I work at a nearby college and need to ship high-security items on a regular basis, both with pre-paid labels and by purchasing them with a corporate card --- no experience with other services like printing, packing, faxing, etc. I have to say my experience has been fairly positive and largely problem-free. The items we ship often require a great deal of shipping speed and a high level of insurance. We've had no issues with either. It's true this business doesn't strike me as a wildly happy place to work. Jim, the owner, can be blunt with both customers and staff, although he's never been rude to or around me personally. (Besides, knowing Broadway and Capitol Hill, I sort of sympathize with what they must put up with.) The staff seem kind of cowed, but they do their best to get the job done. There is a lot of turnover, but there have been a few who stuck around for awhile that I was sorry to see leave. During peak times (Christmas, the end of the college year in June, etc) things can get pretty crazy and they look stressed out. . . but it's probably the same at the post office. It could be that, as a regular customer who is known to the staff --- including the owner --- my experience is different from random one-time customers, but I've been pretty happy with it so far. read more

Jim Brown saved Christmas! My husband and I just returned from an incredible customer service experience at the Broadway UPS store. I've never written a review for shipping - but Jim went above and beyond. If you are lucky enough to have him help you, be grateful for his knowledge, enjoy his dry sense of humor, and basically do whatever the guy tells you to do. We brought in seven packages, including a full set of very fancy dishes we had received for our wedding and needed to return, sending across the country. Jim assessed the situation and quickly let us know that they had a snowball's chance in hell of arriving intact, and why - despite our best intentions. He proceeded to give us his undivided attention and personally re-packed the entire set, insured them, and had us on our way. It was expensive, but totally worth it for the peace of mind. One of my Christmas gifts to my husband was to get the boxes out of our house before the new year, and I'm so grateful for the help and guidance Jim delivered. Thank you JIM!!!! read more

I live on Kitsap Peninsula and have had a UPS mailbox at this store for over two and a half years. In response to a recent post that was negative toward Mr. Jim Brown, I will say that he has gone above and beyond his call of duty more than once. He took a painting to my son in Tukwila that was too large to mail. He could have crated it at $250+, and taken my money. Instead, he offered to drop it off himself and charged me only $100! He may not be a morning person, but he warms up nicely as the day goes on. I have never, ever had a problem with package deliveries. Ever. I often ask them to send my mail by UPS to Kitsap when I can't get into Seattle, and the UPS guys on the Kitsap side are courteous, and efficient. I love UPS! I ended up staying for close to 10 minutes because the UPS representative didn't understand the concept of helping the person who was next in line. Complete lack of common sense and rude. read more

I went into the UPS store looking to buy packing supplies for shipping chocolate. When I asked the man behind the counter (which, from reading the other reviews, I am going to assume was Jim) about what kind of insulated packing materials he had he *rolled his eyes* and told me that "Chocolate really doesn't melt how people think it does." Excuse me? I'm sorry, but I know exactly what temperature chocolate softens at, melts at, and I also know the weather forecast for the day I expect my package to arrive at its location and if I had shipped it the way he suggested my expensive chocolate would have been a half melted mess upon arrival. Normally I would chalk this up to some mansplaining, but I get the impression that is how this guy treats all his customers - like they are stupid. read more

I have always shipped art to shows using UPS and the UPS store. This sort of arrangement requires a prepaid return label so that I can get my art back. I have never had an issue until today. This location was first very sassy that my package still had one end open when I walked in the door (because I needed the address off the packing slip) and then turned me away altogether when I asked for the prepaid return label. They said that once those are issued, they have to ship whatever weight and size package the slip is put on for the prepaid amount and they lose money, which is (1) clearly untrue and (2) skirts the line of accusing me of fraud. And, for the love of all things holy, "CREATE A RETURN" is an actual option on UPS.com. I could have printed the thing at home, but I went to their location for assistance and they refused. Some fool just didn't want to do his job and I won't be back. UPDATE 12/12/16: I feel the need to update this review after ANOTHER horrible interaction at this location. I was pressed for time, so I didn't drive across the Montlake Bridge to the UVillage location and instead went back to this one. The clerk who was helping me was nice, but when I mentioned the one box contained something fragile and I wasn't sure if it should be marked, the same arsehole as last time yelled from across the store that marking something as fragile was UPS code that the item wasn't packed very well and to throw it around to try to break it. After I mentioned that that would be an insurance claim, he proceeded to berate me as if I was stupid, insinuating that UPS would only honor an insurance claim if they had packed the item in store. If this was his attempt to upsell me, it was horrific. I know UPS Stores are franchised, but someone would do well to address this situation because at this point, I will not be back to this location. This is the inferior of the two UPS Stores on Broadway. The staff here are snobbish and downright rude--I saw them ridicule a customer who needed help with the copy machine. They also did a thoroughly shoddy job of looking for the package I had on hold there--the lady was prompt to say that it wasn't there and that there was no package for me at the store, but I found my package at once after asking if I could have a look myself. I'll definitely send my packages to be held at the other UPS Store in the future. read more

I'm a retired retail executive and have stopped in here for years to run small copy jobs for a church-based fraternal organization. I've alway been happy with this location and gotten excellent service. Until yesterday. Now apparently they've implemented a minimum $1.00 charge and I spent that for 2 copies. When I questioned the charge I was told rather condescendingly by a corporate minion that UPS doesn't want onesy-twosey jobs anymore, preferring copy runs of 1000 and I could go to the drugstore next door which could "better serve my needs." There are some times when you just need to mail a package. Thus, UPS. The older guy that works here has a really bad personality. I actually kind of like him because his monotone grumpiness and seriously irritable, even rude, attitude is so constant and out of place that it's kind of a crack-up. I feel bad for the nice younger guys who work with him, that must truly be a drag. On the other hand, I think he knows his biz (he gave me good advice abt not mailing my tv), but it's just like... Why are you so foul-tempered? Maybe the clientele sucks, but I wouldn't have thought that would be so... The employees here are almost universally friendly and eager to help, and they remember my name and my mailbox number when I have packages. The store manager (owner?) can be an overbearing, micromanaging jerk, though. I've heard him chew out customers several times (and been the target of it once myself). Brought in rented textbooks to be returned bc UPS is a drop off location for them, the man that assisted me acted like it was a TERRIBLE inconvenience for him that I had not already taped the mailing label to the box and put the packing slip inside although I had no idea that was their policy for drop offs. I have had a maiing box here for several years. JIm and staff have always treated me with the best service I could ask for, always cheerfully retrieving the mounds of packages I receive there. I moved from the neghborhood two years ago but decided to keep a mail box there as I appreciate their service and easy parking! Too many times have I had the manager/owner Jim walk up as one of his employee was helping me and insist on charging me additional money. They weighed it, measured it, taped it up & less than 5 minutes later I was outta there. I think I had the worst experience you can have at a UPS store at this location. I highly recommend people find another location to use. Firstly, I got some important legal documents sent by the highest cost international mail. I provided my address via my license, and the delivery address was typed on a piece of paper that I handed the shop assistant. They misspelled both of the addressed names even though it was right in front of them. Silly me for not babysitting them, but silly them for being so incompetent. Secondly, the package was GUARANTEED to be delivered by a certain time, and sure enough, it was not delivered by that time. Is it UPS fault, is it this stores fault? I don't know but they have really disappointed me after I paid $75 to deliver one envelope. Thirdly, I asked them to scan me a copy of the documents I was sending. They happily charged me $6 for the pleasure but then gave me someone elses documents. And to make it worse, they gave me the scan for some guy trying to enroll in the FBI. Who knows who they gave my documents to? After calling and having to yell at them to do anything about it, they finally sent me my scan that I paid for, promised it would be within an hour, but NO, their incompetence goes even further when they didn't write my email address down properly, and didn't even bother to call me (they had my number) to see if it went through. So yet again I had to call and deal with the RUDE manager. In short. NEVER GO TO THIS UPS EVER! They are not reliable based on my experience. VERY DISAPPOINTING. Thanks for reading. read more

Bad energy and service. The man with the "owner/operator" name badge had a very poor attitude and was just generally foul spirited which put a negative tone that was palpable when you walked though the door. He complained about other customers to me, had me pack and tape my own box and I paid $83.00 for the privilege. Clearly UPS has a great reputation, the store was clean etc but the service and more importantly mood was the wort I've seen in a retail store. read more

I have used this location numerous times as it's close to work for me. I have dropped off packages as well as rerouted packages to be picked up from here. I haven't had any issues yet with service. All the employees have been nice. There's free convenient parking at Harvard Market. Too bad there are so many bad reviews here. I thought I'd put in a good word to balance out the bad. I guess it's just luck of the draw or if one of the employees is having a bad day and takes it out on the customers. I will update this if anything changes. In general, the folks at UPS are way nicer than USPS, so I'm always relieved when the company allows UPS for returns instead of USPS. read more

Verily I say unto thee "No." I called for a quote and the person on the phone was not only tremendously rude, when I told him the quote was nearly double what another UPS Store quoted me, he replied, "You're free to go somewhere else." Also great nailing address that keeps the home box empty (vs. stuffed after two days then USPS returning all mail to sender!-true story). I had a very happy experience at this UPS Store yesterday. After a long day of problems and hassles, I came into the store to return some cable TV equipment to Comcast. I was helped by a man named Jim, who manages the store. Although I had the wrong packaging and no shipping label, Jim happily re-packaged the equipment and arranged for shipping at no charge (apparently they have an arrangement with Comcast). While Jim was working on this, I noticed that he was using a mouse pad that resembled a miniature Persian rug. "That's a nice mouse pad," I said, "I ought to get one like that." Jim smiled, and when he was finished processing my package, he handed me the mouse pad as a gift, which blew me away. I have the mouse pad on my desk right now. Whenever I use it, I'll think of Jim's calm, positive manner, and how he made a bad day better. read more

I was treated extremely poorly, my questions were cut off, the representative snapped at me for no reason.
