I'm either too old for this scene or it was just a terrible night. Don't get me wrong, the place is chic, looks really cool, the music eat varied and I enjoyed some of it. When we first got there we waited for like 20 min outside for what we thought was no reason, other people were being let inside and we were confused as to why. We were then told they were over capacity and then police and city ordinance came to inspect, literally randomly....still people were being let inside. Ok, weird, but I wanted to go inside. It was for my birthday celebration so I wanted to check it out. Once finally inside, it was a serious mission to get to the bar to even order something. People wouldn't move, it was neck to neck people, stood at the bar for what seemed like 30 min before even being noticed by a bartender. Almost got into a fight with a group of people for not moving so had to push them out of the way then they decided to bitch and say "you could say excuse me?!" Which I replied with "I did, 5 f***ing times, but you didn't move!". Needless to say, this set off my mood for the place already. Waiting for the drinks took a long time but once we finally got them they were good. I also think I'm just a bit too grown and refined for this kind of scene. It was too rowdy, reminded me of a college hangout. Vibe was decent, and if it wasn't so crowded maybe would've been a little better but I just didn't really enjoy it. Visited this place a few months back for the first time and fell in love. It's become my new spot on the weekends which has provided me with a sweet escape from the usual Wynwood chaos. This cocktail bar has amazing music and a DJ on the weekends and a passive space with a pool table and dim lighting on weekdays. The decor has a vintage style about it which I personally adore. We had been wanting to try The Sylvester for awhile and finally did last night! We went during their "rush hour" happy hour which is a really great deal (drinks for $5-$7). All of our drinks were really yummy and delightfully light (not over-sugared). We also had a charcuterie board that was very good and had a good selection. The decor is so cool and it's definitely a great spot for pictures. My only grievance is that the service was very slow- like waiting 15-20 minutes for cocktails. I would definitely recommend making a reservation here. I felt a bit silly for making one when we got there at 6 and the place was nearly empty, but it quickly filled up and people who walked in were being told that all the tables were reserved and that they could sit at the bar only. The Sylvester is my absolute favorite Miami bar. Amazing decor and ambience (think Old Miami meets New Miami). Friendly, enthusiastic staff. Cocktails unmatched on both flavor and creativity. The Diddy Kong and Sylvester Negroni are--no joke--my two favorite cocktails of all time. The fact that they've been closed due to the Coronavirus has been killing me, but it's obviously been far far worse for the Sylvester team. It recently came to my attention that the crew there started a GoFundMe campaign to try to weather the Covid crisis. One of my favorite spots in midtown! The staff is friendly and inviting even when its a full house. They make us feel like we are at home every time we are here and it keeps us coming back. Not to mention the couches and the decor which reminds me of home too. I celebrated a birthday here once and they let us have mariachis come in before the DJ started. The drinks are extremely tasty. I usually go for the gin and rosemary one but I've tried almost all of the ones on the menu and can confidently say the bartenders know what they are doing. I frequently visit here and love that they have a pool table and some other fun games scattered around to keep people entertained as well. Came here for Happy hour, and this is one of my favorite bars ever now. Its the coolest place, they have a pretty big bar, and plenty of areas to sit down, its a lounge type seating. Very beautifully decorated, they really snapped on the interior design creating the cool vibe inside! The bartender Chris was very cool and helpful. The drink selection here is impressive, they have alot of cocktails and of course they are more than happy to make something off the menu. They have a wonderful happy hour with delicious twists on classic cocktails. I got the Devil May cry, very amazing. The gin and sonic was also great and the best gin and tonic I have ever had! Diddy Kong and the negroni were delicious too. We got a special drink, it was the Khalifa, and yes it's actually named after Mia (I asked LOL) It was absolutely delicious and complex in the best way possible. I highly recommend. I didn't get to try any of the food but I might next time. Regardless, You have to stop by for happy hour, or come later at night if you want more of a lounge vibe with the DJ that comes. It's super loungy and for an early happy hour it wasn't super packed. They have happy hour till 8pm! That menu isn't huge, but it's a solid selection. I had two cocktails: Gin & sonic was excellent. A great gin & tonic. Diddy Kong (Redemption Rye, coconut, espresso, chocolate bitters). They have a great bar bites menu. Plenty of snacks to share. Man, this is the place to be apparently. I met another friend up here that wasn't part of the party and also ran into two gal pals that were enjoying some dranks at the bar. A Great vibe and to top it off, the drinks are spectacular. Everything is balanced and creative. I've only been here twice, and both times the mood was relaxed and not Miami snobby or overcrowded. They have daily drink specials of cocktails, wines, and beer. Today was the "Scotland Yard" cocktail (a gin and apple drink which i tried and enjoyed), and the "Penicilon" (which had a Montelobos Espadin base but I didn't give that one a shot. One of my favorite bars in town The Sylvester is the laid back hangout Miami needed. With easy parking, ample seating, and both a pool and pinball table, it is great for a group or a more intimate get together. Go early to take advantage of their happy hour (which ranges from 4-8PM and offers discounts on snacks and drinks), or come later for a packed scene. Although the drinks may be of superior caliber, the lounge and its bartenders are not at all pretentious. The Sylvester has an old Florida vibe that makes you feel like you're visiting your grandparents' house. However, the cocktails and drinks are way cooler than your grandparents would likely serve, ranging from whimsical spins on the classics to truly innovative libations. Although a bit more on the sweet side, I strongly recommend the Carrot Cake Colada (Plantation Xaymaca, Redemption Rye, Carrot Cake, Coconut, and Mascarpone) or the Monkey Jungle (Monkey Shoulder, Nitro Cold Brew, Chocolate, and a dangerously addictive Banana Custard Cream). However if you're willing to brave the more bitter beverages, the Sylvester Negroni (The Botanist Gin, Aged Date Vermouth, and Young Thai Coconut Campari) is spot on. As for the food, the Kettle Corn is wildly addictive, a barbeque spiced caramel popcorn topped off with freshly shaved parmesan for balance. Another favorite is the Arepa Grilled Cheese, a savory and gooey bite that is only enhanced by the slightly smoky tomato dipping sauce that accompanies it. It is Miami's take on a grilled cheese and tomato soup, and I find it a wildly superior substitution. Come early, come later, just make sure to include The Sylvester on your agenda. Comfortable seating and couches every where. The bar is large and the bartenders are pretty attentive. Drinks here taste good and the happy hour bites are even better. I enjoyed the sausage platter which was delicious. Perfect size to share for 2. To wash it down I enjoyed a tasty made old fashion. I just think the pour size was on the smaller side. This is in comparison to bars of same scale and price. They had an open mic night. Not impressed by the comedians they had preforming. So if I'd come back would probably to try some more bar bites. Such a dope place! This is a place I can picture a Friday after work happy hour to start my weekend. The seats, tables, walls, cocktails, everything, is so cute! Their happy hour menu is not that big but at least they do offer bites in that menu. It was a group of 4 and we didn't have a problem finding a table on a Friday at 6pm..... but maybe we got lucky because most tables were reserved. And by the time we left, all tables were taken but seems like most people like to hang out around that bar. We had a good hour to enjoy happy hour and when we ordered bites and cocktails, it didn't take long. I'm sure we could have done a lot of damage within that hour. I met some friends at The Sylvester after work on a Friday for happy hour, and the place looked so cool based on photos! The Sylvester is located in Miami's Midtown district, right across the street from the Ross store. I actually passed the bar several times when I was on foot walking because there was no visible signage on the door and the sign on the top of the building was out of view to pedestrians. I got to the bar around 7:30 and went to the bar and was told that happy hour was over. I couldn't find anything online about the happy hour hours either. I showed the bartender my Yelp check-in (one extra hour of happy hour), and they told me that I had to have had my tab started prior to 7 to use the check-in. To me it made no sense and I still can't comprehend this policy/procedure (even being completely sober it makes no sense). One of my friends that was already at the bar was frustrated too and offered to have me add my drink to his tab. So I ordered the Devil May Cry drink ($6) from the happy hour menu. The drink was average for a hand-crafted bar but nothing that special. Prices for drinks after happy hour were $15 on average, but my friends and I didn't stay after happy hour and pay those prices. Service was mediocre at best, and mixed with their strange bar policies equals my 2 star review. I wanted to really like The Sylvester and I was really let down by the experience. read more

Misleading menu. They have no paper menus here and direct you to a digital menu. On digital menu it lists wine at $6. I order it and was shocked when bartender hands me a bill for $20. When I tell him about the menu price he says that is a special pricing and the regular price is not listed anywhere on the menu and that he doesn't "write the menu" so it was basically not his problem. Great customer service. I paid $20 for very low quality white wine that tasted terrible and bar was completely dead. Quickly left b/c I can buy overpriced drinks anywhere in Miami with at the very least a better ambiance. read more

The decor is awesome, a mini tropical indoor oasis in the heart of Midtown. They have some bites, not a full menu, but a couple of snack items. This place used to be Bardot in the good old days, they redecorated and the result is pretty cool. You can park behind the bar, there is a main entrance as well as a back door. The ambiance is pretty nice, Miami theme decorations all over the place, lots of seating space and a piano in the middle of the bar. They also have a pool table and board games all over the bar. I was there for happy hour, the bartender was really nice and gave us water right away while we decided what to order. We did our Yelp check in and got one extra hour of happy hour! The menu has a good variety of drinks including cocktails, beer and wine. Look for the CBD upgrades which you can add to any drink, I did not add any this time but I will make sure to try it next time. They have comedy nights on Thursdays, comedians just perform in front of the piano so there is not a real stage. I think it is a good idea but not everyone was aware that it was happening so some people continued to talk and not pay much attention to the performers which was a little weird. my very first bar experience and i am sooo happy it was at the sylvester! parking was fairly easy, we chose a spot at a parking garage nearby and walked on over. upon arrival, it seems like there wouldn't be a cool scene but trust me, as soon as you enter through the door, you are taken back to the nightlife we've all been missing. we waited at the host table and were asked if we had reservations (which we did not) then sat at the bar. the seats were comfy, the ambience was exceptional. lovely decor all over and kind bartenders. we ordered our drinks and finished them while conversing about the nice design throughout the sylvester. overall, absolutely worth a visit! you won't be disappointed, in fact, you will come back for more or think about it forever. enjoy! :) read more

I was able to visit this bar last night as part of Yelps' Extended Happy Hour event. This bar was truly fantastic the decor was adorable with flamingos and palm trees every where, dim lit and couches to relax on, definitely a vintage feel to it. As part of the event, we got to try all the drinks on the Happy Hour menu: -Gin and Sonic - Their take on the G&T made with St. Germain, Delish! -Devil May Cry - My Fave of the night and that's saying a lot as i'm not crazy about tequila and this is a tequila based drink. -Select Start - this was the welcome drink, and it was very tasty as well! All drinks were delish, well made and stiff. For bites I was able to try the Cheese Arepa and the Media Noche, the cheese arepa was good, but the Media Noche sandwich was better, SO TASTY!! All drinks on the happy hour are $6, which I think is a great deal anywhere, but especially in Miami where some places are charging you $10-$11 a drink and calling it HH, but this place in specific goes beyond that by giving you not only good price but a quality drink, it's really a steal!
