UPDATE FEBRUARY 21, 2023: ABOVE AND BEYOND THE CALL OF DUTY! I stopped in here to ask Lillian the proprietor about getting a memory foam mattress topper. Five years ago, I had bought a bed from The Sleep Store (see original review). I had just earlier gotten a quote elsewhere re: both a 2 inch thick and also a 3 inch thick twin XL (38" x 80") size memory foam topper. Needless to say, I am satisfied with the bed that I bought. Apparently because I had already bought a bed from her, and also because it was a discontinued item, she actually GAVE me a 3 inch memory foam topper! (see photos) This was above and beyond the call of duty! So I cannot guarantee this would be your experience too. Thank you Lillian! HER KNOWLEDGE ASTOUNDS BEYOND BOUNDS Anyway, we sat down and had a fairly long, pleasant conversation about many things, as the store was not busy at the time. It turns out that Lillian is quite well educated about quite a few things that one would not expect most people to be familiar with. In addition to educating me about the necessity of reversing your mattress, 180° twice a year to prolong the life of the mattress (no surprise here), she was familiar with salvaging vacuum cleaners, about "daylight basements" (half underground and half at ground level), about how to keep your home from being flooded, among other things. As somebody who has salvaged dozens of vacuum cleaners from the trash, who has lived in daylight basements most of his life (including presently), and who has experienced repeated flooding in his basement dwellings, her knowledge has floored me! My point is if she knows so much about things that are not related to the business of selling beds and bedding supplies, you can be sure that she knows her business in "The Sleep Store." LIKE DAVID VS GOLIATH, SHE OVERCAME COVID Not only does she sell quality bedding, she does not try to get rich in doing so. And yet her large store has survived the COVID-19 pandemic, which appears to now be seriously on the wane. (a friend just contracted it recently, so Covid is not "down for the count" yet). Her secret? Not by using shifty shafty tactics of today's crass commercialization of "SELL! SELL! SELL! But my focusing on the needs of those who walk into her store, knowing her products, (and then some), and valuing her customers more than her profits. OXIDATION PILLOWS ASSIST UNCONSCIOUS AIR INTAKE WHEN ON YOUR BACK! Finally, I told her to give me a call when she gets her new supply of "Oxidation" pillows, which though not a substitute for CPAP, she, nevertheless told me they could help keep one's airway open when sleeping on one's back. Honesty was going to go to a big box store but was really curious about getting an organic/nontoxic mattress. We came here half an hour before closing and Ella gave us incredible service. Educated us on all the choices, was so patient with us, and never rushing us. We were even able to buy mattresses on the spot (floor models). Amazing selection of Organic and Chemical Free Bedding. I bought this mattress because my girlfrend suffers from allergies and often has reactions to chemicals typically found in bedding. The sleep store provided me with an excellent 8' Latex mattress, which was soft and comfortable and didn't cause any allergies or issues for my partner. We recently purchased a Naturepedic mattress from Lillian - she's the only retailer that carries pretty much their full line in store within 50 miles of Seattle. Lillian was courteous and attentive. It was very important for my partner and I to purchase a mattress free of chemicals and harmful toxins and I found Lillian to be very knowledgeable on the brands she carries and the ingredients in the mattresses (she even explained in detail why she no longer carries the Essentia brand I was also considering purchasing). I am a young adult in my late 20s, and decided it was time for a grown-up bed that isn't a beat-up secondhand bed. I wanted to go to a small business instead of a big company. The Sleep Store was the first store I visited. I had intended to shop around a bit, but I liked the Sleep Store so much I ended up getting my mattress there and wood frame there. Delivery was free, and the delivery people took away my old bed to donate to charity. The owner and her daughter were very hardworking, informative, and helpful. They were also very frank and transparent, so I really trusted them. They both cared about helping me find the right bed, not being pushy or "making the sale." I love my bed and didn't know sleeping could be so comfortable! This certainly is not a discount mattress store (they specialize in organic mattresses, but have some other options too), but I spent a lot less than I expected I would on a high-end mattress. What a FANTASTIC store!!! My husband and I put off buying a mattress for 5 years -- I find the whole mattress industry purposely confusing, pricing is suspect (especially with all the "going out of business" sales that persist at the never going out business stores), all the goofy foams and 'technology.' The 'push' at mattress stores is so unbearable. I, then, thought for a while I would just buy online...but, of course, for a mattress that is rife with its own set of problems. Lillian was extremely helpful in picking out a mattress and suggesting alternate solutions. I was looking into the Savvy Rest mattress due to its many certifications. Over the course of a month, I went into the store three times to test the mattresses. We must have tried 7 or so different configurations (3 layers of latex, each one can be soft dunlop, soft talalay, medium dunlop, medium talalay, firm dunlop, firm talalay. I'm a sensitive sleeper and could tell the subtle differences between the six. Lillian was very accommodating in allowing me to try all the combinations until I found one that worked best for my body. No way could I have arrived at my final decision online. I've come here four times in order to buy a pillow, only to not follow through with a purchase only due to my unusual circumstances and nothing to do with this wonderful business. Every time, LIllian or her daughter will show you all their different mattresses and pillows tomake sur ehtey find the right fit for you, based on your sleeping preferences and type of mattress you have. They use high-quality, non-toxic pillows that are extremely comfortable and durable. Several times, LIllian has let me take one home to try overnight, and I've never slept so well. After a significant amount of research to find a bed that was both organic and latex-free, we ended up at the Sleep Store in Bellevue. As soon as we walked in, Lillian greeted us and made some initial recommendations of beds for us to test while she finished working with another guest. She spent 1.5 hours with us after that walking through the benefits and features of each style of bed that would meet our needs. Placed and order and excitedly awaited our delivery. On the day of delivery, there was a slight mix-up with the warehouse and delivery service, and our non-latex section didn't arrive. After a quick set of phone calls, Lillian delivered the missing item herself and spent an additional hour explaining how to care for our new mattress and some "pro tips." She didn't have to drive over to Seattle herself, but as a small business owner, she took the time to do it - and that speaks volumes. Our Naturepedic bed set up quickly, and easily fit our existing bed frame and headboard. Unlike conventional mattresses, it had little to no "new mattress smell," either. After two years with our new mattress it is totally broken down. There are depressions on each side where we sleep and we are normal size people. We rotated it but you cannot flip it as it has a hard backing. During the last year I have bought 3 different toppers, including the awful foam one that we were avoiding. What a waste of 2,000 dollars. The store has moved but I doubt that she would care as I had also bought a wool pillow that hurt my face. I took it in and she cut it open and there was a 2x1 inch piece of hard, rough, thick plastic, sewn into it. She offered me another pillow. I asked for a refund and got the heck out of there. No apology or offer of a discount on the replacement pillow. I say, do your research on these organic beds and get a warranty. Also, check all the statements that this store makes regarding their beds. I did call her regarding the mattress breaking down and she offered to sell me a topper for 700.00 dollars. After sleeping around for the past year, I just ordered a bed from the Davenport Hotel in Spokane. They are made in Sumner, WA and have a 10 year warranty and best of all, the pillow top is on both sides, so not only can you rotate it but you can flip it. We loved our experience with the Sleep Store. Bought our mattress back in September after two weeks of searching around. The Sleep Store was the first store we visited and Lilian (the owner) was very knowledgeable, friendly, and she let us test without any pressure of buying.
