I realized that it's been a very long time since I originally reviewed Second Half and it needs an update. Second half has become one of our go-to places when the neighborhood boys want to grab some lunch and have a beer or two. Whenever we come here we're greeted enthusiastically and our servers are always super friendly. Coming here for lunch is always great as the place isn't loud and we can eat, drink, and hear each other talk. We were here recently for lunch and I had the fish and chips (except I subbed out the fries for onion rings). They don't have a huge selection of beers, but they usually have a nice selection of GOOD beers.

The food was outstanding much more than a bar menu. The place had a nice Irish vibe without being over the top. Service was really good they actually competed a drink for a small issue with the burger ) nothing big) but really made us feel good because they did t have too.

Kid's Chicken Fingers with French Fries Dinner

Warm and cozy. Those are the two words that come to mind as we walked in to The Second Half. The staff was very welcoming and catered to our every need. We ordered the French Onion Soup, which was very good and is recommended. Our almost three-year-old couldn't stop eating the chicken fingers and fries. For the main course, I had a cheeseburger with cheese and onions. The burger was overcooked (asked for medium well and the bottom was burnt) but the waffle fries were very tasty. I asked for BBQ sauce on the side and it was some of the most delicious sauce I have ever had - it had a slight kick to it that I loved. We would definitely come back.

A perfect lunch in the heart of downtown Denville. Stopped in for lunch at The Second Half On Main to celebrate Saint Patrick's Day. We arrived at 1:40ish and were able to grab a table near the bar, with no wait at all. While a Guinness is a St. Patrick's staple, I'm not a big fan so stuck with what I know and ordered an IPA. When we first sat down, we were greeted by Kaitlin ( if I botched the spelling on you name, I apologize. There are so many variations) She was quick to keep us hydrated and had a good grasp of the beers available. We ordered a few Lunch IPA's (The Maine Brewing Company - 7% ALC) as well a Guiness which arrived rather quickly. Kudos to Kaitlin for going above and beyond I'm making sure our table wasn't wobbly. We assured her our beers we not a tipping hazard, but she did not want to take that chance and corrected the problem. A huge thanks for going the extra mile for us and not risking a spilled beer. When it came to ordering, Adam took over and was very attentive as well. We took advantage of one of the daily specials and ordered the Conred beef sandwich (coleslaw, pickle and horseradish sauce) as well as a burger. All meals were delicious and served fresh. We were checked on several times during our meal and service was top notch. The beer was cold and the food was great and made for a great St. Patrick's Day lunch. For those hankering a good meal for St. Patrick's Day, consider The Second Half On Main. I'm rather confident they offer this meal all day long for takeout or eat in while supplies last. We did try another local place but it was jammed packed with an 45 minute wait. We found that The Second Half in Main less crowded and a great location for a few guys to catch up while having a few cold beers and eating some food. If your looking for a good place to eat, consider stopping in or carrying out for your Saint Patrick's Meal..

Blacken chicken quesadillas

Stopped by after a doctor's appointment in the area. Cute spot. Food is meh though. I ordered a blackened chicken quesadilla. Chicken was dry but was seasoned. Barely any cheese. And could not hold it together to eat as the chicken wasn't stuck to any cheese that it just fell out. Didn't even try the rice (it was supposed to be subbed with fries). My bf ordered the Philly steak sandwich, he said its totally steak'ems with a glob of cheese on top and the veggies are large and undercooked. Honestly won't be back.

Came in because I was around and hungry. There was no wait so I sat immediately. Ordered an espresso martini and calamari. The calamari came with a spicy aioli and marinara. I preferred the marinara over the spicy aioli. After, I got the Spicy Garden Salad which was amazing!! I got it with blackened shrimp instead of chicken. I also tried the Chicken & Chorizo Quesadilla which was also yummy! I honestly have no complaints and would come back again!

Second half is a solid restaurant with a wonderful outdoor seating area. The service is fantastic and they have an extensive menu. They also have a kids menu that is rather impressive. I like that they have a full bar with a nice beer selection. The restaurant is located in downtown Denville and well within walking distance to classics such as Denville Dairy. I would gladly go back here, and my only complaint is that the crab cakes were a little over-fried. The ribs daily special, kids chicken quesadilla and salads all looked fantastic!

Penne chicken vodka. Take a pass on the garlic bread and maybe just ask for plain pieces instead to soak up the sauce.

Ordered the catfish today. Excellent meal and the 60 second Dogfish IPA was a perfect combo to this spicy dish!

Are there heaters for outdoor dining?

The last time we dined there weren't any heaters but the weather certainly didn't warrant heaters.

The chicken wings had a good crisp, the side salad I asked for was fresh, the cheese steak roll was pillowy soft and was nicely cheesy, and most importantly, the gentleman behind the bar who took our order was a fantastically nice guy The cons. The garlic parm sauce on the wings were a bit lacking and the amount of meat on the cheese steak was only half enough to really fill that long roll. And the most irksome thing was the 2,23 % "technology fee". No offense but WTH is that?????? If it was to use the credit card, it wasn't explained at all. Look, if you like a funky bar with good food and you are in the area, I would say check it out once in your life and form your opinion. But, for me, I just don't know how often

Inside, the dining area is spacious, and tastefully furnished with a nice warm fireplace in the room. The bar area has plenty of seats and TVs for sports fans. Our server Angela B. was so very pleasant, and attentive. She informed us about weekday events held at The Barn (trivia, bingo, vinyl night) and what sounded like a great Brunch Sat/Sun. We will be returning to experience some of them. We started with "Barnachos" ($18) containing a generous portion of pork (carnitas) and the usual nacho components. No pump cheese here though! Yay My wife had a lovely Greek salad ($19) with feta, grilled chicken, olives, onions, etc. I had a Meat Lovers pizza: pepperoni, sausage, cheese, sauce, peppers, onions, olives, etc ($22). The pizza was served piping hot. The portions were all generous and the food was delicious. We were too full for dessert! The cocktail sauce definitely seems homemade and has a great kick to it. Fries were had a good crisp and the fish was pretty good. The side salad was very good and was a decent portion. The chicken parm and fish portion was a very healthy size. The whole ambiance of the place reminds me of places from my childhood and that makes me happy. Cons. The fish could have been a slight bit moister but over was still good. The chicken parm was a bit bland in flavor and a bit thick in breading. Coleslaw, with the fish and chips, was definitely store bought. Overall, the place is worth the stop on through if you are on a budget or like place that remind you of an era gone by. but still want to eat out. Just remember that it is a CASH ONLY place.
