Cute lil place. They seen to have a nice schedule of weekly events. While on vacation my family and I had dinner here. It was their trivia night, I believe there was a $1500 pot if you win. Everyone seemed to be playing. We arrived to late to join. The place was packed yet there were only two servers. Our server was running around like a chicken with her head cut off. However she managed to keep up with out party of 9. There were times we were waiting for assistance however we could see she wasn't just sitting on her ass. We order burgers, flat breads, tenders and steak tacos. Steak tacos were horrible Burgers were delicious Flatbread were good Tenders definitely looked like they were frozen tenders from the grocer. The beverages were nice not too strong but not weak. We were kinda profiled however as a black person you get use to it. My husband and brother stepped out for a smoke break..although everyone else was still seated at the table. We watched security run out after them. We laughed cause they looked stupid. I wanted to write this place off as a touristy haunt given its location and its typical South Beach prices, but we had a really good experience here. I realized that I had not actually been to this location since it was The Playwright (or whatever it was called) 4 or 5 years ago. The updated interior is nice - very "pubby" - and they offer a good variety of seating from bar seats to high-tops to couches. Two things here that were standouts: First, the burger is one of the best burgers I've had on South Beach. So much so that I'm craving it again this morning. They've done a good job with the menu in that it still has all those bar foods that you look for in a place like this, but they've put some thought into elevating a number of items (e.g. the short rib poutine!) Second, the service was great. Our server (sorry, can't remember his name - a nice guy from Kendall) was very friendly and provided excellent service. As many reviews mention, this is definitely a place to watch a game. While we weren't there for this purpose last night, the TV setup is great and I could def see myself camping out there with a few beers on a weekend afternoon. My only issue was the food always came out lukewarm temperature at best, whether it's fries or a meal. If I'm ordering a hot food item, I expect it to be hot. Drink service is fast, food service not so much especially if there's a game on. Beware that there is a minimum spend at Mickey' Burkes, depending on the event, it can range from a minimum spend of $25 to $100 per person. Gratuity of 20% is automatically charged to the bill and there's a 2% resort tax... even though this is not a hotel... guess it's a Miami Beach thing. The space a person takes up at Mickey Burkes demands a certain premium to be paid so don't expect to stay with just buying cheap drinks, unless you buy lots of them. Although my most recent stop was Saturday Night for a Washington Avenue pubcrawl, looking through the pictures I realize I'd been at Mickey Burkes more than a few times whether after a Miami Music Week show or Food & Wine Fest after party. It's a solid sports bar right on Washington Avenue with lots of TV's showing a multitude of games, along with a stage for a cover band. This most recent visit (pub crawl), I enjoyed a strong whiskey & blue curacao cocktail. It was a pleasant surprise to enjoy a solid pour at this kind of event! Went for the NBA playoffs with a few friends and had a really good time. Place had a great energy once the game started and every big play got a reaction from the whole crowd. The amount of TVs is honestly impressive. Didn't matter where we were standing, we could still see the game clearly. You guys don't even smoke your old fashioned. Not even Swizzle or Sylvester is charging $24 for such cocktails and they make better drinks. I like coming here because it's chill and reasonable but not this visit. I've been here many times and this is probably the last. This place is an awful place to go to watch Football and all fans of teams other than Liverpool should boycott the place. Went to watch Arsenal Tottenham game at 1130 and they pushed all the football fans into a corner of the pub and said that they would only be showing the match there despite it being one of the biggest matches of the year. Then they told me that they would not put on the sound because it might conflict with NFL games. I pointed out that those games didn't start for 1.5 hours and they said, "manager said we cant" and just played terrible music. The "bouncer" asked us to pay $20 each to enter the restaurant, mind you, the game is in the fourth quarter. We have never had to pay a cover to get into a restaurant. The Indiana group ended up making a reservation for a large group of us on Wednesday. That's when we met Maddie, another one that waited on us. She was just friendly as Julia. We also got to meet who I believed to be the manager (Alex-I think). He was working side by side with the other employees and jumped right in. Mickey Burkers just opened recently in South Beach but it feels like it has been there forever. It's a small chain but you definitely can't tell inside. Weather you're a local or a visitor, you are welcomed with hospitality. Inside is a pretty efficient layout. You have the bar stretching the length of the establishment with seating in front with a few different zones attached. Near the entrance you'll see cozy couches and a photo op for Social Media. The rest of the bar is mainly high tops. The bar has just about anything you could want. Draft beer, bottle beer, local craft, wine, alcohol and some house drinks. The house drinks are nicely crafted and infused well. The Lafies First is definitely recommended if you like lavender. It has some gin and prosecco. The highly recommended drink for me is the Down the Corner. Banana infused Angel's Envy. It's garnished with a banana slice. This drink has a lot of depth to it but easy to drink, a must try. There's a good amount of food. Didn't get to try out much, the drinks were the focus. Will definitely come back and try more! read more
