There was one guy working who was super helpful in answering our questions. After looking at the selection of chocolates we decided on getting mini truffles. They can come in as a box of 1, 2, 4, 8, or 12. There were a few flavors we picked that were sold out, but ended up getting sea salt caramel, strawberry, strawberry cheesecake, sweet dreams, Dubai, peanut butter, red velvet, and white chocolate. The sea salt caramel is a fan favorite and definitely one of the favorites I tried as well. The mini truffles are priced at $2.50/piece so a box of 8 will set you back at $20. I wasn't a big of the white chocolate or Dubai, but these are definitely great chocolates to treat yourself or to give as a gift. I'd definitely recommend trying them out and hope to come back to try out all the other flavors.

"Well, I don't need a doctor I don't need a nurse Anything…read moreyou give me babe will only make me worse I need rock therapy" (Stray Cats) You know a chocolate business is serious about their products when they name that business "Chocolate Therapy". Since 2011, they've created hand-made artisanal truffles, bark, and wrapped chocolates just twenty miles west of Boston. We saw them being promoted on a television news show, and since we both have a weakness for chocolate, decided to give their "Trio Nut Bark" a go. It came in a pretty boxed gift set with three different chocolate barks in generously portioned 3" X 3" squares. There were four squares of each of the three flavors for a total of twelve yummy squares. Here are the over-the-top descriptions from their website: 1) Rich Dark Chocolate Almond bark sprinkled with delicate French grey sea salt 2) Creamy White Chocolate Bark with the satisfying crunch of green hued slightly sweet pistachios 3) Smooth Milk Chocolate Bark with the delightful crunch of roasted buttery Cashews So how did our $24.50 + shipping chocolates taste? The Rich Dark Chocolate Almond bark was top notch. Excellent dark chocolate flavor, plenty of big almond pieces, and that light touch of sea salt really finished it off. The Creamy White Chocolate Bark was excellent, and I was impressed by the large amount of full-sized pistachio nuts in the square. The Milk Chocolate Bark was fantastic -smooth, creamy, and sweet with plenty of crushed cashews to boost up the taste and add to the texture. They were all so good, I really can't say I had a favorite. In summary, their chocolates are magnificent. BTW, their website advertises a very cool experience for ten or more - a Virtual Chocolate Tasting, with chocolate kits for your guests, a lesson on how chocolate is made, and chocolate tastings along each step of the process.

You'll see big painted letters, illuminated by lights as if a divine revelation from the Lord above that reads "A Life Without Anything Good is Bad". Van Leeuwen's website takes that thought even further with this - "What could be happier than that magic combination of milk, cream, eggs, and cane sugar (or coconuts, cashews and oats for our vegan friends)? Yes, our ice cream has fat. And that's okay. It's good-good, not good-bad". OK, that kind of gets your expectations up for some great ice cream, and Van Leeuwen sure delivered on that expectation. Their ice cream experience starts with the large amount of floor space their store occupies. It's a big open space with pretty yellow and pink and woodgrain color schemes. The ordering area is spacious, as is their dining area if you want to gobble up your cones and cups inside the store. Their business model is crushing it, considering they've only been around since 2008, but already have 34 stores in New York, 13 in California, 3 in New Jersey, 8 in Texas, 5 in Pennsylvania, 2 in Colorado, 4 in (downstate) Connecticut, 7 in Washington D.C., 4 in Massachusetts, one in Florida, 2 in Nashville, and dozens more coming soon across the continent. When I was checking out their flavors, I saw another sign that read "If you have a mouth, we have a flavor". There were 16 regular, 6 vegan, and three special flavors on the menu board yesterday, so that's a very nice selection. I went with a cup of a special flavor - "Sweet Corn Blueberry Jam" with a dark chocolate curl topping. It was wonderful. I truly tasted more blueberry than sweet corn in the dish, but those itty-bitty ribbons of dark chocolate were fantastic. Van Leeuwen is not the least expensive ice cream shop I've seen, but it sure is one of the more fun places to visit, and their ice creams are great.
