It's also very shareable (thought I took a pic but didn't..oops!). The churros were crispy and came in 4 pieces with a side of chocolate to dip. It was good but could be a bit softer inside. Overall, good spot to meet up for drinks and snacks! Service: Our waitress was super attentive and very nice. She checked in on us often. Ambiance: It's a nice spot. Looks like a big log cabin and plenty of tables and seatings. Great for watching sports too. There was a singer there for the night and he was good! There's also a parking lot in the front. Would go again.

The customer service was impeccable. The girls never let the drinks get too low in your glass. It will be off the cocktail. The water was always filled. They cleaned the plates right away. She weren't waiting. The variety of proof was out of this world. It was a beautiful, beautiful restaurant. Everything was individual rooms quiet but we do other people together. Really felt like you were special cause you were in a separate room and it was decorated so beautifully. The first course was appetizers. We had the fresh pumpkin hummus with homemade pita bread and then we had a calamari dish with some hot sausage in it then they have these beautiful steamed mussels with homemade bread, focaccia bread and it has some nice hetbs and stuff soaking in the broth. Then we had the buffet is started out with some fresh Scully bread, as well as some fresh rolls and butter, and the first part of that was a beautiful assorted salad. That was lovely. I had two of those cause. I can't eat a lot of meat and then. The next dish was a ziti with homemade sauce and then they had a beautiful Parmesan risotto with herbs and the next one was like a Portuguese chicken with vegetables and tomatoes that just fell off the bone it was amazing and then the last dish was a a Portuguese dish of roasted pork with little neck clams the husband I got him that cause he likes that type of thing, but everybody was cooked so beautifully presented wonderfully. I didn't get a chance to take pictures at the beginning, but I did get some during the buffet and then and everything was just impeccable. The desserts were delicious. There was some beautiful custard tarts with fresh fruit, homemade macaroons, brownies, and some petty food type of desserts. But I would definitely go back there for dinner, but I know for a fact while waiting for my friends to come that many people had a very long weight. One couple came in there was only two people the wait was 45 minute wait and then somebody else came in and there was an hour wait I like a party of six people just took it in stride like they must've known this was happening and they took and came back. if I definitely come over again to eat, I would definitely do it under the reservation. I learned that just by sitting there waiting for my friends to come. But everything was definitely an 11 out of 10 I could not have asked for better meal food was just impeccable and everything just went really great.

I believe this place has made numerous small improvements enough to get bumped up to 4 stars. In order to get a 4 star, what does a place have to do? In my book, typically the food has to be great to earn that spot. So, the seasoning has improved and the freshness has also improved. The speed and the quality of service has improved or perhaps about the same. Nothing to complain about service quality. Because it was a Friday night, the place was packed and had to wait a little bit to get seated. The wall to wall 16 big screens all going at the same time can be noisy and distracting. That's the whole reason, written in a box probably designed for doctor's appointments. Then I walk the two people who raised me out to the car and drive them to a restaurant they've probably eaten at many times before any of us needed permission to go anywhere. They just can't remember the last time they were there. We went to the Greenwood Inn. There are restaurants that spend a lot of money trying to look retro and cool. Greenwood doesn't have to. The place has been feeding travelers and locals in one form or another for nearly 300 years. It was once a stagecoach stop. When the Stonington Railroad came through in 1837, it became a railroad station. Later it was a saloon with a reputation for fights and rowdy crowds. Then Henry and Norma Papa took over in the 1950s and began turning it into the family restaurant Warwick knows now. The Papa family is still running it, three generations later. The room looks like it has lived some of that history. Dark wood. Big exposed beams crossing a high white ceiling. Old-fashioned lanterns hanging between them. Green leather booths. White tablecloths covered with brown paper. A massive stone wall cutting through part of the dining room. TVs over the bar showing golf. Nothing about it feels designed for 2026. Good. Then you open the menu. Calling it large doesn't quite explain it. Steaks and chops. Fried seafood. Italian dishes. Burgers. Sandwiches. Wraps. Homemade chicken soup every day. Senior and children's menus. Sixteen beers on tap. An extensive wine list. Greenwood describes itself as American, Italian and seafood, which sounds less like a concept than three restaurants agreeing to share a kitchen. Mom got a meatball sandwich. Dad got a BLT with bacon crisp enough that you could hear it break. I got the chicken parm sandwich. And because I help run RI: The Pizza State, I ordered a pizza. "Research." At least that's what I told my parents, anyway. Half cheese. Half pepperoni. It arrived on one of those raised metal stands, looking slightly ridiculous in the middle of a table already covered with sandwiches and fries. Greenwood Inn has almost every excuse imaginable to make mediocre pizza. Pizza isn't the identity of this place. It isn't even close. With a menu this big, they could put some sauce and cheese on perfectly serviceable dough, bake it until everything melted and call it done. Instead, somebody back there knows how to make pizza. The crust is hand tossed. It rises unevenly around the perimeter, with bubbles and little folds where somebody actually handled the dough. The rim is light inside and browned outside, with enough substance that nobody is going to mistake this for a New York slice. The sauce has body and plenty of garlic. The cheese melts into it instead of sitting in a heavy layer on top. The pepperoni curls into cups, darkens at the edges and brings a little spice. Then I turned a slice over. That was the moment. Look at that bottom. Deep brown almost from edge to edge. Darker in spots. A dusting of flour or semolina still hanging on. No pale center. No soft patch where the oven never quite got there. They pushed the bake. And they nailed it. The bottom had real crunch while the dough above it stayed chewy. This isn't some pizza obsessive's shop with a special oven and a seventy-two-hour dough program printed on the menu. It's the Greenwood Inn. Pizza could easily be the twentieth thing this kitchen does reasonably well. Instead, it's quite good. Maybe that's what impressed me most. Nobody needed this pizza to be this good. The restaurant has been around for generations. The dining room was busy. My parents were quite happy with their sandwiches. Pizza is one small part of a menu that barely seems to end. But somebody in that kitchen looked at that crust and knew it wasn't ready yet. Somebody cared about the bottom. They didn't have to. They did anyway. Eventually the research ended, which is another way of saying I ate more pizza than anyone who had already finished a chicken parm sandwich had any business eating. Then I drove my parents back. For most of my life, they were the people taking me places to eat. Now I get to take them. I don't know how many more lunches like this we'll get. None of us knows those things while they're happening. So I took the pictures. I'm glad the pizza was good. But that's not why I'll remember it.

This used to be the Checker Club, a classic old-school fine dining restaurant that had gotten a bit shabby in its latter years. The renovation/transformation is astounding. The interior is beautiful & immaculate. My dining companion & I went for Restaurant Week, when they offered a 3-course meal (appetizer, entree or pasta & dessert) for $29.95. I've been to many different places for previous Restaurant Weeks & find that usually there aren't an abundance of choices and/or the servings are a bit smaller than usual. Not the case here! The choices are plentiful & the servings are full-sized. I chose the Clams Casino (3) for my appetizer, which were tasty but a bit dry. They definitely would have benefited from a little more butter in the crumb topping, but a squeeze of lemon made them quite delectable. My entree was 1/2 rack of BBQ Baby Back Ribs. Fall-off-the-bone tender with a nice char, there was the perfect amount of heat & sweet in the sauce. The coleslaw was fine & the sweet potato fries were probably the best I've ever had. Super creamy interior with just a hint of exterior crunch & lightly seasoned... yum! And there were plenty of leftovers to bring home. The absolute best part of the meal, though, was dessert. An Espresso Martini was one of their offerings. Full-size & full-strength, I'd expect to pay $15-$18 elsewhere for this drink alone. Delicious & the perfect ending to our excellent meal. Our server was pleasant & attentive. The real rock star, though, was the Manager, Brett. Such fun watching him work the room, comping small glasses of bubbly to the 4-top next to us as someone was celebrating a birthday, snapping photos & cooing at infants. He stopped to chat at each table, something I really appreciate. 579 has many weekly specials including buck-a-shuck, 50¢ wings, half priced apps & the like. You can sign up for email notifications on their website. Their gorgeous bar area off the main dining room was packed for karaoke night. The place itself was very uninspiring and we entered somewhat with trepidation. The bar area was reasonably full but we opted for the dining area which was much quieter. It was also bland unappealing. Anyway we ordered beers and a Prosecco and studied the menu offerings. For starters we had the 4 shrimp cocktail, the 2 mini tacos and I had the 3 Zippy shrimp - all of which were delicious. The main courses were two of the peachy salmon and with some trepidation the 7oz sirloin steak and we were all pleasantly surprised as to how good they all were. We ended the meal with two mini lava chocolate cakes and the cheesecake. Again, they were very good. With everything the check came to $137, (reasonable for the quality of the meal) for three not including the tip. The young server seemed inexperienced but amicable. The restaurant deserves 4**** for the food but only 2** stars for the decor and ambience.
