Used to be my go to spot but they started skimping on the beef in the Beef & Broccoli Combo. Lots of rice to fill out the container but not enough sauce to cover the rice because there's so little beef & broccoli. I've tried ordering the quart size but it's not a good value for what you get. The General Tso's Chicken and Wonton soup are solid, though the broth in the soup is a little bland. I always forget that they're closed on Mondays. Very regular restaurant-like for what amounts to a takeout/delivery joint. Delivery is quick and it looks like they use their own delivery guys which is rare these days. They have a bad habit of speed reading their orders and not getting them right. I got robbed twice ordering two orders of steamed dumplings and only go one order. I had the beef chow fun - unfortunately it tasted on the blander side to me, there was some beef but it was chewy. General tso's chicken was not bad! It was bursting with flavor and they give a good amount of chicken to rice ratio. Your rice options can be white, brown, and even fried rice (but this is more of a yellow rice with onions instead of your typical fried rice). New Kam Lai is a solid neighborhood Chinese restaurant. I order regularly via Seamless to get my fix of vegetable rolls, dumplings, and sautéed broccoli among other American Chinese dishes. Their lunch specials are the perfect size and I am obsessed. The restaurant calls with questions which I am grateful for (a great policy IMO), and they get my orders right. Their prices are also reasonable especially compared to other restaurants in this neighborhood. The food comes hot, well packaged, and yes I am obsessed with their sautéed broccoli. The lemonade and home ice are quart size and amazing. I am so appreciative of this no frills restaurant for providing such good service. So thankful. read more

Finally! I found a wonderful take out Chinese restaurant in the area!! YES! My new favorite takeout spot. My favorite was the moo shu chicken! So much flavor and well done. Comes with five pancakes. I personally will order more next time. TSO Chicken was well cooked and crispy. The vegetables are crispy and delicious. Delivery took about 30-40 minutes. Not too long and not so quickly that it was rushed and out. The rice was cooked very well. The cashew chicken here is very good. Slices of chicken are nice and thin, packed with a ton of flavor. It was also great that they remembered to put everything in the bag that we asked for. I know that always when I order Chinese takeout, they forget the napkins and chopsticks. We tried this take out restaurant for the first time with an order of chicken chow mein and vegetable spring rolls. When we got home, we found that they had filled a rectangular container with rice along the bottom and to the top of one side and put the equivalent of about two tablespoons of chow mein over the rice in the other side of the container. It was 95% rice. There were two small bits of chicken with mostly onion; so little chow mein that we couldn't mix it with the rice. The vegetable spring rolls were all dough. There was a single shred of carrot in one and a tiny shred of green in the other. We threw them away; nothing but greasy fried dough. And the contents of the container went with it. Good Americanized Chinese fast food that filled me in a pinch. I was hungry, needed to finish my Christmas shopping, was in Manhattan Valley and found this via my trusty Yelp! Love my helpful fellow Yelpers with their reviews. I also was in the mood for hte crispy broccoli with garlic sauce you can't make at home even if your dad was a Chinese Chef. It's all in the fire of the wok, my fellow Yelpers! The place was a dive, with about 4 tables if I remember, clean but for some reason had a B rating which I noticed only when I left, and dished out some pretty good shrimp with broccoli that wasn't too greasy at all. I also noticed the broccoli was more parboiled and steamed and then stir fried as opposed to flash fried, hence the lesser grease ratio. It was delicious and crispy, and they gave a nice portion of large shrimp but the sauce was slightly less garlickly than other places. Service was friendly, efficient and sweet. Scallion pancakes were good (not burnt like a lot of places). Beef with oyster sauce had carrots, snow pea pods and mushrooms. Gave them a huge tip for staying open. It's not easy to have a take away place in good times, so in these horrible times, it's good to know that they are fighting for their restaurant and serving their customers and keeping some sort of normalcy during these times.It's great to have a Chinese restaurant open, even when great majority of Chinatown is closed and it would be risky to even go to Chinatown. I really enjoy New Kam Lai's General Tso Chicken and Crab Rangoon, however, everything else on their menu is quite mediocre. Their Orange Chicken tastes weird, and their fried rice isn't white rice but the yellow type of rice you usually get when you order chicken over rice in the halal carts.
