I have a question for the owners of The Station. How do you plan to have a successful business in Berkeley when you don't allow dogs on your outdoor patio? Berkeley is one of the most dog-friendly cities. I must admit, I was initially intrigued by the Smashburger sign and the simple, old-school look of this place, so we decided to grab some fries . However, I was immediately turned off when I saw the "NO DOGS ALLOWED" sign on a chalkboard outside an open patio that could clearly accommodate our furry friends. Great food!! Love the new spot in Berkeley it is very nice and the vibes are great! I got the regular smash burger and I was very impressed, they kept it very simple with cheese onions and pickles but the flavors on the burger were amazing! Their house sauce is pretty good and the fries are salty and crispy. My buddy got the milk shake and he liked it a lot! All in all a great and quick bite to eat in the Berkeley area. Location/parking: The station is located in the center of a busy intersection which is also near Cal State Berkeley. Parking is limited to street parking so it could be a bit of a nuisance during busier times. Seating: The facility itself appears small, but they've made great use of the space with all around seating including a covered seating area and outdoor area to enjoy the sunny weather. It has the potential for larger groups as long as it's not busy. Food: Where do I start??? For starters, it was too good to take a picture because it did not last longer than 5 seconds on the table. The burger was very cheesy, in a good way (well if you like cheese), almost like a "juicy lucy" (and if you don't know what that is, google it! Knowledge is power!). Now for the fries.... They were crisp to perfection! Dessert: They have a few options, but if you're a Dairy Queen lover, look no further, because this was just delicious! Overall, staff were very friendly. Came here for lunch as a Thursday pick me up. We ordered the Saigon chicken burger, a couple of Double Alley cheeseburgers, some fries, and had a coffee milkshake and vanilla milkshake. The double alley cheeseburgers were delicious. The patties were flattened so that the edges were perfectly crispy. The cheese was nestled on the patties so it was the perfect balance of crispy bits and gooey cheese. The thick pickles added a nice refreshing bite just when it started to get a little heavy, and the onions were caramelized to perfection. Note: they do not have lettuce and tomato with their burgers, but the pickles gave it a balanced bite. The fries and milkshake were delicious as well and I was told the Saigon burger was yummy as well, so I'll have to try that next time! It was a cold day, but they had a heated patio with an awning so it was toasty as well. They also had a fireplace which would be nice to sit around during the nighttime. Total do-over from last Owners! A fun spot w/ better ambience and a very fun vibe. Really good smash-burger & well made fries. They have soft serve too. They have these beautiful looking fried chicken sandos, but I haven't tried them yet. If you order there, you can have them burn some onions for your burger(my favorite). The new Station is sort of in the Japanese mode of "do only one or two things, but do them very well", and they do!!! My only wish is for lettuce/tomato to be an option & I think they should add a hotdog to the menu. We live up the hill, so it's great to have such a good neighborhood spot. read more

The ambiance was nice it was semi inside/outside seating with heaters, overall pretty clean. It was self service and our order came out fast. We ordered the Holy Cow and honestly it was not their best item on the menu. The patties were thin since they were smash style and the fried were kinda stale and not seasoned well. The sauce tasted like in n out but sweeter and a bit spicier, even then I don't think that it made the meal better. I would perhaps go back and try another item on the menu. read more

I've been to The Station three days in a row now, and I'm not even sorry about it. These burgers are next level. The buns alone are absolutely delicious, but the real standout is the meat super flavorful without being too heavy, which is hard to pull off. I love that they don't overcomplicate things. We arrived on Thursday around 6:00 PM, and the place was quite busy, with a lot of kids running around. We ordered a double‑patty burger, a chicken sandwich, and two orders of fries. Unfortunately, the burger was extremely salty, and the thin fries were stone‑cold and over‑fried. The chicken sandwich, however, was very good. The ambience itself is nice, with both indoor and outdoor seating options, but the number of unsupervised kids running around made the experience far less enjoyable. My first introduction to politics was a neighborhood meeting to discuss the application to convert, what was then, a gas station into a burger joint. The crowd appeared ready for action (whatever that means). After the City Planner explained the zoning, application, etc., the crowd was asked for statements. A well dressed Claremont mother was first to speak. She only said one sentence. "I thought it would be nice to have a place where the kids could grab a burger." At first the room was stunned! But then, people realized the nearest burger was down at Ozzies, where the tough Tribune paper boys hung out! A subtle wave of emotion swept through the room as people realized that the Claremont KIDS COULD GET A BURGER! At Last! The meeting quickly ended and as we walked home, happy at last, knowing that in the future, we would get a burger! Flash forward 50 years, and indeed we got burgers...good burgers made of beef with no extenders...like back then! These guys have figured out how to get the maximum flavor out of a beef patty, smash it! The entire patty is caramelized. Kudos to the owners for delivering a double burger for $10.95 in a neighborhood where sandwiches go for $18! A very efficient operation. I loved the original Station from way way back when it was owned by Fred (if you know you know), and have always wanted something better to succeed it since each new incarnation comes up short. The good news is the new space is set up well, optimizing the inside for food prep and the outside for eating. It's a great space in a great location. It'll be successful just for that. The bad news is that my impossible burger was just a giant inedible salt bomb - like bad enough I don't think I'd bother again. We were big fans of Back Alley Burger, back in the day. Always hoped they'd return! Station's food is fantastic. We got the original and the impossible burger and fries. A little less salty than Back Alley was, which is great. All the seating is outside, but most of it is covered and there are space heaters. We went around 6pm on a Saturday and waited about 10 minutes. Food was out pretty fast, and staff were friendly. FYI The Station is not dog friendly. There was a big "no dogs" sign that we somehow did not see until we were leaving. read more
