We stayed one night at this B&B. I have never stayed at a B&B and was really excited to give one a try for a quick romantic getaway to St. Augustine. It is located on a residential street just blocks from the historic district. Check in was a breeze...Katie was very friendly and accommodating. She said that we were scheduled for the 9:30 seating for brunch the next morning. The office area is the same area where breakfast is served. Very quaint and cute - exactly what I was picturing in a B&B. We went down to our room on the ground level. All 6 rooms are on the ground level with access to the outside. Our room was the Garden Mist on the back patio. It was so cute with its 4 poster king size bed, wet bar with refrigerator, microwave and coffee maker. The bathroom was small but had a shower, toilet and sink - all you need. They provided soaps, shampoos and lotion. The bed was very comfortable and the A/C cold. We slept so well, we almost missed brunch! We headed upstairs to brunch and Katie was our server and Chelsea cooked our meal. Food was excellent and service was even better! We loved our stay! Can't wait to stay at another B&B as I'm told that this one is a bit unique...they accept kids and pets and all rooms open to the outside instead of a common area. But I would definitely stay here again as well! read more

Stayed in the Tidewater room this past weekend for two nights. Two other couples that are friends stayed in the Homewood (2 bedroom). I was very pleased with The Saragossa Inn, the staff and the attention we received. Gibbs made a very nice exception and waived the two night minimum for our friends that were not able to stay a second night in Saint Augustine. Upon arrival, we were greeted by Cheri who was very cheery and welcoming. She offered tons of suggestions of places to try in the area and made herself readily available at all times. Our room (Tidewater) was located in the back of the inn and was perfect! It was clean, smelled so nice and the bed was very comfortable! As a guest at the inn, you are also served a very taste three course gourmet breakfast which is included in your stay. The inn is located about 3 blocks from St George Street making it a quick 5-10 minute walk away. I highly recommend this inn to couples and anyone looking for a nice place to stay when visiting Saint Augustine. read more

This is the first review I have ever written, so I want to make it clear I'm not someone that constantly complains. That being said, this was the worst hotel/bed breakfast I have ever had. Checked into our room by simply calling the inn and was directed to open then door and just go in and they keys would be inside on a table. Contactless due to COVID, I'm assuming. All good so far easy process. We are in our room just long enough to put our stuff away and then head out. As I'm walking out I like the inside door lock and close it. As we are talking on the porch I notice the door knob that l locked does not have a key hole. I try to open the door and realize I'm locked out. So unless you specifically pay attention to the door you would not know that you can only lock the dead bolt and be able to get back in. Not a big deal since it's a bed and breakfast, I assume the owner or staff can come unlock it. I call and explain the situation and the owner proceeds to tell me there is no way I could have locked the door, basically calling me a liar and an idiot. He then tells me he will call me back. He calls back and tells me that the locks had been changed and he was unaware and that I was right. He says there is someone on their way to come unlock the door. I ask how long and it's 10-15 minutes. Keep in mind it's a Friday night so we are ready to go enjoy our vacation. I ask why am I having to wait when this was not my fault and explain that I'm now irritated about the situation, especially after having been called a liar. You would think since it's a bed and breakfast someone would be on sight to resolve any number of issue that the guest might have. He proceeds to start yelling at me and tells me that I'm no longer welcome at his inn and that I owe him an apology. I did not make any threats or swear. I'll admit I was irritated and let him know I thought the situation was wrong. So now we are waiting for the housekeeper who finally shows up and doesn't have the right type of equipment to open the door, even after I told the owner what they would need to open it. So after over an hour of waiting we are able to get into the room. We went in and got our stuff and left immediately. I have never been talked to so disrespectfully by a bed and breakfast owner or anyone in hospitality. Tidewater room was my residence for 2 nights. My first time at a B&B so I was thrilled with the whole experience. I enjoy historic homes and this was a treat. The room was good size, quiet, comfortable bed and views of the well -maintained gardens abound. Excellent location to walk to shops and a wonderful breakfast brunch is served in the parlor. I cannot believe that I have not written a review for The Saragossa Inn on here. We have been staying there every time we visit St.Augustine since around 2008. At least 9 times. The last few times we have missed Gibbs, the innkeeper. But he has obviously taught his staff well. We have stayed in most of the rooms . Southwind, Homewood, Gardenmist and Tidewater. While they are all great, our favorites are the Southwind and the Homewood at the front of the house. The only thing that is a bit bothersome is if you have neighbors that are smokers or are just loud, since you do share the porch. On our most recent visit, we stayed in the Homewood, there were times that I would open our front door and the smell would just drift into the room. Also, the porch furniture is right by the window and they would sit out there having loud conversations while smoking their cigarettes. The rooms are all clean. And the beds are all super comfy with nice soft bedding. All the rooms have their own entrance from the outside. We LOVE having our own entrance and not having to tiptoe into a house as to not disturb others. We also like having our car parked right there. I like walking two blocks and being in the middle of everything. Then walking two blocks back and being away from it all. The breakfasts aren't at o'dark thirty. For us that is great since we are not early risers. You have a choice to dine at 9 or 10. The food has always been very good. While I don't eat eggs, I have never walked away hungry. Three courses include fruit, entree & dessert. The Saragossa is a given whenever we visit St. Augustine. read more

It was like being at home! Very comfortable. Due to Covid there was no "breakfast" but when we arrived there were pre-packaged snacks, muffins, fruit, yogurt, cereal, coffee, orange juice, milk, and water! That is more than we could eat in a week! It was wonderful to have it right there at our fingertips from the moment we arrived! The grounds had plenty of places to sit and enjoy the evening. Although it was at full capacity, it was very quiet. Customer service was fantastic. I highly recommend The Saragossa Inn and can't wait to stay there again. read more

If, instead of a Yelp review, this was a conversation with one of my guy friends, I probably wouldn't describe this place as totally adorable. It is, mind you, but gushing about a romantic getaway weekend at a bed and breakfast that I'd also describe as "just lovely" wouldn't naturally weave itself into one of our discussion threads. Its cleanliness, reasonable price, and location would be (accurately) rattled off before moving on to topics of Breaking Bad or bourbon. Inanity rules the roost of guy conversations, I suppose. My girlfriend and I stayed in the Honeysuckle room, a name that has the distinction of being uncomfortable to mention to parents and guy friends alike. "Cozy" often gins up the more accurate "small," but the real estate agent language on Saragossa's web site is true: it was smaller, but the space we had was crafted to be distinct and unique. One of the chains may have offered a few more square feet, but the hospital room aesthetics of a Best Western fall hilariously short of lodging in a neighborhood you'd want to live in and a room you almost don't want to leave. Gibbs, the owner/innkeeper, worked small wonders in an equally small kitchen for a three course brunch that'd be worth a visit on its own merits. Nice and quiet since it's a couple blocks off the main road but easy 5 minute walk to shops and restaurants. Great hospitality! July 2016, We came back for our wedding. Gibbs and his staff were incredible in helping me make my wedding vision come to light. He arranged a gorgeous and delicious dinner on the top floor which was intimate for our guests. He ordered the perfect cake. Gibbs was our notary and chef and his staff took excellent care of us. My husband and I feel so blessed to have done this at the Saragossa. My husband and I stayed there on July 6th thru July 8th for our 10th anniversary. We were both extremely disappointed in the room we stayed in. The bed was very comfortable; however, the room was so small and we had no place to put our luggage and it was dirty especially the bathroom. The towels were musty smelling.... so nasty. The breakfast consisted of fresh fruit which was nice but the main course was french toast with no protein (some bacon or sausage would have been nice) and then we had apple pie....all carbs. If you like sweets for breakfast, this is your place! Also, their tap water is nasty tasting ....they have absolutely no bottled water on hand which I found odd. All and all, we expected more for this pricey place. Next time we are staying in the Courtyard Marriott and we'll go out for breakfast!!! read more

CHARM. CHARM. CHARM. What a wonderful place to stay! My wife and another couple, booked a couple of rooms for the Fourth of July holiday weekend, and we were thrilled that we found this place. While being a traditional B&B, each room (at least the ones that I saw) had their own exterior entrance. We stayed in the Palm Breeze room & our friends stayed in the adjacent Honeysuckle room. Each room was decorated in a different theme, and it was evident that the owner took great pride in making the most out of each small room. The lighting was a little on the dark-ish side, and i was often wanting there to be a light on the ceiling fan. Our bed was tall and required steps to embark onto its cloud-like platform. The bed & linens were so comfortable that I had the best night's sleep in a very long time. The towels were big and fluffy, and smelled like fresh fabric softener. The shower provided constant hot water, but I wasn't a fan of the shower head that supplied a rain-like soaking as opposed to a strong jet stream, (this wasn't a water-pressure issue, just a shower head feature). Unlike many inns, there were plenty of accessible power outlets to charge your electronics. Upon arriving, we were unclear where to park, much to the dismay of the neighbors. Once we did find the correct driveway, the parking lot was only large enough the accommodate the amount of guests, and was a tad cramped. Check-in was a breeze, and the staff were all very pleasant. The Saragossa Inn is located in a residential neighborhood, just two blocks from the Historical District. This is walking distance from shops, taverns, restaurants and tours. We loved walking from our B&B, and taking in the views of all the charming little homes along the tree-covered streets along the way. The B&B provides breakfast to its guests in the converted attic of its home. The space is very small, (think Anne Frank), and only has three or four tables, but it is decorated in such a charming way, that I do recommend that you enjoy a breakfast up there at least once. Because the space is limited, breakfast times are split among the guests at either 9:30a or 10:30. While this didn't seem like a problem at first, we did find ourselves waiting around very hungry for our 9:30 time-slot. The breakfast, on the other hand, was a tad of a disappointment. I have read so many wonderful things about the delicious food served, that we endured our hunger in the expectation of a culinary treat. Unfortunately, what we received was a half of potato covered in canned sausage gravy. I understand that each day they serve something new, but we opted to eat elsewhere for remainder of our stay instead of chancing another disappointment. I would recommend that the host provide a notice of what will be served for next day's breakfast. During our breakfast, we did finally meet our host. He is such a friendly, albeit quirky gentleman, and it was a pleasure not only talking with him, but even listening to him interact with the other guests in the room. He definitely added to the charm of this quaint establishment. While we normally stay at another local B&B while in St. Augustine, I would not hesitate to stay here again, and I recommend that others stay at the Saragossa Inn. read more

Our gorgeous king size bed sat on the left hand side of the quaint pink Saragossa inn. The room was tidy and smelled great. Breakfast was served in their beautiful dining room on the second in three courses. The staff was delightful and my we were able to walk literally 5 minutes to downtown Saint Augustine! Checked into the Saragossa Inn at 3pm. Noticed the A/C wasn't pulling humidity out of room. A man was working outside so we asked his assistance. I assume he was Gibbs but he never introduced himself. Got the problem mostly fixed, still stuffy in the room but not intolerable. Went to dinner and Nights of Lights. Came back and was getting pajamas out of suitcase when something caught my eye. A huge cockroach!!! Three inches long. Crawling down the fireplace. It hit the floor with a thud and ran back into the fireplace. If you see a roach with the lights on then they are plenty more when the lights are off. We decided we couldn't sleep there and called Gibbs. He told me it was probably a palmetto bug. Being born and raised in Florida I know the difference. But did it really matter? Didn't want it crawling across my face at 2am. He then said "we could leave" and he would refund our deposit. I was shocked he offered no apology or to come spray or anything. When I requested an apology he yelled at me "WHAT DO YOU WANT ME TO DO". He continued to yell and act uncivilized so I hung up on him. It ruined our long weekend and we had to forfeit ghost tour tickets and plans with friends the next day but no apology. The Inn would be lovely with a new owner and a regular pest control service. read more

We stayed here for three nights and found it to be a great place to stay. It was on a very quiet street that was convenient to the historical area--just a couple of blocks to the center of things. The owner, Gibbs, was delightful and an excellent cook as well as a genial host. Breakfast each morning was delicious though having the first sitting at 9:30 led to a later start each morning than we are used to. Also, though it was not a problem for us, the 21 steps up to the breakfast room might be a problem for some folks. The price was right which we discovered when we checked the price of a B&B a block away and found that the price was double that at the Saragossa Inn. The ample parking in the rear was also appreciated. The neighborhood was a nice place to walk at any time of day. We would definitely return to the Saragossa Inn on future trips to St. Augustine. read more

first, I tried to call the B&B directly to make a reservation. A woman answered a simple "hello" and when I asked if it was the inn she flatly said "yes" . I expressed an interest in a particular weekend and she stated she was too busy to check and could I call back in an hour. I was trying to book a suprise get a way for my husband and I was at work on lunch. There appeared to only be one room left and I didn't want to miss it. I went to booking.com and reserved the room that way. The booking was supposed to be held with a $55 deposit, I hurriedly fill out the reservation with my credit card and went back to work. As I left work I received an email stating that my credit card couldn't be processed and to call the inn directly. This time a man answered. He began demanding I pay the full booking amount (almost $700) or to call booking.com and tell them I wanted to cancel (incurring a $55 fee). I explained that I did not want to cancel, I just wanted to update my card info as I was not sure why my card would not have processed but that it was not possible for me to pay the full amount a month and a half before our stay. The main belittled me and said I obviously couldn't afford to stay there etc. Lastly, I called booking.com. Not one but two separate agents called this establishment to explain that he could not by their policies of their agreement demand I pay in full. He hung up on both of them. Thankfully they did get my cancellation fee waived and emailed me similar inns in the area. We have selected and booked directly with the Penny Farthing inn. We are really looking forward to staying anywhere but here . Furthermore the desk clerk at the new inn was overly helpful and pleasant and accommodating. It did end up costing us a bit more but I'm glad to pay it. read more

I have stayed in several B&B's before and I have never been treated so badly as I was at the Saragossa B&B in St Augustine. I arrived there at the check-in time which is 3:00. No one was there to check us in. We waited 1/2 an hour and called the owners and left a message that was never returned. An employee finally arrived after 4:00. We were tired, hot and needed the facilities but we had no room. I had a question concerning my room since it did not look like the one I reserved so I asked the waitress to please check with the owners and have them call me. We never got a call back. The room we were in smelled awful, it was dirty and the bed sank on the sides. Needless to say we did not sleep well there. You have to wait for their free brunch until 9:30 and not a minute before. This is very inconvenient if you're hungry in the morning and want to get going earlier. I wrote an email to the owner when I got home and asked him why he never returned my calls. His reply was extremely rude and no apology was offered. I would never stay there again and would not recommend this place to anyone. read more

Families BEWARE!!!! The owner's motto is "you are welcome to leave." (Also see review posted by Laura on 12/7/14). I do not write reviews very often, but felt so strongly about this situation that I thought I had an obligation to warn others. My family visits Saint Augustine several times a year. It is our favorite vacation spot. We have stayed at numerous hotels, condos and bed and breakfasts through the years and have always had wonderful experiences. We are well aware that most of the bed and breakfast establishments do not allow children. When I made a reservation at the Saragossa Inn, I specifically told them we were reserving the room along with our cousins. I made sure to tell them we would bring our children. The lady that helped me make the reservation did not ask how many children or what their ages were. It seemed they did not care. The room that I reserved had 2 separate rooms and shared a bathroom. I thought all was well..... We checked in on a Friday night. On Saturday morning around 10:30am, I walked with my husband and children through the little garden outside in order to get our brunch. Let me emphasize that we were OUTSIDE in BROAD daylight in the middle of the day. There were dogs barking and children playing outside. I have two children. It was a gorgeous happy day. While we were walking, my husband started to horseplay with our 9 year old son. My son let out a yelp/laughter. While his yelp might have been louder than normal, I did not think much of it since we were not in a library or sacred sanctuary. To my dismay and surprise, the moment that I opened the door to the room where we were supposed to have our breakfast (and before I could even set foot into the room), the first thing I heard was a very rude "your children need to be quiet!" I was shocked. It was a young lady who snapped at me. She looked like she could have been my daughter. I didn't understand the rudeness. She could have let me enter the room first and then have a reasonable conversation with me. I quickly closed the door and backed my family out of such a hostile situation. My husband was so upset about the whole ordeal that he went back to talk to the young lady. He wanted to let her know that her behavior was very rude. She was not interested in anything he had to say. Instead, she kept telling him that we were "welcomed to leave." We later spoke with the owner "Gibbs." We found out that the rude young lady was his daughter. That explains everything!!! THE OWNER'S DAUGHTER!!! She ran the place. Gibbs of course had to defend his daughter's honor (which is expected and kind of cute). He also told us we were "welcome to leave".... I guess every parent loves their children - even if their children are spoiled and rude. This ruined our trip at first. But we moved to a property that welcomed us and treated us with hospitality, kindness and respect. It all turned out for the best. If you have a family...have children....or want to laugh and talk beyond a whisper...DO NOT COME HERE!! read more
