The Barn in Rockaway is a nice themed restaurant with an extensive menu and a sports bar feel. The service was good, and I was surprised by how reasonable the prices were visiting from Phoenix. I had a ahi tuna burger and it was cooked perfectly. The tots were also very good, however sweet potato fries seem to be the house specialty. My father had fish and chips, and while the portions are smaller than what I am used to, it looked very good over all. They have a full menu and plenty of televisions for sports. I had come here a long time ago when it was still Damon's and it was nice to see the site is doing so well with The Barn. read more

I don't usually write reviews but we had such a great experience I had to share. We had the french dip, wings, and vodka fries. They were delicious. They also have the best dog menu! Our dog loved the carrots and hamburger patty. Our waiter Dominic was so attentive and nice. Joel, the manager, even brought out our dog's food personally to ensure he liked it. I enjoy this place for the most part! The food is so yummy and that's the main reason why I keep coming back. The quality never falters. My one complaint is with the service. The service is never amazing. I feel as though I have to ask the same question multiple times in order to actually get what I need and I end up feeling annoying and stop asking at a certain point. Came here with a group to celebrate the engagement of our friends. It's a unique looking place when you pull in, and literally looks like a country barn. Inside is well-kept and modern rustic. No frills here. The place clearly places an emphasis on food and service. Our server was prompt and attentive, even with our large group. He was also kind and courteous. I love ordering lunch from the barn! This place is consistent, generous in portions and fairly priced. This place is dependable good tasting food and I'm never hunting for the meat or the components of any particular item. Service is super fast cordial and friendly. The menu changes which is fantastic however there are some staples all throughout the year. Came to the bar for a friend's birthday. We had a long table with about 12 people. When we got there the place was fairly crowded, it was a Saturday night which is not to be unexpected. The waiting area was full and I overheard the host saying people are not getting up. After a short wait. However, they did manage to clear out the waiting area and see everyone. We sat down at our long table which had plenty of room which was nice. The waiter came by and took an order of drinks, fairly uneventful. I have been to the Black River bar a number of times and figured I knew what I wanted because the food I assumed was the same. I had ordered the French onion soup and a Reuben as well as one of their cocktails. I found the cocktail odd as it was served at room temperature. I had expected it to be cold, however it did have a warming effect and it was off their winter cocktail menu so I assumed that's how it was intended to be served. When the appetizers came out I'd gotten my soup and it was very good. We had one issue with the appetizers as one of the people to my left did not get their salad until moments before the entrees came out. One way had gotten are entrees. Mine was the first to be dropped off and wanting to wait for everyone else. I did bite into a fry, the first thing I noticed was the fries were cold which was rather disappointing. And so after they had dropped off the rest of the food I had let them waiter know that my fries were cold and if they could reheat them and he had offered just to make a fresh batch. What I should have done was also try the sandwich because the Reuben was overly salty. I don't know how that happens. I don't know if they make the pastrami and house or if they just happen to put extra salt on there, there was also a lack of the typical Reuben dressing as well as the sauerkraut, as you can see from my picture the sandwich was so salty that I actually didn't eat it and left it on the plate and just ate the new order of fries. To top this off and why the rating is as low as it was, halfway through the meal. Someone had bumped into one of the waiters who is carrying a tray of drinks, that were spilled on to me. I was wearing a cardigan, a t-shirt and another undershirt t-shirt under that it was enough to soak through the cardigan and both shirts. I was so soaking wet that I asked them if they had a t-shirt for me because I could not sit there like that, also, one of the drinks was a whiskey drink. The other was a beer and I was wearing a white cardigan and they stained the cardigan, which is frustrating as even cheap cardigans are not that cheap and that was not a cheap cardigan. What annoyed me the most was there was no recompense for that. The manager didn't come over to apologize, The waiter did deeply profess is apologies but management could have bought me a drink or something as an apology. They did give me a t-shirt which I probably changed into in the bathroom because if I didn't I would have had to go home. I have had something like this happen in the past, actually more than once and typically management will either offer to comp a meal around of drinks for the table or to pick up the dry cleaning bill which I would have rather had. But no one came over to talk to us and they kind of just shovel it on to the waiter. I think the lack of acknowledgment of this paired with the poor quality sandwich I didn't eat more than a few bites of is why I'm giving this place to stars read more

One of the BEST eating experiences in Morris County!!! I have always wanted to visit this restaurant and never had the opportunity, until last night...my daughter's high school sports team used the restaurant for a fundraising night and it was amazing. The food, the atmosphere and the service were just what we needed and staying open to 2am in the morning was an extra added bonus. The food was delicious and I absolutely loved the portion sizes, having shareable platters always works well. Our waitress was the BEST and recommended some of the tastiest dishes. Met up with some friends here and this is about halfway between us. Everyone I was with had been here before except me and was raving about how delicious it was. We started off with drinks and I had a signature margarita that was probably one of the best I've had. We then ordered appetizers and got the Buffalo cauliflower and spinach and artichoke dip. The cauliflower was burnt on the top but still undercooked making it very heard to eat. I then ordered the crab cake sandwich for my entree and was a bit underwhelmed as. It was dry with no sauce on it only coleslaw on the side. It had tasty flavor so I opted to just bring home 95% of it and have it with tartar sauce and a lemon. We also stayed in hopes of hearing the band that was supposed to start at 9:30. Left at 10:15 as the band was still going through sound check. Overall the place was nice & wasn't overly crowded. Not only was the dessert fabulous but our apps and entrees were out of this world as well! We had the chicken vodka parm fries, vodka pepperoni pizza, and chicken tacos of course, all amazing. New owner, management and staff always so friendly and attentive to customers needs. We decided to give The Barn a chance even after reading iffy reviews and were pleasantly surprised. We sat at the bar to watch baseball for which they changed the channel. The bartender came right over to greet us and happily gave us the time we needed. The cocktail and beer selection was lengthy with variety. We loved the ciders. When we only had a little left of our drinks, someone was there, so we never ran empty. The manager even came over and chatted with us a bit. Everyone was just so nice and attentive. Went for the first time with friends from the area! Ambiance: American Bar/Restaurant with a lot going on for a Saturday Night. Live band, a dance floor, table service, crowded, and big menu for apps/dinner/drinks. Parking was easy even though it was crowded and lot was pretty full. 20 minute wait, which turned out to be about 10 min for party of 3 in a booth. Price Point: In line with what I expected for a popular dinner spot. Ordered: Bread and small cup of macaroni salad (comes with table), Pretzel sticks, mozzarella sticks, fried calamari, Cheeseburger, Lobster Mac & Cheese Pros: The vibes were great for my group (party of 3 in their 20's). Lots of appetizer/food options, great music while we hung out, attentive table service, and just disappointed that it was my first time here. The Lobster Mac and Cheeseburger were phenomenal. Cons: The apps overall were meh. The pretzel sticks were sub-par. A bit hard and not anything that impressed me. The serving size of Mozzarella sticks were wimpy. The staff gets four stars, but the food only got three in my opinion. I had the shrimp tacos. I liked the minced jalapeño or Serano peppers in the guacamole. It gave it a nice heat, but not too much, and the sauce was pretty good as well, but the thing that bothered me was the shrimp were so salty. Unfortunately this is not the barn I knew and loved before the new style took over. I would not recommend the barn anymore as a good place to go for dinner. Came for dinner on a Monday night at the recommendation our hotel. I had the South of the Border Steak Bowl and a friend had a filet. We were both very pleased, meals were well prepared and the portions were ample. The entire staff went out of their way to be sure our evening was most enjoyable. It was interesting picking a place to meet my friend. He suggested the Barn so I looked it up. 3 stars? Not so hot. But then I read all of the top reviews and they were all 4-5 stars! So how in the world did this place end up so low? So I said I would give it a shot, and away we went to the Barn. First thoughts: Plenty of seating room and options. They offered bar, high-top, or table, and we went to the table (not really caring either way). Our waiter stopped by frequently for drinks, food orders, drink refills, more orders... never ushered us out even after we finished. So service is a plus here and so is atmosphere - it's big but there's plenty to see and TV to watch. There is a medium-sized draft beer menu but with a little of every variety, so whatever style you like, it'll be on tap in some form. For the food, I went with BBQ just because. There are a TON of options here, and that's one slight downside - as Food Network used to always say, having too many options was a negative and something the owner should try to reduce. I wasn't expecting Southern style BBQ but I did get good northern style (Dinosaur-esque) with my mac & cheese starter (the Country one with with pulled pork/cornbread) and my ribs main course. I asked for both BBQ sauces on the ribs and while they had to commit to one for the meat (the standard South 40 BBQ) they provided a dip of the other one (mustard molasses) which I used with the cornbread and sides. Impressions: Gemelli is a bit of an odd choice for the pasta in the mac. Especially with the pork/cornbread, I would like to have seen a straighter pasta used. It was heavy on the cheese sauce, which is fine in my book! but not quite balanced for some. I enjoyed the mustard BBQ sauce quite a bit, something different and sorta Southern (South Carolina). Cornbread portions were tiny, so that's one area I'd ask the Barn to improve on, but at least I ordered two things with it! Barn fries were also really good and plenty of them to dip into that mustard sauce. The pork itself was meaty, good amounts overall, just not quite that slow-cooked tender Southern-style BBQ that I don't expect this far north anyway. So, the verdict? STRONG 4 stars and a place I will look to come back to, save some room for dessert, and see if I can nail that 5th star down with my next meal. read more

It's one of those restaurants that I always wanted to try and then the pandemic started and we held off until we recently placed a takeout order and I am so disappointed we waited this long. While the food isn't gourmet, it is delicious! It is perfect for a comfy night with the family. And the portions were nice and large- enough for my husband for the night and dinner and a snack the next day for me. When we were here years ago we kind of only thought Rockaway River Barn was just ok. However, we gave them another try this last fall and my meal was fantastic. One of my goals this past year was to try some things I might not have normally ordered and I did that here wwhen I ordered the Sauerbraten dinner. Wifey had shrimp tacos and my son had a short rib grilled cheese with with tots-- and they both liked their meals, but I really enjoyed mine a LOT. It wasn't quite as good as my German grandfather used to make, but it was delicious. They also have a very good beer menu and the decor and ambiance are very inviting. Really glad we gave them another shot because it was a great meal, with excellent service and we had a great time seated near the fireplace. We'll be back. read more

My clients picked this spot to get lunch so they ordered and I picked it up. When I arrived I parked in their lot. I walked in and told the man my name. This place is kind of expensive so be prepared. Another man had a huge box and plopped it in front of me. I struggled a bit to pick it up and when I finally did he then asked if I needed help. I visited the barn on April 12th and was very disappointed. I am a wheelchair/walker user and found the state of this restaurant on that day very unaccessible. When I pulled into one of the three handicap accessible parking spots, I noticed that one was occupied by multiple stacks of tables and chairs. I took the middle spot while a woman pulled into the remaining spot right after me. She had no handicap placard in her window or license plate. It seems like she either worked there or was hosting an event since she had flowers in the back of her van. Once I got out, I had to jump up on the sidewalk since both curb cuts were blocked on both sides. To my surprise, the walkway was also blocked due to more tables, chairs and an umbrella. Thank God I had someone with me to move things so I could get around it. We were eating outside so when we finished, I thought it would be easier to walk around via the sidewalk along the outside patio. I was wrong...now I found a firepit and stacks of wood blocking the remaining sidewalk. I have been going to the Barn forever including the one in Randolph without any issues. This experience does make me really sad since I generally like this place but I can not return due to the lack of accessibility and cluelessness from the staff. I hope this review helps bring awareness to the accessibility issue and the barn tries harder to be inclusive to everyone. read more

I've been there a few times and the food is always very good. It was the first time I sat outside and it was so nice. The service was not good. The waiter took a long time to come and take our order. Then once we got our food, he never came back to ask us if everything was OK or if we needed anything else. Once we were finished, we sat there for at least 40 minutes and he never brought the check. I had to go inside and ask the hostess to get him to bring us the check. He finally brought the check and then came back to get the payment. He asked at that time if I needed any change and I said no. I was pulling out of the parking lot and he came out to my car and said you forgot your change. I said I don't get any change. He said oh I thought you did. He did that to be sarcastic because I left him a really lousy tip. I wish I would have gotten his name, but I didn't. I will go back there but hopefully do not get him as a waiter again. read more
