My husband and I stopped to get our pizza-fix at this inconspicuous Italian hole-in-the-wall. The fix was more than satisfied. I was to begin with a review of the food: BOMB. Highly recommend the pizzas! The quality is superb! The large pizzas are easily split between three adults. That being said, there was one server working the entire front of the house when we were there, and she was not able to tend to every table quickly. My girlfriend came here one time and suggested the spot, said the pizza's were delicious, and I'm always up for trying new things/places. The location is a bit small. it could probably seat about 40 or so people, so go when its not busy since the "wood stove" oven looks like it fits 2 15" pizzas at a time. It took about 15-20min to get our pizza, but it was well worth the wait. We ordered the Cheezy-D, and if i had come there on an empty stomach, i would have devoured what we had left over. It was GREAT. The prices almost seem not worth it, but if you want quality pizza, this is the place worth paying the price for. One really cool aspect: the list of beers. AMAZING. I can't comment on lunchtime here, as I've only been in for dinner. I absolutely love this place! There's so much here that you don't find in other places. First - The Beer: Their selection is awesome. The list with additional info on the menu is a great plus as well. Any place I can get a Delirium Tremens gets extra points in my book. Second - The food: Everything I've had here has been very tasty. Nothing has fallen short of expectations, and most everything has exceeded them. I've never had bad service here as mentioned by other reviewers. Sometimes the food does take a bit longer than expected, but when I went in with my wife last night, the waitress was very nice, helpful, and prompt. I have decided to eat through their menu of sandwiches and paninis. On my second visit to this lovely restaurant a week ago, I ordered their Garlic Chicken Club sandwich and found it simply divine. Yes, it's overpriced, at $25 for a pizza and over $4 for a bottle of beer. But I guess that's the price you pay for one of the few tasty, trendy places in Bremerton, conveniently located next to Safeway. And it's not terrible when split 3 ways. The Salty Orchard (apple slices, blue cheese, prosciutto, and basil) was delicious. I LOVE fruit with salty foods. The combination of sweet and savory, crispy and chewy... mmmm, love it. I probably overdosed on my daily recommended amount of sodium, but yummy saltiness is worth it. The crust was my ideal degree of medium-thick, soft, and slightly chewy. I'm visiting Bremerton from California and decided I wanted pizza. Although I was tired after traveling and spending the day with family, I decided to take a chance. I'd looked at the other options in town and settled on this, even though it's about 12 miles from my hotel (yeah, I'm nuts). I was NOT disappointed. It's in a strip mall, down a few doors from Safeway, which was off-putting. But after driving twenty-five minutes to get there, I decided to go in and scope it out. It was busy, with only a few tables open. The service was friendly and prompt without feeling rushed or pushy, despite the big party (10 people) at the table next to mine. I ordered a Ballz Deep Double IPA (that came in a can!! [I haven't had beer from a can in about twenty-five years]) and the wedge salad. The beer was great! and the salad was easily the best wedge salad I've ever had; loaded with bacon and just enough cheese and dressing. It wasn't over-dressed - just perfect. The only thing that would have made it better would have been a small handful of grape tomatoes or fresh sliced scallion to add some sweet zing. The diced tomato just didn't cut it. From the salad, I went to the veggie pizza which was delicious. I had three slices of that, even though I'd planned to have just one (yeah, it's GOOOOD). After I'd paid, I'd just gotten out to my car when one of the servers came running over - I'd left my knit scarf on the chair. In California, most places in the Bay Area would just shrug with an "oh well, too bad" attitude. It was nice not to lose the scarf I've had for about forever. The one downside is they didn't put a sheet of wax paper in the box that holds my leftovers. It's not worth demoting the ranking a star, but it would be nice if the food wasn't glued to the box today. I have the choice of peeling it off and getting a layer of cardboard (extra fiber), or leaving some behind, which is a shame. read more

Came to eat tonight on a first date, we got the garlic chicken sandwich and a pizza. Food was great! Our server was so kind and personable, but our issue didn't lie there. The person cooking the food was deplorable. She was loud, rude and made my date and I extremely uncomfortable. At one point, we heard her say to our server that she didn't give a f*** that our servers family was there and that she wanted to know if they were going to eat because she wanted to go on break. Bremerton is famous for merely adequate pizzas, if they're even that. The Toad House seemed like it was going to be a game changer. On our first trip there we had the pesto and artichoke hearts pizza and it was quite good, and certainly different from the standard commercial pizza. But somehow it took us a long time to go back, it seemed a bit of an effort, surprising since I remembered the first time as a positive night, but I guess at the same time not truly exciting. On the second trip we ordered the "vegetarian" pizza which is really just a garlic pizza with sauce and cheese. Perhaps the shittiest pizza I ever tasted in my life. The mozzarella was the usual skim milk with no elasticity or flavor. The very few bits of green pepper were raw; a couple large tomato slices were also cold, raw, and mushy. And the way too many garlics were supposedly roasted but very undercooked and tasted more like bad garlic salt with none of the sweetness of really well roasted garlic. The crust was fine but in the main the pizza was inedible. I ate one piece; my partner ate two; we took the rest home for the dogs. Pretty expensive dog treats. We did also have the artichoke dip and that was splendid. If we ever make it to the Toad House a third time -- and at the moment that seems unlikely -- we'll custom-design the toppings since the menu otherwise has only two veggie choices, one good but not spectacular, the other simply horrific. But there are many options possible. I only wish we'd done it on our second journey so that it would be easier to return. I'm not a drinker but anyone who loves a good beer will find the Toad House pleasing (not to mention, if you get a buzzed before the pizza arrives, it will probably taste better as you'll lose some of your judgement). Of course, anyone with a real knowledge of microbrews won't be impressed, as the selection can be found in regular grocery stores, but it's still impressive compared to other small cafes. The dimly lit hipster-bar environment is almost cool, though if you sit in one of the back tables you might want to bring a pen-light to read the menu. Many people find this to be the best pizza joint in Bremerton (which could mean only something like being the best manure factory in manure town); but in reality, nothing "fine" is ever eaten in a strip mall. I can only surmise they make better pepperoni pizzas than veggie ones, or everyone would complain. Or maybe it's just that everyone else gets a couple beers in them and experiences only the pleasant environment and can't really taste the awful pizzas. I give it three stars instead of one for environment, the artichoke dip, and the fun of watching the pizza being made in a lovely open woodfire oven. The percentage of really bad reviews seem to be mostly based on bad service, while others were just surprised that it's so expensive (hey, eating out just costs a lot nowadays, though admittedly $25 to $50 per person at a table should be much better food than this). One person hates the place now because there was a rock in the pizza and he needed dental surgery afterward, and the restaurant refused to take the least responsibility though they saw his bloody mouth and fragmented tooth (evidence the waitress hastily cleared the table when the poor guy went to the bathroom to check how bad the damage was). He seemed forgiving of the terrible accident they caused, but not of their shirking responsibility and quickly destroying the evidence, not even leaving him with the tooth fragment to show his dentist. There are only a handful complaining about how awful the pizzas per se taste. See one person noting their pizza was partially raw so they took it home and finished cooking it; and another noting that the toppings were raw -- that was our experience. We actually found the service fine though I can imagine off-nights; it's harder to imagine so few discouraged by pizzas that look fancier than they taste, even in a town notorious for ordinary-to-bad pizza joints. Do give the reviews settings "lowest ratings first" to see the full range of disappointments, even if baring in mind the Toad House does get a lot of five star ratings. Conceivably the second pizza we had that was so horrifying was a huge mistake on the cook's part and would ordinarily have been better, but I don't think so. The critic who said plainly "This place sucks! I'm tired of hearing people say the pizza is good. I've had better frozen pizza" is closest to the truth. Another just says the pizzas have been "inconsistent." On the basis of both veggie options, though, it's simply a matter of better recipe designs being required. I have gone this place multiple times over the years. Well I had my worst dining experience I have ever had yesterday. We went with friends and the place only had a couple of customers. After waiting for an hour and still had not gotten our appetizer we witnessed another family angry and leaving. We questioned what was going on and was told they were a little behind. We watched multiple to go orders go out and still no appetizer. We were told our food would be discounted. Our friends pizza came out - after 2 hrs and we still had to wait another 20 minutes then we asked for it to go when we received our bill and only one pizza was discounted. When we got home we realized our pizza was actually raw and uncooked. Communication, service and food were all awful. I will not return ever! read more

Not worth the cost, in my opinion. My first time here, I walked out due to the prices, and the atmosphere was a bit heavy handed and snooty. We came back a few weeks later after reading the reviews here - I had to give it a fair shake. 2 adults - one beer each, an appetizer, and a pizza. $50+. Really? I could maybe see it if it were fantastic, but it's not. Is it better than the typical "fast food" type pizzas? Oh yeah. But to jump on that overlooks the bar prices on beer, and that there are PLENTY of other pizza shops that make good food for much less. Round Table Pizza is comparable, in my opinion, to what you get here as far as toppings and quality, for much less. If you want good beer, go to one of the local Alehouses (Silver City or even Hales), instead of paying someone a 200% premium to open a bottle for you. (Pro-tip - don't tell me you're gouging me on the beer prices in the menu. I quote "Take any of our unopened bottled beers home at 50% off the menu price.") The service was decent, but in short, if I'm going to spend $50 on a single meal, it's going to be something more than pizza and beer. *edit* I've since run into an employee of this establishment elsewhere, and they have the same opinion - "The food is good, but (the owner) is a money grubber and knows people will pay it. Not a surprise to see many of the negative reviews. I have never posted a review but after going there tonight, I couldn't wait to get home and make a post. We live close and we like to give our support to family owned businesses in the area. WE WILL NEVER STEP FOOT IN THIS ESTABLISHMENT AGAIN. Besides agreeing with many of the previous posts about being over-priced, the only word to describe the owners of this place is POMPAS. They could really use a course in Customer Service that is crucial to being successful in this industry. We were greeted like we were dogs and told to go sit on the bench until he had time to greet us. Instead of "Hi folks, how are you tonight?, can you give me a few minutes and have a seat right here on the bench? It was exactly like this: "you are gonna have to sit because I am trying to get caught up and it will be awhile......have a seat if you want." No greeting, just a pompass owner who thinks he is invincible to the bad economy. We took a seat for 30 seconds and then decided to just leave and take our business elswhere. That will be the last time we ever go to the TOAD HOUSE. I am one unhappy customer at an average loss of about $2,000 revenue a year to him...... times that by 10 unhappy customers, thats about $20,000 loss per year.....do the math..... it is just a matter of time and he will have no choice but to close his doors. read more

Yay! I'm a fan!! That is what Yelp says when I pick 4 stars. :) Let me say, the reason I didn't give the place 5 stars is because Yelp says "as good as it gets" and honestly...having lived in Italy...well. Sorry. Toad House is no Italy. But hey--no one is!! (except Italy LOL) So we got the bruschetta, which we loved, and a "Standard" pizza which was various meats (sausage, pepperoni) black olives, mushrooms and maybe another topping I'm forgetting. It was $21, which seemed fair enough for handmade pizza from a brick pizza oven. Which I love. Hubby got some sort of local type beer. I think. I got chardonnay. It was all great. We are recent transplants to the area (from a "foodie" location) and I've been overall, quite bummed out by the amount of chain restaurants and lack of just GOOD quality food in the Silverdale area, and so finding this place just brightened my day. Goat cheese on pizza? Yes! And they have a great beer selection. I'm not a beer drinker but the beer list was a few pages long LOL. They don't have a huge menu, which personally, I like, because then they can do what they do the best that they can KWIM? So go, try some pizza and have some beer. I'm not sure who this place thinks it is. My first impression was questioning was "Am I in downtown Seattle?" The price, based on the location, is completely out of whack. The BF and I came here for dinner expecting more of a pub place. The place is somewhat tiny inside. The back wall is lined with all sorts of beer you can buy by the bottle or case without the typical "corking" fee. Maybe the increased cost of drinking here is due to opening bottles, but the cost of a can or bottle of some of their beers was crazy. I looked at ordering a beer that I had bought in a store a week or two earlier and it was nearly $4 more! That being said, I settled with ordering off what they had on tap. The pizza came out in a very reasonable amount of time based on the fact it was made fresh. The BF and I had a pizza with goat cheese on it and it was pretty delicious. Without the quality of the pizza, this place would be 1 star at most. The service was decent, but definitely not worth the inflated cost. Overall, I'd suggest coming here if you want higher-end "artisan" pizza and are willing to pay for such. However, if you're looking for a place to grab a pizza and a beer, possibly try somewhere else or be ready to PAY for that beer! Maybe this place would be good to stop in and get some specialty style beers if you needed a place in Bremerton, but as a package it's not ideal. read more

I'll preface my review with "to each their own".... now, my thoughts on the Toad House. It's a very small & simply laid out restaurant, that looks more like a deli. I have been here twice now, just to give it a fair shake. I've tried two different pizzas and have gone during separate months. Both visits have left me thinking this may actually be some of the worst pizza I've had. I'm not bashing the joint (see my opening statement), but I can can get better pizza at Dominos--and that's pretty sad. The rub: I began eating my pizza the instant it was placed before me. I don't think the pizza should be so thin and/or soggy that it folds over my hand and the toppings slide off--leaving me with a crust... that's now assumed the role of a glove, from harbor freight tools. None of the should happen straight away. I like pizza that's able to be eaten one handed. It's best (for me) if the meats & cheeses don't run away from the crust like its on a bad date. The flavor has been great...both visits/pizzas. I really liked the spicy pizza I had the first time through. The portion size was great. I've only had the personal pizzas, but they're quite filling. I do enjoy their selection of beers, also. The real pluses to this place: -awesome & helpful staff -lots of variety, for a small eatery -great flavor -perfect portions & decently priced All in all though, this is nowhere near the "best" pizza around. I don't understand Pacific Northwest pizza anymore. This place is tasty but not great. It has high quality ingredients but, unfortunately, it lacks in sauce. Why is every pizza I eat on the west coast lacking in sauce? Tomatoes grow great in California! Is it the lack of sunshine that programs the brain over time to want depressing pizza with a dark beer? Everything I've had there is delicious. The paninis are also great. But you will pay for this quality. Beerwise, they have the wall o' beers, but I'm a tap guy, so I haven't been disappointed by their tap selection. The manager most times I've been there is pretty knowledgable on his brews. But again, not exactly cheap. Their waitstaff is usually understaffed and overworked. They're usually doing their best - alone - so I never hold that against them. If you're looking for a cheap beer and good (not gourmet) pizza, save $20 and roll down Wheaton a bit to Cloverleaf. read more

I called ahead the day before because our anniversary celebration had grown from just us two to eight people and a birthday boy. I explained I wanted to know if the preferred the heads up or if we should just come in being a Friday night. I know the get busy. I called when we were half way there from Tacoma to let them know were were still coming and were about 15 to 30 min away. The server who answered the phone was the same from the night before and said thanks and she would try and get tables ready. When we arrived the owner was at the front bar. Let us know it would be a little longer. He did ask a table if they would move over to the next table so he could place the two closer tables together. They did looked like they were getting ready to leave but stayed a while longer. Our server was amazing. When soda or beer was empty there was another one. The artichoke dip is delicious and the pizza out of this world. I had the vegi plus hamburger and my hubby had the BBQ chicken. I always make sure I get the roasted garlic. Its lime candy. We asked the owner if he would ever consider opening up in Tacoma and he said no because he didn't want to complete with his favorite pizza place. So guess I have to go there now. read more

Very tasty, extremely fresh & high quality ingredients! Monday is a great time to go: $3 any tap and $9 pitchers. But if draft isn't your thing they have an amazing selection of bottle and cans. They have a "bar" but this is NOT A BAR. No bar seating, they have tables and ambiance.... don't come expecting stools and TVs. Excellent spot for pizza, especially for a group of four. Just one small caution: The "Please Wait to Be Seated" sign is easy to miss, and you might get some attitude from the staff if you do. read more
