The food unfortunately didn't do it for me. I ordered the classic Greek salad and there was something that made it bitter, it wasn't enjoyable and didn't want to try to finish it unfortunately. I also got the Gyro but in a bowl, the waitress convinced me to do that but it wasn't very tasty, I added some salt and it made it better but still not what I expected, specially because it claimed to be an authentic Greek spot. We both ordered the gyro special and were very satisfied! It was the perfect portion size and we left feeling full. The gyro meat was melt in your mouth tender with a nice crisp on several pieces. The kabob was a little chewy but tasted delicious. The salad was da bomb! Fresh lettuce cucumbers and tomatoes with olives and feta cheese! We were in heaven. 4.5 Last night we visited the Costco in Lawrence, which we've done many times before. We always noticed a very unassuming little restaurant right across the street, but never thought much of it. We finally looked it up and decided to give it a try....I am angry it took us so long to try it! Lucky Boy Restaurant was fantastic. A smallish no frills place, that serves some wonderful food. The Greek salads offered with our dishes were served first and were large; fresh and tasty. There was a Moussaka special with chicken and it was absolutely fabulous. The sauce, the eggplant, the chicken and bechamel were all outstanding. We also got the gyro special plate which was served with pita and tzatziki. Probably the best gyro, we've had. It wasn't greasy with excellent texture and flavor. It also came with a stick of souvlaki which was great and unbelievably tender. It was hard to stop eating it all. They also have homemade desserts. We took a piece of coconut cake home and it was scrumptious. We are really keeping kicking ourselves for ignoring Lucky Boy for so long, but no more. read more

Fantastic, everything was great, from the outside, even though it doesn't seem like much. They have a mini parking lot to the right next to a matress store. With their front door facing the highway. The ambience is casual, and you don't get much of a view from Rockaway Turnpike, but you can still see the planes take off from JFK. They have reasonable prices for the quality and amount of food you're getting. We got a salad, dolmados, the gyro special, spinach pie, coffee, and coconut cream pie. Our table was clean when we got there, and the staff were very friendly. There was not much of a wait to sit down and order food. Our food arrived fresh, and very tasty! The salad was huge, and can be shared between 2 people. The gyro special comes with a kabob, lamb, pita quarters, lettuce, tomato, onions, and tzatziki sauce. It's kind of like a deconstructed gyro plate. The salad comes with peppers, onions, feta, tomatoes, cucumbers, olives, and radish. The dolmados you order will have 8 pieces, and will be served on a bed of lettuce, olives, and a slice of lemon, the only thing unappealing was that the lettuce was limp and oily. The spinach pie was really good, and had stringy mozzeralla in it, which was interesting. But the pastry itself was really flakey, and not greasy. They refill your soda if you get any. We had coffee following our food, and a slice of coconut cream pie which had a very light refreshing taste, the crust was a bit hard, but it was good. read more

Some of the best food you can find is in some of the most unlikely places. We stayed at a nearby hotel - one which I can't recommend. The front desk staff is INCREDIBLY rude. However, one of them was inadvertently helpful when I asked where we should eat. I had already check Yelp, of course, and saw this place had a solid 'almost 5' rating, but wanted a local's opinion. He made sure I knew he was put out by the request, but still pointed across the street and a little to his right and said "Lucky Boy. Ask for Susan and she'll take good care of you." She sure did. First off, don't be put off by the exterior. The neighborhood is run down, and so is the outside, but that's not a big deal. Go on in and have a good meal. Susan brought us some pita with tzatziki and it was surprisingly tasty. It had a great charred flavor from the griddle. We ordered the fried zucchini appetizer and it was obviously made from scratch and we really enjoyed it. I had a greek salad with salmon. It could have used a few more olives, but I really like olives. The salmon was great. Wonder Wife and one of my daughters split a gyro. It was about the size of a junior-sized football... see picture. My mom got a burger and said it was good - but who knows? She orders everything extra well-done, so to me it looked like charcoal. :) The steak fries were good and so were the onion rings. The desserts - holy ... wow. We each got one: Coconut Cream Pie, Chocolate Cream Pie, Bread Pudding and something I can't remember the name of, but was shredded filo with an almond/vanilla sauce, custard, whipped cream, pistachios, etc. The crust on the pies is like eating a shortbread cookie. The chocolate pie was amazing. The bread pudding was really good, but was served cold and sliced like a slice of pie. I'm more used to hot bread pudding with some sort of sauce. But, I figure this is just a variation and it tasted really good. The 'nameless' dessert was good, although some found the shredded filo to be a little off-putting.... just the texture and look of it (looks like sauerkraut). But, the dish itself is great. Reasonable prices, too. Anyway, if you are unfortunate enough to get stuck at the hotel down the street, this place will be the silver lining around that dark-ass cloud. read more

We have been looking for a Greek Resturant that was good not great. My wife's mother was Greek and it's always a treat to have home cooked meals like she had living in Forest Hills. Lucky for us after 40 years in the five towns we stopped into LUCKY BOY as we were tired of all the shops in the five towns. There all good but we were missing a piece of the puzzle. The food was really good. I'd call it great but how would I know what great is. We now have gone twice in 8 days and leave full satisfied and happy. The staff is fantastic! Great full for customers but after being vaccinated the freedom of sharing our food budget was a blessing! We leave stupidly high tips and feel gitty about it as they have families to feed and we are great full they are on Rockaway Turnpike serving so classically perfect Greek cuisine.
