The food in this place is consistently good. I like their unique dishes especially salads. Not crazy about the noise level (yes there are things to do about this with layout props and seating) and the service is definitely hit or miss, mostly miss, even when not so busy. read more

I ordered online a $20 pie with a few toppings and a side of truffle fries. The total came to $43, which would have been acceptable if the pie was a normal size and not a personal pizza. The crust was soggy and severely oily and the fries seemed to be microwaved or at least sitting out for 30 minutes because they were so soggy I thought they were soggy McDonald's fries sprinkled with some cheese. Once my Fiancé went in to pick the food up and we noticed how small the pie was for 3 people, he immediately asked for a refund and to give the food back so we can go somewhere else OR at least expected an explanation or apology. The manager proceeded to refuse to take the food back and issue a refund since it was an online order even though the online menu does not specifically state the size of the pie. Which is very misleading. He or any other members of the staff were not apologetic or understanding about our frustrations and said there was nothing they could do. The manager then proceeded to boast how he "sold 114 pies that day" so there shouldn't be a reason we were unhappy with the size and price match. To top it all off the pizza box was folded backwards. I am a local from the area and will NOT be spending my money or time at this business due to their poor customer service skills. read more

Update from a previous review! Went there with my family again on January 1, 2015. NO HEAT IN THE PLACE! By the time our food arrived, everything was cold and tasteless. Shivered through the entire meal because the temperature inside was only a few degrees higher then outdoors. Everyone around us was wearing coats. Food, although I'm sure it was great when just cooked, was cold by the time it got to us and wasn't worth $100, before tip, I paid for it! VERY DISAPPOINTED THIS TIME! Food is really good and they offer a lot of variety. It's one of my favorite spots on central ave. Try and avoid going at peak lunch hour or peak dinner hour as the service and wait time can be less than perfect. read more

When I walked in, I was told you could not get a table until your full party was here, despite the restaurant being empty. I also could not order a drink while I waited. Finally, once my party arrived, we were seated in the back and ignored. When we finally waved a waiter down, we were able order to the subpar food. The soup was good. The salad was drenched, the pasta was fresh out of the box. We could not get a waiter at any point. No one refreshed our drinks, no one asked us how the food was, no one one brought our dessert we ordered. When I sent uncooked food back, I was told I still had to pay for it, and was asked whether I needed to order anything else. The cheesecake we ordered was delivered frozen. I went here for the first time tonight. From seeing somewhere they were rated one of the best kosher restaurants in NY metro, I decided to try it out. When coming into Upper Crust, the atmosphere is modern with comfortable seating arrangements. The waiters were quick to attend is and the food was served quickly. I noticed right away how many times the bell at the counter was being rung and saw quickly that there was a counter in the middle/rear portion of the eating area as if this is a pizzeria. (The prices deserve better.) There was no bread or crackers severed for our wait. I ordered the gnocchi with spinach and riccota. The riccota was delicious and the gnocchi cooked well though everything was severely underspiced and undersalted. Now when I reached for the salt shaker, I noticed there were brown wet chunks inside of it. Gross. My wife ordered a spinach and mushroom Panini. It was made with dough too thin making it cooked unevenly with wierd hot/cold spots. The mushrooms were obvious canned and not pre cooked so very dissatisfied. When asking for some spices all they could offer was bland marinara with some crushed red pepper spice instead of hot sauce. We also shared a beet salad which was also very small but delicious. I think this place relies too much on how they look while providing a loud atmosphere, and mostly tasteless food with high prices! read more

Last night I went with a couple of my friends to the lower crust and they scammed all of us to give them extra money, by saying it was a "tip" when they already included the tip in our food, the guy also said he was to lazy to get change for me and rounded our money one dollar higher and didn't even offer us to look at the bill. All the money he scammed us for added up to 80+ dollars when I did the math at home. All of my friends told me this isn't the first time it happened. Spread the word! They can't take advantage of people like this!! It's wrong! Who knows you maybe got taken advantage of or will get taken advantage of?! read more

I placed a catering order and JJ was awful. I asked that the order be sent to me so I could review it and he never sent it. I called three times before the lunch to get a review of the order and they wouldn't give me one. They never sent me a receipt with the food and after calling, I received yet another attitude from JJ. He charged me $28 just for the drinks, so I guess that's why he didn't want me seeing it. It is illegal to charge me for an order I never okayed let alone signed for. I will never do business with this place again. I am giving it one star only because I can't post it with zero stars. read more

Great food. Horrible service. Made a reservation and arrived on time. Was seated promptly yet took 10 minutes to get a menu after asking 2 waiters. Finally ordered our food after 15 min sitting with our menu. After ordering, received our water with no plates to eat our appetizer. Waited about five mins for plates and eventually went to counter to ask for plates. The waiter handed me 3 plates (didn't bother bringing it to the table), one of which was dirty. Eventually got our food which was delicious. After our meal, we asked for desert menus from 2 different waiters (waited 5 minutes in between). The only reason I am giving 2 stars is that the food was great and the host redeemed himself and his waiters by apologizing and and not charging us for our meal. My advice, order your meal as takeout. read more

The food was well prepared, delicious, and attractively presented, and for the most part fairly priced. In addition, contrary to other reviews, I found service to be friendly and attentive -- but I avoid restaurants during "rush hour" to avoid seating delays and service back-ups. I ordered the mahi-mahi, primarily because local kosher fish retailers don't sell it, and it was delicious, not overcooked at all, and imaginatively presented on a mound of chunky/mashed avocado, with a deliciously acidic souse. Shredded winter squash (zucchini and yellow squash) was perfectly crunchy/tender, and spinach and mushrooms was also perfectly cooked, although slightly under seasoned. My wife ordered the egg plant parmesan, which she said was very good, albeit somewhat over-cheesy (three cheeses, I believe, plus a bit of marinara; we might have prefered more sauce and less cheese). Espresso was not quite strong enough. On a previous visit we had pizza (nicely prepared in a wood burning oven) and the salmon, which was ever-so-slightly overdone for our taste, but probably just fine for most people. About our only serious complaint is lack of a coat room -- about 10 hooks in the very back were all there were to accommodate a potentially large crowd on a cold winter evening. read more

Came in here with my kids. They love pizza. Me not liking all those carbs opted for a salad. I was very happy with the way it tasted and the staff was very courteous. I would definitely recommend. My only criticism is that the dressing was a little to strong for my taste. read more

I recently moved to cedarhurst and decided to try this place. At first I absolutely loved the food! But after having gone there more than 20 times now, their food is not always good. I ordered a pasta to go one day, and when I opened it, I received plain pasta that wasn't fully cooked with sliced cherry tomatoes on top. I was appalled by this. Not only was the pasta not cooked right, it didn't have the ingredients it said it would on the menu: like roasted artichoke, baby spinach, fresh mozzarella. Not only that, they charged me $27 for (3) mac and cheese bites (which I have no complaints on) and the pasta. I'm 1 person. I thought that was ridiculously expensive. Because this was only one of the bad experiences I had eating here, I will never return. You might get lucky and get exactly what's on the menu but I don't think it's worth the risk.
