Pork Dumplings (6)
Lynn N.

I came here with a friend for lunch, and unfortunately we did not get the best service nor food. We were immediately seated as the space was empty, and placed our order soon after. The Ma Jiang Mian came quick, but it lacked flavor and the chicken was dry. The sauce did not add much, and I expected more. We also ordered pork dumplings, but it took about twenty five minutes to come out. Insanely long considering we were the only customers at that time. The dumplings were good, overall. The server also took a while to get our bill, and we had to call him over multiple times.

Braised Beef Noodles Soup

Upscale restaurant with classic Chinese dishes. While slightly cramped, it's got more seating than expected; not ideal for parties but fine for a date night. We didn't have to wait for a seat, even without a reservation. Prices vary from $10-25 for appetizers and entrees, respectively. Ordered the beef braised noodles, cucumber salad, chicken wings, and mashed potato rice noodle. Everything seemed slightly elevated and looked great. Wings and cucumber salad weren't bad but also nothing special. I liked the beef braised noodles; the meat was tender and the broth was subtle, though a bit too unctuous. The mashed rice noodle was surprisingly good, though I'm not sure I'd ever order it again. Everything was on the spicy side, as a warning. Though I'm not sure if I'd come back, I would recommend giving this place a try. The "wok hay" is real here.

Pork Dumplings in Chili Oil (6)

Such an amazing place! Came here for dinner and the server was sooo sweet and attentive. We started with the dumplings in chili oil which were delicious. I got the beef soup noodles and the beef literally melted in my mouth. My boyfriend got the drunken noodles and that was equally as amazing. Super huge portions and decent prices too. Then we shared the sizzling noodles and they were amazing too! Seriously no misses. We then ended with the minion custard buns and we agreed it was one of the best desserts we had in a long time. Really loved this place and would love to come back to try some of the other dishes!

Came by on a summer weeknight. Was a pretty calm & welcoming space. Staff was attentive so no complaints there. Food was delicious! The dessert surprised me. I'm not usually a sweets person but this was great. Can't wait to come back!

The Tang is a cozy, contemporary eatery serving creative Chinese noodles and other classic plates on the Upper West Side. It's nice for a date or dinner with a friend. We had such a great meal from the Braised Beef Noodle Soup to the Zhong Dumplings and Tang's Bliss Chicken Wings... So delicious!!

We found the Tang on Pulsd and HOLY MOLY! We've gone at least 10 times in the last 2 months. The food, service, ambiance - simply outstanding. The chicken noodle soup and Dan Dan are our go to and I could literally eat here every day.

Bar seat with views of the kitchen
Christine N.

First Impressions- found this spot on yelp with the hubby and spontaneously changed our minds from take out to eating out. Glad we did because this spot is super cute. Loved the bar seating with the glass front that allowed us views of the kitchen. I always love watching food being prepared... and bonus is we got to see how how clean and orderly the kitchen is. Always a plus since a well kept kitchen means less chance of food poisoning! The Noms: Boneless chicken thighs - served cold... but I didn't see it noted in the menu, the hubby and I expected it to be hot so it was a bit disappointing Fried pork and chive dumplings - delicious, but same as we can make at home so nothing to write home about, the chili oil that it came with mixed with soy sauce made these dumpling FIRE though! Dan Dan noodles - maybe I'm used to the Dan Dan noodles from Han Dynasty... so I was a little disappointed that these were a bit on the dry side. In Conclusion - this is a lovely spot, good for a first date since views of the kitchen will provide good conversation starters. Some of our neighboring diners ordered some bomb looking food so I'd be down to try this spot again in the future.

Sichuan spicy chicken

Come to once because saw some good reviews. But it's a not real Chinese food,it's America style Chinese food. I order two dish, one is cold noodle. It's so disappointing, super dry and hard. And Tasteless. I order another one is call Sichuan spicy chicken, it's a in big plate section, but it's not big enough. The chicken is small and dry and more like popcorn chicken.never come back.

Stir-fried Chinese Chive with Pork 台式苍蝇头 $19

I was lucky enough to be treated here by a friend for dinner. We got a whole bunch of things, but my favorites were the apple sidra (this was basically like an apple soda) and the Stir-Fried Rice Noodles with Petai (this was essentially a beef chow fun). Everything else was kind of mid. The braised beef noodle soup was too salty and the stir fried Chinese chives with pork was NOT at all like what I expected we'd get lol. The latter probably would've been better paired with white rice, which my friend took leftovers home to probably pair it with. Service was really good, but overall I don't see myself coming here often. Perhaps I would order the stir fried rice noodles for online delivery, but not sure I would come back unless maybe my Chinese parents were visiting and I needed a close ish Chinese restaurant lol. Then this will do!

Drunk Noodles

The Tang serves a variety of contemporary Chinese food including noodle soups and tasty plates like tiger prawns and dumplings. Vibe is very nice too, great for a catchup with a friend. We ordered: Braised beef noodle soup Drunk noodles Fried tiger prawn w/ salted egg yolk Salt + pepper pork ribs Pork dumplings in chili oil Yuzu beer Plum apple wine My favorites of all the dishes were the jumbo salted egg prawns - so juicy and so much flavor! The drunk noodles had a half-soup broth that was worth getting again. This whole meal was honestly so comforting :)

The Tang ( @thetangnyc ) | 920 Amsterdam Ave NY NY 10025 . The Tang is a cozy Chinese sit-down restaurant located in the Upper West Side of Manhattan. It's a local restaurant known for its #noodles . I absolutely loved the small plate options here. I know I typically go for dumplings but I wanted to feature their other menu items because they were just as delicious. I was blown away by the fried tiger prawns. So delicate, so flavorful and the right portion for 2 people. The service is super quick. We ordered and most of our food came out instantly. I'm also a fan of seeing my food being prepared. It's an open kitchen layout. They also have happy hour cocktails, sake, and beer. . Here's a look at what we ate: Pan-Fried Turnip Cake Taiwanese Sausage w/ garlic, pickle veggie + purple rice Fried Tiger Prawn With Salted Egg Yolk Braised Beef Noodles Soup Ma Jiang Mian: House-made sesame paste topped with shredded chicken thigh, sliced cucumber, sliced carrot, salted mustard, and House-made chili oil

Well not bad, not very good either. Average Chinese food. We only ordered the take out and we may order again in future.

I wish the sauce was sweeter though since the flavor was more j spicy/ salty. I think a different sauce like a hoisin chili combo would make the dish a lot tastier. I did not expect to find a sit down Cantonese & Sichuan Restaurant in the heart of Herald Square…read more For sure a hidden gem worth trying. Came here with two other friends for dinner and we pigged out. We started off with Scallion Pancake with Shredded Duck ($15), which tasted amazing. The pancake was flaky and not overly soaked in oil, while the duck meat enhanced the taste. I think everything should order this for the table. We also got the Dan Dan Noodles w Minced Pork ($8), which is a staple dish in Sichuan cuisine. Make sure you stir the bowl to mix the sauce and minced pork. For veggies, we got the Sautéed Green Beans With Eggplant ($18), which tasted great. I usually get sautéed pea shoots for a veggie dish, but this was worth ordering as the eggplant tasted great along with the green beans. For entrees, we got the Spicy Green Pepper Fish Filet ($28 for filet). A classic Cantonese dish that comes with bok choy, so it turns out I didn't really need to order a veggie dish. Delicious. We also tried the OOHU Mao Xue Wang ($34), which may be one of the most spiciest dish available on the menu. This dish combines blood curd from a duck, tripe, and chicken gizzards along with other organs into a simmered broth containing chilis and peppercorns. They also use spam, vermicelli noodles, mushroom, and other things. If you're adventurous and you like spicy, I would recommend this. Best eaten with a cup of rice. Service is great as our server made good recommends and was overall friendly. They also have a party room you can book, which sounded pretty affordable. Don't recall what their minimum spend was, but it was super reasonable compared to a lot of other spots in Chinatown and Flushing.

We ordered multiple dishes which came out one after the other. Some of the standouts for me were the Pork Intestine Dry Pot ($20.95), Crispy Tofu with Salty Egg Yolk ($23.95), and Sauteed String Beans ($16.95). Many spicy food options since this is a Szechuan spot afterall. Some dishes were a bit too salty and spicy, which they did discount after we brought it to their attention. Overall, decent spot and good for large groups. Otherwise, I didn't find this spot to be too memorable (not bad, not great).

I was told that it isn't always open, but if it was, I could certainly have a table there. When we arrived on the night of our dinner, I asked about the back room and was told that it was closed. And indeed, there was a rope up separating it from the front dining room. There was a table of people sitting there, but I was told that was management having a meeting. I asked when the room might be opened because we were willing to wait. I was told that there was no way for them to know. The front room was already full, by the way, except for the table that we seated at. Within 10 minutes, the back room opened and people started to go in. When I asked about this, I was told that it was a private party. About a half hour later I got up to use the restroom and had a look in the back. They were people seated at tables all around the room. It was obvious that none of them knew each other. It wasn't a private party. I didn't bother to ask about this because at that point appetizers had arrived and it was too late to move to another table. I was very baffled by the staff's reluctance to seat us at a requested table, which would've been very easy to do. As a result, I don't think I'll be coming back to Chi or recommending it to friends. I wrote to them about the experience, hoping for a possible explanation. Over a week has gone by and I've gotten no response. I'm done with these folks.
