Excellent customer service... I had to ship 66 individual items each with their own address and package contents. They tag-teamed the job between 4 of them and got it done very quickly, creating the labels and packaging the items. I will only be shipping with them going forward. On a side note, the FedEx at 4th & Congress refused to help me. They handed me 66 envelopes and told me to input the addresses on the computer myself. This place sucks. I brought in a UPS envelope that was sent to me pre-labeled in another city and they wouldn't take it. However, they were okay with me handing it to a UPS delivery truck driver when he showed up at this store! I mean, what's the difference between me handing it to a truck truck driver and they taking it from me? NOTHING! This is why I hate UPS. My mom sent me a package to my last apartment filled with mom-goodies like cookies and clothes. Somehow, my address got covered up on the package or something and I never got it although their tracking system said it had been delivered. So I call up the UPS and I ask them where my package went and what they're planning to do in case it got stolen and they told me I had to speak with the person whose UPS store it was shipped from and that they'd file a claim for me. I called that store and after making sure that I knew they knew I was crazy for calling them, they said, "There's nothing we can do about this situation, take it up with UPS corporate." I've been through this game before so I went ahead and started calling UPS corporate. I called them on about a twice weekly basis for about a month, fuming every time. Somwhere along the way, a UPS representative lets slip that the driver didn't know where I lived so instead of returning the package, he looked up my name on the internet and delivered it to the first C. Mylastname he found since there were no Carrie Mylastnames listed. How. Fucking. Professional. So. Since UPS is refusing to pay me off because my package was delivered and I have no other recourse, I look the dude up and he's a nice old man who lives near me and he's happy that I'll be by to pick up the package that was left on his porch one day without a knock. See how easy that was? Would I ever trust UPS to ever ship anything again? Not on your life. read more

I recently moved from Austin to Chicago and used this store for shipping some of my stuff, including an LED TV. When I first walked in I was pleased with the overall friendliness of the staff, even though I had to wait for about 10-15 minutes before actually being helped. The guy that helped me seemed to be very confident in what he was doing. He quoted me for a couple of boxes that seemed a little expensive, but reasonable. But then he started quoting me on shipping the TV (37"). He claimed that in order to have it fully insured they would have to do some extensive packing. I did have it in the original packaging, but I understand the need for additional care to have it fully insured. After running some numbers, he stated that the cost would be around $270 to ship the TV. I was fortunate in that I actually shipped the very same TV from LA to Austin less than a year ago. At that time, I also used a local UPS Store in Manhattan Beach, CA, where they packaged it themselves. It was fully insured as well, for only $115, which I still have the receipts for. So why the $155 price difference. I explained this same situation to the employee and he explained that there store was a professional packing store and that was simply the price to ship. There was no way I was going to pay that much for the TV seeing that I knew what the price should be. He offered me an alternative option for $125, but it would not be fully insured. I decided to take a chance on that and hope that everything went well. I asked if there was anyway they could put a "Fragile" note on the box, to which he sort of chuckled and explained that UPS does not believe in the word fragile. Awesome news. It was scheduled to arrive Monday, January 13th, yet it is now Wednesday the 15th and still have not received what may or may not be a broken TV. I like to think that I'm pretty easy to get along with in terms of retail environment, but I am truly not impressed with this store. I will 100% not be going back to this location, and may actually try to find alternatives for shipping after this experience. read more

First, I would like to point out that every review for this store is actually a general review of UPS. I don't have a strong opinion of UPS, but I do have a strong opinion about this particular UPS store. I don't like sending packages because typically there are lines and confusing rules and forms and special tape and blah blah blah. However, shipping packages at this store = not having to deal with any of that claptrap. I walk in, get greeted immediately and warmly. I hand over my package and shipping address. They weigh it, type it in, print out the label and send me on my happy way. I will HAPPILY pay the additional $2-3 to get this type of quick, efficient, friendly service on a package that will most likely actually get where it's going with tracking and insurance as a matter of course. read more

My printer was on the fritz, so I emailed them my packing slip and headed out to ship my package. I got there and was told that they charge a $2 fee to receive an email, and then after that they could pin it out for the cost of paper and printing. $2 to receive an email is insulting to me as a consumer. We all know it is free. It does not make sense that I can have UPS drive out to my rural house to pick up a parcel in a truck for free, but if I drive to their store and ask them to print one piece of paper they charge $2 + printing and paper. I know it is "independently owned" etc, but it says UPS, and I'm calling it UPS. Dude at the front counter could care less, probably because if he made a small effort to "keep the customer" and just print it, he might be reprimanded. Summary: My business is not worth $2.15 to them for the convenience of their company saving gas. read more

If you just wanna drop off a pre-boxed package, this is the place for you. I wouldn't recommend mailing anything large from here tho. The first time I mailed a computer monitor, this place sent it to *my* address (the sender's address). The second time, the monitor arrived shattered (possibly not their fault...I totally get that). Customer service leaves a lot to be desired tho. I prob wouldn't be smiling all the time if I worked there either, but they could at least attempt to fake it. Or insincerely say hello and thank you. There's a guy that works there during the day that is a 1st class grump; it's very disconcerting encountering him train other employees, talking down to them, etc. There's lots of places to mail packages and buy package sundries. I'll be exploring all of the other places from now on... To wit: I just left the US Post Office where they charged me $5 less to mail a package than the cost quoted & weighed up for me (for the same package) at the UPS store. They were exponentially friendlier, & much more helpful. And they didn't try to up-sell me on some unnecessary additional packaging. read more

The best and most friendly staff in the city! I have had a box here for just over a year. John, Stephen, Jammie & Kevan are probably some of the nicest people I have met since moving to Austin. They know me by name and by sight; during slow times have my items out on the counter before I walk in the door. They have even helped me to my car with heavy items. Despite very high customer volumes everyone behind the counter is always respectful, cheerful, and works efficiently together as a team to shorten wait times. Their attitudes and professionalism make the mailing experience as pleasant as possible. I wouldn't think of getting my mail anywhere else and will actually miss seeing them when we move away. read more

This place used to be a lot better, mainly because of the personnel turnover in the past year or two. Formerly, some of the staff had been a bit on the "alternative" side, but this is Austin and all that, and they were friendly and helpful, and they also appreciated the rare customers who would treat them personably. Now, it seems to be managed, or dominated, by this guy who thinks he has to be gruff and condescending in order to wield authority and command respect. I myself hate being "customer-serviced" and addressed fake-nice formally and such, but I also hate being talked-down-to and leaving wishing I could grind someone's face into the pavement. (That's an unfortunate recent development.) Also, since the recent regime change*, I have been told, on various occasions, by varous new personnel, that I should call or go to the Post Office where the UPS Store receives mail for clients, and inform the USPS of a package that was supposed to have been delivered to me - by, and ultimately at, the UPS Store. If one is paying for the UPS Store to retrieve mail from the USPS, shouldn't the UPS Store personnel be conscientious and assertive about ensuring that delivery? Whose job is it, anyway? (*) Refer to the trend of negative comments described in previous posts since 2014. read more

The most horrible experience Store staff were advised I was shipping a legal document. It did not arrive on time due to UPS fault. Staff refused to refund claiming it was customs fault in Mexico. Instead they had me go to UPS who says it is not there store so to go back to them. After many calls UPS accepted it was their fault. After a month and a half, numerous phone calls, all UPS personnel and store's staff all keep lying and no refund. Remember there is a choice. I learned the hard way. Cheap is more expensive. I saved a few bucks for not going to fedex, I regret now this poor decision read more

Incompetent employees, i took my mail to the front desk lady in which i provided the address to her. In the system it added an extra digit to the address and she informed me it does it all the time. Later to find out it never made it i come back to the store to track it and figure what happened as she pulled up the address on the maps its showing a different location. Lacked empathy for her misguidance then says well we made u sign some paper to transfer liability in which no other stores ever make you sign. Both the 2 workers in the front just lacks good customer service and by the looks of it this place has bad reviews. Prices here seem outrageous too you are better off just going to a different store even if u have to walk further. They seem incompetent, lack accountability, empathy and everything that could make the store 5 stars. They all just seem unethusiastic working there - go to the USPS right by Chilantro off Congress - they will remember your names, crack jokes and make you feel at home and they have it down to a science read more

I went to return clothes, normally a very seamless process. I walk in and let the man at the front desk know that I needed to print my return label. I asked if I could email it to him to print and he said that it would be $5. After stating this he immediately walked away to tend to another task and finally yelled "or the printer over there starts at $3". I walked over to print my label and the first 4 times that I scanned my card nothing changed with the machine, it still requested that I scan my card. After that I went over to find the man, "did you try it different ways?" he questioned. I had tried it different ways, frustrated I went back to the machine to try a 5th time. It worked, I printed my label and went back to the desk to complete my transaction. He took my stuff and said "we can't provide a receipt for this so you'll need to take down the tracking number" then he disappeared. Finally done with this 20 minute ordeal... I got home, checked my bank account and realized that the machine had charged my card five times the amount to use the printer. Due to the limited options we have in the shipping/mailing industry I would appreciate some better service at this location. Thanks! read more

Just had a horrible experience here. I wanted to buy a box, pack it myself and ship it UPS. The guy there basically wouldn't sell me a box. Said they would pack it and proceeded to tell me my stuff weighed 35 pounds, when I could see that it was only 6.5 pounds. He wanted to charge me $75 for ground + packing fees, packing supply fees, putting it on a truck fee (which is when I stopped listening). He said it would be over $100! Walked down the street to FedEx and paid $22 for everything and it will arrive sooner. read more

Jeez, where do I start? I joined yelp after years of using it only as a lurker just to write this scathing review. I guess I was finally motivated. I went in today to get I-9 paperwork for a major state university notarized. I was told immediately that they can't notarize I-9s per the Secretary of State. I looked through my paperwork a bit as the university had sent me instructions to give to the notary. I told the person working that I think I had figured it out, I didn't need them to notarize the I-9, I needed them to review the I-9 that I had already filled out and notarize a totally separate document saying they had done so. I asked the gentleman working to look over the instructions and he refused and walked away. I asked him to question his logic - would a state university that employs thousands of people really do things this way if it was against the law, as he suggested? Blank stare. After the gentleman was extremely dismissive 2-3 times, he suggested his coworker (who was lovely but seemed like his employee maybe?) called someone to talk to me. After explaining my situation to the woman on the phone, even SHE said that I was better off going to another place because while what I was saying made sense, without actually being there, she couldn't help and said I could likely find a more helpful notary. Well, guess what, I did! They said they'd done similar paperwork a lot before and, just as I had suspected, since they weren't notarizing the actual I-9, everything was AOK. UPS has never done much to win my love and devotion, but my latest run-in with them involved this branch store and set the bar at a new low. Here is my tale of woe. First, some background. For the first delivery attempt, I was at work, where most people are when UPS tries to deliver packages. The "second delivery attempt" apparently occurred at 4:59 a.m. the next day, according to an email I received ("we missed you at 4:59 a.m."). To put a stop to this delivery farce, I sprang for the $5 charge to have the delivery re-routed to this UPS store, where my troubles escalated. When the clerk at the store couldn't find my package, he had me read my tracking number out loud while he typed it into the computer. Before he could finish, one of the other clerks just picked up the package from an obvious table. I was anxious to conclude this sad saga, but before I could the first, less astute clerk told me I owed a $10 "storage fee." This is despite the fact that I had already paid the UPS fee to have the package re-routed, and I walked over to pick it up one hour after I got an email telling me it had arrived at the store. He claimed that this was because the UPS stores are not in fact owned by UPS, and the store owner can choose what to charge for and how much to charge for it. In my case, this meant that I had to pay a total of $15 in fees to receive an $18 pullover from Amazon that had "free shipping." The unfortunate conclusion is that the UPS stores are not uniform, but are subject to the caprices of the individual store owners. In another review, I described my issues with the other downtown location (they actually charged a fee to accept a package with a prepaid shipping label affixed). I've had good experiences with the location that was formerly on 39th and Lamar, but which has since been razed. The best solution I can come up with is to avoid UPS altogether, unless you can stay at home all day (starting at 5 a.m.), waiting for a delivery. read more

I am modifying my original review. I shipped a package through UPS from this store last week. It could not be tracked by UPS. This happened to me once over a year ago and that package was lost. However, this time, the store employee and the owner told me that the UPS driver probably did not scan the package while accepting it and I should wait at least 3 to 4 days before initiating the process of a lost package. The package has been delivered - so it was as they said, it was indeed UPS issue where they didn't show tracking information, and not a store issue. read more

Then, for $4 a package, UPS picked them up from my second floor home. The $4 might seem high, but I had 11 (large) packages and a Miata. For convenience, this is great. After having several packages stolen I was required to ship directly to a UPS store. Unbeknown to me and the shipper this location charges a franchise specific $15/package fee to receive deliveries. My only option to not pay the surprise charge was to send the packages back and get them delivered to a different UPS store. read more

I work for a courier service. As a rule we always get the full name of the person we left the document with. I've never had a problem with this at ups or anywhere else. I don't normally do reviews and I think the only other one I've done was because someone wasn't very friendly. I've been in this store several times. I've encountered an older gentleman that was nice but you could tell he didn't care about his job and everything was more important than the person in front of him. Haven't seen him the last few times I've been in but I've seen this new guy Justin or Joseph. Not 100% sure on the name, but he is an all star! I've witnessed people yell and throw tantrum as he tries to explain policies or procedures. One situation was a notary that the lady said he has to do it her way and she was being a complete incompetent human as he was doing his very best to help her, and along with every employee in there, because they all had questions. I could tell certain times he was overwhelmed but ALWAYS has such a welcoming smile and literally greets everyone that come in even if it's "Hello, we'll be right with you". You've got something good going for this store! So i commend Joseph and the new faces in the store for working so hard and putting up with rude ass people that come into that store demand it their way! Don't lose great employees by overloading them! I do only have one complaint. The store is so damn hot! Fix the AC for the employees and It's not enjoyable for us customers walking to the store either! I almost gave a 4 star for this but it's not the employees fault! read more

Wow - we've used this store several times. Super nice people and the like, but yesterday, one of the employees helped us to save $60 on shipping a box. That's not insignificant! We were EXTREMELY pleased and will be using this store whenever we can - please frequent these types of establishments that go out of their way to take care of customers! I've moved from Austin :( and drove to my new town. I shipped about 8 boxes through this store. Boxes were (on sale) 94c ea., I filled them up, they picked them up, and they arrived when they said they would with NO problems. They were friendly and professional. On my last day, I dropped stuff off there, told them the address and they packed and shipped it. It was such a relief, esp during the stressful time of moving. They are downtown, but they have a few spots for 15 min loading zones, and I never surprisingly ever had an issue finding a spot. read more

I was running late, coming from work and fighting typical Austin Traffic. The store is supposed to close at 6:30 on week nights. The UPS workers were extremely nice and accommodating, personally making sure my package was taken care of and sent off on the last truck of the day. I have used this UPS Store for a variety of things in the past and have always had a great experience. I feel like I am always given a good price and the staff is very friendly and helpful. The new owner, Jay, has been working at this location, prior to owning, for many years and I feel very comfortable giving them my business and recommending them to others. Shockingly enough, I never have issues with parking either. Last time I was in there, a really nice guy named Chris helped me out... all in all, I've been impressed with this business and I hope they are around for a while. I also noticed that other reviews of this store seem to blame this individually owned business for UPS faults... it is important for Austin to continue to support small, honest businesses like this one. read more

When they see me coming they get my mail out of the box and give it to me when I get to the counter. Under new management, but I have used them for over ten years, and the service is always way above average. No lines for shipping, packing, etc. They have also just added printing services, but I don't use them, so some one else will have to comment. Low turnover in staff too. A good sign. read more

Total ripoff shipping with UPS. Added every single fuel surcharge and delivery fee they could to my package, and it ended up costing 5 times as much to send it with them than with the postal service. This is a terrible location to go to if you are looking for quick and effective service. I went in to mail a package and the employees as well as the manager on staff were not helpful and it took forever for me to explain what I needed done. After fifteen minutes of run around I LEFT and did not get my package shipped. My card was still charged though and when I called to dispute I was interrupted multiple times only to be ignored and dismissed. This store is a big waste of time and space. If you are looking to have things shipped in a rush, I recommend you take it somewhere else! :) read more
