Stayed last week and had a few meals at the Tap Room, plus met a friend at the bar. Breakfast was fresh and well prepared on both days, quick enough that I was able to eat before my flight which was a big win on a frantic travel day. For dinner I had a salad with chicken and they let my friend and I linger and catch up for a while after eating without rushing us out the door so a big plus for that accommodation. Time at the bar was very nice, my friend had a delicious cocktail and I prefer to avoid alcohol so their list of mocktails was much appreciated, I had a fun drink with pear juice and liked it. read more

Outstanding! The restaurant is located inside the The Historic Bethlehem Hotel. The food is wonderful and cooked to perfection. I had the Surf and Turf. An 8oz filet mignon with an entire lobster tail, served with drawn butter, fingerling potatoes, baby carrots, asparagus and baby turnips. I asked for raw horseradish which they had!!! Yay! My meal was devine. The best part- the service. I had a wonderful server who was very enthusiastic about the food here. He guided me what to order and was overall just very pleasant. We ate lunch here today. The Hotel has two basic restaurants, this one and a more elegant one upstairs, as well as numerous banquet rooms and facilities. Lunch here was superb. Service was fast friendly and efficient. The coffee was excellent and served in a generous mug. Water was refreshed regularly. My wife had a beet salad appetizer, which I also tried, which was fresh & superb. My garden salad topped with grilled chicken was excellent. The tomatoes & cucumbers were very fresh and so was the lettuce. The chicken was good. My wife had a plate of mussels--also good. The restaurant itself has an excellent appearance and buildout. We love sitting at the bar having cocktails and some delicious food. We like to watch and talk with Spiros, one fantastic bartender. He made a chocolate bourbon cocktail featuring a chocolate bourbon liqueur distilled in Allentown. I purchased that bourbon and would love to know how Spiros created that wonderful cocktail so that i can enjoy it at home before I return once again to enjoy wonderful food and drink in the luxurious ambiance of the taproom and restaurant. The Christmas decorations throughout the hotel are beautiful and are awesome to behold. We are also looking forward to enjoying Sunday Brunch very soon. Made a reservation for lunch on a Tuesday (um...not necessary). I always expect more from this place and always get less. Apart from the "charm" and "grandeur" of the hotel, the food and service is absolutely nothing special. On this particular trip, the most memorable part of the lunch was the number of flies in the dining room. I was swatting flies and watching others do the same the whole time. I think there were more flies inside than outside. Regarding the actual food, I had the Mac and cheese. You can have the same at home for a 1/4 of the price. Great, relaxing ambiance. We go frequently for Breakfast. The Hotel B Breakfast is our favorite. You get a ton of food, including eggs, bacon or sausage, potatoes, toast, and endless cups of coffee. Everything tastes delicious and we've gone back many times. On the walls are pictures of famous people in all categories. Looking at them is so enjoyable. Go there! read more

The Hotel Bethlehem is such a beautiful, historic building. There are always weddings and other events happening and it's a lovely area as well. The Tap Room is the small restaurant in the front of the building overlooking Main Street, and I think because of the grandeur of the building and historic aspect, I aspected greatness from The Tap Room. However, I found the menu to be overpriced and somewhat small. I've been for dinner and for lunch and I probably wouldn't go back again unfortunately. read more

I am very disappointed with this restaurant. This is a local legendary landmark that everybody from Bethlehem knows about. It seems like the big, red Hotel Bethlehem sign is visible from ever corner you turn. I had high hopes for this place but I can't be bias when it comes to how good the food is or isn't. This place is so beautiful! The inside dinning area is very elegant and romantic, a great place for a first date. I ordered The B Burger and it was cooked very well. It was very meaty and juicy but it lacked flavor. My partner had the Mac and Cheese and it was OK. I read a review on another site it it read " the best this is was the coleslaw " which is my same sentiment. The slaw was great. Best slaw I ever had. But I don't come to nice restaurants to eat coleslaw. For the amount of money spent here everything should have been as good as the coleslaw. I don't appreciate the 20% gratuity automatically added to the bill. What if I didn't like the service and didn't want to give 20%? Luckily though, we had a very good waitress. She was awesome and she made us laugh. All in all I want to come back to this place. I don't want to give up on it. I have hope for it. read more

Went for Mother's Day brunch and was shocked at mediocre food and service. My family was seated in between the bar and hostess stand despite having made reservations way in advance. When I requested another table in main area that was empty, I was told they were for other reservations??? So odd. The food ran out, fresh berries and other items were not replenished so out of luck there. The presentations that were offered were on par with cafeteria food and variety did not match price point. I honestly can't remember a time where I felt more ripped off. We will not be back. Go elsewhere. read more

Bottom line: come for the ambiance & history, don't stay for the food. Not that anything was bad, per se. Just uninspired. The historical hotel is gorgeous and there's plenty to look at, beautiful ballrooms to sneak into and check out what's what, tastefully decorated with nice carpeting, wood paneling, floor to ceiling mirrors, antique light fixtures, and of course, the impressive marble staircases. But this is definitely the type of place you'd host a bridal party or a wedding, not necessarily the best place to grab a casual lunch on a Saturday afternoon. I got the mahi mahi sandwich and fries and my cousin got the house salad with salmon. Her salmon was fresh and tasty, as was my mahi, but the bun couldn't hold up to the two creams too many: smashed avocado crema on the bottom bun, dill crème fraîche on the top. The flavors were on point, but texturally it was like biting into guacamole. Just way too mushy. The fries were crispy and tasty, but definitely more akin to beer battered pizzeria type as opposed to a nice handcut shoestring variety which I think would make more sense at a place of this caliber. Regardless, for two meals and a prosecco, it came to exactly $40 which isn't terrible but also a tad overpriced, I would say. Next time, I'd grab lunch at the many other eateries on the main strip and opt for drinks and bar snacks at the tap room. read more

I hate to leave a bad review but this was a very disappointing experience. 20min to take our drink order. Then bread provided 20min later with no plates and still no drinks. Then 20min later still no drinks provided or food order taken. So we had to walk up and find the waiter and ask to leave. He then tried to tell us our drinks were ready so we couldn't leave. But then I walked to the bar and nothing was there so he let us leave after I told him this. We were there for an hour overall and only had a glass of water. What a shame. Lovely spot for a business lunch. Attentive servers and a nice variety of food. Highly recommend the cauliflower crust flatbread: fresh ingredients and it's enough for two meals. My colleague had the lobster roll sandwich and said it was delicious. Prices aren't cheap ($31 for the lobster roll!) but we were very satisfied with our meal. read more

The ambiance was nice. Great view of Main Street. The food: I ordered the braised beef ribs. At first glance they look to die for. They are tender. However they lack flavor and seasoning. The risotto could have benefited from a little salt, Parmesan cheese and needs to cook a little longer--weird crunchy gooey texture. It could have been oatmeal. There was no flavor, so I can't tell. $28 should have afforded me some salt and fresh herbs. I took a chance and ordered the financier, which is a brown butter pound cake with vanilla ice cream. Thinking to myself "how can they mess this up?" I took the dessert to my room...big mistake. It was dry and I'm out of water. But the jazz band was nice. Breakfast is also inconsistent. Toasted dark means dark or so I thought. Some days the bacon is thick. Other days it's pork shavings. read more

There were 2 women working and one man who I assumed was the manager. It was awkward but we were finally greeted and taken to our table. This place is inside the historic Hotel Bethlehem and feels somewhat like you're eating in the lobby. Waiter was friendly and fast. Drinks were delicious. Food was just okay. I got a filet mignon and my boyfriend got the strip steak. He didn't like the taste of the sauce on his steak. My steak was a little over cooked and just bland. The potatoes that came with it were delicious. Overall it's a neat place in a cool location. The food was just okay. I likely would not return here because I think we could get better food for a similar price point. I would however return to have a drink at the bar and to enjoy the ambiance of the hotel. read more

My family, my dad, and I enjoyed dinner outside at the Tap Room at the Hotel Bethlehem on a wonderfully temperate Friday evening. There was great jazz music playing, the seats are comfortable and the overall outside vibe was very nice. The food was solid. We had a cheese board for an appetizer. The figs, cheese, and accompanying items were great. We also had a Manhattan seafood soup which was rich and flavorful. For entrees our table had mussels, the mushroom flatbread, burger, chicken Caesar, kids pasta, and kids pizza. Everything was well prepared and tasted great. The service was good all things considered. We were happy with everything and look forward to spending another night outside on Main Street in the near future. read more

S-L-O-W That describes this place to a tee. Even with a reservation through opentable.com we had to wait to to be acknowledged at the hostess table. Then after being seated another wait of almost ten minutes to have our drink order taken. Then another loooong wait to have our actual order taken. So we're almost here for half an hour and all we've done is get drinks and place our food order. This sucks. We both order soup and eventually it does come and it was not worth the wait. The French Onion was cheesy enough but the broth was very creamy tasting instead of having more of the usual beef stock flavor. The lobster bisque was also horribly creamy. I mean creamy to the point of tasting like heavy cream. Yick! The Burger and Ham and Turkey Club were both OK but the wait again was extreme and our server "A" enjoyed disappearing for very long stretches only to come back once to say that because the burger was ordered well done it would "be a while". When it was all said and done it took almost an hour and fifty minutes for food that would have taken an hour to have at a Red Robin and would have at worst tasted the same and sure as hell would have been cheaper. The lobby area itself is nice but good luck hearing anyone or anything as a wedding reception was going on at the time and the front doors to the Ballroom are located almost right over top of The Tap Room so you know it's bad when your server has to repeat three times if you want the check because she can't yell it loud enough over the karaoke version of "Boogie Oogie Oogie" that was being blared by the band. Short of someone paying for me to go back I couldn't imagine doing it as the food is very average and the service is very pretentious and very, very slow. read more

This place uses fresh farm-to-table ingredients, and you can definitely taste the difference! Smooth , silky goodness - mmm. It appears really small in comparison to the large plate, but this breakfast filled me up for at least half a day! It was so incredibly rich and creamy. The hash browns are perfectly crisp. No complaints! This is also one of the only places in the area that opens early at 6am for breakfast. Other nearby places open around 7am, 8am, 10am. Service is great. The place is clean. I sat next to the window and had a nice view of giant spiders - oh and the outdoor scenery. The sun rises really quick in this area! read more

One of my two go-to places in dt Bethlehem. Atmosphere is lovely, very vintage 1920s. High class without being stuffy. The Bar/restaurant area is large and inviting. It's not too loud either, very warm. Food is always good, drinks are excellent. I've been coming here for years and never had anything bad. Staff is great, very hard-working. Only criticism would be to avoid it during the holidays and musicfest. While it's lovely around Christmas time, there's just too many boorish visitors. Overall exceptional, and a must-do if you're in town. read more

Had lunch here after a Bach at Noon Concert. The atmosphere and service were terrific. Such a lovely historic landmark. My only negative comment is that I had the Beet Salad...which was not really a salad at all. Just some sliced golden and red beets with a little bit of "micro arugala"???? We recently went here for a mother's day dinner and we were pleasantly surprised with the excellent food. I had a portabella mushroom steak which was absolutely amazing. My sister and my mom both had salads that they raved about as well. We all had some sort of crab chowder soup that was the special of the day and it was absolutely delightful. Nothing we had here was even mediocre. It was all excellent. I really hope I can replicate that portabella mushroom steak at home but we will see if I can do it justice. The atmosphere was relaxed even though there was a wedding and another event going on the building. It's nice to just be downtown in the historic area of bethlehem to walk around after dinner. We will definitely be back again and hopefully we will save room for some ice cream from the creamery downstairs. read more

Checked into the Hotel Bethlehem just before 9 p.m. last Thursday night after a 4 hour drive from CT. After checking out this great looking and hopping lobby spot, we were thrilled to learn that they served dinner until 10 p.m. We brought our luggage up to our room and came down and got a great window seat overlooking beautifully lit up Main Street. Madeline was our terrific waitress and recommended the special that night of an heirloom pork chop ($30.00). Joyce and I both got one and they were superbly prepared with a delightful glaze perched on a bed of pureed sweet potatoes - just what two famished parents bringing their son to Lafayette for a baseball visit needed (hotel discounts 10% off room rates for Lafayette parents by the way - nice touch). We started off with 2 Ketel One martinis, expertly made with great olives ($12) and added a kick butt bottle of Rodney Strong cab ($52) and, afterwards, we lingered soaking up the vibe of what has to be the place to be in Bethlehem. Food, ambiance and Madeline were so good we ate there again on Friday night, Madeline again serving, same table, same martinis to start, fried oysters with Napa slaw for me ($11) and they were awesome. Joyce had a shrimp cocktail, 3 colossal fresh and plump bombs ($19). We split a house salad ($7) and each had a Prime Strip ($46) in a cabernet demi-glace that was really, really good - and that's coming from steakhouse lovers, together with the Rodney Strong cab. Two terrific dinners. We had a great breakfast there on Saturday morning with seriously good coffee. I had the Classic Eggs Benedict ($13) and it was one of the best versions I've had in recent memory - great slivered hash browns, too. Joyce went with the Hotel Breakfast ($16) which includes coffee, juice, eggs to order, toast and a side of bacon, sausage or ham - she went sausage with scrambled eggs and sourdough and was quite happy. The drink was unremarkable and the bartender not friendly. For dinner I had oysters on the half shell as an appetizer from the happy hour menu which were graciously priced at one dollar apiece. They were fantastic and a bargain. I ordered the lobster roll for the main course and it was average at best. Next time, I want to try the Terrace restaurant which is a step above. My server was very gracious, I enjoyed the atmosphere, and the food was reasonably priced for such a nice hotel. read more

This restaurant has probably the worst service I've experienced for an establishment supposedly ranked 3rd in the nation. We ordered appetizers that took almost 45 min to come out. We asked for bread, and were told that they were out, but "there was some stale bread a party sent back." At this point, we spoke to the manager who gave us a free appetizer. The appetizers finally came, and were delicious. The food is really good here, and the cooks should be hired elsewhere by a restaurant that cares about customers. After we finished appetizers, the empty plates sat on the table for a half hour. We were never asked if we wanted more drinks. We weren't even offered more water. The service is so bad that I'm writing the review before we get our check. Do not eat at this restaurant. Update: we received our check and it was wrong. read more

Best buffet brunch I've had in a long time. $27, but you get all the OJ (really good), coffee, tea, food you want. Cooked to order omelets, prime rib, ham, many different kinds of fish, french toast, waffles, awesome bacon/sausage, lunch items, jumbo cocktail shrimp, desserts...I can go on and on. My husband and I visited during our stay at the Hotel Bethlehem. He had already eaten dinner, so he enjoyed the panna cotta while I had the French onion soup and macaroni & cheese. We both had coffee. The Mac & cheese comes with your choice of soup or salad. I was able to pay a few extra dollars to get the French onion. The French onion soup was one of the best I've tried. My husband's panna cotta was truly special. It was served with a raspberry sorbet, rhubarb compote and topped with toasted pistachios. It was one of the highlights of our entire week here. The Mac & cheese was a complete disappointment. It was described as having gruyère and mascarpone cheeses with an option of adding lobster. Base cost was $15. Add lobster for an additional $14. I was expecting some really good Mac & cheese. It came out and looked like pain noodles in a bowl and tasted just as bland. This was something I would have ordered for an extremely picky child. It was the worst Mac & cheese I have ever ordered. Oh, and the coffee was good but nothing great. I would recommend The Tap Room to others, but strongly warn against the Mac & cheese. If I ate here again, I would definitely have the French onion soup and just go straight to dessert from there. read more
