We purchased a new GMC Canyon from Thompsons on Saturday 8/28/21. I can't say enough about our salesman Kyle. One star is too much for this dealer. We purchased a 2019 Sierra Denali 1500 on 8/31/19 and we left with the wrong vehicle because of the negligence of your dealer's staff. When we received the call from Jesse (manager) he asked us to come to the dealer to return the vehicle. We were pressured by his staff to do the exchange before Saturday 11/30/19when will be the end of the month and will look bad with the inventory. I asked for compensation for my time off from work and it did not happened. We bought the vehicle clean inside and the fuel tank close to full. Cheap people, the vehicle from them had less then a full tank of gas, bread crumbs in the cab, the seat belt buckeled in the back but this time around the correct vehicle. Shame to this dealer. We are humans and make mistakes but we have to show appreciation to people that help us to correct the mistake. I don't have any good thinks to say about this dealer. I reached out to the dealership earlier in the week about a specific car they had in their inventory. I also made sure that I was pre-qualified from a lender to help expedite the process. I made certain the dealership had my contact information, the VIN # to the car I was interested in, and the offer-letter from my lender for that specific car. I also alerted them that it would take me about 2.5 hours to drive from my residence to their dealership. My wife and I arrived 10 minutes early to our pre-scheduled 5:00PM appointment yesterday only to be told the car I was interested in, pre-qualified for, and brought the down-payment for, was sold about an hour prior to our arrival. The fact that the car was sold prior to my arrival was disappointing enough. At the very least, it would've been nice to have been given first right of refusal. The fact that NO ONE thought it prudent to call me to notify me of the car's sale prior to my arrival - when they clearly had my mobile number - is a severe lack of communication on their part and demonstrates a level of customer service that makes a mockery of the word! It would've saved me and my wife a wasted day, wasted gas, and wasted miles on our current family car. I had been putting off some maintenance on my GMC pickup because of Covid. Last month I received my DMV renewal requiring a smog check. I checked with Thompson's and found out they offered to pick the car up and deliver when finished. I called and talked with Sarah who was so accommodating to find a day that worked for me and the appointment was made. After what I thought was a good sale experience buying a SUV from Thompson's, I returned 4 months later to get a second key and fob. During the sale I was talked into adding insurance service, covering dings/dents and key/fob replacement. I knew it was expensive to replace a key/fob for newer vehicles due to having to replace one for our other vehicle so, knowing that the used SUV I was purchasing only had 1 key/fob, I asked if I could use it to get another key at which time, I was told I could. So, I agreed to the to the purchase of the service. As I was leaving I asked the sales person if I could make the key/fob claim on the On-Star service when setting it up. He indicated that it was a different service and I needed to wait 30 days to make the claim. Upon my return to Thompson's to make the claim, I was now being told that the service didn't cover the key/fob because the car I purchased only came with one key/fob. I explained why I purchased the service and what was said to me at that time, by TWO different employees of Thompson's. After making it clear that they needed to honor what the employee's told me the sales manager said what I was telling him was "hearsay" and that he would investigate it. He said he would split the cost of the key/fob. I let them know it was my expectation that they replace the key/fob or refund the purchase price of the service. He agreed to a full refund. (we'll see if it comes through). After a bit of paperwork, I explained to the sales manager that I was driving specifically from another town, with a dealer in it, to Thompson's to give them my business because of what I thought was a good sales experience and good customer service and that now, because of an unwillingness to take care of what should've been a long term customer, eventual repeat customer, I will no longer recommend or use any service at Thompson's. The fact is I will discourage any one I talk to about my SUV from buying at or using Thompson's in anyway, all for about $200. read more

When I drove the car to work the next morning, I found the low beam headlights were burned out. I had to drive to work with high beams on. On further inspection I found the air filter full of dirt and weeds, bad windshield wiper blades, and just no indication that the car had been serviced and/or inspected by the dealer. What the hell was I thinking when I went back here recently for an oil change?!! I found a coupon for $20 and I thought why not...they can't screw up an oil change right? WRONG!!! My vehicle had never leaked oil and after a couple days I started noticing there was oil in my driveway. Decided to check the oil pan plug and it was fine, but the "Certified Idiot" over there didn't even tighten the filter down and my vehicle almost ran out of oil. Talk about Incompetence!!! Isn't that one of the very first things you learn at school??? This time I mean it...I will NEVER go back!!! When it's time for a new car I will drive down to Folsom and will not give this place anymore of my hard earned money. Took the vehicle to Folsom chevy to have it serviced(a reputable dealer) to find that Thompsons had glued the pieces to the ignition coil. When I called to explain the issue I was laughed at by Jessie the sales manager and told I should have paid for their service contract and then he laughed again. Nice dealership, some people are nice while others not so much. While I was there, the cashier was doing 10 million different things. She kept arguing with me that she gave me my key to my car after it had been serviced. When I asked her for my key for the last time she threw it and slid it on the desk. The service was great although the car wash job was awful. Even though it had rained a little, they left grease all over the door and fenders. They did offer to rewash it, it would still inconvenience me to drive 20 miles away. I don't plan on going back. I plan on taking my business somewhere else or doing the work myself. We aren't 'heavy' yelpers but felt inclined to write this for TB GMC!! Worked out a deal on a 2017 Denali Yukon and the 3 musketeers (Jimmy, Ed and Harveen) went out of their way to help us secure/seal the deal. We had some initial misunderstanding on another vehicle and after an hours commute from Sac to Placeville, we discovered the error (yes..there's 2 feet of difference between a standard Denali and a XL ;-)), we discovered the listing error in person and almost bailed out. The trio went out of their way and managed to give us a excellent deal on a 2017 demo vehicle with similar discounts and additional factory warranty and even gave us a rental to drive back home and they dropped the vehicle the next day directly to our house in Elk Grove!! And a bottle of wine to celebrate to top it off! On the same note, if you are considering CarMax...read this. While their 'used' deals may seem like a deal, there are dealers out there (e.g. TB GM) that are willing to offer decent discounts/rebates so definitely shop around. The other thing I learnt is Carmax gets a lot of 'rejects' that dealers discard or wouldn't accept so before you consider that BMW at Carmax for $20k, look up the vehicle history or get the VIN and run it by a BMW dealership ..most will run the history for free. We were considering pre owned Denalis at Carmax and after test driving 2, both had weird tranny issues but Carmax simply said it's normal and recommended their "peace of mind extended warranty" for additional $4k!! Carmax will also kill you if you have a trade-in and while this is expected from a corporate 3rd party retailer, we received a whole $1.5k better value for our old Jeep at TB GMC). We also had bad experience at Elk Grove auto mall and it seems with heavy foot traffic in the prime location, dealers over there feel less entitled to offer discounts to customers..it's more like they came up with numbers/% rate and told us " take it or leave it..your choice". I'll keep this a lot shorter than my experience with Thompsons deserves. I was just passing through from out of state. My check engine light came on first thing that Friday morning and I decided to stop there. It was late morning. they told me that the problem was the DEF heater and that it would be covered under warranty. However they couldn't have it ready until Monday because they didn't have the replacement part in stock. I told them that I was from out of town and could I stay at their house until then. Of course I was kidding. I left my truck with them and went for a walk to contemplate my options. I got a call that they found one in Sacramento and that if the mechanic would come in on Saturday, they could have it running by end of day Saturday. As I was making arrangements for a place to stay the night, I got a call around 2:20 that my truck was ready for pick up. WHAT? I couldn't believe what I was hearing. Maybe they thought I was serious about staying at their house? Funny. They bent over backwards for this poor old guy from out of town. I did not purchase from this dealership. The Story: I inquired about a 2019 Suburban via the online messaging service. Apparently that was a mistake, because I believe thats where the communication difficulties began. I had explictly asked to talk via text- received a call instead. I had wanted to see if the dealership would negotiate- apparently thats consider an insult? I offered $39500 for a car that was priced $43990. No counter offer was given. I was told via text by a associate that "Hey Brandon I looked into it. For this specific vehicle it is priced better than other comparable ones within at least 250 miles. At 43,990 its a steel. If I get something a little bit older with a few more million it I'll let you know. This one just seems to be out of your price range... Me-LOL Dealer-LOL ME-No wonder the vehicle hasn't sold when you have a sales associate thats incompetent and fail to follow direction and insult potential customers. Stay Classy. HORRIBLE HORRIBLE customer service!!! Being summertime and the temperatures reaching up to 100 a lot of days here, we needed to get the air conditioning fixed as soon as possible. We took our car to one other place, they didn't do anything and we wasted our time. We took our car to Thompson's the next day at 8am, and they told us it would be done by the end of the day. The business closes at 6, and by 5pm, we still hadn't heard back from anyone. We called at 5, the tech- DANA (HORRIBLE PERSON) said that he was still waiting to see what parts were needed, and would call by the end of the business day. Still no call at 6, we called a few minutes after 6 and the guy who answered had no idea what was going on, and not expecting to, we left our car there overnight. Called the next morning- Dana told us that the car had been evaluated the day before, that because we didn't say we were in dire need of our car, he thought it was our fault that the car stayed overnight, then proceeded to lie and say that he told us it could possibly be the next morning (NEVER happened). We had to leave our car because all the techs for the day went home, and no one there knew what was going on with it, if it was available to take home or not. Finally, after waiting for a quote, they wanted to charge $1700 just to fix an air conditioner, and of course would need it another day. We said no of course, because that is ridiculous. When I tried asking if the car had been taken care of the day before or the next morning, he said that it was diagnosed the day before, about 5pm (probably right after we called). It sat at the dealership for ten hours, not worked on, and no one called us to tell us that we could have had the car the whole day. When confronted with the same question- why did you not call us, his answer was that it was our fault for not telling him we were in great need of our car. He told us that because we weren't going through with the repair, we wasted an hour of the technician's time, not that he had wasted two days of our time. To top it off, we had only been here one time before. When finally backed into a corner of lies, he made one last attempt at telling another lie- said he remembered us from the time before, and that I came in complaining how long an oil change took. That day we were out in the parking lot looking at cars while we waited. I don't know how that can be confused with coming inside and yelling at someone. Dana is the most untruthful person I have ever come into contact with. I never write reviews on anything, but that is all people have to go off of sometimes, and this whole situation is completely messed up.
