Awesome test drive with Genaro Santana, no pressure. Educated my wife and I on a 2026 RAV 4 PHEV. No rush test drive on freeway, around hairpin bends and city driving. Felt very comfortable to make an informed choice if the vehicle was right for us. They just did not have the color or XSE model we were looking for. Genaro is a great salesman, he drives over from W.. Sacramento because of the culture and experience here, he could have worked closer at Hanlees in Sacramento or Roseville Toyota. But he chose Thompsons, and they should be lucky to have him and treat him well. Great experience over all, just did not feel any pressure. They also have great snacks, chips, popcorn, hot drinks, sodas, and water.best stocked dealership I have seen. All complimentary. Great place to negotiate a deal. Kevin was friendly too. They do markup vehicles by $2k like bay are dealers who go up to $5k over TSRP. You could look at other dealers who don't like Folsom, Elk Grove, or Davis Toyota for a better deal. I've purchased three vehicles from Thompson Toyota over the past 26 years, and when I'm ready for whatever's next, they'll be getting another call from me. Yes, it's a bit out of the way for me. Yes, it's a smaller dealership than some of the big automall players, and the selection may not be as large as others. All of this is secondary to the integrity, genuine care and fair pricing I've received here every single purchase. First 4Runner in 2001 was easy peasy. 2014 was the same - easy peasy (actually saw it from the road on my way up to see Sammy Hagar at Harrah's) and was in and out without missing a beat, just in the new 4Runner while we left my wife's car at the dealer until Sunday heading home). And when I sold it and needed to get back into another 4Runner in 2017, Thompson Toyota took care of me yet again. Every experience has been straightforward, no-hassle, and I've always gotten exactly the vehicle I wanted. If it isn't on the lot, they simply make a trade to bring it in for you. I've had nothing but good experiences with their service department. I didn't buy my new 2024 Prius here but the service is outstanding. I went in today for my complimentary 20,000 mile service and Sammie was the service advisor. She didn't try and upsell me on anything; i.e., engine air filter, cabin air filter, fuel system cleaner, etc. I had already replaced both air filters with genuine Toyota filters the day before and did my usual 5,000 mile fuel system additive (Chevron Fuel system cleaner with Techron). When my factory warranty runs out, I will trust that Thompson's Toyota maintains their honest integrity in their service department. Service department exclusive: This is one of the more terrible, profiteering Toyota dealerships in the state. This place will charge you a $250 diagnostic fee for any issues, even if under warranty. Why is this a problem? Because no other dealership except BMW has ever charged me a diagnostic fee on any car I've owned. Worst part of this, I recently went to another Toyota dealership for an issue with my A/C compressor and front suspension knocking in cold weather and wasn't charged at all. They took my 4Runner in twice, once overnight for a morning test. I wasn't charged a cent and no serious problems were found. Thompson Toyota on the other hand, held my truck overnight, removed my skid plates, found no issue, and reinstalled everything with missing/loose hardware, and dangling skid plates. Not only that, but they somehow even managed to completely bow out a skid plate as if it they realized they installed it wrong and tried again. I'm out $300 because of a stupid diagnostic fee and $47+ shipping for new hardware they misplaced. Meanwhile, while I was picking up my truck before realizing what type of work was done, some older gentlemen walked right in for an issue. Strangely enough, without hesitation, the service advisor stepped out to go inspect a headlight issue that the older gentleman had complained about. When they walked back in talking about the issue and fix, both exchanged pleasantries and the man walked away without even being charged. Now, I have some ideas of what possibly happened there but this is an objective issue with this dealership during the course of business. I've given a lot of my business to this dealership in a very short timeframe with both of my trucks. Some were pretty big services, too. They can continue to contact me to come back but I will not. read more

As we were pulling into the lot, a salesperson named Maddie was just getting out of a car and quickly came over to introduce herself. We started talking right away, and she promptly let me take the Mini out for a test drive. After the drive, we sat down to talk numbers. I'm really torn. The salesperson was excellent and everyone we encountered in the front was nice and helpful. The process once we went to sign the papers was a complete 180. It was very aggressive and leaned hard into the scare tactics to try to up-sell. 'No' wasn't an answer they wanted to accept so they kept asking and kept pushing for the same things over and over. And, while it is my fault for not researching it at the time, they told us that California law required they etch the catalytic converter and charge us for it. What they didn't mention is that the law specifically says the customer can decline the service as long as we do so in writing. read more

Follow up was a big issue. Our Tacoma went in for some work and they ended up keeping our truck with issues for over 5 days over o raining parts...etc. They broke a knob on the AC and didn't fess up. Went in for my service for my 2026 Crown. They were so friendly and efficient! WOW!

Well, a few days ago I took my 2016 Tacoma into Thompson Toyota for an oil change. I checked in with service advisor Sammie, she was pleasant all business, then into the waiting room. After one hour I went to the adjacent new car show room and spoke with sales rep. Gabby, very pleasant person and asked her questions about new vehicles. I then went back to the waiting room and read a magazine. Short time later my phone pinged with a text message from Thompson Toyota, saying oil change was complete $100. (I had a coupon) also recommended a steering rack and pinion assembly replacement at a cost of $3,200. I was given a choice to either answer the text with a accept or deny the option. Naturally I chose to deny the request. Put my phone down and kept reading. Short time later sales advisor Sammie came in said vehicle was ready. I asked why the request for steering assembly, and she said power steering fluid was leaking. I told her I park it in same place all the time (10) years no sign of a leak on the driveway. She said, "its leaking on to the frame", I said if it leaks, I'll just add fluid. Got home parked where I always do. popped the hood, didn't notice any leak under the hood. Power steering reservoir full of fluid. No steering issues, no unusual noises, no steering shimmy and no light on dash saying trouble. Just seems like for a repair that expensive a mechanic would sit you down and explain and show you the leak. None of that, just a text saying do you want to spend $3,200. yes or no. I have been a loyal customer for 10 years at Thompson, but I just feel I was being taken advantage of. Normally the dealership will try to get you to pay more for things like wiper blades or tire rotation, but $3,200 Really. Anyway, if it is leaking eventually, it will drip off the frame to the ground. That usually how gravity works. I am mechanically inclined I know the different colors and odors of the various internal combustion engine fluids, so I know what to look for. I feel that I was being taken advantage of and that bothers me. I bought my Tacoma at Folsom Lake Toyota 10 years ago, been a great truck, 140K miles on it no trouble. I'll probably go back there for future maintenance. . read more

My review from last year was removed. Why? It was a genuine sales interaction I had with this dealership. What happened was I was interested in buying a brand new vehicle they had in stock, and found out the price of the car was the MSRP... PLUS a bunch of worthless dealer add-ons that I did not ask for, or want. I was told they would not remove them because "we sell all our vehicles with these options added". So be aware - you are NOT required to agree to pay for these overpriced, pure profit for the dealer "add-ons", like Cilajet paint protection, alarms that cost the dealer $50 and they charge you $800, VIN etching, etc. Yes - you have the option to walk away if they refuse to remove the fees, and you should because they will continue to rip off unsuspecting customers if you don't walk away. We went in looking for a Toyota Camry and Mr. Adam Kirkpatrick who is the Finance Manager was an overall jerk and a person whom nobody should ever do business with. He haggled and haggled with all the techniques in the book. We had seen the exact car at another dealership and asked him to match the number and we would get it from Thompsons. Not even cheaper but match the same price. Big deal Adam loudly & proudly bad names all the other dealerships and finally tells us that if we can get the price in writing to him then he will believe us. So I did! So I didn't end up buying a car from here, but I'll briefly detail my process of trying to get a grand highlander hybrid. First off they don't outright charge a markup, BUT they do in fact have a disguised markup (which they disclose) in the form of Cilajet - Ceramic clear coat on exterior paint ($469) and Recovr- a Theft recovery device ($995). This is actually not bad compared to a lot of other dealerships. BUT don't let them fool you when they say they don't have markups because it just isn't true, they are just in the form of required dealer add-ons. Expect to add about $1500 to the cost of the car. Secondly (at least early 2024), to obtain the grand highlander hybrid you need to get on their waitlist. This requires a refundable $500 deposit and a credit application and then you give them your list of preferences. I was texting with a salesman who told me how this process works. When I told the salesman straight up that I was willing to do it but that I would be putting in a few deposits at other dealerships as well, he then refused my deposit saying they only took deposits from 'serious customers'. When I told him well most dealerships are saying 4-6 months wait or longer so it didn't make sense to just be on one waitlist, he said they do things 'differently' at their dealership. He honestly seemed like a nice enough guy. But if you want to get on their waitlist, make sure you tell them you only have eyes for Thompsons : ) because car dealerships deserve all the leverage, right? read more

Went in looking to trade in and buy used. Got a way lowball offer based on KBB, and was given the run around about how it's market price based on carmax pricing. I offered a price on one of their used cars based on that same carmax pricing, and was told to 'do my due diligence' as it was too low. Carmax was closer to my price than theirs haha. The worst experience ever on a dealership. I was hurried the day before to get everything in line to purchase a LandCruiser the following day. Everything was set, nanagement knew about the following day purchase, BUT they decided to sell the LandCruiser the day prior before my purchase. Bought a 2025 Tundra Platinum HV on 05/10/25 and from day one it has had a whistling noise coming from the driver side rear view mirror. Salesperson Mr. Bill said no, that's coming from the ventilated seats in a condescending manner. But guess what...it's a known issue: TSB T-SB-0020-25. I've been waiting since July 2 for the "kit" to fix it to come in. Jump to today 10/09/25 and the kit either wasn't good or wasn't installed properly but it didn't fix the issue. Truck has 2,700 miles on it so I want a new mirror - not to have them mess around with my truck more and chance ruining something else. I so regret buying this truck. Should love it but I kind of hate it. Holding my breath for the seat plastic to crack or radio knob to fall off since those seem to be pretty common occurrences with 3rd Gen Tundra's. If they make it right and replace or fix the mirror, the squeaky back window and thing on the paint, I'll update this review. read more
