A bit disappointed. When I lived in San Diego, I had fond memories of this place. Even a few years ago when I came here, it was still pretty good. To be blunt, the food just wasn't that great. The half pound steer Burger was rather flavorless. I used to be able to order it medium rare, but now everything is well done. Ugh. The chili fries were still decent, but nowhere near as good as they used to be. The staff was great, though. I have no complaints about their performance. I still also love the condiment tray. Maybe it was just an off day, maybe the meat they ordered wasn't up to the normal quality. It makes me sad, but nostalgia just was not enough to save what was essentially a flavorless meal. read more

The raspberry iced tea was more like ordering 3/4 a cup of ice and awful. Also can you believe it's $3.00 for the swill? It was not sweet. It was not flavorful, unless you consider swill, a flavor. The sweet potato fries were a bag of sog. With no brown sugar? What kind of sweet potato fries do not have brown sugar? I paid 6 dollars for a bag of mush un"sweet potatoes"? Not where I'm from is that okay. Back home, our tea and sweet potatos were as sweet as our grandmothers were to us on Christmas eve. Finally, the "Bleu cheese Burger" was beyond disappointing. The burger patty itself would be the closest thing to trying to eat a wet sponge, only worse because it was colder. Also, very grey. Completely a frozen patty that they resell for inflated profits. When I was child, I loved coming to Weevil Burger. Of course it was a Boll Weevil Then. But the passed two times I have taken my husband there have been absolutely atrocious. I had bragged and bragged about this place to my husband. I was so disappointed. Both times we went it was quiet not very many customers. But somehow they had like twenty people working for all of five tables. The service positively sucked. All the Employees had super poor attitudes and acted like they couldn't give two hoots for your business. They only time they seemed to be happy was when they handed you your check. "Please leave a good tip and get out." Was the impression we got. My husband and I both ordered hamburgers and he wanted a leaf of lettuce. If you have been, you know that lettuce doesn't come on the condiment tray, so he tried to flag down a waitress. I strongly emphasize TRY. They would make eye contact and quickly look away and dash off to the back. When one finally came over we were told it would be twenty-five cents. Twenty-five cents! For one little leaf of lettuce! The tip counter my husband and I have was at below zero by this point in time. The waitress needed to be tipping us for putting up with their poor attitudes. The food was decent but definitely not worth the money. My husband did bring a good point about the condiment trays. Do they just refill the the condiments after each customer or do they actually replace them. We wondered if this was a health risk and it actually made me sick to my stomach. I had always loved the idea of dressing your own burgers but the thought of people putting dirty fingers in to remove the pickles, peppers, or onions. Now, I was putting the same things on my burger. Eww! I love putting pickles on my burger and I was sad that the pickles were really warm......didn't they used to refrigerate the trays? The pickles in the tub were as warm as my burger. Another yuck. French fries were piping hot! Yummy! I have never known anyone to mess up on french fries though. Overall, this place was terrible and my husband and I will most definitely not be returning to this specific establishment. We DO NOT recommend this awful place for anyone. read more

This was the first and last time to this place. I have not had service this slow in any restaurant. I ordered the teriyaki chicken sandwich with onion rings. The famous condiment tray which looks like everyone is putting their dirty hands in. Came about 40 minutes before our chicken burgers. When my food finally arieved the onion rings were burnt, and the teriyaki sauce was like water. Running everywhere in the basket. The result turned out that the bottom bun was completely wet. Wet and soggy bread for a sandwich is just gross. My wife's side salad came about 45 mins before the chicken sandwich. Her salad was limp. Her southwest sandwich was ok, but a bit of a stretch to call it southwest. read more

"Warm toasted bun" was cold and not particularly fresh. Burger dry, fries warm at best, soggy. Onion rings good, hot and fresh. Fish and shrimp good, but again sad fries. #RyanStrong tried to hold a fundraising event here and this place double booked. They turned away customers that were there for the fundraiser 30 minutes after it started. Another local restaurant offered to allow the fundraiser to be moved to their location and honored everyone's flier. I will NEVER...EVER...eat at Weevil Burger again. First the good news: They've added 2 crafts to there tap lineup, hallelujah!!! Stone IPA and sculpin at the best prices you'll find bar none. The food is always consistent when you want a good cheat meal, but I noticed last night they also have a great lineup of salads that I need to try next go around. As we were waiting to pay my special needs son got sick, the girl rushed over and told him "you need to go outside!" Then another girl came over handed me a rag, plastic bag, and a roll of paper towels and told me I had to clean it up. I asked her if she was serious, my son was outside throwing up and I couldn't believe anyone could be so heartless as to treat a child like that in the first place. She claimed it was not safe for them to handle "hazardous waste" and that they always make their customers clean it up as such. Well, if you work in the food industry you're trained on that when you get your food handlers permit, so I guess they're just lazy AND rude at Weevil Burgers. We used to come here a lot, but never again. And I'll be sure to tell everyone how they treated us. When you're rude to a special needs child, it just shows that you lack any empathy or class. read more

Being a chils of the 70's, I grew up with Boll Weevil restaurants. I was like 5 when I had my first Steerburger at the Boll Weevil on Plaza Drive in National City. I was heartbroken when the chain went under, but was happy to hear that Weevil Burger (a former franchise) kept the same look, menu and mascot as the original Boll Weevil. The food is just as good as I remember it at Weevil Burger, with the condiment trays and the ubiquitous tortoise shell menu hanging on the wall from the old Boll Weevil days. If you were a fan of Boll Weevil, you'll love Weevil Burger. read more

This is my third review of Weevil Burger and my family and I continue to enjoy Weevil Burger going there at least once a week (usually Fridays). The service is good, food is what I expect; Tasty, Hot, Plenty of it, all for a reasonable price. Drinks are never ending and if you watch the paper they place coupons in the reader for $.99 cent beers and Two for One meal deals.. You can get a weekly Burger special for $4.99 that includes fries, burger and of course the famous condiment tray. Drinks are around $2.00 dollars. They have what you'd expect from a former Boll Weevil, an arcade, pool tables, juke box, large screen TVs for sporting events. We've taken 25 or more friends there and all the food came out great, hot and on time. For those who'd just like to have a quick bite and sit at "the bar" they have about 6 seats to accommodate you while the waitresses do their thing, it a real homey atmosphere. YES!! On Friday nights the parking sucks! I agree with another Yelp-er I have no idea where all the people go for all those cars. None the less after a little work I always find a place to park but that just makes the friendliness of the Staff, food and cold beer that much better. Remember, if you go there and anything goes wrong, ask for John or Matty who are the Managers and they will fix the problem. This is why I continue to recommend Weevil Burger to everyone! read more

First timers... didn't expect anything special, just happen to see it in passing. Relaxed family place with lots of space and a "home" feel. There's a few arcade games and pool tables for the kids which is nice. Ordered burgers fries and cheesesteak. It had to be some of the best food we've had in a while without the price. Weevil Burger was the location of choice for a vintage motorcycle meet up night. The large smokers patio did the smoker's well and had enough room for everyone to comfortable meet up fellow hobbyists. Our waitress was very kind and did a hell of a job trying to keep everyones order and tab straight throughout the evening. Went to eat lunch yesterday with some friends. The server was very short with us all and seemed like she'd rather be somewhere else. Ordered chicken nuggets for my daughter and one of them was still raw on the inside. When I told the waitress....all she said was "ok??" And looked at me like was there anything else I had to say. I expected maybe an apology for the raw chicken nugget my daughter almost ate, or an offer to comp the order of nuggets. But no. The food is good, that's why I have kept going back. I went here for the first time last night. I did a take out order. The atmosphere was OK. The baseball game was on and there were lots of people there for Happy Hour. I was greeted promptly placed my order and food was quick. The burgers were moderatly priced.. avg. $9. I got the Mon-Thurs. special 1/2lb. Steerburger w/ Fries for $4.99 a good deal. I got a milkshake for $3.99 NOT A DEAL.. The fries were OK definitely tasted that peanut oil. I don't like how you have to add your own toppings.. do it for me, that's why I'm eating out! Overall, great price for the food.. and the burger tasted great. Don't order a shake.. too expensive and no better than McDonalds shakes.. It was worth $2.49 at most. The food is OK. The service is TERRIBLE!! The two times I have been inside the restaurant they were way understaffed and forget about you. The manager was taking orders AND the cook. When we ordered to go, we called in our order for 4 people and received the entire order in a single paper lunch bag. By the time we got home, our burgers were a pile of mush, our salad lacked dressing and the napkins were a soggy mess. When I called to tell the manager about it, he lacked any kind of empathy and told me I could pick up a new order in a half hour if I wanted. Waste my time going back and forth again? Cust service is the reason for two stars, been coming here every week on Friday for 3 or 4 months and the 2 times the servers both females are just rude and uncomfortable. Like others have said, you walk in an get stared at from the bar where all the servers and some patrons all look at you...then one says just seat yourself, then they just go back to talking. About 5 minutes later you will get a menu and maybe a drink. Food is good and Friday deals are great, but the rude servers drove me and my family away. I really loved how sophisticated this place was! Normally, when I come to a burger place I expect an average experience and a halfway decent burger, but this place really delivered! The atmosphere was perfect and the staff was so happy! I loved being there so much that I didn't even mind that my family had for our food. Perfection takes time! This is a step up from McD's and the rest of the fast food places. Don't expect too much and you might be suprised. You want to go M-Th after 4pm for the specials. 2 meals and a pitcher of beer $20. Depending on who is waiting on tables is going to be key to your opinion of this place because the food is decent and hot. Absolutely adore this place! Definitely no-frills, casual dining spot and a small arcade for those with kids (or kids at heart!). Food was good; we ordered the Big Daddy and the Chili Size, which both tasted good. The chili was flavorful and not too salty like it tends to be at other places. There was also large party when we went, however the waitresses were still attentive to my party of two and ensured our drinks never went dry. My only criticism of the place was the condiments tray, particularly the little plastic container trays they used; it was a little gross to think about having to reach into some cheap plastic container just for some onions or some banana peppers. My suggestion would be to maybe serve them with tongs for each container or even serve small dishes with the toppings. But make no mistake, I love the concept of being able to add whatever the hell I wanted to my burger especially for a picky eater like me! Will certainly come again. read more

Went to Weevil Burgers this afternoon to try them out. Took a couple of minutes of standing inside the door before anyone paid any attention to us. When they finally did they said something we could not hear it because the music was to loud. I told them I could not hear them they repeated and still I could not hear over the loud music. So I told them their place was to loud to enjoy a meal and left. We always get coupons in the mail for the weevil burger, so I finally decided to try it out. From the looks of their menu everything is very cheap, and the coupon makes the deal even better. (Buy one entree and 2 drinks get the other entree free) The decor inside is plain red and wood paneling takes over the entire room, it was a little overwhelming to look at. (Not reflective of their food) I ordered a side salad to start, and a cheeseburger with lettuce & tomato cooked medium rare. They did cook the burger correctly. The meat itself was okay, nothing to write home about. My salad looked lifeless; the lettuce was almost transparent. I was concerned about their "famous condiment tray" because it looked like they reuse the same containers. I specifically asked an the waitress had said they keep an eye on them to see if people are eating from them. (If so they replace them with new ones for the next customer) There was only a few waitresses working, and by the time we were done around 1900, the place was packed. This led to horrible service and a long wait to get our check. Overall I may try again and order something else just to give it another shot. read more
