My good friend Jasmine introduced me to New Cottage and told me it was her favorite Chinese Restaurant. I know that she has always given really good recommendations and I trust her judgment so I went with her for lunch. Ever since then, I went with her whenever we were both available and in the mood. Most recently, I came with all of my girlfriends and we ordered a lot of food for the table to share. [[HIGHLIGHT]]They were really great about one of my friends bringing her service dog into the restaurant and I know that can be hard sometimes.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The food was really good and I enjoyed my meal. They know my friend at the restaurant because she's a frequent customer and she always goes with her mom. I'm surprised that I don't come in to order more often too because the food and the service is so good.

This was my first time at a Chinese restaurant on the upper west side. New Cottage is a tiny level up from your usual Chinese take out restaurant. It wasn't bad and it wasn't really good either. The eggplant with garlic sauce was literally just eggplant, no scallions or tasty garnish..just plain ole eggplant and garlic sauce that didn't have that garlic taste. The spicy diced chicken wasn't spicy, it was rather just very salty as if the chicken was soaked in salt overnight! It's okay but I wouldn't go back. Very simple, basic meals. It was busy for a Thursday lunch period. It's mediocre Chinese food with tables, a wait staff and tables with white tablecloth pleasing for the upper west side I suppose.

Maybe I'm just totally out of touch with prices. Lunch special was 12.95, so with tax it was $14.10. Portion was the expected small container of the lunch, plus ride and a soup. I get it's a better deal than dinner pricing but it did feel pricey.

Try the duck...20 dollars for a 1/2 duck sliced to perfection...they sadly discontinued the Cantonese meats where you could chose from 1-3.. Calm seating looking out to the bustle of UWS Broadway.

It's good Chinese take in or out, that's overpriced on Broadway & 78th St. in NYC. Won't return though.

I did not expect to find a sit down Cantonese & Sichuan Restaurant in the heart of Herald Square…read more For sure a hidden gem worth trying. Came here with two other friends for dinner and we pigged out. We started off with Scallion Pancake with Shredded Duck ($15), which tasted amazing. The pancake was flaky and not overly soaked in oil, while the duck meat enhanced the taste. I think everything should order this for the table. We also got the Dan Dan Noodles w Minced Pork ($8), which is a staple dish in Sichuan cuisine. Make sure you stir the bowl to mix the sauce and minced pork. For veggies, we got the Sautéed Green Beans With Eggplant ($18), which tasted great. I usually get sautéed pea shoots for a veggie dish, but this was worth ordering as the eggplant tasted great along with the green beans. For entrees, we got the Spicy Green Pepper Fish Filet ($28 for filet). A classic Cantonese dish that comes with bok choy, so it turns out I didn't really need to order a veggie dish. Delicious. We also tried the OOHU Mao Xue Wang ($34), which may be one of the most spiciest dish available on the menu. This dish combines blood curd from a duck, tripe, and chicken gizzards along with other organs into a simmered broth containing chilis and peppercorns. They also use spam, vermicelli noodles, mushroom, and other things. If you're adventurous and you like spicy, I would recommend this. Best eaten with a cup of rice. Service is great as our server made good recommends and was overall friendly. They also have a party room you can book, which sounded pretty affordable. Don't recall what their minimum spend was, but it was super reasonable compared to a lot of other spots in Chinatown and Flushing.

We ordered multiple dishes which came out one after the other. Some of the standouts for me were the Pork Intestine Dry Pot ($20.95), Crispy Tofu with Salty Egg Yolk ($23.95), and Sauteed String Beans ($16.95). Many spicy food options since this is a Szechuan spot afterall. Some dishes were a bit too salty and spicy, which they did discount after we brought it to their attention. Overall, decent spot and good for large groups. Otherwise, I didn't find this spot to be too memorable (not bad, not great).

The first time we ordered.. Wonton soup - 5 stars - we both loved the soup. The wonton skins were not thick and the meat was lightly flavored. Soup was light.. peppery. Beef tendon - 5 stars - delicious...lil spicy. The tendons were cooked so tender but they were so difficult to pick up with the chopsticks. $34 ..lil pricey for the amount but it's the city.. We got one white and one purple rice. Second visit.. Pork dumplings with chili oil - 3 stars - dumplings were okay, chili oil was good. Used the oil on other dishes.. we preferred the wonton soup. Lobster with ginger and scallions - 4 stars - Cantonese lobster dish that I've had countless of times. Ok. Mapo tofu - 4 stars - I don't care for tofu but L loved this dish.. even asked for a fork so he could pick up the tofu faster. Kung fu shrimp - 4 stars - fried shrimp in shell with a lot of chili peppers. Brought half of it home and added my own colossal shrimp to it and it was delicious. My shrimp was better but the chili peppers made them even more flavorful. My favorite dish was still the beef tendon and I should've ordered it again on my second visit but we wanted to try different things. Place was always packed but we never had to wait long for a table. Service was great. Refilled our waters and changed our plates when they noticed lobster shells were piling up. I didn't care for the cocktails much. Only tried one. Wasn't very strong.. too pricy for weak cocktails but they have other spirits available..
