Great smashburger spot in the Claremont area of Berkeley! I came to The Station on a Friday evening at around 5pm and the ambiance was lively. They only have outdoor seating, but there's a good amount of tables and the area is nicely decorated. You order and pay at their window, and they give you a pager that alerts you when your food is ready. The staff members were very friendly and welcoming - 10/10 service from my experience! I ordered their single Original Back Alley Burger, which included their single smashburger patty, onions, pickles, American cheese, and their house sauce. The burger was juicy and seemed larger than a regular single patty burger due to the amount of toppings they added to my burger. I liked their house sauce - it tasted like a mildy spicy aioli with a hint of tanginess that you would get in ketchup. I also ordered a side of fries, which were very crispy and had a great texture as well. Parking is difficult, but there are many residential streets nearby with some free street parking. My co-workers and I frequently visit The Station on our lunch breaks and we're all big fans. I love that they keep their Smashburger simple and don't try to overdo it - even though I enjoy the usual fixings of lettuce, tomato, and onions. Their burgers come on a potato bun, adding a touch of sweetness. Their burgers are kept simple with your choice of 1 or 2 patties, cheese, and grilled onions. They also offer a house-sauce on the side that tastes like thousand island! Their chicken saigon burger is also yummy if you are looking for an option that has more "freshness" to it. It's similar to a banh-mi due to the jalapenos, pickled carrots, and pickled radish. I have also tried their hippie bowl and I like to add either an extra chicken patty or burger patty for more protein. It's delicious and does not comprise on flavor which I appreciate! First time having smash burgers and they were super flavorful, juicy, and had crisp edges. It was a bit greasy and heavy but that's kind of expected. Service is good. The ONLY complaint is the $1.00 for a bite of avocado that's not even on the burger. It just makes it super inconvenient and messy to be adding it myself. Pretty easy to find parking around the area. Found this spot before hiking, and it was a nice surprise. I got the original cheeseburger, and I rate that a solid 7/10. It's a juicy smash burger patty with delicious American cheese and their sauce and loads of pickles. The fries are a solid 10/10. They're skinny fries that are perfectly solid and crispy. The tiramisu shake was sweet and yummy, definitely a very light tiramisu flavor but good nonetheless. Delicious! I went two days in a row, that's how good the burgers are. I got the original back alley burger, fries, side of the sauce and a milk shake (first day coffee, second day strawberry). The smash burger is simple - cheese, grilled onions, pickles and house sauce. Burger was juicy and filling, the sauce was spicy. The house sauce is like a spicy version of the in and out spread. The ambiance was nice it was semi inside/outside seating with heaters, overall pretty clean. It was self service and our order came out fast. We ordered the Holy Cow and honestly it was not their best item on the menu. The patties were thin since they were smash style and the fried were kinda stale and not seasoned well. Berkeley is one of the most dog-friendly cities. I must admit, I was initially intrigued by the Smashburger sign and the simple, old-school look of this place, so we decided to grab some fries . However, I was immediately turned off when I saw the "NO DOGS ALLOWED" sign on a chalkboard outside an open patio that could clearly accommodate our furry friends. Total do-over from last Owners! A fun spot w/ better ambience and a very fun vibe. Really good smash-burger & well made fries. They have soft serve too. They have these beautiful looking fried chicken sandos, but I haven't tried them yet. If you order there, you can have them burn some onions for your burger(my favorite). The new Station is sort of in the Japanese mode of "do only one or two things, but do them very well", and they do!!! My only wish is for lettuce/tomato to be an option & I think they should add a hotdog to the menu. We live up the hill, so it's great to have such a good neighborhood spot. read more

Great food!! Love the new spot in Berkeley it is very nice and the vibes are great! I got the regular smash burger and I was very impressed, they kept it very simple with cheese onions and pickles but the flavors on the burger were amazing! Their house sauce is pretty good and the fries are salty and crispy. My buddy got the milk shake and he liked it a lot! All in all a great and quick bite to eat in the Berkeley area. Parking is limited to street parking so it could be a bit of a nuisance during busier times. It has the potential for larger groups as long as it's not busy. Food: Where do I start??? For starters, it was too good to take a picture because it did not last longer than 5 seconds on the table. We arrived on Thursday around 6:00 PM, and the place was quite busy, with a lot of kids running around. We ordered a double‑patty burger, a chicken sandwich, and two orders of fries. Unfortunately, the burger was extremely salty, and the thin fries were stone‑cold and over‑fried. The chicken sandwich, however, was very good. The ambience itself is nice, with both indoor and outdoor seating options, but the number of unsupervised kids running around made the experience far less enjoyable. Came here for lunch as a Thursday pick me up. We ordered the Saigon chicken burger, a couple of Double Alley cheeseburgers, some fries, and had a coffee milkshake and vanilla milkshake. The double alley cheeseburgers were delicious. The patties were flattened so that the edges were perfectly crispy. The cheese was nestled on the patties so it was the perfect balance of crispy bits and gooey cheese. The thick pickles added a nice refreshing bite just when it started to get a little heavy, and the onions were caramelized to perfection. Note: they do not have lettuce and tomato with their burgers, but the pickles gave it a balanced bite. The fries and milkshake were delicious as well and I was told the Saigon burger was yummy as well, so I'll have to try that next time! It was a cold day, but they had a heated patio with an awning so it was toasty as well. They also had a fireplace which would be nice to sit around during the nighttime. I've been to The Station three days in a row now, and I'm not even sorry about it. These burgers are next level. Long time resident of the historic Claremont district here! My first introduction to politics was a neighborhood meeting to discuss the application to convert, what was then, a gas station into a burger joint. The crowd appeared ready for action (whatever that means). After the City Planner explained the zoning, application, etc., the crowd was asked for statements. A well dressed Claremont mother was first to speak. She only said one sentence. "I thought it would be nice to have a place where the kids could grab a burger." At first the room was stunned! But then, people realized the nearest burger was down at Ozzies, where the tough Tribune paper boys hung out! A subtle wave of emotion swept through the room as people realized that the Claremont KIDS COULD GET A BURGER! At Last! The meeting quickly ended and as we walked home, happy at last, knowing that in the future, we would get a burger! Flash forward 50 years, and indeed we got burgers...good burgers made of beef with no extenders...like back then! These guys have figured out how to get the maximum flavor out of a beef patty, smash it! The entire patty is caramelized. Kudos to the owners for delivering a double burger for $10.95 in a neighborhood where sandwiches go for $18! A very efficient operation.
