Fried whole belly clams

This restaurant did not live up to my previous experiences of the past. Maybe it was COVID, lack of staff, current state of affairs, whatever. Our meals were ok, nothing special. I feel badly because I really enjoyed this place in the past. Hopefully things will get better.

First time here and I'd come back! It was excellent! We had the baked scallops, baked haddock with lobster and seafood scampi!

Great food, especially the lobster. Quant colonial dining room. Plenty of parking in the back. Tavern is a pleasant place to wait too.

Cady's Tavern - A little history lesson...

Cady's Tavern

I visited as part of #RIFoodFights #LordoftheWings competition and this was my first time ever…read morehere. Set up as a biker friendly roadside bar and certainly look the part. Visited on a Saturday afternoon and was impressed by the amount of beers they had on tap and selection of local craft options. I tasted the barbecue wings and they were solid. My only negative for them would be they charged me extra for my side of ranch sauce ($.50). But I'll say that's outweighed by how cheap the beer prices are there, so overall net positive bonus points!! it's pretty far away from where I live, but wouldn't hesitate to go there again if I was ever in the area.

Unfortunately the day has come for my first ever 1-star review…read more A few weeks ago, I arrived (so hungry) at Cady's Tavern with a group of friends (also so hungry) for a quick bite to eat. At the door, we were stopped immediately & asked "do you have tickets" with no explanation to which we answered no. We were then told that the show inside was a ticketed show & therefore we couldn't come in. We explained that we were just there for dinner. The door person said we could order food out on the patio if we insisted, accidentally hitting me in the face as she was gesturing. So we maneuvered our way through the busy bar to the patio out back to scope out the scene. There were a few available picnic tables, so my group claimed one of them as I headed to the bar. I asked the bartender "can we order food here with you?" to which she answered yes, while eyeing me up & down. I asked for a few menus & 4 glasses of water for my group. The bartender instead gave me 4 bottles of water. Ugh. Back at our picnic table, I remarked out loud to my group "do I have something on my face?" because from the moment we entered the tavern, I felt like everyone (both staff & patrons) was examining me like a bug under a microscope. We fell into hangry silence as we checked out the menu & I noticed immediately that there were no allergy markings anywhere on the menu. I can't have gluten. It makes me very sick. I'm not happy about that - believe me! One of the greatest tragedies of my life was learning that I couldn't drink beer anymore. The menu is mostly pub classics & I really wanted a burger (I saw recently that Cady's Tavern was listed on a Yelp Collection for great burgers in the state). The menu said to "advise" my server of "any food allergies" & so I returned to the bar to ask about gluten-free accommodations. I explained the situation & asked very politely if there was anything they could do so that I could have the burger. I really miss being low-maintenance, but I know (having worked in the service industry for 15 years) that major changes are happening surrounding allergy awareness & accommodations. I've had burgers on lettuce "buns," burgers without buns, burgers on gluten-free buns, & other creative modifications at the most unlikely of places. So when I politely asked the bartender if they could modify the order because of my situation, she reacted like I had asked her the most outlandish question imaginable. She looked me up & down again, let out a rude "pffft" & said, "we don't do that kind of stuff here." I said "oh, okay" & walked away. I was shocked. I relayed the interaction to my group & we decided that we had no interest in ordering food. We paid for our bottles of water (UGH!) at $2 each & made our way back through the stuffy bar & out to the (unpaved) parking lot. The feeling that Cady's Tavern gave me was really horrible. The covert judgement, the overt impudence, & the implications on food safety & allergy awareness left me with a pit in my stomach. I always try to give businesses & their employees the benefit of the doubt when things go awry, but I don't think I can do that here.

Friday Night.... Blue Hair weekly Dinner with my friends and a Fire-Pit ending…read more I know a little about Food and I have to say on the word of my friend Victor he suggested the "Village Tavern" on Route 6! I have to say it's a local watering hole but, it's quaint and comfortably laid out! The menu is Strong with a wonderful variety of dynamic offerings. I have to admit the Bean and Sausage and soup was spectacular( definitely a Fall/ Winter winner) the Drink: high end Single Malt Scotch was substantial pour( to say the least) and the Side Caesar salad was exceptional and ample size for what accompanied the dinner. That, was their 10 ounce tenderloin, perfect medium rare with a cognac cream sauce. Sides were, exceptional Rich mashed potatoes and the best way I've ever had brussels sprouts, which were mandolin sliced. That's my Review and Dana was an extremely pleasant and attentive to not only us but, to the all her other tables. Highly Recommended for a surprisingly Great Dinner and probably Lunch( awesome sounding sandwiches etc!) and... extremely reasonable for these Trying Times

Service was excellent but the FOOD was fantastic. I had the best Steak Sandwich I've ever had. Perfectly cooked. My wife had Mediterranean Pizza, she loved it. Prices were reasonable.

My boyfriend always would comment that he wanted to go there. His birthday came up and we decided to go and bring both sets of parents. We had a GREAT meal. It has improved. I previously thought it was pretty flavorless food that I could technically make at home (example: Steak tips, rice pilaf, and a veggie), but now I feel like it stepped up its game. We started with Portuguese style calamari and shrimp and goat cheese. I ordered a seafood and rice dish off of the seafood portion of the menu. I can't find the exact dish online on their menu. It was absolutely delicious. The service was great. The ambiance was great. We can't wait to go back for the next birthday celebration!

We were not disappointed with the food. We had stuffies as an app: very good with Portuguese sausage. I had the fish tacos which were excellent with big pieces of fish and plenty of fries. Awesome mango corn salsa. My love had a chicken and pasta entree called Princess chicken and he loved it. Again large portion and well plated. Food is definitely the stand out here. Service was unenthusiastic and not good about refilling water or checking in on us. I would have ordered a second glass of wine if anyone bothered to ask but it was difficult just getting our water refilled. At one point I busted out my water bottle from our hike earlier in the day and drank it instead because no one was around to provide water. Would recommend based on food and atmosphere but they could do with some improvement in service.

I went to order the spiked Mango Seltzer (not a flavor option you see often, I was happy to see this!), but then saw a bottle of lavender syrup next to where she was grabbing to mango and asked if I could get a lavender seltzer instead. I'm a bit of a lavender addict so whenever I see it, I NEED to get it. The bartender warned it could be a little light, but I went ahead with ordering it anyway. It was delicious! The color was light but the flavor was not. I was surprised to learn they have a full food menu here. My chicken was paper thin and it was very bland. Bun to meat ratio was off. No sauce or any kind of aioli to add some depth and moisture. I can't say enough good things about the chicken parm Tuesdays. The portion is big enough to share and the price is great - $10 for red sauce and $12 for vodka sauce (my favorite). The building is smallish and located on a corner. A small parking lot is located on busy Hartford Ave, with a building entrance on that side that leads into the first of two bar areas. A larger parking area is located around the corner on Bishop Hill Road. Another two entrances, into the 2nd bar area are accessible from this lot. Also, a huge outdoor seating area, under a tent runs along one side of this parking area. So they have lots of room to enjoy a summer evening outside. We arrived late afternoon between meal times. The bar was full except for two seats. Other than the bar, the tables and booths in this area were empty (the other bar was not staffed at this hour). We like sitting at the bar and talking with the regulars. We learn so much about the area this way. Even in our own state! The majority of our bar-mates and the bartender were very friendly and we had some lively conversations. The building itself is old and much of the original dark wood remains along with a big fireplace. The ladies room is right at the end of the bar, is small and older and everything works. Full bar, beer on tap or in cans and wine. They have a nice bar-food menu. I chose sweet potato fries as my side while my dining companion chose regular fries. Both were good, as were our sandwiches (au jus and Big bird) Good quality and tasty. The booths began to fill as we were leaving and the barkeep was also their waitress, so she has a big area to cover. The regulars are very well known to each other and the staff so if you sit at the bar you may feel like the 'odd man out'. We enjoyed our visit and plan to return to try some of their other food offerings.
