Today, prime holiday shipping time, the employee shows up to open 10 minutes late with people standing at the door.
Once the door opens, she ignores those that enter and ever so slowly- without speaking a word- starts setting up the lobby and looking at packages that were left for shipping, and tidying up. Meanwhile, I am standing at the register waiting to ship packages.
Oh! but then the phone rings! Again, without a single word and ever so slowly, she walks from the lobby and passes me standing at the counter, rounds the counter and heads to the phone. I asked her' Excuse me, are you working?' And she looks at me dead panned and and speaks so condescendingly 'Yes, I am'. I said, 'wait a minute, are you going to help someone on the phone instead of someone waiting in the store and standing in front of you?' and she, again, looks at me and says 'Yes' and picks up the phone, answering the phone customer's questions and walks away from the desk. All the while, I am saying 'Hello. Excuse me. Is there anyone here?'
This woman was so rude and untrained in simple courtesies that it was not worth waiting for this place to open late or on time. I would recommend that you save yourself the trouble and go to the any other places that you can ship from and take a chance that they are better than this poorly trained dullard was.
Later this same day after asking a manager or owner to call me back:
Sean (Shawn or Shaun?) who identified himself as a regional manager called to say that he reviewed the video footage and the store did open late but it is their policy to answer the phone first before even greeting or helping a customer waiting at the register. He offered no apology at all- only reasons why this employee did what she did. We all know what rolls down hill. I cannot blame her. Sean's response leads me to believe that UPS trains their employees that customers that are there-in the store- are not as important and their time is not as valuable because someone in the actual store has already proven that they are committed to UPS by wasting time while waiting for a slow employee to get to work on time and open the door to help customers. Listen, there are plenty of other choices for shipping and I will be making those choices permanent for my self and our businesses on the north shore. I suggest every reader of this post do the same. I will certainly be sharing this amongst by business neighbors and friends. Inordinately inconsiderate for a service business with incredible competition. read more
