My dad has been buddies with the owners since they opened. I don't remember what year that was because it feels like the owners have always been at that site making good food. My dad likes all of the omlettes and the biscuits and gravy for sure. The oatmeal with added raisins and nuts is very happy too. The waffles are the size of an enormous plate and are just a great example of what a buttermilk waffle should taste like. I can't believe that as a Carpinteria native I've never had breakfast at the Worker Bee Cafe! Loved it! The food and the service were excellent and the decor and atmostphere is fun and down home. I can't wait to bring my 4 year old daughter to eat here. She will love all the bee decorations. I was especially impressed that the cook came over to check on our food and see how we were doing. It made us feel special. Can't wait to go back. Oh, and I've never had someone ask me how I like my eggs within the normal ways. Stopped here while on our way to Santa Barbara. Great little spot and the older gentleman who was our server was a delight. Despite other reviews that said they had bad experiences with the service, we gave it a try. Those reviews couldn't have been more wrong! The owners Oscar and Jamie were amazingly friendly and the service was impeccable (and the food was delicious!). When we got there late morning, they were about out of decaf coffee so they had to make a new pot when I ordered it...and our server apologized! Huge portions, delicious food, and got to hear the story of why there are so many bees in the restaurant :) We'll definitely be back! read more

This place is awesome! The decor is super quirky and fun- real kitschy and not upscale which adds to its charm. The mom and pop who run the place are sweet and sassy, respectively. Food was good ol' home cookin- not going to win any culinary awards, but fresh and flavorful. I had an omelette with spinach, tomatoes and cheddar and the hubs had French toast. Just returned from Carpinteria Calif. - my Dad and I attended his 61st Class Reunion - love Carpinteria...such a wonderful place !! My family and I had been there many times and previously would have given it 5 stars. We met there today and what a terrible disappointment. We were bummed to hear it was under new ownership because we loved the homemde buiscuts and waffles. Today we ordered a waffe. It was thinner than an Eggo and was cold in the middle. The fries tasted freezer burnt obviously frozen. The chicken fried steak had no flavor at all. The bill was 45.00 for three people. Oh yeah, the service was terrible, My daughter had to get up and get her own silverware and water because we couldn't get anyones attention. I came here over the weekend with a couple of girl friends while on a birthday trip to Santa Barbara. The staff was AMAZING and the food was even better. A friend of mine asked the waiter if there were any alpacas around that we could visit and say hello to, and he came back ten minutes later with a hand drawn map! Our waiter was amazing, and the older gentleman (maybe the owner?) who brought us our food was fantastic. Any time I am in the area I will be sure to return. I really wanted to like The Worker Bee. The place was packed when we walked in. We sat at the counter in the last open spots. We got our drinks and menus right away and it only took a few minutes for our order to be taken. Then began the wait. Around us tables began complaining about how long they'd been waiting. A couple sitting further down the bar said they'd waited for more than half an hour and wouldn't wait any longer. In what seemed to be a few moments the restaurant had cleared out, several leaving without the food they'd ordered. Tables that had come in after our arrival and order began receiving their food. We questioned where our food was and what the hold up might be, and we're told that the others receiving their orders had ordered food that was "more simple to make." When the food arrived, we were unceremoniously told that they had sold out of the biscuits we ordered. The bacon in the omelette was entirely too salty overpowering the flavor of the meal. A "bowl of fruit" costing more than $5.00 was nothing more than a side bowl with a few pieces of watermelon. I could have purchased a whole organic, cruelty-free, free range, gluten-free, seedless watermelon for less than half of that cost. The wait staff was out of their element. They looked lost, adrift. The owner was running around from one fire to another, seemingly distracted by whatever he'd been working on a few minutes before. He stopped past the counter and we asked for a refill on our coffees. He gladly agreed, turned around to grab the pot and was distracted by some other issue, wandering off leaving us empty. We expressed concern with the time involved in placing and receiving our order, the taste of the food and the condition of the staff. The response from the all distracted owner was that they'd been slammed earlier, and were struggling with the overflow crowd from a recently closed "Cajun Kitchen"? As for the saltiness of the omelette, it was our mistake. Apparently we should have ordered the meal without spice and applied it ourselves I've the ordered arrived. Is too bad. They seem like nice people. They are just incapable of dealing with a full restaurant. read more

I had HIGH expectations for this cafe because of their solid reviews. But the food was average - my bacon was TOO crispy, like crunchy cardboard, my over medium egg was a bit burnt, and the gluten free French toasts were MEH. Just MEH. They charge $2 if you want to sub ANY item for something else. Like it costs them anything to scoop fruit instead of burn your bacon to put on your plate. They charge $1 for a take out tray for unfinished food. WHAAAATTT?? I found out later that I could've asked for better quality, pasture raised chicken eggs -- oh but that'll cost ya!!! $2 to switch your eggs. Don't you dare come in and try to change the menu or try to take a To-go container!!!! All this hype for burnt bacon, meh eggs, meh gluten free French toast. I was so disappointed. The waitress was superb though!! She's a doll. So sweet and kind -- but a little spazzy and frazzled -- but kind! The food was meh. :( I'm sad. read more

I loooove this place! I have been here 4x and always loved my meal. Friendly service and excellent food. Recommend their CORN BEEF HASH any day! The portions are big. my daughter loved the waffles with sweet apple and whip cream on top. We shared 2 dishes between 2 adults and a child and we still walked out STUFFED! One of the best cafes that I've eaten in. The owner is a super nice guy. He came to our table to talk to us several times. He told us he has a ranch. Very, very interesting person with lots of meaningful life experiences. Well it's no wonder he's so happy! Reminds me of the people who left the "good" (materialistic \'successful') life only to enjoy a much better, real and healthy lifestyle. This guy is really living life as it is meant to be. As a result, this spills over into what he loves to do: serve others and serve tasty, healthy food. And as if that wasn't enough, the eggs he uses are farm fresh, organic and from grass-fed chickens. Went there with my son on Tuesday 5/27. We were seated right away. The whole front of house was being serviced by one guy (rick, I believe). He was hustling and provided above par service to all in the restaurant. He recommended the chicken fried steak (which was really really good). My son (11 yrs old) got the pancakes breakfast w/ blueberries (w one egg and bacon). It was $2 to add blueberries, a little steep, but that's what my son wanted. Both meals were really good and well portioned. Price overall was fair given small beach community. There was a special that seemed really Weird that day, a waffle covered with pulled pork and an egg. The guy next to us seated at the bar got it and commented how good it was. We're from out of town and visited here as an alternative to IHOP or another chain in search of something a little more home style. Unfortunately, the owner couldn't handle a table being rotated to fit 5 people and threw a tantrum before we could get our food.
