better quality breakfast places closer to us, albeit it a little higher in cost (as they say, "you get what you pay for"). It was the coupon that lured me here. It is the woefully meh quality of the food why we won't be back. The area's demographics and being just off an exit of I-84, are the only reasons I can guess as the success and longevity of this place. It's easy to get to. It's affordable ( dare I say cheap). Reminds me of an old timey throwback, in the Shady Glen realm. Waitstaff is friendly and efficient. The kitchens pretty quick. Speaking of old timey cuisine, the liver and onions got a thumbs up. Off the menu the thing is loaded with bacon overkill, and the bacon is just kinda...ehhh, but skip that and just get extra onions. Myself, not going near the old timey liver and onions, ordered the burger steak-ified with onions and gravy. A poor mans rendition of the one they have down the road at Reins deli ( ie:ground beefsteak) Reins kicks this ones ass, but this wasn't bad. It was...ok, with the same diner gravy as before. Coleslaw was uber creamy. Mild and tasty. With a flavor profile that didnt match any other restaurants in the area, so I'm saying they make this themselves. In a world where cole slaw is often same old same old, this was just some decent stuff. And you get a big tub of it, so if your a coleslaw fan. Go for it. The fries rocked. Yah, they looked industrial, and I'm pretty sure they came out of a bag, but these were of the 'coated variety' that crisp up really good and taste great with or without the ketchup. Bottom line. I would peruse the menu further while eating the coleslaw and ketchup dipping a fry or two, and maybe get the hot open turkey sandwich or something. I came here for the first time Saturday, 2 adults 2 five year olds. We waited about 3 minutes then a spot at the counter opened up (it was about 930am). This was great because that's where the kiddos wanted to sit and it saved us from a meltdown if they tried to seat us in a dreaded booth. Right after we sat down someone acknowledged us and she said she'd be right back with coffee. It was at least 10 minutes before someone came back, but considering it was rush hour and we didn't have to wait for a seat we didn't mind. They had a nice assortment of entertainment for the little'uns. Oddly enough they were the only kids in the place. No one gave us evil looks or seemed annoyed so it was all good. The food wait was what would be expected for a Saturday. The kid entertainment earned them quite a few bonus points. They were quiet, it was a miracle. Everyone loved their food. We ate more than we should've and we were ok with that. I came back the following Monday alone. I sat down and was promptly greeted by the free-spirited Katie. She seemed like she knew her stuff. It wasn't packed, but there were plenty of people. I ordered the Phenomlette and I got it in less than 5 min. They weren't freakin' kidding, this omelette was legit. Perfect combo of ingredients. The only omelette that can compete with this is Barbara Lee's in Kentucky. I can safely say this is the BEST omelette in town. Then there are the potatoes. I never like the home fries in NE. These were great. I was sad I didn't eat them Saturday. Again, I ate more than I should. I probably shouldn't share this, but oh well: after I completely stuffed my face I ordered a "small" chocolate chip pancake to top it off. The dang thing was about 8" and super tasty.
