Dropped off an Amazon return and asked for a receipt. The guy said they don't issue receipts and asked me to take a picture of the label on my box for tracking purposes. I asked him if he scanned my box. He said they scan all drop offs at once when they have several! So I left the store with no proof for my drop off. From now on I will give 1 star to any UPS store that doesn't give receipts. read more

For $5, you can have these guys hold your package for as long as you need while you do REAL things instead of wait around your apartment for UPS/FedEx to show up. Kudos. Haha. Hold your package. I get it. These guys were really nice and helpful my first time coming in here, back in an era when I wasn't used to getting so many packages. Maybe I'm spoiled by my SF ups store, but these guys just seemed *way* behind the times. Couldn't give me an immediate tracking number when I was shipping nearly $500 worth of merchandise. Said I had to call later or something? Not ok! And when I decided to leave without actually shipping my items because of this, one of the teenage clerks rolled his eyes at his coworker and said, right in front of me, "Gotta love Berkeley" - and I looked at him and said, "My point, exactly." read more

OMG Where should I start??? The people working there were friendly and nice. But the store itself and its policies were bogus. I needed to send a small package out of state - and send it 2 or 3 day. I show up at noon Monday and find out that they do not have the standard UPS shipping supplies ie a shipping box, I had to buy a box from them, then I had to fill out 2 forms. I went here cause it seemed cheaper than Fed Ex. In the long run the Fed Ex place across the street is cheaper - they provide boxes and you only have 1 form to fill out. Today I find out not only will the package not arrive until Friday (hello 5 days? I paid for 3 day delivery) that it has not even left the bay area yet! These guys (and gals? I don't think I've ever seen one) are great. They know who I am, they're friendly, they joke, they're polite, they're competent, and, well, fantastic. I don't know who the manager is, but that person is running a really great show -- I could make a long list of business in Berkeley (starting with the Kinko's FedEx across the street *cough* lazy jerks *cough*) that should come here to take notes in how to do customer service. Don't get me wrong, I'm not confusing this store with UPS in general, but I'll be bummed when I leave Berkeley this spring and have to start going to "ordinary" shipping places. I'm really annoyed that they don't provide tape or envelopes. They make you buy them. The envelopes I could understand but making me buy a whole role of tape? FedEx is across the street and they don't charge. read more

Employee refused to give me a receipt for a return item and proceeded to fake scan it in just for show . Checked amazon , never got scanned in , and will have to wait till the week starts in hopes it will get scanned in by a more competent less passive aggressive employee. read more

I will purposely go out of my way to another UPS location from now on just to avoid this store. I was told upon arriving, that I could not use their packaging tape to close up my packages with UPS labels on them. Since they do not get reimbursed for the tape they use, and that they are already doing me a favor my letting me drop off packages there. I proceeded to buy a $10 roll of tape, and afterwards was told I can hold on to that to use for next time. I've been using UPS for years without any issues. Unfortunately this store is a UPS Franchise which means it's privately owned and UPS has no control over the level of service. The customer service at this store is some of the worst customer service I've ever seen. They are rude, and they try to scam money out of you any way they can. Spend a couple minutes and take a look at some of the other comments. I've experienced multiple issues others have mentioned, and I found very easy solution! Just walk next door to Staples. It turns out that Staples and UPS have a partnership which means Staples has a full UPS shipping area inside their store. You can drop UPS packages off, and they'll even tape it shut without charging you, If you do need anything there's no $10 minimum for credit cards. Need to mail something via UPS? Well you can do that at Staples also, and they won't try to over charge you. read more

The employees at this location are always so nice and helpful. It's always quick and reliable. A lot of the time, it seems like errands can be something to worry about; you might find yourself thinking "ugh, I don't wanna have to deal with THAT!" I usually come here to drop off prepaid packages, and I have never had a problem. The manager (I think he's the manager) - the guy usually opens the place -- is so so unfriendly, almost surly except that he does not say enough to call him surly. So I don't like that part and that is why I give the store three stars. Be friendly to the customers! read more

This UPS store charged me $3 per $100 for insurance coverage above the $100 value and they said since they did not box it themselves they would only cover it if my package is lost, not damaged. That's ridiculous!!!! UPS only charges $.90 per hundred. Fed Ex charged me $.93 per hundred and after opening and inspecting my packages they covered me for damage during shipping. Fed Ex also did not make me write down every item in the box as this UPS Store did, so I gave Fed Ex 5 packages and insurance business totaling almost $350 yesterday They were great, the opposite of this store. Don't assume Fed ExGround costs more than UPS. I knew they charge $3 to download and print a label so I went to Copyworld on University for that first. read more

Ditto on the stuff others have said about solid, friendly, super helpful service. I think it is hilarious that folks would rather stand in line at FedexKinkos behind someone with a massive copy job or whatever. To each, their own. I don't like lines, myself. The UPS guys are great. Call ahead if you aren't sure if they are open. . . um, yeah. Plan a little bit. Oh my god. This UPS is sooo much better than the one on telegraph that it warrants a review, and I'm pretty lazy about reviews. Kiyoshi was super fast, professional and well informed. Didn't try to sell me anything additional, moved quickly and efficiently. Prices are probably the same across the board, UPS isn't cheap, so there's that. The employees of this UPS store are professional, courteous and accommodating. One employee in particular, John, deserves special mention. He went out of his way to help me and suggested an excellent solution to a shipping problem I had, even inconveniencing himself to assist me. That is the mark of true customer service. I have been a client of this UPS Store for over 15 years. It was a MailBox, Etc. before they got acquired. Being a small business owner, I know and appreciate good customer service. The management of this store has it in abundance. IMHO good business practices come from the top down. Jeff, the manager, knows how to train his employees and realizes that good customer service is good business. Yes, they cost a little more than other places. But that's comparing a Honda to a BMW. Came here to return a package to Amazon. I had my own box and prepaid label and the surly staff insisted on charging me $1 for literally 6 inches of tape to seal the box. Also a $10 credit card minimum. Would much rather use the Fedex store by Shattuck/Allston, much friendlier staff there that are helpful. read more

Don't trust this ups store. Package was lost (most likely stolen). Told the guy that it was a phone and he told me to ground ship it and it would take 2-3 days to get to the place. Little did I know that there is no way to track the package. Theoretically, they could've charged me to ship it, taken the phone out of the pile of packages and I would be none the wiser. Be careful here. This place exaggerates/lies about shipping costs. I went here and was quoted $20.xx for a package. It sounded quite high but I was in a hurry in decided to trust them. I asked if they could tell me what FedEx or USPS would charge. They said they USPS would be $24.xx, so I thought, 'ok, decent deal'. I then went online to check out the real cost which was a lot cheaper then their quote, so I went back and to their credit they let me 'return' the shipment. I then went to USPS and it ended up costing $12.xx. The weight on the USPS scale was less than they quoted at the UPS store so unless their scale is miscalculated they flat out lied. read more

If I could give them zero stars I would. Worst customer service I've seen in years. These folks must be FedEx plants to drive customers away from UPS. I have an account. I tried to create two shipments on the UPS website like I've done hundreds of times. The website wouldn't print my shipping labels. I walked down to the store and asked them to ship using my account. They said they couldn't. I'd have to drive to the Oakland Airport to do that -- about a 25 mile round trip in traffic. I'm not paying $18 per envelope to drive to the Oakland Airport -- it would take me less time and money to deliver these to Alameda myself. They said they had nothing to do with UPS. I asked why is the name on the store? No answer. Just, "have a nice day." You too. Without me. You did your job. I'm switching to fedex. read more

The customer service here was terrible when I went in to ship a picture. I showed up a bit before 4:15, thinking the store closed at 5, but it turned out they close at 4:30. For some reason the first clerk measured my picture and was about to get a box and then the manager redid the measurement. At that point it became clear he was annoyed that I showed up just before closing with a 'special request'. I said I just wanted the box and to ship it and would package it myself, and he then made a big deal out of them not being willing to stay open late, even after I said I thought I could get it package within a few minutes and if not I would come back. Then I made a mistake on the shipping form and took another form and started to fill it out. The manager again got annoyed and made it clear this was a big inconvenience because the shipping forms are numbered. I said that I was sorry but that I made a mistake, and I didn't think it was a big deal. At which point he got more annoyed and said it was a big deal. I then said they were being a pain in the ass and I'd figure something else out and left. Hard to believe that UPS can't set up a better system such that a customer making a basic mistake on a form throws the system awry. And hard to believe that UPS would want to franchise (I presume this is franchised) with these folks given the customer service here. Finally it turned out that my package would have been $70 to ship; I ended up at Fedex up the street, where it was $28. And the Fedex clerk was actually helpful and friendly. I've heard that Fedex ground is not unionized while UPS is, so I'd like to use UPS, but not with this experience and the huge price difference. read more

I have been using this UPS store for almost a decade for my mailbox. Even when I sometimes forget to retrieve mail for months, they would keep it for me and as soon as they see me, they would take out the mail. It's that much personal service. I have dropped in for all kinds of services, like notary, or bulk shipping. The manager there is always trying to figure out a solution, even when it's near holiday time and slamming busy. I am not sure what the other reviews are talking about, but since it's near UC Berkeley and you get all kinds of students going there, it's probably not easy to manage to satisfy everyone. read more

Well, chalk up another one star review for this place. Unbelievably bad customer service experience there this morning. I was told by a client who has a mailbox there that I could just drop off her package to this location, and that she would let them know in advance that I was doing so. When I showed up this morning, the person at the counter said, "No. Can't do it." Not, "gee, I'm sorry, but we can't accept hand delivered packages to a P.O. box, it's just policy" but a stony faced, "No. Can't do it." When I expressed disbelief at that policy, he stopped short and said "no need for an attitude!" I asked him whether there was any way they could get around this, he said, "uh, let me check," took a few steps away, and then turned back and said, "No. If you want, we can mail it out for you and then it will come back." What I found appalling was the complete lack of basic customer service skills from "Jeff", "the manager"(he refused to give his last name!). I took the package to USPS and paid next day delivery just to be absolutely sure it will arrive for my client, with a tracking number, because I sure don't trust the people who work here. read more
