I had driven by this place so many times and thought about dropping in. I finally made the trek over there as a midway meeting point to meet up with some friends in town. Let me first start with the customer service! They don't have a voicemail and I had called whether to confirm they were open the day we were going. The phone number advises texting. So I did. And they texted back so fast and were so helpful in making sure we would have plenty of time etc. And the service there in person was even better. We did come in on the later side but didn't feel rushed or like a bother at all! Grateful for that! Most of our party ordered the fish &chips... because what the heck else do you order at a pub?! lol. I was pretty impressed! The fish was crispy on the outside and good and flaky on the inside. Everyone was a fan! One person did have the bratwurst and had good things to say. I had a bite too and thought it was pretty good (brats aren't really my thing - but for someone who likes them, I can bet that you'd like this one!). As for drinks... The pour on my Guinness was perfection! Other people had ordered Smithwicks and I thought that was delicious as well! One other person had a glass of wine and was complimentary. I didn't try it myself. I'm not sure what this place looked like prior to the Wobbly Whale moved in but it seems like they upgraded and made it all new again. It does seem very classic British pub as far as the ambiance. It's a cozy gathering spot. I did see they have a trivia night and I intend to be back for that. This is one of those few restaurants that I couldn't tell you how many times I drove by and thought "man, I really want to check that place out" (especially during the previous era / ownership with the heavy British theming), so I finally decided to entertain myself. There was plenty of parking behind the building and upon entering the ambiance was okay, but the overall lighting was a bit bright. I was expecting a cozier vibe inside considering they're going for the whole "pub" thing. The small militia of staff were friendly and attentive enough. The draft Miller Lite I ordered was reasonably priced, but the entrees were a little steep. I ordered the "American Werewolf In London" (good burger / great movie) and there was some to be desired. The food was good I had fish and chips. Bonus points for the tartar sauce with dill- very good. So was the coating on the fish. Service was great too. The ambiance is definitely NOT British pub. I'm not sure the place knows what it is. They have a great selection of beers and wine. The food menu was just a bit limited. They have a bratwurst sandwich. Couple of good sounding burgers Too. It's not bad I think it needs to find its footing. If someone asked me what kind of cuisine. I couldn't answer. I have driven past this place on US 1 dozens of times. Today I was in the neighborhood and figured I would give it a try. It's basically an Irish/English pub with about 5 or 6 appetizers and 5 or 6 entrees. I had the fish and chips. It was three small pieces of fried fish and a serving of steak fries. Came in on a Tuesday at lunch. First visit since the new owners and updates. First impression is that this is not a British pub. It looks like a corporate dive bar. Americans love the look of what they think a traditional pub looks like. This misses that mark. Service was friendly and prompt. There was only one other customer at the time. The number of beers available and selection was good. As for the food.... The food menus was very limited. Except for the fish and chips, not very English. No shepherds pie, Indian food offerings, no Tika for the fries, no Scottish eggs. I had the fish and chips which was good. All-in-all, I left feeling "meh". I wish them well but there is nothing to entice me to take the 15 minute drive to come back. read more

I remember this place from when it was the kings head pub. I was disappointed that the fish and chips wasn't a whole piece of fish, and instead were like fish goujons. Prices were definitely more expensive than the former Kings Head. Our server managed to not clear away any dirty dishes before dessert came. Really sad that the restaurant is not better than it is. This is the second time we went there because I wanted to give it a second chance. First time was when it first opened and beer was good but took 2 hours until we were done and found that the fryer had been down and was being fixed. No communication that there was a problem. Fish was fine but small amt for $20 and fries came out cold first time and we were given new ones. So thought we would give it a second try tonight - Beer was good. Service was good. Brat was cold(and I sent it back and did not want to try anything else)and my wife's salad was all endive and nothing else (touted to be mixed greens, mixed with what we were not sure.) We have been anxiously awaiting the newly opened Wobbly Whale! We do recognize that they just opened so there will be some kinks to work out. Service was pretty slow for our first visit, but we let that slide. Once we finally got food- the pretzel was very good! I wish they would've either given more of the cheese-- since the pretzel was so big, or add a second dip like a specialty mustard. I had the smash burger with goat cheese. It was good, but I thought it was lacking in flavor slightly. We did like that for a football Sunday, it wasn't overly loud inside. We could enjoy the game, our food, and still have a conversation with each other. We will come again and reassess once they've been open for a little bit. read more

From British Pub to Bland Corporate Bar - An Absolute Travesty What a way to Cracker Barrel a beloved 30+ year St. Augustine favorite. The Wobbly Whale Public House is a textbook example of how to completely ruin a local institution that once had soul, charm, and authenticity. What used to feel like stepping into a warm, welcoming English pub has now been stripped down and repackaged into something utterly unrecognizable. It's nothing more than a soulless, overpriced, Americanized bar with a fake accent. To even call this place a "British pub" is laughable. Aside from the name and maybe the exterior, there's not a trace of British character inside. The decor is bland and minimal, the seating is limited and awkward, and the atmosphere feels like a half-hearted sports bar that's not sure what it wants to be. Seriously--have the new owners ever stepped foot in an actual English pub? Because anyone who's been to one would immediately see how far off the mark this place is. When they took over, it still had its charm. It was cute, thoughtfully decorated, and genuinely transported you to the UK. My husband and I were genuinely excited for the reopening... only to walk into a massive letdown. Now it's cold, characterless, and wildly overpriced. Whatever warmth and authenticity the previous version had has been erased. They didn't revamp it--they gutted it. If you're looking for real British pub atmosphere in St. Augustine, do yourself a favor and skip this place entirely. Bull & Crown Publick House and The Chatsworth Publick House actually understand what British hospitality and tradition are supposed to feel like. As for The Wobbly Whale? It's a complete failure. They've taken a local treasure and turned it into a generic, forgettable disaster. A real shame--and we won't be back. read more

Popped in on our way up US1. First time in since new ownership. We just missed the kitchen, so we'll have to come back for that, but we had a beer at the bar and were well taken care of by Heather and had some great conversation. I'm impressed by how clean and open the interior is and how much larger place feels! Will miss the dart board, but I understand the change. Looking forward to the future plans for the place! Absolute fun! What an amazing array of beer styles to choose from and their food pairs so well with the beer. I appreciate the finer touches like the right glass for the style of beer. I truly want to recommend this restaurant, and perhaps over time they will improve; however, the food quality is not good. Four of us ordered fish and chips - which was a specialty at Kings Head (former owner restaurant) abut these did not hit the mark, as a matter of fact, it was a far miss. The Old English Pub atmosphere is totally gone, which is a shame. The new owners are definitely trying to do it right, but they have a ways to go. We will try it again a month or so to see if they have improved to tolerable. On the good side, the waitress was perky and friendly, but the wait was longer than expected, given the emptiness of the restaurant. Will try again. read more

They have a great beer selection and a great place to watch sports. The only thing keeping from a 5 star for me is they use beef tallow to cook with. Although I respect that they clearly advertise that, I am a pescatarian and it limits my food intake and time I could spend there. Great local pub. Always a friendly atmosphere. My favorite thing is the selection of traditional English, German, and Belgian beers on tap. Most places these days just do American Craft beers on tap which is nice, but these traditional European beers take me back t what I drank 20 years ago before the American craft beer explosion. We went for lunch days after the Wobbly opened. I gave it a three star because I felt it appropriate. I'm sure the new owners read these reviews, and I trust they will act accordingly to make improvements suggested by the reviewers as positive customer experiences lead to continued growth . That having been said, when we were there we ordered the fish and chips. The batter was a bit under cooked. I also asked for a black and tan beer like the one I normally get at the Eagle Bar in Cambridge. I was a bit disappointed to find that the Wobbly does not serve this brew. No problem. This place is new. We will give it another shot in a few months. There is still time for improvement. read more

This bar has an awesome selection of really nice beers that are hard to find elsewhere. The bartender Heather rocks. Recommended!
