    Oh you fancy.

Stopped by for a quick happy hour with some friends and had a nice time. The bartender/server was wonderful and we had just a couple appetizers. The food was decent and the drinks were lovely. It was pretty quiet when we got there and was just starting to pick up when we left. I think that's the time to go. It's prob my best experience here yet! I'm not sure that I'm ready to dip my toes in for a full meal experience again but definitely trending up in my book!

Trendy vibe, excellent service, great food and plenty of parking. We stopped by for dinner on Friday night, definitely make a reservation as this is a popular location. Had a wonderful scallop dish, perfectly prepared. I was initially anxious about the service, since the hostess seemed to be a bit mechanical in the way she welcomed guests, but the rest of the service team was incredibly engaging. Pricing is reasonable, a wonderful value in the area.

Second time coming here and it's still tasty! Our waiter was great and so knowledgeable of the menu and suggesting some great eats. The oysters were delicious and the fried pickles are a fav of mine personally! The restaurant offers a nice vibe and I really like how you can see the scratch kitchen. Overall, this place is great.

I hate that I can't remember my servers name because I'm doing my review a month late but he was fantastic from start to finish and everything in between. My sweet sweet girlfriend and I were gifted gift cards to ember and iron so we ended up going here for our anniversary dinner! It was really nice and quiet, with great music in the background. Intimate spot with great food and drinks. Would definitely love to go back. No complaints at all.

I love Ember and Iron, always friendly, attentive, and truly makes you feel welcome throughout the entire meal. Unfortunately this visit fell flat. The food didn't quite match the experience; while well-presented, it lacked the flavor and depth we were hoping for. The pork had no flavor and the dough was soggy and falling off of the pork chop. The corn cakes were a bit bland as well. All other items were amazing.

I'll go ahead and admit that I did the "happy food dance" at the table. And I'd do it again! lol The restaurant itself overall is well situated with inside and outside seating, along with a full well-stocked bar. Each time I've been there the staff I've been very attentive and very helpful. I previously had another favorite located in the St. Johns town center, but I think this is my new go-to, date-night, and birthday-dinner favorite. The food... I think they have great portions. Not too big not too small. Great size for a shared appetizer, dinner and a light dessert. The only thing I've ever questioned here was the cornbread. The second time I got it it was a little overcooked. But he quickly took it back and brought out another, which was about two minutes overdone but definitely edible, though not as good as the first time. But please, don't let that stop you from going. This place is delicious!

Once again, we had a spectacular date night at Ember and Iron. It truly offers the best bang for your buck when you're craving a great steak dinner. One thing I really appreciate is how, unlike many restaurants, they've narrowed their menu to a smaller selection of entrees and clearly focused on perfecting each one. The attention to detail really showed in the Braised Short Rib, where all the flavors came together in a wonderfully harmonious dish. While it's usually served with grits, I personally prefer pairing it with mashed potatoes. It's a small swap, but one that makes the dish even better for me. Beyond the food, the service elevated the entire experience. Our server, Joshua, went the extra mile to make our date night feel special and was extremely knowledgeable about the entire menu. To round things out, the cocktails were fantastic, and I would absolutely recommend the Gingerbread Old Fashioned. Overall, I'd say this place has surely become a regular spot for us and will continue to stay in our date night rotation.

My daughter treated me to an early Mother's Day dinner a couple of weeks ago. We chose here because she had never been and wanted to try it. We had reservations and were promptly seated. You can definitely smell the wood-fire grill but it's not overwhelming at all. The fried Brussels sprouts with bacon jam is normally a side dish however we ordered it as an appetizer. We both enjoyed it, especially that bacon jam :). To save room for dessert, we shared the ribeye. There's a $4 charge for splitting a meal which is reasonable since they give you both full servings of the sides. Even sharing the meal we had leftovers. The ribeye was finished with an herb butter and was very tender and tasty. The crispy garlic parmesan potatoes were also delicious. They are baked then slightly smashed then quickly fried in beef tallow...yummm. We ended our meal very much enjoying every last bite of the skillet chocolate chip cookie. To top it all our sever was amazing. Will definitely go back to try the chimichurri steak.

    Corn bread. Yum!

Probably the best more formal ding locations on the CR210 area. Nice restaurant. Great service with delicious options The cornbread is one of our regular go to items. The chimichurri steak is always excellent. Fantastic whiskey selection. This time, I did a flight of bourbons. You get to pick 4 and do either a half or full pour. Definitely not a cheap place to eat. Still, a good option for a better meal with great food and drink options.

Second time dining here and it did not disappoint. We made reservations for the patio and it was a great spot for a quiet dinner without having to "yell" over the noise to have a conversation. Our server (I can't believe I don't remember her name!) was absolutely amazing! She was over-the-top professional, pleasant, and efficient with everything. She made great suggestions and checked in often. Our food was all hot and looked amazing. We started with the cowboy fries which were not my favorite. They weren't bad, but I wouldn't order again. I chose the crispy chicken thigh sandwich which made me forget all about the mediocre starter. The chicken was perfectly fried and super tender but the sauce and house made pickles made the sandwich. My husband got the lamb chop special which was also good (he said my sandwich was better). We skipped dessert but they had multiple options that sounded delicious. We did not have cocktails but the ones we saw served at nearby tables were pretty impressive. We often forget about this place because it is tucked into a shopping center but we definitely want to come more often.

I was excited by the menu but I don't think the flavors delivered the way I expected. My crab cake Benedict was flavored decently. The side salad didn't really have any dressing on it. I got the side crispy garlic Parmesan potatoes and they were kind of burnt and again not what we expected, they didn't have much flavor and they were just whole large potatoes that were fried and barely seasoned. My mimosa was good. My friends thought their entrees were also ok overall. I'd give them a 3.5 for our experience today. I would go back to try their dinner to see if it's any better. It's an affordable place and cute brunch destination! They had the jags game playing as well in the corners.

The fish and chips with dipping sauces in the background. Really needs a garnish.

I was on a ride up into Jacksonville and then back home, a bit of a loop just to see some things. Heading back, I took a non-traditional route. Unfortunately, it was starting to rain, and a good sized thunderstorm was coming through, so I started scouting for a place to pull over and perhaps grab a bite to eat. Thus, I found Ember & Iron. Frankly, as I approached the place, I was thinking that it was going to be a steakhouse of some sort. Not so. The menu is more along the lines of a high-end sports bar, aiming for the diner that wants to explore some different tastes in classic dishes. It can be hit or miss with that sort of thing, obviously. Sometimes you just don't want to mess about with a classic dish and its flavour profile. Since I was solo, and this was a Sunday afternoon, the place was busy with the church crowd, so I opted for a seat at the bar as that is always first-come first-serve. I went over the menu thoroughly, and even took a quick walk around the floor to look at some of the things that people were eating to see if there was anything that leapt out at me as being "Get This!" Eventually I opted for the beef carpaccio for an appetizer and the Fish and Chips for my main. The carpaccio was excellent, and would also make a great sharing dish for two. The fish and chips? Well, it was acceptable, but the portion size was on the small side for the expense. A single fillet on a bed of mid-level fries and a couple of dipping sauces was kind of sad. Not even any garnish to make the plate pop. The dish really needs work, considering the other dishes that I was seeing. Frankly, this is not a place that I would be intentionally going back to. If I were passing through the area again at the right time, and I had already been to other places to try them out, I would probably go back.

Even though we had a reservation, it didn't seem to make a difference. We waited about 15 minutes just to find a host or hostess to be seated. During that time, we saw several other groups leave because no one was available to greet or seat them. It wasn't the best first impression and definitely set the tone for the visit. Once we were seated, the food was excellent. You can really tell that everything is made from scratch, and the quality and freshness stood out. The Garlic Parmesan Brussels Sprouts, topped with garlic aioli and Parmesan cheese, were delicious and packed with flavor. I also ordered the Kale Caesar Salad with grilled chicken, which was fresh and well-balanced with house greens, Parmesan cheese, and Caesar vinaigrette. My little ones ordered the Crispy Southern Fried Chicken Fingers with fries, and they both really enjoyed their meals. Overall, the food was definitely the highlight of our visit, but the service and lack of organization upon arrival could use improvement. If they can address the front-of-house experience, it would make for a much better visit.

I'll let the photos from other reviews do the talking, but if you enjoy a good backstory, ask about the history of the space. My mission for the night was simple: end the evening with a great gin cocktail. I started with the Donna Bella from the menu. It was well made, but I thought the bitters were a little too forward for my taste. Next, I asked for an off-menu modification: a Water Lily for Teresa, but made with Roku Gin. It was a strong contender--aromatic, balanced, and beautifully floral. If you're a fan of a French 75, this is a fun cocktail to explore. It's less citrus-forward and leans into a floral profile with a character that's hard to compare to anything else. For the final round, I went with bartender's choice. Mick asked a few questions about my flavor preferences and absolutely nailed it. They crafted a cocktail with Roku gin, snap pea cordial, aloe liqueur, egg white, lemon simple, mint, and citrus that was easily the highlight of the night. Fresh, layered, and memorable, it's a drink that deserves a permanent spot on the menu....Mission accomplished. If you're willing to wander beyond the barbershop business front and you consider yourself a spirit explorer, Volstead is well worth the visit. Go for a round...or two. If you're local, this could easily become your staple spot. For what it is, strong craft cocktail bar option. Bartenders choice is the way to go.

Location is great, and the staff seemed friendly. It's good to have a place in Jacksonville with an environment like this and a place where you can go and listen to jazz/blues. I wish there was more like this, maybe with a little bit of older, jazz, musicians and more people who appreciate jazz as it didn't seem like the audience was 100% jazz lovers, but that doesn't detract too much especially since there's not a lot of places in Jacksonville that do what they're doing here.

The combination of imaginative cocktails, exceptional food, and a unique atmosphere makes every visit memorable. The cocktail program is outstanding. We enjoy trying a variety of their exotic and inventive drinks, and they never disappoint. The flavors are bold, creative, and unlike anything you'll find at a typical restaurant bar. The Yellow Submarine cocktail is quite possibly the best drink I have ever consumed. Made with curry-infused Bermuda black rum, lime, ginger, and Asian five-spice brown sugar syrup, it sounded unusual on paper but came together beautifully. I enjoyed it so much that I ordered four of them that evening, something I rarely do. That was three years ago, and despite returning several times since then, I have never seen it on the menu again. The food is equally impressive. Two years ago, I ordered the Skillet Roasted New York Strip served with Yukon Gold potato-anna, roasted asparagus and spring onions, watercress, and black truffle hollandaise. To this day, it remains one of the top five restaurant meals I have ever eaten. Every component on the plate was exceptional. The steak was perfectly prepared, the crispy potato galette was irresistible, and the black truffle hollandaise elevated the entire dish to another level. It was the kind of meal that stays with you long after the plate is cleared. I would gladly drive 300 miles just to eat it again. Most recently, I had the wild mushroom bisque, and it was the best soup I have ever consumed. Rich, creamy, buttery, intensely mushroomy, and perfectly balanced, it was everything a mushroom soup should be. The addition of crispy pickled onions and crème fraîche added texture and contrast that made an already outstanding soup even better. My wife and I enjoyed it so much that we returned the very next day hoping to order it again, only to discover it had already rotated off the menu. My only complaint about The Ice Plant is that some of their greatest creations seem to disappear as quickly as they arrive. While I appreciate the constantly evolving menu and understand that seasonal changes are part of what makes the restaurant special, there are certain items that deserve a permanent home. The Yellow Submarine cocktail, the wild mushroom bisque, and the Skillet Roasted New York Strip with black truffle hollandaise are three of the finest things I have experienced there. The fact that I can vividly remember one of these items from three years ago and another from two years ago says everything. Great restaurants serve good food. Truly special restaurants create dishes and drinks that stay with you for years. The food was extremely delicious. We ordered the Half Pound Ice Plant Burger and it was juicy, fresh, and packed with flavor. You could taste the quality in every single bite--the meat was perfect, the ingredients fresh, and everything very well balanced. Definitely one of the best burgers I've had recently. Despite the initial host experience, I would return without hesitation for the food and the atmosphere. Highly recommended, but they could improve the initial greeting.
