We were there at 5 pm on a weekday. So it wasn't crowded. They have staff and seating to handle a crowd, so I assume it is busier later. I appreciated that Jasmine was knowledgeable of the various menu items and was willing able to help us our order. Everything about it from entering the grounds of The Ritz, walking through the hotel lobby, to being greeted at the host/hostess station elevated an experience that by the end of the meal can be summed up in the word Magnifique! Upon reaching the host/hostess station, we were efficiently greeted and brought to our table walking through a beautiful dining room with a piano player to boot reminiscent of the great restaurants of the '70's and '80's. Whisked to our table to a romantic table for two with a full view of the dining room a la Forge Miami Beach 1980. We were told that The Grill has been operational for 40 years and is the best performing restaurant within Marriott's portfolio and the only remaining Grill. Our server who was outstanding had been here for 29 years. He explained to a T the specials and was both professional and friendly what you would expect at a 5 star restaurant. We started by selecting our bottle of wine a reasonably priced Pride Cab that was not heavily marked up. The wine list was extensive with a wide range of wines priced many priced reasonably and providing good value all the way up to top end Screaming Eagle. We elected to start with a great Caesar salad and followed up with two bone-in steaks, one being the 22 oz. bone-in ribeye for $98 and a 22 oz. bone in filet mignon special at $142 that our server described as being 14 oz. of meat and boy was it huge! The bone-in ribeye was cooked perfectly and delicious and the filet was soft as butter and very very good. We had fantastic Cajun spiced steak fries and great broccolini. For dessert we finished up with two souffles that are personal sized, one being a chocolate souffle with chocolate sauce and in asking for sabayon - they advised that while they could not they would bring out creme anglaise. The cookies n cream souffle was even better and delectable! Service was off the chart polished, unrushed and absolutely great. All in all the experience was beyond 5 stars. A truly unique restaurant standing the test of time and without a doubt the best steakhouse and best restaurant that we have eaten at in the State of Florida. (And yes we have been to all the "supposed" greats in Miami and Bern's too). And quite frankly I would put this at the top of its class within the U.S.

But for the service. It really should be 1.5 stars but this system doesn't allow that. Let me explain. Let's start with the appetizers. Best thing on the menu was the beet salad and goat cheese. Probably the best part of the entire meal and its presentation was fantastic. Followed by the clam chowder. Lobster bisque was pretty bad as was the ceasar salad. Onto the main items. PRIME RIB. Many ordered this but not one person liked or finished theirs. In some cases overly fatty and in others the meat was super chewy and barely flavorful. Most of prime rib from all guests was taken home to feed to the dogs. Fish was a tri-tip, overly salty but also undercooked. Desserts - Have t say the donuts were the clear winner. Key Lime Pie had a gross drizzle of raspberry sauce (While do so many restaurants do this?). Creme de pot, so sweet that your teeth hurt from eating it. Look, if you are going to charge high prices and have a prix fix menu for a special occasion like mother's day or other, then THAT menu of items better be spot on and near perfect. D'Amico's The Continental, Naples -- When Hospitality Gets Everything Right…read more First, a rather unexpected thank-you to the famous restaurant across the street: I had been booked to write a restaurant review on a busy Saturday evening. Five guests, an 8 PM reservation, outdoor seating confirmed. What could have been a wonderful evening turned into a deeply disappointing experience, thanks to a reservation mishap and an unacceptable attitude toward customer service. But sometimes a bad experience leads you somewhere wonderful. And that's exactly how we ended up at D'Amico's The Continental. Five guests. Saturday night. No reservation whatsoever. Yet somehow, we were welcomed as though we'd been expected all evening. Enter Kathy, our first hero of the night. Rather than explaining why accommodating five unexpected guests on a busy Saturday would be difficult, Kathy went out of her way to make it happen. A beautiful outdoor table was prepared for us, and within minutes, the disappointment we'd brought with us from across the street was forgotten. Then came David. David guided us through what turned out to be an exceptional culinary experience. He's knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and genuinely enjoys sharing that knowledge. And I mean that entirely as a compliment. I've been known to deduct a star or two when overly attentive service becomes intrusive, constantly interrupting conversations that should remain private. David understood the difference between being attentive and being intrusive. Perfectly. He also encouraged us to venture beyond our usual choices, even offering a rather remarkable performance guarantee: Try this special cocktail. If you don't love it, I'll happily take it back and bring you something else. Now THAT is confidence in what you're serving. We took him up on the recommendation. And, needless to say, nothing went back. ;-) What followed was a delightful culinary journey, from wonderful bread to an excellent burger, a lobster salad with house-made burrata, and fresh fish accompanied by cauliflower risotto that deserves special mention. If you order nothing else, try the cauliflower risotto. Great food, beautiful surroundings, genuinely warm hospitality, and service that somehow managed to be both attentive and discreet. This is what a memorable restaurant experience should feel like. And now, David, I owe you a public apology. Having just flown in from Los Angeles, I relied on an old tipping shortcut: When no gratuity is suggested, double the sales tax and everyone should be reasonably happy. Well, that shortcut failed me spectacularly in Naples. Only today did I realize that I'd left you a 12% tip. For service as exceptional as yours, that's embarrassing. And entirely my mistake, not yours. Unfortunately, I'm leaving town again today. But I'll find a way to make it right. The difference between an ordinary restaurant and an exceptional one isn't just what's on the plate. It's how people make you feel. For each course you get a choice from two items, so we each got one of the choices to make sure we tried everything. Every dish we tried was fantastic; flavorful and beautifully presented. Especially noteworthy was the Amberjack Crudo, Local Mushrooms, Pork Belly, Duck Breast and Confit, and Short Rib. The bone marrow potato espuma (sauce) was to die for. Typically a tasting menu can leave you still hungry, but not here. There was plenty of food and we both left full. The restaurant is in a strip mall and might look discouraging to some, but that helps make it even more surprising. It is a small restaurant, maybe 8 tables, but the service was great. They plan to open another location at Mercato this summer, but not with the tasting menu. They are also holding wine dinners on some Wednesdays and change their tasting menu monthly. We will definitely be back for more.

However, going inside the restaurant and being greeted by the friendliest attendant, we realize we were in for a treat. Looking back, I kind of appreciate now the restaurant's choice of location and very casual interior design and atmosphere, as Old Vines Supper Club's concept revolves around giving an unpretentious dining experience, stripped down of all the bells and whistles of the usual fine dining restaurants, with the main focus of providing spectacular flavor with their creative tasting menu. The overall atmosphere allowed us to better appreciate the whole experience. Amuse Bouche: Carpaccio and Deep Fried Polenta Cake, topped with chimichurri. Strong start. Loved the contrasting texture of the deep fried polenta cake and the lightness of the carpaccio. Dinner Roll and Butter: The chef again demonstrated her attention to detail as she served the most flavorful butter we've tasted. The rosemary thyme butter has great flavor, and paired perfectly with the warm poppyseed dinner roll--crisp on the outside; soft, tasty and pillowy on the inside. First Course: Husband got the fluke crudo, and I got the white asparagus panna cotta--I loved both dishes. The fluke crudo is reminiscent of a deconstructed sushi roll which I like. Both dishes were very light and fresh-tasting. Second: Poached Hogfish: Hogfish perfectly poached. Serving the carrots charred improved the flavor and the overall taste of the whole dish. I could not enjoy the spring peas puree as it was a bit overseasoned, and having it with the other components overpowered the other flavors. Third: Husband had the braised beef and broccoli raviolo, and I got the seared halibut. I liked husband's dish better, but I still enjoyed my halibut. Menu said the halibut came with a jumbo lump crab, but I could not taste nor see it in my plate. The heirloom beans were quite heavy though and somewhat overpowered the halibut. I would suggest cutting down on the beans... But overall, still a good dish! Fourth: Stuffed Quail. I loved this dish! It paired well with the "farrotto" -- their version of risotto. Dessert: Chocolate and cherries. Not sure if it's a bad batch or intentional, but some parts of the torte and/or ice cream felt a little grainy to my liking. This slight letdown did not really greatly affect our overall rating to the whole experience since we were quite stuffed and satisfied when we got to the dessert. Overall we had a great time at Old Vines--great concept, great choice of food components, very sophisticated menu. I loved the intimate setting and comfortable ambience. Definitely one for the books.

For the second course, we had the Pan-Seared Butterfish and Calabrian Cioppino. For dessert, we chose the Fireman Derek's Oreo Cheesecake and Late Summer Berries. Everything was tasty, and the three-course menu offers a lot of variety for $45. The Claw Bar is always a great choice for a nice evening out, and the Early Dining menu makes it an especially good value.
