Absolutely beautiful day [Friday morning], today and my Wife and I decided a quick drive to Cocolalla and have a bite to eat; which meant "The View Cafe". Ever since, moving here to 'The Panhandle', we've enjoyed stopping by, for what's always, an excellent meal - And this time they didn't fail [breakfast, today]. The food is always fresh - nicely prepared - generous proportions [either breakfast or lunch] - tasty... Simply, put GOOD fare. The Staff is always pleasant - nice - accommodating - AND attentive. Today's fare [for me] over easy eggs, 'lil pigs, country-fries, and sourdough [dark]. My Wife's choice traditional eggs-benedict, with country-fries - And as always excellent. All topped off with ice water and good coffee. One thing we noticed [from our last visit], is they've added afew more tables, increasing their seating capacity. The Restaurant and bathrooms is always neat - clean - ordered... In times coming here, either with friends [in from outta-towne], or Family, we've never been disappointed with "The View". UNDERSTANDING, is we've learned, on Sunday's it will nearly always, always be busy [as with so many places, here in No. Idaho], and also during the 'tourist-season', it can get abit hectic here, too. Abhorrent and rude service. Worst I've experienced in a long time. Here's why (and sounds like this is pretty common and consistent of late): - Gave our table away even though we called ahead and were assured that there would be room for our party - Manager unapologetically told us to "just wait outside" even though it was very cold and we have young children in our party - As they were getting our table together, manager loudly explained to a departing guest "sorry, but THEY refuse to move" referencing the fact that we were waiting in the foyer (and we had clearly moved to the side to make sure they could get out. - When we explained to the manager that what she was was very rude she was unapologetic and indignant, saying "well you're being a fire hazard" We decided to leave without eating. Worst service. Stay away unless you'd like to be treated as if they're doing you a favor for serving you. read more

Amazing breakfast. I got the American breakfast, and all of it was superb. The workers were very friendly however it did take a while to put my order in. I sat next to the window and had a beautiful view of the lake. It did however get a bit busy and loud. read more

Incredibly underwhelmed! Always seeing the amazing reviews and social media posts I had to try it ! Cool spot of the busy highway! For being called "the view" you only get a peek a boo sight from the cafe... can see little bits of lake from acrossed the highway behind a bunch of trees. Moved spots in the restraint to get a better glimpse of the lake. Being a first timer I always like to ask the server to suggest a few of the local favorites. She recommended the omelets, "they are the best omelets I've ever had". She also recommended the biscuits and gravy and special of the day. It was the day after st Patrick's day so I'm sure you can guess what it was. Corn beef Omelet- "ok" Loads of undercooked unseasoned veggies in between some eggs. Definitely not the best omelet. Wouldn't recommend Corn beef - a few small chunks of corn beef on top a pile of undercooked and zero seasoned onions and bell peppers. For twenty something dollars I could t have been more disappointed. I don't know who came up with that special , but visit didn't give it a test run before serving it. The hash browns were good. Ordered the kid a pancake with bacon -$10 Probably the better part of all the orders. Pancake was flavorful and fresh bacon was nice The biscuit was my side for the special and ordered gravy to top it. Biscuit was extremely large and the gravy was decent. The biscuit was a cross between a biscuit and a roll. Very dense and moist. The biscuit and gravy along with the pancake were the highlight of the meal. The kid got orange juice and we drank water. Paid $70 (including tip) Server was kind , did a decent job. The atmosphere isn't anything special. But was clean and neat. I was planning to order a few slices of the amazing looking pies to go but was so dissapointed with breakfast I didn't dare experiment with dessert. Location and atmosphere - "eh" Service and cleanliness - "great" Food - "fail" I think the reviews are on the high side because here isn't much else around and the nostalgia. First time here .I actually drove by it and turned around to try it because it's by itself next to hwy..place was so friendly and clean. Waitress was so helpful and recommended the brisket Benedict..it was so good. And I had to really had to try this Pina colada cheese cake..I am so glad I did!..I highly recommend this place the food the people were great. read more

I've eaten here for years and have to say the new owners remodel turned out very nice. I hope they can install noise suppression panels in the ceiling at some point as we really had to talk loudly to hear one another. The food is always flavorful and portions are generous. Service is outstanding and special shout out to Tanja/Tonya, she went above and beyond. We wanted to check out the actual view since they were able to cut the trees blocking the view. We have gone here many, many times over the past few years. We always recommend it to friends and family visiting, telling them it was a hidden gem. That all changed today and we will NOT be back. The "boss lady" (as the staff refers to her) was super rude to us and our friends. She was unclear and unkind more than once, passive aggressively talking about us to other customers as we waited a long time for a table. She acted like we were a pain and not valued repeat customers at all. We were told a table was "almost ready" 3 different times and we watched as they made no effort to seat people in a way that would accommodate our large party. Heads up: the wait times can be ridiculous on weekends. The food is decent, but the unapologetic attitude of the "boss lady" isn't worth the hassle. Poor customer service & lack of organization leave me no choice but to leave a negative review and not return. It's really not okay to treat customers that poorly, misrepresent them to other customers, and not apologize. read more

We love The View! Fantastic brisket, really great soups, sandwiches and large portions. We come two or three times a month and always enjoy the friendly service and the dessert fridge is so fun. The owners pull out all the stops in the summer time with the gorgeous flowers and plants out front. Since they were able to get the trees cut out front the view of Lake Cocolalla is restored. read more

We've been made to feel unwelcome on more than one occasion. The last time we took our veteran sil's family from out of town and 'tried' to eat outdoors on one of the many tables, we were told by the owner that there is no eating outside! She has been rude to us before, not quite sure why? We've eaten here only a handful of times even though we are a couple of miles away. We've never done anything rude, or been loud or obnoxious. This is a decent diner, clean and cute. Food is really overpriced diner food, but I can't even complain about that anywhere anymore The problem I had was the service. Although it was okay, and the place was packed, they can't deal with a packed place, even though it's packed every weekend because there is nothing else around that area... They were close to being rude, if not completely rude. One woman with meth mouth had the most attitude. I get it, you're busy, but management needs to deal with it. We had to ask multiple times to get our order taken. I'll keep driving to Sandpoint next time. if they aren't too busy I might stop, but I won't go if they have more than a couple cars on the road. read more

Two visits in three days! We stopped en route to Montana, and again on the way home. The View has amazingly good breakfast food. The portions are generous and the staff is so friendly and attentive. We had corned beef hash, bacon and eggs, chicken fried steak, mushroom swiss omelet, and Denver omelet (well, there were four of us). Hash browns or home fries - both delish. Biscuits are the size of a Volkswagen (well, almost)! I've been to the View quite a few times over the years, and this owner / management has it dialed in. Decor is very nice and the restaurant is spotlessly clean. It's definitely worth stopping in, but be hungry when you come! read more

Traveling through Cocolalla, ID and decided to stop for breakfast. The reviews were good, so we decided to stop at The View. Inside, it looks recently renovated. Very clean and modern decor. 1/2 order of Biscuits and gravy covered an entire plate. Yummy. I tried the Cocolalla Popper Burger. What a wonderful combination of ingredients. A scrumptious burger sourced from a local butcher shop, huckleberries, jalapeño peppers, grilled onions and a dollop of cream cheese. Made for a southern border (jalapeño) meeting of flavorful delight with locally sourced Northern Idaho (huckleberries). Will return for a replay of this delightful lunch. read more

The restaurant was not super busy. There was one table of 8 in our area. We waited 45 minutes for our food. Not once did our waitress come give us an update or even offer to bring the biscuit we ordered. Yet for the table of 8 she stopped at least 10 times and chatted with them etc. when the food finally came no biscuit had to ask for that again. We drove 35 minutes to go there to eat in the pouring rain, used our hard earned money to pick your cafe and this is what we get. Would that kind of service be acceptable to you ? I understand wait times but she did not do one thing to try to make the wait better. All the service went to the table of 8. We did not leave a tip due to that. First time visit. Good, friendly service. Burgers were cooked "medium" that we all called medium rare. Fries were soft, but very tasty. Beware of the service charge for using both credit and debit cards. Ambiance was just like any other cafe. It's a one and done experience for this reviewer. read more

So impressed yesterday, went back again today to try some more items. They did not disappoint excellent onion rings, sweet potato fries and prine rib dip on chibatta bread with aus jus. We had heard that The View was definitely worth checking out. We recently had the opportunity and were left disappointed. The service was fine, everyone was friendly and attentive. Overall the food is really overpriced. The disappointment was, first, they didn't have Chicken Fried Steak, and offer alternatives. My wife and I both opted for home fries, unfortunately the potatoes were raw in the middle! The sirloin steak and eggs were spot on, and my wife's smoked brisket egg's benedict were quite tasty. Ridiculously overpriced! Two of us went there for breakfast this morning and had breakfast burritos and 1 cup of coffee and the bill was $50 and change. That was not including a tip which we did not leave. There is no reason for two burritos to cost that much! We brought it up to the waitress thinking there was a mistake and she said well that is the price, you got the special. Then maybe when you are recommending the special you should say that it is a $25 burrito. So frustrated, will not go back! Too bad too because it is literally two miles from our house. Drove up this Friday for the following reasons: 1) to see if it was open (30 minute drive from my location) 2) if open, to check it out . It was open and a few diners inside. Sat near window & since near lunchtime tried special. Fish 'n Chips with homemade chowder. Fish was hand battered Cod, fries fresh cut, chowder homemade that morning (talked to cook). Chowder was not thick like many other places with lots and lots of potato's. More than a cup but not as big as most bowls. Very, very tasty (told cook so). All in all, very pleasing. Was able to finish w/o leftovers (almost) Left a few fries on plate. Special was under $10 and service was very attentive w/o being pushy. Did not have to ask for water refill once. read more

We had breakfast this weekend at The View in Cocolalla, ID. We had a short wait because it was very busy. They have dealing with rushes down to a science. I'm impressed. The food was excellent. Probably the best bacon & eggs that I've ever had. Their biscuits are big enough for two (or 3) to share. My son had the chicken fried steak which did not disappoint. Delicious & also big enough to share. I can see why they are so popular. Service was on point, as well. Our waitress was friendly & so efficient. We wanted for nothing & the restaurant & exterior were very clean & well kept. Kudos to the staff & the manager. A great experience. We'll be back! read more

Nice little gem across hwy 95 from Cocolalla Lake which I am guessing is the "view ". Varied menu of traditional diner favorites. The one thing missing IMHO is corned beef hash. I was thrilled to see it on the specials board. It was perfect! Generous chunks of corned beef with bell peppers and onions on a bed of crisp hash browns. The over medium eggs were also done as I love them, complete with the lacy, crisp edges. With the local elections coming up next Tuesday, I would like to spend all my votes on adding the CBH to the menu. Maybe at least as a weekly special?? All food is well prepared and served promptly. TERRIBLE WAITRESSES.!!Worst waitress ever. She has crappy water color tattoos on her right arm. She didn't check up on us once. We actually kinda assumed that she didn't want our group there she was glaring even though we showed up a hour before close. She was horribly rude and rolled her eyes when a member of our party turned away the gravy that they were given as a side because it was cold and disgusting. I was only going to leave a two dollar tip because of how bad the service was I myself was a waiter for years and I could do so much better with the customer service. Locals love The View! It's our favorite breakfast place. They have *the best pancakes* - so light and fluffy! They use Woods Meats for their breakfast sausage. We mostly come for breakfast which is served all day. Even at lunch, we don't even look at the rest of the menu because we love their breakfast so much. I'm sure the rest is scrumptious, too. Wonderful cafe. All the food was delicious. I got the eggs Benedict but substituted a biscuit instead of English muffin. The biscuit was big and fluffy.
