The spa experience was amazing - it is tucked away inside of the hotel and has two levels. I had an early week appointment in the morning and there weren't many others in the shared spa areas which made for a very relaxing experience. I had the Zen body experience and throughly enjoyed. I also experienced the dry sauna and vitality pool which was very clean and relaxing. The staff frequently cleans the areas and removes towels, etc to keep the areas clean. It was easy to check in and the staff was courteous and honored my AMEX benefits which was nice. I stayed in a king bedroom with waterfront view (upgraded through my AMEX benefits) and the room was bright, airy, and clean. There is 24 hour room service and I ordered a late night pizza and it was delivered within 30 minutes. The water pressure in the bathroom was good in both the shower and tub and the water gets very hot (which I personally enjoy). I did also utilize the gym (new gym equipment and all the machines and accessories for various types of movement and activity) and indoor pool area. The only thing taking away from my experience was the amount of younger guests during my stay (which I know cannot be controlled) however lounging in the pool area was not as relaxing and during breakfast there were younger guests open mouthed coughing in the buffet line and touching the utensils so there were just some food items I did not feel comfortable eating. Overall I had a great stay and would definitely stay again, recommend for out of town guests, or to visit for the spa experience alone. Valet was $86 to park overnight as of 4/7 $$$

A phone holder next to the magnifying mirror in the bathroom (genius for getting-ready multitasking). Bedside light controls so you're not playing gymnastics to turn off the lamp. Then there's Matthew, the bartender, who improvised a "Matthew Cunningham Special" for me that I think included tequila, ginger beer, grenadine, juice, and somehow made it taste like vacation in a glass. The bell staff and front desk were the kind of friendly that feels genuine, not scripted. Add in cozy slippers, a Nespresso machine, a separate soaking tub, and beautiful DC artwork that reminds you how lucky we are to have this city... and suddenly it's the small details doing the heavy lifting. Our stay came with drink tickets, so it was nice to sit at the bar and relax with a drink. This is in the heart of downtown so you can easily walk to all of the sights. The hotel offers valet parking, but for a much cheaper option you can book a nearby parking garage. Overall this is a solid option if you need somewhere to stay in downtown DC that won't break the bank, but is also nice and comfortable.

I decided I'd pay a little bit extra for convenience, versus staying farther out and having to use rideshare services to get around. I took a Lyft from the airport, and outside of city traffic, I was able to conveniently get out. The lobby us on the second floor, and I later realized that the elevators to the rooms were only available once at the lobby level, which caused some frustration when trying to smoothly move between the hotel and outside. Check in was smooth thanks to Adel, who was super kind and helpful. My room was spotless, and it felt so cozy and relaxing. Any time I have plan opportunity to stay at a Canopy hotel, I try to because the rooms are perfect for short stays and solo or couple travelers. They are also perfectly located in the busiest part of cities, so it makes it efficient to get to places by walking.

Warm, personable, fun. Truly the highlight. Most staff we interacted with were polite and willing to help, which made the gaps elsewhere even more confusing. What they got wrong (beyond the dated room and tech): For a hotel that loudly advertises luxury service, the customer experience fell flat. Outside of the arrival bowl of fruit, nothing felt elevated. Night two, we ordered pizza and planned a cozy Home Alone movie night. The technology made streaming impossible. Fine, cable it is. We called the concierge and asked for two plates. Just two. The answer was a flat no. We were told to walk down to the lobby restaurant and see if they might have plates "to spare." I'm sorry, what? The next morning, room service arrived... with someone else's order. It was corrected, but for a luxury hotel, that kind of miss is surprising. Housekeeping came through, but only halfway. The coffee and minibar were never restocked. In a suite. At a luxury hotel. This is table stakes. At 9:30 PM we stopped by the lobby circle bar. It was immediately clear the bartenders did not want to be there. I get it, service work is hard. Still, opening our interaction by warning us about last call at 11 set a strange tone. By 10:00, one bartender disappeared for 45 minutes. No refills. No check-in. No bill. Breaks are important. Coverage is also important, especially when you're selling a premium experience. Beyond the bellhops, much of the staff felt irritated to be present. Front desk to concierge, the energy was less "historic luxury hotel" and more "counting down the minutes." The hotel was also clearly prioritizing weekend tea and brunch revenue, to the point that the historic lobby was clogged with extra tables and largely unusable for actual hotel guests. Bottom line: this was not a luxury experience, and I would not recommend it. I'm only posting this publicly because I reached out directly to hotel management and never received a response. At that point, a review feels necessary.

Upon welcome we received free Trolley tickets for one day and some food credits, probably based on our Bonvoy Status (we travel all the time). The price for a room I guess because of the multiple conventions in the place was excessive. I think for a room, not a suite, it would have ben $750 per night during the week. I thought that was a lot so we used points, and the 1st night they had not held our King Room for us, and despite being our anniversary, we had to sleep in a double room and move the next day. Unfortunately, the double room was quiet, and the King Room had an adjoining door and we heard every little thing from the room next door. I would put this down one point, but the service, staffing and helpful Concierge made this place really nice for us.
