Wetlab is a great place for a reasonably priced beer and an amazing waterfront view! Located inside the Rosensteil School of Marine and Atmospheric Science, the bar is a bit hard to find but it's worth the search. It's very different from most bars in Miami and is definitely divey (it's in a school, so that shouldn't be surprising), but it's worth it for the view and the low key atmosphere. I was here most recently on a Friday night and they had a band playing live music. Beers were $4-$8 depending on the type when I was there, and they have a nice selection for such a small space. They have wine as well but I didn't have any so I can't speak to their selection or quality. read more

This place is not what it appears to be at first. You got to walk through an academic building and I didn't think we were in the right place. It looks like it's an cafeteria that has a pool table in it. It resides on the waters of Key Biscayne. Nuts, but the drinks are freaking cheap. Too bad it was only a cash bar (I never carry cash....grrr) and Michelle Z. was super sweet to buy me a screwdriver. Thank you again! I enjoyed the damn breeze and the damn good time that I had last night here for the after party. The damn drive held me back from consuming more drinks than what I normally would consume. Vodka & tonic for 4 bucks. I don't really know if I need to say anything more, but there is also the kick-ass view of the water, the laid back atmosphere, and the cool people. I can definitely see the charm. This is not a regular bar by any means. I can't compare it to anything else I've ever been to. The Wetlab reminds me most of of the Room of Requirement where the Harry Potter kids used to secretly meet at to practice their spells. It's on campus, hard to find, has a casual atmosphere and it feels like its YOUR secret place to chill. Walking through the school's hallways and underneath a giant shark hanging from the ceiling lies the bar, bright under fluorescent lighting. Kind of like walking into someone's awkward house party where the hosts have no idea how to create atmosphere. There were even children running around which made me uneasy towards the end as I fell under the cheap alcohol's spell. Luckily (and unluckily as you will read), there's a large outdoor area facing the bay, which is really pretty under the moonlight. There are plenty of large round tables that you can casually sit at, or you can lean on the ledge facing the water. Unfortunately - this area needs to be avoided at all costs during the summertime. When I left the Wetlab, I noticed about twenty or so massive mosquito bites all over the exposed part of my feet. I spent the next couple of days nursing the itch and cursing the bar. The cheap drinks were their saving grace. I don't believe I paid more than $4 for a mixed drink. The closing time is subjective - i had read that they closed before 11 PM on Friday's, but I think they stay open later so long as there is business. The guys at the pseudo-bar even joined in the drinking festivities toward the end which was nice to see. So if you go - bring mosquito repellent and don't be afraid to ask the wandering students for directions, it's not easy to find at all. read more

Simply the best bar in Miami, period. This waterfront haven is home to $2.75 well drinks, a dog-friendly atmosphere and the best view this side of the Keys. Frankly, I'm not sure why I drink anywhere else. The bartenders rock, the company makes me feel like a co-ed again, and the hideaway locale means it's not invaded by obnoxious tourists. In fact - if you don't know exactly how to get here - you'll never find it, which makes the term "hidden gem" quite literal. Wetlab, I love you. read more

The secret of RSMAS! If you don't know someone who studies Marine Science at UM, you probably have not gone to Wet Lab. I would say that the drinks are quite cheap, and the view is nice. There is always a breeze. But honestly the crowd is weak. I went there numerous times because I was dating a masters student there, and my roommate is dating a guy getting his PHD at RSMAS. But the only people who really hang out there are graduate students and advisers from the school. Usually they are unfriendly to the non RSMAS crowd, and you have to socialize amongst yourselves. Indeed a great place! Right by the water and how can you beat the bar prices?? I had actually been here many moons ago for wedding. Certainly another great use for this location, although a little limited on space if you have a very large party. What else to say about this place? Come on out and enjoy. This is no fancy décor or setup, just no thrills great location and VERY economical. I actually like the architecture and spacial layout of the terrace. It's a little off but really works with the landscape/edge of the water and rough concrete is so typical for 70's building in Miami. Maybe they can use some instructional signs here. This is one of the most affordable places in the area and it has a nice relaxed vibe. The food is decent and the cider on tap is great. I don't drink beer but my friends have enjoyed. It's basically in a school cafeteria so there isn't much ambiance unless you go outside on the deck which is nice because it's right on the water. This place is cool. It's like a bar in a cafeteria in a school. Nonetheless we came for the cheap beer and cheap beer there was. I really like that there is an outdoor area with plenty of chairs and tables to hangout at. It's next to the ocean and that's as romantic as it will get, unless you make it in time for the sunset. It's the perfect place to pre party if you're making your way to the beach at night. I just wish they were open everyday for a longer period of time. read more

Wetlab is an authentic dive bar. Each morning, divers drill into the bottom of the Atlantic to harvest fish excrement. From there, they refine and enrich it in the bar. It was a beautiful Thursday evening so decided to head to Lionesse Wetlab to have a drink. There did seem to be a limited selection of food items, but I only ordered a few craft beers. Quality Lionesse Wetlab has a small, but excellent collection of beers on tap. There is a blackboard listing the beers and on it is something regardless of your taste. The bar also has a few different wine options as well, but it definitely is a beer locale. Quantity Definitely solid pours of beers and from looking at the glass of wine another woman was enjoying, those pours are as generous as they come. Value Definitely some of the cheapest beer you are going to find in Miami. When you first see the blackboard you probably will assume it is all on special, but it stays that way all hours. Ambiance The Wetlab bar is a fantastic dive bar with beautiful views hidden away in the University of Miami Marine School. First thing you have to understand is you have to work for this bar, theres no clear place to park, no signs, and the campus is pretty deserted so you have to navigate it on your own. Just know that the bar is located in the back corner away from the Seaquarium right on the water. The bar itself is in a small corner of a bigger cafeteria space. It is underwhelming, but all that is necessary because you grab your beer and head to the deck. The deck overlooks the remainder of Key Biscayne as well as a small channel that runs through it. When the weather is beautiful you can sit out and watch as boats calmly pass by as well as enjoy birds hunt for their dinner. The music tends to be quiet and very relaxing and most of the chatter just comes from the regular graduate students that frequent the bar. Crowd On a Thursday evening the crowd was small but a bit rowdy. Almost everyone there was clearly a Marine student from the University of Miami, many of whom looked like they spent the day on a boat or at the beach. Definitely don't get dressed up as you will look out of place as everyone there is wearing flip flops and shorts. However, don't confuse the crowd for a college bar, it is much more laid back drawing its crowd from the Graduate population, not the new to drinking undergraduates. Service The bartender was extremely friendly and quick with pouring beers. The staff clearly knew most of the crowd and made their rounds. Seemed like everyone working was having as good of a time as those hanging out. Parking Parking can be confusing, but if you head out later in the evening there are plenty of spaces on the campus you can park in. However, the earlier you go you need to be cautious as they do monitor whether you have parking passes. However, the bar doesn't really open until 5 so you are probably safe. Also, expect the gate to be closed if you stick around later, but it opens automatically when you pull up from inside the school. Extra Lionesse Wetlab is definitely on the list of essential dives and hidden gems for Miami. It has beautiful views, cheap drinks, and a very relaxed atmosphere. Just keep in mind you have to work for it the first time and the hours are limited so always check to see if they are open before heading out. read more

I usually don't go over here & the experience wasn't spectacular enough to warrant bridge tolls or a nasty drive in traffic. Came here after the Yelp Elite event and boy was I in for a surprise. What a great little hidden spot away from all the Miami craziness. Located in the UM campus on the Key, Wetlab has a view of the ocean and city. After walking for what seemed like 2 miles, I finally came upon the bar, that's in the middle of the campus right in the dinning hall. The best part about this joint is the cheap drinks! For 5 bucks I got a Stella and a Dale's Pale Ale. No where in Miami can you find this kind of deal! read more

Far away from all that is materialistic about Miami... this bare bones bar with a bountiful selection of awesome beers, liquor (I think, but don't pass up the beer) and a spectacular view of Key Biscayne makes me nostalgic about what Miami must have been like 30 years ago. They have both inside seating too -but it gives that all to much feel of a college cafeteria... as it probably is during the day. Sure the corridors of college make some people nervous - and the entrance makes you feel as if your entering a jail... but all is soon forgotten once you have your IPA and a plastic chair outside. A true dive bar! Run by-and for-UM students, they still let the rest of us in. Wet Lab is a great place to meet up after work. They do not have food, but pizzas can be delivered or you can bring your own then settle down for cheap drinks and gazing at the sunset. The patrons are what make this place great. It is a shorts and flip-flops crowd but also super cerebral - engineers, doctors, lawyers, marine biologists... Drunken conversations are hilarious here and not your typical Miami douchiness. I love that you can nerd out here and not be judged. read more

Super Cheap Beer, Chilling Location, Fake sharks on the ceiling by the entrance, 1989 public school bathrooms... YES! Its basically a bar on the UM RSMAS campus in the back. They have a pool table and a small bar area. Indoors they have cafeteria seating but outside they have a ton of plastic tables and seats. The beer is $6-7 for a pitcher and the cups were $2 for drafts. They also had some nicer beer by the bottle for $4. read more

I absolutely LOVE this place! They have an absolutely beautiful spot, right off the Rickenbaker, and the prices are better than anywhere in Miami, especially for pitchers of beer. The selection is pretty good for the small spot as well. The atmosphere is chill, and the bartenders are friendly. Fellow UM Grad Students trekked from the mainland for a student mixer at the Wet Lab last night and found a mix of students, professors, and locals chilling in low key paradise. The friendly, mellow staff served up $3.50 selection of great drafts and low-brow but drinkable wine, while reggae beats filled the room. Word on the street is that a recent change of catering companies impacted the bar's ability to serve hard alcohol but I can't say I minded a bit. As we watched the sun set over the bay, I really felt like I had left Miami and I enjoyed the escape. read more

One of the best hidden gems I have found in Miami. The bar is hidden in the back corner of the University of Miami campus on Biscayne. The inside bar is tiny, but has a large selection of beers all of which are at very reasonable prices. They also had a few different wines and the bartenders provide very generous pours. I went on a Thursday and because it was summer they did not have food, but they said during the fall and spring school semesters they open the kitchen as well. The bar has very limited hours, but it is a tremendous place to watch the water. You can sit on the porch overlooking the causeway and enjoy the views of the rest of the key. Got lucky and was able to watch the police boats patrolling and chasing boaters who entered restricted areas. Not a flashy place, but if you want to show off that you know of some cool hidden spots it is perfect. After a day at the beach it would be a perfect stop off for happy hour. Definitely worth a return trip. read more
