This restaurant did not live up to my previous experiences of the past. Maybe it was COVID, lack of staff, current state of affairs, whatever. Our meals were ok, nothing special. I feel badly because I really enjoyed this place in the past. Hopefully things will get better.

My friend and I went here last night for dinner. It was my first time, but she's been here several…read moretimes and always highly recommends it, so I was excited to finally try it for myself! When I hear the word tavern, I usually think of a bar and restaurant, and most places I've been to have high chairs available. I have an 18-month-old, so that's something I tend to look for when going out to eat. This location is on the smaller side and unfortunately doesn't have high chairs. Honestly, had I known that beforehand, I probably would've chosen somewhere else just because it makes things a little more difficult with a toddler. Thankfully, my little one was well behaved lol. I did feel like some of the other patrons were staring because I had a child with me, which I found a little confusing since it's also a restaurant, but it is what it is! On a positive note, the waitresses were wonderful! They were very nice, attentive, and accommodating. They don't have a kids' menu, but they offered me several different options for my little one, which I appreciated. I ordered the meatloaf with mashed potatoes and green beans, and honestly, it was phenomenal! You could tell the mashed potatoes were homemade, and they were delicious. The green beans were full of flavor, and the meatloaf was really, really good. Everything was cooked well, and I would absolutely order it again. Overall, I really enjoyed the food and the service. I would definitely come back, but next time it'll probably be for a date night with my husband and we'll leave the kiddo at home lol. If you're looking for a good home-cooked-style meal, I'd definitely recommend giving this place a try!

The food was out of this world from the very first course with the homemade hummus pumpkin hummus by the way right straight through to the end of the homemade desserts, etc. it was just amazing. The customer service was impeccable. The girls never let the drinks get too low in your glass. It will be off the cocktail. The water was always filled. They cleaned the plates right away. She weren't waiting. The variety of proof was out of this world. It was a beautiful, beautiful restaurant. Everything was individual rooms quiet but we do other people together. Really felt like you were special cause you were in a separate room and it was decorated so beautifully. The first course was appetizers. We had the fresh pumpkin hummus with homemade pita bread and then we had a calamari dish with some hot sausage in it then they have these beautiful steamed mussels with homemade bread, focaccia bread and it has some nice hetbs and stuff soaking in the broth. Then we had the buffet is started out with some fresh Scully bread, as well as some fresh rolls and butter, and the first part of that was a beautiful assorted salad. That was lovely. I had two of those cause. I can't eat a lot of meat and then. The next dish was a ziti with homemade sauce and then they had a beautiful Parmesan risotto with herbs and the next one was like a Portuguese chicken with vegetables and tomatoes that just fell off the bone it was amazing and then the last dish was a a Portuguese dish of roasted pork with little neck clams the husband I got him that cause he likes that type of thing, but everybody was cooked so beautifully presented wonderfully. I didn't get a chance to take pictures at the beginning, but I did get some during the buffet and then and everything was just impeccable. The desserts were delicious. There was some beautiful custard tarts with fresh fruit, homemade macaroons, brownies, and some petty food type of desserts. But I would definitely go back there for dinner, but I know for a fact while waiting for my friends to come that many people had a very long weight. One couple came in there was only two people the wait was 45 minute wait and then somebody else came in and there was an hour wait I like a party of six people just took it in stride like they must've known this was happening and they took and came back. if I definitely come over again to eat, I would definitely do it under the reservation. I learned that just by sitting there waiting for my friends to come. But everything was definitely an 11 out of 10 I could not have asked for better meal food was just impeccable and everything just went really great.

Since we did not, we were told the only place we could sit was at the bar. We took a seat at the bar, and the bartender was pretty attentive. The menu offered a good variety of food, I decided to go with the meatloaf form their list of Specials. Food didn't take too long to come out, and WOW, their portions are huge. Unfortunately my picture did not come out, and I didn't realize until I had left. It was (2) giant portions of meatloaf with a mountain of mashed potatoes and some mixed veggies, and despite going in hungry, I was only able to eat half. Pricing is a bit high, the atmosphere feels a bit stuffy and lighting at the bar is a bit dim, they definitely cater to an older crowd, but their portions are very generous, and the food was very flavorful. I'd go back again!

They even helped my mom bustle my dress! From the outdoor ceremony overlooking the lake to the reception in their simple and modern event space, Crystal Lake was the prefect backdrop for our beautiful celebration. The food was also a highlight, and guests specifically told me how much they enjoyed their meal. I'm so happy we chose Crystal Lake for our wedding. Crystal Lake is a very popular wedding/event venue and there may be more than one event the week or even weekend of your wedding, so my one tip is to decide early if you want other events your wedding weekend (like your rehearsal dinner) to also be at Crystal Lake so that you can get on their calendar. Thank you to everyone at Crystal Lake for making our wedding day so special.

The building is smallish and located on a corner. A small parking lot is located on busy Hartford Ave, with a building entrance on that side that leads into the first of two bar areas. A larger parking area is located around the corner on Bishop Hill Road. Another two entrances, into the 2nd bar area are accessible from this lot. Also, a huge outdoor seating area, under a tent runs along one side of this parking area. So they have lots of room to enjoy a summer evening outside. We arrived late afternoon between meal times. The bar was full except for two seats. Other than the bar, the tables and booths in this area were empty (the other bar was not staffed at this hour). We like sitting at the bar and talking with the regulars. We learn so much about the area this way. Even in our own state! The majority of our bar-mates and the bartender were very friendly and we had some lively conversations. The building itself is old and much of the original dark wood remains along with a big fireplace. The ladies room is right at the end of the bar, is small and older and everything works. Full bar, beer on tap or in cans and wine. They have a nice bar-food menu. I chose sweet potato fries as my side while my dining companion chose regular fries. Both were good, as were our sandwiches (au jus and Big bird) Good quality and tasty. The booths began to fill as we were leaving and the barkeep was also their waitress, so she has a big area to cover. The regulars are very well known to each other and the staff so if you sit at the bar you may feel like the 'odd man out'. We enjoyed our visit and plan to return to try some of their other food offerings.

I can't say enough good things about the chicken parm Tuesdays. The portion is big enough to share and the price is great - $10 for red sauce and $12 for vodka sauce (my favorite). The pizzas are also really good and there are some unusual toppings. For example, The Texan pizza has bbq sauce, chicken, bacon, and onion rings. We love sitting near the wood stove - so toasty warm and cozy. Our go-to place and you can find us there at least once a week!
