Got my dads birthday cake from here and it was sooooo good! it was definitely more on the pricey side but you get what you pay for- a top notch gourmet cake. Ordered a carrot cake with some custom lettering and she knocked it out of the park. the buttercream icing and cream cheese frosting were both unbelievable- the cream cheese frosting had like a pineapple taste to it. will definitely be getting more cakes from here in the future! i hear she makes vegan cakes too !

Liz at The Sleepy Baker quoted me $150 for a cake feeding 8 people. She went back and forth with me a few times over email to get all my requirements but was kind of hard to reach and at times I wasn't sure if we were on or off. I had no issues with pickup. The cake looked good from afar but up close had a lot of flaws and imperfections, and lacked finesse. Also I've had much better tasting carrot cake.

A talented baker and a patient and kind human! Liz made our wedding cake for our April 2022 wedding, creating a beautiful and delicious three-tiered cake exactly to our design requests. What's more, she created one layer non-dairy to accommodate the groom's dairy allergy while making the other two tiers dairy (so that everyone doesn't have to eat non-dairy!). She met with us early and was always responsive when we had questions or new ideas in the lead up to the wedding. 10/10 would recommend and so glad and grateful that we found The Sleepy Baker.

For dessert at my son's wedding, we had a cupcake tower with a 6" bride/groom cake on top. Everything was great - the look, the taste and the presentation. I was looking for a late light lunch. I walked in to find a case of home-made baked good. I chose a spinach & cheese croissant & a morning glory muffin. They were delicious! Along the side wall were freezer cases full of pre-cooked homemade meals. I regret that I am an out-of-towner or I would be in there buying a dinner right now! Awesome cakes! They are works of art AND they taste really really good. Liz did a beautiful job on a fun birthday cake that she made to look like a flower pot filled with succulent plants (cactus, etc.). Each plant was unique and she really focused on the details. The birthday boy, who is really into gardening and growing succulents, was amazed how each plant was subtly tinged with just the right colors and signs of a healthy plant. And not only did it look beautiful, it tasted fantastic -- perfectly baked, rich and flavorful, not too sweet. Thank you Liz! read more

Anything which I say about the cake that liz made will not be enough. It was just amazing. It looked as I wanted it to and it tasted AMAZING! We coordinated everything over emails (as I live in san diego) and she gave the cake as I wanted. She went the extra mile to add decorations which would accentuated the cake. Her fondant work is great. The fondant was soft, rolled very thing and fresh (you can tell when the fondant quality is great). She made sure there was a generous amount of buttercream to keep the cake moist. Would highly recommend her! As she says 'her chocolate is most popular' and for all the right reason. read more

Liz absolutely lived up to reviews and deserves the 5 star rating. I didn't even know I wanted a cake until four days before the party. We met Thursday night, she talked out the ideas, and actually sparked an even-better idea, which ended up being the theme of the party. The confidence of knowing what our theme was got the momentum going, raised the bar and got us excited. I serendipitously stumbled upon Liz the Sleepy Baker after a google search when my usual go to bakery had closed down. Of course I had waited until the last minute, but she got back to me right away, told me that she could fit me and in, worked with me on my design and made super helpful suggestions. I have known Liz for years, so it was only fitting that after seeing her amazing cakes, I pretty much insisted that she make my birthday cake. Since we know each other pretty well, our consultation was over instant massage. I gave her a Boston theme and a flavor (chocolate on chocolate) and let her work her magic. The cake exceeded my expectations. It was 3 tiers chocolate with a silouette of the Boston skyline on the bottom, perfectly crafted replicas of the team logos, the CITGO sign, and a life sized Dunkin Coffee cup on the top. Liz created our wedding cakes and they could not have been better! The flavors were delicious and buttercream light and creamy. We did a coconut with an almond frosting (my absolute favorite) for our display cake and chocolate raspberry for our other cake. They were incredible and received so many compliments! Meet the Business Owner: Liz B.

I am cake designer and baker who started in the business by making cakes for my kids seven years ago. During the day I worked as a Human Resources professional in higher education and fulfilled my need for creativity by baking and designing cakes at night. As demand for my cakes continued to increase, I made the decision to leave my career in HR after 15 years and start a new one as the Sleepy Baker. I am so excited that I get the opportunity to devote my time to fulfilling my passion for designing and baking cakes. Being around my two young kids who started me down this sweet path is an added bonus!

The pricing (in 2022) for each signature cupcake is $5.50 each, $20 for 4, $27 for 6 and $48 for 12. I saw some chocolate alfajores (my fave), and some other alfajores with what looked like a fruit filling. I asked her what the filling was, and her response was, "Um, I don't know." That is an unacceptable response. She works there, and she should be able to answer questions about every item they sell. To me, that question would be a pretty common one, so "Let me find out" would have been a better response. I bought a few things and I'm sure they'll be good. But I hope they'll train their folks more thoroughly.

I give them only when something has, in the truest sense of the word, surprised me. In a world oversaturated with mediocre coffee shops and uninspired baked goods, Quebrada Baking Company stands apart, not merely as a café, but as an experience worth seeking out, returning to, and telling everyone you know about. Quebrada has surprised me. We begin with the iced coffee, because it demands to be addressed first. I have endured, over the course of a long and largely joyless life of coffee consumption, more iced coffee than any person should reasonably be subjected to watered-down, over-sweetened, catastrophically over-iced monuments to mediocrity. What Quebrada produces is something else entirely. The balance is immaculate smooth, bold, and refreshing in equal measure, with a depth of flavor that lingers in the best possible way. It is the finest iced coffee I have encountered. I do not expect to encounter better. Whatever craft goes into that cup, it is something to be protected. The baked goods are equally deserving of distinction. The banana bread and pumpkin bread, in particular, are a masterclass in what these classics are supposed to be. Moisture, in baked goods, is not an accident it is a consequence of discipline and intention. Each slice arrives perfectly moist not dense, not dry, but exactly right with a richness and warmth that suggests genuine care in every step of preparation. These are not afterthoughts set out under a glass dome to accompany a drink order. These are the reason to come. The space itself is worthy of note. Quebrada has cultivated an atmosphere that is at once refined and deeply welcoming the kind of environment that invites you to stay longer than you planned and leave more restored than when you arrived. The staff contribute enormously to this. Consistently kind, not performatively so, but in the quiet, assured way that indicates it is simply who they are. This, too, is rarer than it ought to be. What perhaps speaks most highly of Quebrada, however, is this: for the past six months, I have returned nearly every week alongside a close friend. It has become our standing ritual, our preferred backdrop for conversation and quiet alike. In that time, not a single visit has disappointed. There is a rare integrity to a place that earns your loyalty week after week without ever becoming complacent, and Quebrada has earned ours completely. I have come to understand that a visit to Quebrada does not merely accompany a good day, it creates one. There is something almost alchemical about it. A difficult morning becomes manageable. A quiet afternoon becomes something worth savoring. I have walked through that door weighed down and left feeling, without quite knowing how, lighter. That is not something a menu can account for. That is the result of a place built with genuine warmth and purpose. For the food that has never once let me down, and for the comfort that has carried me through more days than I can count. I am, sincerely and without reservation, grateful. Quebrada has given me more than coffee and bread. It has given me something to look forward to. There is no higher standard by which I measure an establishment than this: that it earns your return, again and again, without ever giving you reason to reconsider. Our Swirls Around the World Family is so beyond blessed and grateful to have connected with the incredible Liz (aka The Sleepy Baker!). An important and special part of our Swirls Around the World Mission is paying it forward through Swirls Warrior Days for pediatric and young adult cancer fighters and families. On Monday, we were contacted by a warrior family to assist in finding a special cake to celebrate their warrior's 3rd birthday that upcoming Friday. After searching for bakeries in the area, we came upon Liz and The Sleepy Baker and sent an email to ask if she would be willing to team up with Swirls to help make a warrior's birthday extra special. Not even 5 minutes after sending the email we received a response from Liz more than willing and happy to make this possible. Not only did Liz offer to make the cake on such short notice, but she also offered to deliver the cake herself. Liz created the most perfect 3rd birthday cake, leaving us speechless. She capture the warrior's favorite characters (Thomas the Train and Lighting McQueen) AND his favorite flavor! Lis brought all of the the magic, smiles, and blessings - and helped create the most special birthday for a child and family who have been through so much together. Liz is a true angel on Earth. I have now had the opportunity to purchase many of my children's birthday cakes from the Sleepy Baker and have never been disappointed. She is truly talented and lovely to work with. She is always up for a challenge. For example just recently for my 5 year old's Starwars themed party he wanted a Luke Skywalkers X-wing plane cake. I tried to convince my son to have a Darth Vader or R2D2 cake which I thought would already be hard but perhaps a little easier but she insisted she was up for the challenge of it. The cake was spectacular. What was equally as impressive was how incredible it tasted. This was not your typical kids cake but truly gourmet. It was layered and filled with a dark chocolate swiss meringue butter cream! The frosting, the filling, and the cake part were heavenly. I heard many of our grown-up guests say it was the best cake they had ever tasted. It was fabulous to be able to please both the younger and older set! I originally met Liz when she made mini-cupcakes for a charity auction I helped plan. The cupcakes were amazing so when my Mom mentioned she was getting the cake for my cousins baby shower I told her I had a great baker to use and immediately contacted The Sleepy Baker. Liz was fabulous to work with - so easy going and ready to make tons of suggestions since I wasn't really sure what I wanted. I gave her the shower invitation and she created a replica of it on the cake. The cake looked amazing but tasted even better. I am not normally a huge fan of frosting but Liz''s lemon swiss meringue frosting was by far one of the greatest things I have ever tasted. I had such a nice experience working with Sleepy Baker for my daughter's 1st birthday! It was super easy to get in touch and coordinate everything over email, which made the whole process stress-free. She created the most adorable personalized smash cake that perfectly matched my daughter's birthday theme. To meet her order minimum, I added cupcakes, which turned out to be a great decision because they were just as beautiful and delicious! While the price was on the higher side for a four-inch cake, it was clear that extra care and attention went into every detail. She genuinely cared about my experience and went above and beyond to ensure the cake stayed intact during the drive home. Plus, she was so sweet and thoughtful throughout the process. I will never forget the first time I tried one of Liz's cakes. It was at a party and the cake was gorgeous- so gorgeous that I figured it would be one of those "gorgeous, but tasteless cakes". The cake that I out into my mouth blew my mind. It was so delicious! I kept saying to people, "Oh my god! Did you try the cake? It's amazing!" Had my mom's 70th birthday. We asked the sleepy baker to include all of her favorite things on the cake... A cake shaped like a slot machine!!! They even added a working lever on the side of the slot machine. All we had to do is just give them a few thoughts and their creativity did the rest. Can you say banana pudding? It's so delicious, I want some right now so badly. Layers of pudding, vanilla wafers, and banana. They sell out quite often, especially during the holidays. I think I literally ran over after the Radio City Music Hall Christmas Spectacular to get some, since they were sold out before. I'm not a cupcake fan, but I suppose they have those too. read more
