They live and die by their steak, and it shows. Despite being medium rare, it still melted in my mouth. It was my first time try a past rolls and I enjoyed that too. The real Kicker was Dessert! I love French cuisine and try to eat it every chance I get. So of course I hopped on the reservation wagon when restaurant Five Fifty decided to host an 11 course tasting menu event with guest chef Avner Guzman visiting from France at the helm.  11 courses were promised and 11 were expertly executed as well. Being that tonight was the first night, communication between the servers and kitchen was a bit lacking so that needs to be streamlined better. The owner, managers and staff were very accommodating and apologetic as well so I was happy to see that nobody was delusioned in thinking everything was just smooth sailing. Regardless,  all the servers were really friendly and warm and tried their utmost best to be as attentive and helpful to each table of guests.  Each dish had its own unique flare to them.  The evening menu was split into 3 parts, 5 small plates for the first course, 5 small plates for the second course and a surprise dessert.  So if you've never experienced true French cuisine some of the techniques and food preparation will be lost to you. Our table suggested to chef and the restaurant owner that for the next two seatings they should have him explain each to the crowd before they serve it. Out of 11 dishes only maybe two were not their best but we won't be talking about those today. Chef put in a lot of effort to try and implement classic pairings like in his unctuous lamb confit on top of aligot: a pureed potato dish that has the consistency of gooey cheese,  which is achieved by ricing the hot potato and gradually adding butter,  milk and cheese while aerating the hot potato mix. But for obvious reasons,  that technique was not used this night. So to the untrained palate the potato accompaniment would seem to be gummy and over-processed. Not sure how Chef did it,  but his preparation for aligot tonight was perfectly spot on. The Foie gras on a sliced toasted baguette with the delicious mango and papaya chutneys was outstanding, however the foie gras terrine was not prepared by chef nor in-house and was quite disappointing. Salmon tartare was not heavily cured so made for a nice light dish. Seared cod encrusted in black olive packed a ton of flavor in the dish.  The duck breast was seared to a beautiful medium rare, and the steak pensille was seared to a gorgeous ruby rare. I'm not a fan of white chicken meat but tonight chef 's version was flavorful and very tender.  I really appreciated that dessert was kept very simple and light and used the accompanying yet contrasting flavors textures of both fruit and vegetable.  The meal was truly reminiscent of a lot of the great meals I've had in France proper and I will definitely be back soon to try Five Fifty's regular menu as well! read more

My second time coming here. The first occasion was a birthday party, and everything was on point. Everyone had a great time, and the service was impeccable. Tonight, I had the beet salad (since I loved it last time). It was delicious and the presentation was great. We had a bone in ribeye medium rare, and it was perfect. The chilean sea bass was incredible. Slightly golden brown with a thin crust, and inside was melt in your mouth and flaky. The space is modern but with a cozy vibe. As for the service, horrendous. Clearly no training and it seems like amateur hour. Very young, careless and uneducated. Food... overpriced, small portions and it takes forever to get your food. I have been there twice and both times our orders were wrong! I'm not sure why I tried it a second time. Food was bland, nothing special. I had a steak and it was VERY fatty. My fiancé had the halibut and it was just ok. As for the sides, we were not impressed. It seems the menu changed from just a month ago. We went in for a specific dish and it was no longer offered. Drinks... horrible! They are trying to be a new and upcoming type of place as far as their drink menu but if that's what you are trying to achieve then hire an educated mixologist. Price ... WAY over priced! If you're going to charge along the lines of a 4 star restaurant, then have the staff and hospitality to go along with it. Management... don't bother. Complaints are shot down and not listened to. Even though our order was wrong twice, we were not accommodated accordingly. All in all, don't bother. Horrible service, horrible management and horrible ownership. I overheard the staff talking about how they have to hand in all of their cash tips to the business at the end of the night!!! HorribIe service! I arrived at 7 pm and the waiter didn't even come to our table until 7:50. The food was awful and overpriced. My $30 hamburger had pieces of fat and bones in it. When I finally got the hamburger I asked for ketchup and that took another 15 minutes to get. At this point, the food was cold. The quality of the food was poor and the service was terrible. If you're coming for the food, you came to the right place. If you're coming for ambiance or a romantic, quiet dinner, this may not be the best option. Tables are very close together making it hard to hear your companion. A large potion of the restaurant is dedicated to take-out which doesn't enhance the decor. Don't waste your time and money in this place. One of the worst food , overpriced, and service is terrible. We were there on a Monday night, pretty slow day. It took almost an hour to get our food. Most of us (8 in a party) ordered medium burgers and steak. All burgers were burnt to crisp, steak raw. Service horrible. And they add 20% tip on the bill. Avoid avoid. read more

Five Fifty is a classy, upscale restaurant. The atmosphere is relaxed, and my wife and I found the food excellent. We shared the Tomahawk steak cut, and all I can say is, super-yum! We had enough to take home for our son as well (don't know why one reviewer thought the portions are small, they were quite reasonable). I have to tell you that I'm a finicky person, and I don't impress easily, but I have to say that I had a great experience at this restaurant. First, the ambiance and décor is just top notch! Beautiful chandeliers and table settings just welcome you. The wait staff, albeit a bit overzealous, were very attentive to our needs. It was hyped up by the restaurant to be the best quality meat in the area that money can by, and boy, were they right. Over priced horror show! If you're not a 5T regular or well known then the service is miserable. It took 50 minutes for our food to come out and when it did the medium steak was extremely rare. When I complained, I was told it's hard to cook a steak accurately because of the bone. Really, you call yourself a steakhouse and you can't cook a steak properly?! My sons were hungry so they ate the bread - it became amusing because each time they asked for more bread less came out. The food was plated in the "nouvelle cuisine style", so it looks wonderful but there isn't much of it. To add insult to injury it lacked taste and seasoning; my kids left hungry! What a miserable birthday dinner! SAVE your money or drive to Manhattan. I totally regret going and feel I owe my son another dinner since this was so miserable. read more

Surroundings nice, food good and yes it's expensive as most kosher restaurants are! The one thing that doesnt seem to change in all these reviews over the months is the service... It's slow and amateurish! You feel as though the staff was not trained before they started work here! I dont fault the servers, it's a management issue. We asked for water and they say "sure" 15mins. later we ask another bus person and they say "sure" and then finally we hailed down our server and said that a 1/2 hr to wait for water is outrageous! The same thing happened when we asked for "Pepper" which they don't put on the table (probably afraid people will steal the pretty wood box it's stored in). Do i want to go back....YES....but why? The answer is most kosher restaurants in the five towns are awful....noisy with undisciplined children and equally unruly parents, this is a place where couples can celebrate and enjoy a quieter noise level with some well behaved children with parents who have taught them how to enjoy but respect others! read more
