I had stumbled upon The Smith a few years ago and with a friend, and I remember being a super hot day - we sat outside and just had a cocktail. This past week, I had a proper brunch with another friend at The Smith and it was a great experience. I had made reservations (just in case), and I got there right on time but my friend was running late. I got seated towards the back by the friendly hostess but as I was waiting, I changed my mind and wanted to sit closer to the front where there was more light coming in from the front the windows. The hostess was very accommodating and moved the table without a problem. The food was delicious. As always, I try to keep it healthy and had the Sugar Snap Pea salad and my friend had the Burrata. The salad was fresh and crispy, with grilled chicken for extra protein. My friend said the Burrata could have been warmer in temperature, but it was still a good choice for her. The ambiance was also very pleasant, there weren't many people at the time we went and I think once the weather gets warmer, the front doors are able to be fully open and allow air in and provide a more al fresco dining experience. read more

It's the kind of burger that makes you want to write a thank-you note to the cow. The bacon jam and blue cheese didn't just sit there; they threw a party on my palate and forgot to invite the napkins. ​Then there was The Royale. "Scrumptious" doesn't even cover it. It was like a masterclass in structural engineering--how they managed to keep that much flavor stacked between two buns without it collapsing under the weight of its own ego is a mystery. ​By the end of the meal, I was essentially one burger away from needing a forklift to get me to the subway. If you're looking for a quiet, sensible salad, go somewhere else. If you want to enter a meat-induced euphoria that will make you forget your own zip code, this is the place. ​Final Verdict: 10/10. The last time I was here was nearly/exactly 6 years ago. It was the last dinner out for a long time as it was just prior to the COVID shutdown. The Smith is a very reliable and a very good meal. I shared a burrata to start. Phenomenal. Toasted almond pesto is crazy. I split a Burger Royale and Brick Pressed Half Chicken. Both excellent. Don't sleep on the fries. Service was attentive, friendly, and efficient. Total pro. It's a decent size room. So it gets a little loud but not a big deal. For better/worse we sat next to a large (sweet 16 vibey) party. But it was fine. One of my favorite restrooms. Kinda a communal situation. But the showstopper is the photo booth. read more

The smith is always consistent and has tons of seating making it easy to get a reservation. I enjoyed the kale and quinoa salad which was good and very filling. My friend has a gluten allergy and the staff was very accommodating and the manager even came over to assure her they were going to make sure it was GF. My friends and I were in the mood for brunch so we decided to check out the Smith. I have always seen their location in in the East Village for years but we decided to go to the Midtown location. I would recommend making a reservation in advance since they do get pretty busy. They are super spacious and great for big groups. We got seated right away and they have a pretty extensive brunch menu so you will definitely find something for everyone. We got the Cinnamon Sugar Doughnuts to share which was really yummy - they were super pillowy and soft. I got the Benedict Johnny which was pretty good - the base of the dish being a biscuit threw me off a little bit but otherwise super filling and yummy. Overall a solid place for brunch - with a variety of cocktails and drink options as well. They also have a black and white vintage Photo Booth in the basement which is $5 and you get two stripes which is a pretty good deal! read more

Thoughtful, curated service, incredibly spacious, modern American interior. Easy to make a reservation for a large group the night before for late brunch (2pm). Pricing isn't so bad. We usually appetize with salmon tartare, chips and dip, the mac and cheese, and sometimes the calamari (the mac and cheese is delicious, blue cheese dip is great, skinny chips, the tartare's base is usually a bit dry but still good). I wouldn't do the oysters here. Tasty, wide range of brunch cocktails. Impressive matcha, good orange juice. My favorite item on the menu is the smoked salmon potato waffle, which I think is relatively new. The waffle base has good structural integrity despite the weight and still sufficiently moist interior; filling, delicious, poached eggs are perfect. Really good for brunch! This was my first time trying this chain though it's been on my list for a while. We were able to get seated as a group right away at around 1PM on a Sunday. This location has so much seating inside. I started with the Rose Sangria which was so delicious and fruity. It was a late amount too which I loved. I got the breakfast sandwich and loved it. The avocado added great flavor and I love that they threw in some onions with their potatoes. The portion size was great too. Will definitely return to try more! read more

I've been to the NoMad location and raved about their burger with bacon shallot jam, but this was my first time at the Midtown location, and my first time trying their weekend brunch. We started with cinnamon sugar doughnuts, served with hot fudge dipping sauce. These were gone in seconds! I shared the Smith eggs Benedict, served with black forest ham on an English muffin and a side of breakfast potatoes. The English muffin was a bit tough to cut, but the flavors were all delicious. I got a Martini & Oyster combination and the oysters were some of the BEST I have had in a long time! They were absolutely delicious (as was the martini). Thanksgiving dinner. A very pleasant, inviting, surprisingly large, space. Packed with Thanksgiving diners. A real candidate for 5 stars, if they'd just been able to execute. Offered bread, said yes. No bread arrived. Two reminders and bread finally arrived mid main course. Three sides for the table with every dinner. One was delivered. Again with the reminders and they finally showed when we were nearly finished with our main plates. Saving grace, all three, dressing, brussels, and cranberry were very good. They offered turkey breast sliced, legs done osso buco style, and thighs in pot pie. Very imaginative way to use whole birds. Some non turkey offerings as well. Breast was a bit dry. The leg was by far the best choice. I have trouble recommending given the weak execution. But we agreed the food and space were worth a future Thanksgiving revisit as an option. I met a client, a friend, and my son here for dinner. When I walked in I was greeted by Keema. The second I walked in I felt like I was greeted at her home. She had an amazing attitude so the dinner started off awesome! (When we left I asked where the restroom was, she showed me. Now I threw out my back that morning so she showed me and walked me to a closer one. Went to the Smith for brunch on Mother's Day Sunday. It was busy but the place is huge and we were seated immediately after walking in at 11:30. I was impressed that on such a busy day they were still able to accommodate walk ins. We were seated outside which was perfect for people watching and our waitress checked on us frequently. We frequent the Lincoln Center location and always have a great time, but this experience was a disaster from start to finish: * The Table: Despite reserving a "round table," we were given a double booth with a slanted top. This forced our daughter's high chair to be placed at the very end of the table where food is served, which was both inconvenient and a safety concern. * The Service: Our server was completely inattentive. We ordered bread for our daughter early on; it was served to tables that arrived after us, and we had to flag him down just to get basic attention. * The Birthday: The restaurant knew we were celebrating a birthday. All we received was a card on the table - no acknowledgement or effort otherwise. * The "Egg Incident": The tipping point was when a server dropped hot eggs onto my father's lap and the floor. Not only did the manager fail to apologize or offer any remediation, but the mess on the floor was never cleaned for the duration of our meal. The Smith in Midtown East is one of our go-to spots in the city. We've been coming here for years, and it's become a favorite for everything from casual dinners to more celebratory nights out. The vibe is lively and fun, and the staff always goes out of their way to take care of us. If you can snag a spot, definitely try the blue cheese-dipped potato chips--they're addictive and one of our absolute favorite appetizers. We've also had the shrimp cocktail, which is fresh and tasty. Last time we were in, we ordered the crispy calamari, and it did not disappoint--perfectly fried and full of flavor. Sometimes they'll even treat us to a little something from the kitchen, which is such a nice touch and really makes you feel like a valued guest. For my main, I usually stick with the filet mignon. It's always cooked just right, and I especially love it with both the peppercorn sauce and chimichurri--it's hard to choose between them, so I usually just get both. And if you have room for dessert, the sticky toffee pudding is unreal. Warm, rich, and just the perfect sweet ending. The only reason I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 is because it can get really loud inside, especially during peak hours. A bit more soundproofing would go a long way.
