For us, this was the perfect casual, outdoor setting that felt easy, familiar, and was dog friendly. We wanted to find something where we could bring our pup, and this was perfect. There is a large parking lot making it convenient. The outdoor space has many tables and fire pits, and lots of turf to make it more cozy. While they didn't have anything while we were there, there was also a stage which sometimes has Irish dancing and other entertainment under a large outdoor tent. There are also outdoor TVs. The indoor space looks decent too, but we only popped our heads in - seems like a typical bar type setup with a festive crowd. We chose our own outdoor seats since they weren't busy, and were quickly brought waters and menus. We ordered the Bavarian pretzel, and opted to split a roast pork sandwich. (Sadly, I was too hungry and didn't snap pics of that part). The pretzel is huge and came with mustard and cheese -- overall, the perfect soft pretzel. Good thing we decided to split the sandwich because it was also huge. Flavor was good and we were both satisfied. Simple presentation and no fuss - kind of what we expected with the name Yard Pub. The beer I got wasn't great, nor were their options, so keep that in mind. Overall, the service was friendly and we found our meal and experience to be exactly what we were looking for. Absolutely terrible experience here over the weekend. One server to cover the entire restaurant side. The food was ice cold by the time it got to us, which took over 30 minutes. Because the server was so overwhelmed, I didn't even have a drink with my food. It came much later. To top it all off, when we asked to speak to a manager, we were informed that NO MANAGER WAS THERE! Mind you, there was a band out back on this night, and the place was packed. The level of disrespect, unprofessionalism, and just down right trashy way of speaking from the "manager/owner," Kathy, during a phone call regarding the issues was disgusting. A phone call that took place 2 days later when she decided to show up to work. Then the husband threatened to fight my boyfriend because my boyfriend wanted to discuss the issue. Ate here for the first time on Saturday. The food was average, at best. We ordered the mozzarella sticks & the pretzel charcuterie board for appetizers. The pretzel was alright, the bites were good, but the big pretzel was undercooked in some spots. It was very loud in there, there was a guitarist but he was really loud and right by the front door. The service was fine. The parking lot however...good luck. It took TWO people to back the car out of the parking spot. The only positives: 1. Awesome singer (James Clark) with an acoustic guitar playing a great variety of genres and an amazing song about Jimmy Buffett that he wrote. 2. The waitress was sweet. 3. Watching littles dance. That is where the positives end. Negatives: 1. Cigarette butts all over the astroturfing, beer can tops, and other trash all around the food area. 2. Two dollars for two ounces of cheese from a can and six bucks for a cups of cold unsalted fries, and 4 chicken fingers the size of a thumb. 3. Four plastic cups of beer, chicken thumbs, and an order of cold fries with crap canned cheese sauce for $50? Live down the road and never will be back. The Westgate and the Crossbar both have decent food and ambience. The only thing The Yard has is an outdoor area with the owner's cyber truck in the parking lot. Well since I'm not from Havertown, I don't see the allure of drinking outside as cars speed by on West Chester Pike. If the food were good, it would be another story. News flash: Pico De Gallo is supposed to be freshly cut tomatoes salsa...not some dark, jarred tomato stuff you put in a little plastic bowl. And maybe add some lettuce to those quesadillas? Something besides 4 plain slabs and two little plastic bowls. Chicken sandwich: it's best not to soak the bun with a dill condiment that would definitely not be considered universally liked. I got the Delco cheesesteak. Once again I wish I took a picture of the menu. From memory, it had fried onions, green peppers, red peppers and habanero cheese. The roll, oh the roll. Very good roll I just wish it had sesame seeds on it. I saw a Liscio's roll box as I was leaving. The meat was very good and did not get lost in the peppers and habanero cheese. The meat seemed more ripped than chopped. The peppers and habanero cheese were everywhere and were great complementors and not dominators. This was a very well-made bar/restaurant cheesesteak. This is definitely a 1st date, impress the future in-laws and/or get out of the dog house cheesesteak. read more

I think the place has changed names . Honestly, not sure what it was but must be recent because I can't find a Yelp listing. I only gave this place 3 stars. Those that read my reviews know I try to give everyplace and everyone the benefit of the doubt. This is the best I could do. I'll explain. Ive road past this place a million times traveling between upper Darby and the Blue Route heading back to Delaware. Always wanted to try it and finally did . Sat outside and our server was very pleasant as she handed us the specials list while informing us that they were all out of everything on that list PLUS, a few regular menu items. She also apologized ahead of time for our service being slow, as she was double the work of 3 servers. Since we only had about 5 options (lol... I'm exaggerating of course), I decided to keep it simple and got the Delco Cheesesteak. It was very good (although for the pice, you'd think they would throw in some fries or at least chips). I ordered a basket of fries on the side and although a little on the cold side by the time they came, were the closest thing to Thrashers French Fries (if you don't know, you better find out) this side of Rehobeth Beach. So, the saving grace for this place was pleasant disposition of the server, and the fries. Look, we are in crazy times. I'm gonna give it a year and try again. read more

We were outside in the tent with our family and small children. People were smoking cigarette and cigars. It was awful. I was shocked the waitresses didn't ask them to move. How rude of people to do that around children. It is fine if you want to put your own health in jeopardy but think of others. Good food and ambience but no way we would return with such lax health codes. Not recommended for children and families. Gross!! read more

I hosted a 40th birthday for my husband with 70 guests. Kelly was incredibly helpful with planning a menu that fit my budget. The food staff far exceeded every expectation. Everything was always full, and no one had to ask for anything! Chelsea and Eamon were fun and fast bartenders. The party was great, the food was wonderful and they even took care of the music! Everyone had a blast! The party room was gorgeous and private, and our guests loved the firepits outside. I was pleasantly surprised by the bill and plan to come back for our next event. For me, from 2 to 4 stars in 5 years is an impressive accomplishment for any restaurant and these folks have become force in the Havertown restaurant/bar scene. I'm delighted to have experienced their evolution. Irish family owned the ATMOSPHERE here is classic pub/saloon with lots of dark wood and two full bars. There are about a dozen taps at the bars. You wouldn't call this a craft beer place but there are certainly crafts available both tap and bottle. The bartenders are excellent and kudos to management as most have been around for several years. The FOOD here is classic American with a few Irish influenced dishes thrown in. The menu here is extensive and it would be difficult for most folks not to find something that interests them. Expect the portions to be large. You can add Blackened Chicken or Blackened Salmon to some of the salads and I would highly recommend that. A huge spinach salad with blackened chicken is about $13 and fantastic. A very good burger will set you back $8-10 depending on your choice of toppings. They are famous for their Baked Clams at about $11. They have recently updated their menu and I was the first to try the Prime Rib Flatbread with caramelized onions for $10. It was filling and delicious! SERVICE here won't be a problem. The owners spend a lot of time on site and the staff is well trained. In addition the kitchen staff knows how to get your food out pretty darn quick. If you're in the neighborhood and looking for an adult libation, you'd feel welcome here. If you are looking for a Classic American dinner/drinks without taking out a second mortgage they would also be a solid choice. read more

Not the place to go if they are having a large party. It seems my review echos others. There was a bridal shower in the private room and it was all they could do to keep up with that. We never received our appetizers, one entree was wrong. Food was mediocre at best. The "manager" made excuses but never apologized. Then when we received our check not only were we charged for the apps we didn't receive but also an extra one! Will not be returning. I understand everyone is short staffed at the moment but this situation could have been handled a lot better! read more

We saw a review and a picture of the French onion soup. It looked good but the real thing was far from it. The crock it was served in was hot but the soup was barely warm. The cheese was barely melted. We also ordered a burger medium rare. It came out well done. I sent the burger back. I will never come back. A number of individuals had a going away party. Seems like a nice friendly bar overall, plenty of room to get around without tables being in the way which is always a major plus. Late night dinner orders replaced; burger and a cheesesteak, specifically requesting provolone. Steak came and immediately tasted funny. About 70% through I realized they put the wrong cheese on. For some reason American cheese and I just don't get along. Waitress finally came over here after sometime and asked if I wanted it boxed. I said it tasted terrible. I explained that it didn't taste right and didn't want it. She did offer to replace it but I simply explained I'm just not hungry anymore because I didn't feel well. A check for two people came and was very reasonable overall. I didn't expect the entrée to be completely removed, maybe partially comped but it was there, full price. I looked at the bill overall and saw that the server put the wrong cheese on the wrong sandwich. I totally get it and it happens. When I pointed it out to the server, she exclaimed out loud, oh I see I made a mistake... then still proceeded to charge me full price. I still gave her a decent tip because. Well, just because. It was a very busy room, and she seem to be a little overwhelmed with the number of people so, I'm just gonna give her the benefit of the doubt. Yesterday was my first visit to Tip O'leary's, as I am not down in the Upper Darby area too much. However, this was definitely a highlight of the trip! I loved aesthetic of the restaurant, very pub-esque. The service was slow at times but still fantastic, and the food was even better. You know when you can't decide between items on a food menu it is a promising sign, but when I finally did decide I ate every bite!! The beer was refreshing, the appetizer I had (Cheesesteak Spring Rolls) went very quickly, and the Chicken Parmesan Sandwich was just as appetizing. The prices were fair too. If I am down in the Upper Darby area again for a concert or for any other occasion, Tip O'leary's will definitely be worth another visit. read more

Went to The Yard for lunch today. Been there before and it's typically decent. But not today. My daughter ordered the crispy chicken sandwich, I got the chili. It was intensely salty, so sent it back and asked for the quesadilla. 15 minutes later, with not another diner in the place and my daughter's lunch all finished, mine had still not arrived. I asked our server - a young woman with long brown hair and no name tag - where my food was. When she replied it would be out soon, I said, "It's been 20 minutes! She's already done with hers!" To which she replied I was exaggerating and it would be out soon. Seriously! How about "I'm sorry, I'll check on it"?5-ish minutes later, I again inquired, increasingly irritated. I said I didn't think I wanted it anymore. She replied, "How about I pack it up for you?" No "sorry", "we'll take it off your bill", "Can I bring a fresh drink in the meantime"...nothing. Another 6 or so minutes and my now styrofoam-encased meal appeared in front of me. What a great lunch. I left a tip of one cent. Could've stayed home and got better. Final note: the chicken in my quesadilla seemed old. It was dry and extra chewy. All in all, a negative experience. Won't eat at The Yard again anytime soon. read more

The beers were definitely off - ordered a Blizzard of Hops (which I'm very familiar with) and it came out very watered down and tasted like a Miller Lite. So I ordered a Sterling Pig Snuffler IPA (which I'm also very familiar with) next - this one came out tasting very malty, which is NOT a Snuffler IPA. Either they have their tap lines mixed up, or the bar tender was pouring incorrect beers all night. The food was just ok, not great, and not terrible. I was there with my family for a school function. There were only 2 waitresses and one ignored our table while she went to tables that were seated after us. We had to wait for another waitress who came over and finally took our order. It took 20 minutes to get our drinks and over an hour waiting for our food. I'm not sure if they were short staffed but no one mentioned anything to us. I understand this time is difficult for businesses but at least let the customer know. My husband and I went here a few weeks ago. The staff was very friendly. The clientele was also very friendly. But what was the most surprising was the food. I had no expectations at all for bar food. Honestly, it was the best cheese steak I have ever eaten and I have tried many. The other food was also very good. Worst service - went to The Yard on Saturday night, walked into restaurant, it was not crowded, was told we could sit anywhere. We asked if we could sit outside, bartender replied yes. We went outside, sat down at a table, two waitresses walked past our table about 3 times, totally ignored us, after being ignored for about 10 minutes, we decided to go back inside, once again, same two waitresses walked past our table, we were starting to feel invisible. Finally made eye contact with bartender who had just finished yelling at the kitchen staff, she came over to our table, was beyond rude to us, she asked us what we wanted to drink, we asked if she had drink specials. She replied very sarcastically no we dont have drink specials, asked us if she should get us water while we decide, we replied yes, as soon as she walked away we decided we had enough poor treatment from the staff and decided to dine elsewhere. Will never ever go to this place again. They truly need to close down, what a lousy place. read more

My wife and I got cheesesteak egg rolls for an appetizer, which were pretty good, and she got a chicken cheesesteak, which was also good. However, I got the roast beef sandwich, which was awful. It was by far the fattiest meat I ever had on any sandwich. A large portion of the sandwich was completely inedible. It was described as roasted in house and sliced thin. If they truly roasted the beef themselves and thought the slices I got were fit to serve then that's even worse. Also it was described as served with au jus, in actuality the meat was just covered in a brown gravy. I figured a roast beef sandwich was a safe choice in a pub-type setting, but boy was I wrong! read more

The service and the atmosphere was top of the line. Outdoor eating area is perfect for a summer night. However the food was alright. Fish was good but the only fries they have are waffle fries. I came to Tip O'Leary's for the first time today, after living up the street for a few years. We're moving soon and I'm fairly sad about it because the staff here consists of some of the nicest people I've encountered since moving to Havertown. Jackie was our bartender and she was great. Quick to assist and super friendly, she was what makes a fantastic server. For lunch, I got the cranberry walnut chicken salad (with grilled chicken rather than the chicken salad, and they're very nice about doing that for you!). The portion was HUGE and the salad was very tasty. The chicken was cooked perfectly and the dressing (raspberry vinaigrette) was yummy. The salad was so big that I couldn't finish all of it. So many walnuts and cranberries leftover. Poor walnuts and cranberries, I am not worthy. They also have Not Your Father's Root Beer available, which is pretty great. They're talking about using it for a float, so that's very intriguing! I'll be back to try it for sure. read more

I have always gone to this pub but was surprised at the food on Monday night. We left the shore to get something to eat in Havertown! Big mistake!!! I always order the Bourbon burger and one was supposed to have bacon. I picked up the order and went outside. Began eating bc we were starving and noticed the fries looked as if they were from the bottom of the bag. Each one looked maybe an inch. I've never had fries anywhere as awful as these. The burger was supposed to have the sauce that's why we ordered that. I went inside to tell the man at the bar running the food orders through the register, his response was he had to wait for someone to cover him. He then went into the kitchen and brought out three cold containers of the sauce. One was not half full. I was very disappointed bc it was my birthday trip to the shore and I had raved about this burger to my friend. Waited two days to calm down and called. The girl answered and said she would give my message to the owner. It's a week later and I won't go back because it was close to fifty bucks and that's without drinks of any sort or a tip!!!! Forty dollars for two burgers and the fries were five dollars each!!! Must have a new cook that can't get it right or doesn't care what he serves!!! Not my money spent there again!!! read more
