I walked into this restaurant after doing the Yelp Elite Week experience at Salt and Straw. I got a seat at the bar. The place was packed on a beautiful Friday evening. I was not too hungry but I did not want to eat late. I had the homemade ginger ale which was refreshing and relatively large and pretty! I wanted to ordered the entire dumplings menu but I had settled for two types of dumplings. Pac-Man Shrimp Dumplings - four shrimp dumplings where each dumpling had a shrimp with a different filling. One of the dumplings had a lobster filling which I requested to have substituted with a different filling. This dish ultimately had two shrimp dumplings mixed with bamboo shoots, one shrimp dumpling mixed with mushroom and one shrimp dumpling mixed with king crab. Another fun addition to the dish was a sweet potato tempura that resembled Pac Man dipped in guacamole. The steamed shrimp dumplings were well made definitely elevated with lots of fresh fillings. Definitely worth ordering. I also ordered the fried oxtail dumplings which were amazing and freshly made. Another dish worth trying especially that there are not many oxtail dumplings in NYC restaurants (at least not to my knowledge). I'd definitely return to try other items on the menu. read more

Redfarm has become a special occasion restaurant for us. While we've never seen them *not busy*, it's also not difficult to find a "day of" reservation. Last night, a Saturday, we came in for an anniversary celebratory dinner at what has become one of our favorite NYC spots: Redfarm has simply elevated Chinese takeout foods and dim sum to an upscale dining experience. This was our third visit overall, and the second to the upper west side location, and we've consistently been provided great food, drinks, and service. Drinks: Le Club hot - spicy cucumber margarita, made balanced and perfectly, hands-down a favorite Wet & Sandia - like a watermelon mojito but made with tequila, a bit on the sweeter side Food: (favorites) Hot & Sour Soup with Shrimp - so, so good. The soup is filled to the brim with mushrooms and hot sour soup goodness, and the broth is full of flavor that you'll be wanting every last drop. Filet mignon and broccoli - an upscale take on beef and broccoli , with meat that is nicely cooked but tender and overall delicious Udon noodles with grilled short ribs - tender, flavorful bone-in short ribs in a hefty portion of delicious udon noodles and vegetables Jumbo shrimp and cashews, XO sauce - also loved this one, portions are large, plenty of cashews and vegetables in a well done light sauce and six jumbo shrimp While you can't go wrong with any of the dumplings, we enjoyed the pan fried pork buns, the pan-fried shrimp, corn, and chive dumplings, and the pork and crab soup dumplings. Of the three, the soup dumplings were our favorite and we'd definitely get them again. Desserts: Ice cream sandwich - while they look small in photos, and have a mundane name, we loved the various ice cream in the dish and all four flavors were well made. Truly delectable. Key lime pie slice - RedFarm sent us this for our celebratory dinner - as normally key lime pie is not on our radar. Served with a scoop of lemon sorbet, this was solid and hit all the right spots. With a cute farmhouse vibe and overall great service from the entire team (they all work together seamlessly) - keep RedFarm on your shortlist when you want Chinese food and want to kick it up a notch. It's not an inexpensive meal by any means, but worth a stop for sure. Easily one of the best experiences we've had in the city. I have dietary restrictions. We brought a six-month-old in a stroller. We were well taken care of before, during, and after our meal. The manager checked and double-checked to make sure I would be able to have a meal that worked with my diet. They maneuvered getting us a spot where our stroller could be table side. All of this took effort, but it looked effortless. Then there was the meal itself: An amazing pastrami egg roll, fantastic soup dumplings, and really great sweet and sour chicken. All arrived quickly, tasted great, and was reasonably-priced (at least, by UWS standards.) Our waiter was attentive but low-key. The setting was hip, but I also saw a few other families around. Thought this place was amazing!! Had a cute farm theme and had warm, friendly vibes. Our server was not very engaged with us but there were lots of servers around so it was fine. The food was delicious! The ribs to start and special dumplings (shrimp, corn, and chive) were great. The ribs were a little overdone but had amazing flavor. The wide noodles with duck was also good - the crispy duck was amaziiiiing, but the noodles were a little chopped up. The crispy sweet and sour mango chicken was delicious! Red Farm reminds me of another restaurant that is dear to my heart, Birds of a feather. But Red Farm honestly may even top that! It's a cozy restaurant, literally decorated like a little farm. I love the red checkered linen splattered everywhere. The staff are very warm and friendly, and let me say very very attentive, maybe too attentive lol, but I loved it! We ordered a bunch of things, though a lot of things were not available on the menu: pastrami eggrolls, oxtail dumplings, applewood smoked bacon egg fried rice, scallion pancakes, pork belly, and the green beans and brussel sprouts. Everything like I said was BOMB! My favorites had to be the oxtail dumplings and the pork belly was cooked to absolute perfection. All of this was about 150, so not horrible especially if you come with a group. Food comes as it's prepared, but comes out pretty quick. I will say that everything is HOT! Don't burn yourself lol! I have eaten here a few times. Ambiance decor is very nice. Typical New York City seating, very tight and tables are close together. The wait staff is friendly and helpful. The food is very tasty and colorful with a great presentation. The prices are very high for the small portions that are served. We had three dishes, shrimp pea pods dumpling, veggies spring rolls and the veggie dumpling. We passed on dessert. read more

Very good! In a city full of Chinese spots it's always tough to find the best of the best. RedFarm was very good! We had the scallion pancakes, Pac-Man dumplings, sea bass, and rice cake with pork belly. The rice cakes with pork belly and the sea bass were the best of the lot while the rest were good but a bit underwhelming. Our server was trying to upsell us the entire time which we did not enjoy as we kept saying we were good but he was pushing more food on us. I saw a show at The Beacon Theatre (2 blocks up) on a Wednesday evening and was looking for somewhere to eat dinner. I wandered in to Red Farm. The hostess said no tables but I was more than welcome to sit at the bar. I ordered the Crispy Oxtail Dumplings off the specials menu to start. The oxtail was wrapped in a wonton wrapper and fried and served with peanut sauce. These were blazing hot and the filling was beefy and tender. Loved the peanut sauce. When it was time to choose an entree I told the bartender I was trying to decide between the Wide Rice Noodles with BBQ'd Duck and the Korean Rice Cake with Grilled Pork Belly. He said the Korean Rice Cake with Grilled Pork Belly is his favorite dish on the menu so that was my choice. This dish had cabbage, pea pods, red bell pepper, tteokguk tteok (flat Korean rice cakes), and the most lovely wok charred pork belly. There was some heat and a touch of sweetness. This was absolutely delicious and one of the better meals I had in the city on this trip. I'd call this Asian fusion or just really delicious food! If you're going to The Beacon Theatre or just hanging out on the UWS Red Farm is an excellent choice. Great service too. Proves my theory the bartender always knows. I'll be back! read more

Was super happy to see that this place had a gluten free menu with several dim sum options - - POTSTICKERS!!!! Walked in without a reservation and they had an available table outside - - seemed a little more chill so worked for us. Service was quick and attentive. Cold sake was refreshing. Arugula Mango Salad was delicious but had more tomato than mango. GF potstickers were tasty and the GF shrimp and scallop fried rice was yum. Bathroom is in a hallway in the back of the restaurant. Not your traditional Chinese restaurant. Redfarm caters to the UWS families and friends. First thing we noticed was that there weren't two versions of the menu, one in English and another in Chinese. Between the five of us, we ordered a crazy amount of food so while I cannot remember exactly what we ordered, I can say, you really cannot go wrong. It was like 30 minutes to closing time and everything was still delicious. Dumplings and Noodles were the right amount of chewy, all veggies were delicious, everything was tasty! I went to RedFarm yesterday for the first time. The scallion pancakes with bacon were very tasty. And with four pancakes, this appetizer is pretty filling. I also requested the vegetable and peanut dumplings. The four dumplings were small and the peanuts and vegetable combo didn't work for me. The peanut bits did nothing to support the bland, diced veggies and the combo just didn't mesh. In regards to the pricing, there was nothing so special about the flavor of the dumplings or the ingredients to merit the price of about $4 per dumpling. read more

I wasn't feeling too well after eating some fried rice (flavorless) and I was walking/running towards the bathroom when I turned the wrong way into to kitchen and saw a rat the size of a wiener dog run through the kitchen and into the hall. I remember when RedFarm was impossible to get into without a reservation, that clearly is no longer the case. I don't think the issue is the food, as most everything is really quite good, while not being authentically chinese (but more New York Chinese, which is the vibe), but more a pricing issue. Soup dumplings priced at over $20 for 4 is just absolutely wild. The chilled sesame noodles are also over $20 as well, and to put together a meal that feels worth it with a drink here, it's going to cost at least $70-80 a person. I love Chinese food, but the quality isn't so high that it demands this price point. I really love the concept of the Pastrami Egg Roll and the cute dumplings, but everything else feels too high priced for what it is. read more

So. Darn. GOOD!!!!!! My friend and I visited RedFarm on a Saturday night without a reservation on Lunar new year of all days! Suffice it to say the place was packed but we were given an option to sit at a table outside and have an accelerated dining experience (a reservation was coming in about an hour) or to dine at the bar. We were not at all made to feel as if we were bothersome or in the way. In fact, we felt very welcome with how much effort they put into making space for us. We opted for the bar and decided to share several items - crispy vegetable and peanut dumplings, bbq'd beef fried rice, crispy sweet and sour shrimp, and shrimp stuffed shishito poppers. I can't muster a SINGLE critique about any of the food. In fact, I would like to be buried in the kitchen at RedFarm so I can die happy. It was perfect and delicious from beginning to end. I don't remember the name of the drink I ordered, something with watermelon and tequila. It was okay but not memorable. The only other thing I can offer is that the bar seats are not very comfortable for an extended dining experience like ours but the food was worth a little pain and discomfort. Before covid, Decoy was known as one of the best places to get Peking duck. During covid, the restaurant was merged but while before this duck was a specialty, it's now an afterthought and the dish is sadly no longer great. The biggest drop is simply in the quality. The duck used to be plump, flavorful and fresh. Now it's clearly been sitting around for a few days. It's dry, with torn up bits of duck instead of whole cuts of breast meat. It's really sad to see what's become of a once great duck institution and we won't be back. read more
