I just can never find anything I need, it's so disappointing. I go in here looking for a sawblade that goes into a drill. They are so cheap at Amazon yet I come here thinking that they may have it and I could not find it now I have to wait two days for it to arrive That's not what I really made me upset, it's the employees when I asked them for help. They look so discouraged or just so pestered when I asked him where I can find it On top of all that when I buy 100% silicone based caulk it ends up, not even working properly, it was defective. I just recently moved back to Paradise. After losing everything in the fire I of course had to replace a lot of things. This was one of my favorite stores before the fire and it still is. Extremely helpful and always with a smile. When I read some of these other reviews I wonder what store they were in! Maybe it was them and not the people who work there. They are obviously a close knit group...and what the hell is wrong with that? Everyone up here is just trying to put their lives back together and we don't need any of that negative crap. This store has had everything I have needed so far and I am a believer in keeping local businesses in business. I love this place!! read more

So here at least once a week. Partly because they usually have what I need and partly because they are the only game in town. The employees are actually pretty exceptional - and I don't give idle praise. For example, I bought a new propane BBQ. A week later, the store called to say that the BBQ had been recalled and I should call Char-Broil. That's pretty good. Especially when I called the manufacturer and they claimed there was no recall. Till they sent me a letter two weeks later saying there was. While the store isn't the biggest, they carry a wide selection allowing you to find at least one example of what you need. Unlike many stores that put twelve of the same thing on separate pegs to make it look like they have a selection, this store actually has a selection. Nice. Plus, the folks there are willing to go out of their way to help you. That's unusual. Sure, since the demise of the real "builder's store" it's become difficult to get building supplies up here and I would like to see Ace fill that hole, I know that's not their forte, so I don't hold it against them. And you can get a 2x4 or chicken wire, so to an extent, you can get things done and they don't rip your heart out with outrageous prices for the stuff, either. This is my favorite store in Paradise! They have so much fun stuff to browse through! Not only do they always have what I need when it comes to household items, DIY, tools, even little gifts and knick-knack items, the employees are what make this store the best in town. The store is very well staffed and the employees are super helpful and educated when helping customers. They are a bit on the pricy side but to me it is well worth it because of the amazing advice and customer service I receive whenever I visit. :) read more

This is a fantastic store that has a little bit of everything that you can find in a hardware store. The employees always say "hi" with a smile , and ask if you need assistance. Tonight I could of went to the big box stores in Chico since I was already in Chico but decided to go the locally owned hardware store up the hill on my way home. Billy is the go to guy! He was not only friendly but very helpful, and had an honest approach and seemed to have the best interest of the customer. He was so helpful educating me and suggesting what kind of paint to get for my painting project, brushes, etc. 2. So I picked out a color I wanted, and then realized on the other side I found a better color that I really wanted, but the paint was already mixed. -:;$&@"&; ]#%*+ inside my head......Billy tried to see if he can mix the original can and save me the cost of buying another can ($35), I told him I was OK spending an extra can because it was totally my fault. He suggested that he would talk with the manager and figure something out. That being said, he remixed another can of paint for me ( the color I wanted after changing my mind) BUT only charged me for one can! He said he will sell the other color eventually. Now that is excellent customer service! This is a rare quality these days. I get the impression that Billy enjoys what he does and I appreciated his patience and kindness! I think some people get confused and have expectations that Ace should be a full service retail store like Lowes or Home Depo, Ace may not have the wide selection of product those two stores have, but Ace carries what you need and then some, including things you will never find in the big stores. The time and money you save in gas more than makes up for any price differences, on top of that, I can't go into the store without at least two or three people asking if I need any help. I have no problem asking if i am looking for something and I see them first, that's why they are there, small towns are like that, In the bigger stores good luck finding someone to help you, If the paradise Ace was in Chico, I would still go there first, thankfully it isn't. read more

I have been here half a dozen times since moving to paradise. I rarely find what I need and the service is so rude. I have been talked down to by multiple men that think they need to talk slow with lots of hand gestures for a little lady to understand . I was in for dirt on sale in the ad last week. So much confusion the employee ended up arguing with me about what compost is. The bag stated compost but he kept saying it wasn't. Now he couldn't tell me what was in the bag but just that it wasn't compost. Now the bag clearly says compost.....sooo? Also I couldn't look at the bag till I purchased it since it was in the back. So lame, I'm sorry but this place is a joke! I have complained to the front about the rude men and the girls at the front are never surprised or relay the message. I'm guessing it's so often what's the point. 6 girls at the registers and I have to wait 15min to not get any answers. read more

So glad they are here! Great place to get yard tools, bird seed and all the little things I need for my newly rebuilt home without having to drive to Chico. I thought it was funny when one of my fellow reviewers below said that the ACE people were unhelpful and that Home Depot and Lowes, the knowledgeable folks down the road, are now getting all their money. First of all, good luck finding someone at Home Depot to help you. If you do, its hit or miss. You might get someone thats knowledgeable, you might get an inexperienced teenager. I'll admit though that the prices at Home Depot might be better but in my experience at both stores, the ACE people were much more knowledgeable. And yes, if you go here, expect to pay at least 20% more but that's what you give for good Customer Service. 5 stars up :) read more

Why trust the reviews here that are positive, because there are only two reviews shown that were made after the fire that burned the whole town down, and they are both 5 star reviews. My 1 star review was removed by Yelp! because they say it does not fit their guidelines, so convenient for the store owner and management that prevent truthful reviews like the two one-star reviews from before the fire, that immediately follow the two post-fire reviews. So, we are led to believe that there are no bad reviews about this store since March of 2018. Is this why so many questions about how Yelp has become an advertising business biased for their clients instead of providing realistic reviews about the businesses being reviewed? read more

Look, I've lived in Paradise for 14 years and Thomas Ace Hardware is THE best hardware store I've EVER found. Plus their prices (for many items) are better than Home Depot or Lowe's and when their prices aren't better, their service is always way better. I've given up going to the two big box hardware stores in Chico, unless I need lumber... Furthermore, this Ace hardware store almost always have the product or products that I need, and each department always has an expert right there to help me. Plus I don't have to walk a half mile to find what I'm looking for. We're blessed to have this retailer in Paradise, that I'm certain of. read more

One of my favorite stores. Small-town, homey feel. They go all-out with their Christmas display. Their floor staff are highly knowledgeable and know and use the products they sell. Prices are actually competitive with online retailers. Ace may be a chain, but this is definitely not a big box store. read more

The paint department sucks so much they did an absolute shit of a job they mixed the wrong color even thought they had a sample I then went to return it and they said they wouldn't take it back or fix it even thought they did a terrible job. They guy returning it was completely rude about the whole situation and said "well you should have read the sticker" they are terrible don't ever go to them for paint EVER! read more

Ace Hardware is my favorite store here in Paradise. I have never once been disappointed, unable to find something, or to find assistance with a project I was working on. Everybody I have met there is so very helpful. They have never talked down to me, even once when I was near having a temper tantrum in frustration, trying to do a project required by the state. The man remained calm, walked me through the process of doing what needed to be done, helped me find the right tool for the job (that makes ALL the difference!) and walked me to the front counter as if I were an honored guest. That is typical of my experiences at Ace Hardware in Paradise. My first choice for a go to place when a job comes up that I don't know how to do. read more

Went in today to have a screen made and pick up some other materials. Asked a nice gentleman about the screens and he told me where to go and that he would call someone to meet me there. When I got there, a woman employee was already there helping a customer. The person that was called came and said to her "oh, you are here, I guess I am not needed" and left. I stood there several minutes as was not even acknowledged. I figured "ok, she is busy", so I leave and come back a few minutes later. This time, there are three employees there, and no customers. Two of the employees are having a conversation and the one behind the counter is interjecting in their conversation. Before I had a chance to even speak up, another customer comes in, the person behind the counter immediately acknowledges the customer, the other two employees continue their conversation, and I was never so much as spoken to or asked If I needed help. They acted as if I was not even standing 2 feet from them. THREE employees??? What do you pay them for, to ignore customers and have personal conversations. They cost you sales today. HORRIBLE customer service. I will not return and you can be sure I bought my window screen and everything else I needed elsewhere. read more

What I really like about this store is the specialized service that department specialist will give you. They will meet with you and help you find what you need from catalogs, etc if they don't carry it as stock inventory. They also give contractor discounts which results in prices LOWER than the big box stores in Chico. I also like the big variety, and the information center in the center of the store where I can talk to someone about items that I may need. They aren't perfect, but it's my store of choice in Paradise for the items that they carry. read more

Everyone I have met is helpful. As a Bay Area transplant, I find the homey friendly service so refreshing -- the employees treat me like helpful neighbors. A surprisingly large and well-stocked hardware store for such a relatively small community. Prices not great but not unreasonable. Although the big 'catch' is gonna be service, which will range from helpful and even chatty if you're a 'local' and grew up in the area, to outright rude if anything at all suggests that "you ain't from around here". Which is probably why there seems to be such a difference in reviews. "Locals" (or just look like 'em) get friendly, terrific service... but most everyone else, not so much, where you kinda get the idea that many, though not all, of the department clerks are doing you a 'favor' just to answer your question. But the check-out gals are actually pretty civil (with maybe the exception of Ms 'Julie', depending on her mood.. lol). Although if it makes any difference, much of the staff has apparently lived here all their lives and just don't know any better. So their behavior with "furiners" and 'out-of-towners' is just a natural extension of a small town where everything runs on the "good 'ol boy" system. But if you happen to be on the wrong side of this 'cultural' problem, and don't wanna risk a run-in with some "Bubba" (or "Bubette"), fortunately there's a Home Depot only 20 minutes away down the hill, with less 'spotty' attitudes re: customer service and professionalism. read more
