Was visiting town and spent two different nights visiting this bar. I was so impressed with the drinks the first night, we had to come back on Friday. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Thursday crowd was nice and slow and quiet. Got our drinks quickly and tons of seating.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Friday night before Halloween it was packed! We got our drinks, but you needed to make it through the crowd to get to the bar lol[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. Which isn't a bad thing, all good signs of a good place that people like to be! I truly couldn't tell you the names of any of the drinks I ordered, but I ordered a lot. Not a single drink either night disappointed. I wish I was local so I could back time and time again. Service was great, bar is trendy and cool, people are fun to be around and overall just a gem of a place. My first time here and came with a bunch of friends for a birthday celebration. Staff was a little grumpy but it was a busy Saturday night so I won't hold it against them. Stopped by on a Saturday evening. IDs were being checked at the main entrance, but the side door with the "shhh" sign was open, and no one there to check IDs. Stopped in while in town on a work trip and my manager and I had a couple drinks. I was really impressed with the bourbon and rye selection they had and they were more than willing to chat about some of the unique offerings. I started with an old fashioned and then realized they had Angels Envy Rye, a personal favorite and switched it up to that. We were cheerfully served by bartender Rebecca who poured two perfect drinks. Hubby had an old fashioned and loved it. I had a martini which was great. All the drinks are served in festive Christmas bar ware and some are even available to buy. We went on a Monday and FYI most businesses are closed on this day. I was kinda shocked that I hadn't done a review for Grape & Grain so I guess I'll get one done now. We came in on a Saturday afternoon and grabbed a drink at the bar (was a little too early for the speak easy). The staff was extremely friendly and I had to get myself a Gold Rush for my drink. The Gold Rush is Bourbon, Honey, and Lemon. 3 simple ingredients that make an amazing cocktail. Ashley and I were only planning on staying for one drink but our drinks were so good we had to have another. Grape & Grain also selling bottles so if you get something you after trying it out at the bar. They have a pretty good selection too. They also do their own barrel picks sometimes so something to keep in mine too because they are always amazing. The speakeasy is also a great place to grab a drink in a cool environment. Grape & Grain really makes me wish I lived in San Marco. read more

One of my favorite spots in Jax for an amazing old fashioned, live music and a cool atmosphere. The bartenders KNOW what they are doing and I love the speakeasy vibes. I came here for a drink since I heard they have a good whiskey menu. It was Saturday night and this place was lively!! The front of the establishment is Dimly lit for a chill ambience.. talk to your friends/date over a wine, beer, or whiskey.. which they all have great selections of. If you're more in the mood to dance or have a little more pep to your step head towards the back and through the curtains where you will find the club. I really loved the place but could not give it 5 stars because one of the bartenders in the back was whining for 8 minutes about someone not tipping them and was VERY vocal about it. I get it bro, you wanted a $5 tip for pouring a shot; too bad you started to ruin the mood of many onlooking patron's with your temper tantrum. Besides that one bartender, this place is still highly recommended! read more

Can you say Holly Jolly? The grape and grain exchange has the most festive drinks in town, you might even confuse it with the north pole based on the pictures! Come December, the bar is decked out in christmas lights, garland, and even upside down trees hanging from the ceiling. It's stocked with cute glasses shaped like santa's belly, a T-Rex with a santa hat on, which can be filled with rum spiced chai , snowball old fashioneds, and more winter treats! Feeling frisky? there's 2 seasonal shots; one called "naughty" and one called "nice" which are burbon or peppermint chocolate depending on which list you end up on! The decorations are incredible, and the bartenders are mastering the holiday cocktails. There's also plenty of beer to choose from as well. If you can't wait for the holidays to be over, that's fine because all year long Grape & Grain is an awesome bar & shop in the front with a speakeasy lounge in the back! They even have a small amount of outdoor tables to people watch the San Marco square. This year my favorite holiday drink was the eggnog, which is served cold fyi, & is very smooth & flavorful. 2nd fav was the T Rex! Came back for a second time tonight, and got Rachel as my bartender. She's super sweet and makes a GREAT expresso martini! I love the foam layer on them here. Instead of respectfully communicating this policy to us, there was a worker with striped hair and glasses who started yelling at us and cursing at us, telling us that we needed to and I quote, "get the fuck out of his restaurant". This could've been an easily resolvable situation given that there seems to have just been a communication barrier where he assumed that we were not going to make any purchases, when in reality, we were just trying to make a decision of what we were wanting to purchase. However, his aggressive approach was, and still remains highly inappropriate. He immediately assumed that we weren't there for business. It was an extremely aggressive encounter and we are very disappointed by it. His behavior made the ambience in there feel very unwelcoming. So if you were thinking of trying this place out. Save your money for somewhere where customer service is actually up to par. if you're going to pay for an overpriced and average beverage, you might as well be treated kindly for it.

It was a strong contender--aromatic, balanced, and beautifully floral. If you're a fan of a French 75, this is a fun cocktail to explore. It's less citrus-forward and leans into a floral profile with a character that's hard to compare to anything else. For the final round, I went with bartender's choice. Mick asked a few questions about my flavor preferences and absolutely nailed it. They crafted a cocktail with Roku gin, snap pea cordial, aloe liqueur, egg white, lemon simple, mint, and citrus that was easily the highlight of the night. Fresh, layered, and memorable, it's a drink that deserves a permanent spot on the menu....Mission accomplished. If you're willing to wander beyond the barbershop business front and you consider yourself a spirit explorer, Volstead is well worth the visit. Go for a round...or two. Among other things I usually like, they had carrot cake for $7 and a cup of cheesecake for $9 (which seems steep). Their fruit shaped pastries looked beautiful (and a couple next to us said they loved the mango one), but were $12 each. Their fruit-topped Danishes also looked delicious, but weren't available any more at lunch time. They also offer milk shakes and loaded (sweet) croissants. There are only four stools here next to a bar, if you want to eat in. The bathroom was pretty good. I probably wouldn't come here again, but if I were in the area I might try some of their other pastries or sweet treats.
