Great location - walked to two restaurants for two dinners- almost right across the street from the Lightner Museum. The staff at the Inn were all very nice - the breakfasts were very good. Like almost all B&B's there are drawbacks. We were on the 2nd floor and had to lug our suitcases up the stairs. One of them wasn't too bad but the 2nd was very heavy. The Inns decor was British and nicely decorated. Our bedroom was comfortable and there was a private deck outside our room. The bathroom was on the tiny side, with the sink in the actual bedroom. The lighting was a little tough for putting on makeup but overall we would recommend this 1829 Inn. read more

We had tried three of the four B&B's on Cedar St. Cedar House, Peace and Plenty, and Journeys End. all 5 starts ( very high end ) you feel like you are staying in a luxury Inn. Now for my experience at Penny Farthing Inn......We wanted to do a short get-away. This was the only Inn on Cedar St. that we had not tried. I called (four) times, never an answer, this should have been my warning. I wanted to ask questions. I finally sent an e-mail. Off street parking was a big issue for us. While it is true they have off street parking, its really for smaller cars only. We had issues with parking the Trundra. There was another couple with an Expedition. This was a huge issue. If we were there then they couldn't get out, and vice-versa. by that point we had decided that we were leaving..... so we let them have our spot. This is the BIG issue.........No Ice ! No bottled water, or soft drinks....not even an ice bucket in the room, or mini frig. They stated " We don't advertise that we have ice" that is true......you just expect it in a Nice B & B. I am a type #1 Diabetic......from youth. with out insulin ( I die ) Insulin, needs to be cool, or it dies. We did not realize this until after dinner when we got back to the room. We started looking for the ice machine / Guest Frig. There was nothing to be found. We called.....no answer, BUT someone did call back in a very few minutes......The Lady explained that there was no ice machine, no bottled water, or soda......to be fair there was cold water from the coffee maker in the dinning room. Just not what we thought we would get. We left about 7:30, it worked out ok ......this way the Expedition could park with-out blocking other cars I guess this is really our own fault.......as they stated in an e-mail " I should have told them in advance" very true......you just don't think in Nice B&B that you need to disclose intimate medical issues......I NEVER have not had ice, or a mini frig. at any other B&B that I have stayed in the past. Please note they did bill us for the full stay, I can only guess they really need the money, and as they implied ....this was my fault. We will be back to st. Augustine ! This city is a real blast. We loved this place, first the owner Richard and his son Justyn were very friendly and welcoming, they really make you feel at home and comfortable. The house is beautiful and well maintained. One of the best aspects is the close location to Historic St. Augustine, almost everything is a short walk away. We rarely needed to use our car. most days we just walked everywhere The daily breakfast is made fresh and delicious, great coffee and tea's available. In the afternoon, they put out wine and snacks. Oh... there is also a nice decanter of the local wineries' (San Sabastian) delicious port in your room. We will come back and we highly recommend this place. read more

This is a very nice Inn, located in one of my favorite cities. A Victorian style built in the late 1800s, the Inn is nicely decorated. The inside dining area is small, holding about 5 two tops. Additional dining is available on the main, outside patio. The Inn offers a wine and cheese service from 4-5 pm daily. We did not take advantage of this offer, but I am sure that it is very nice. The rooms are situated inside the main building and in a small building or two adjacent to the main patio. I believe that all rooms have a balcony. We stayed in Catherine's Bedchamber, which is located on the second floor in the main building and was very nice. It offers a king size bed and a jacuzzi tub-shower. The room is pretty small, but comfortable enough. Our patio was large and offered a swing, a comfortable chair, as well as a small table and two chairs. However, it is not completely private as guests in the suite above pass through taking the stairs to their room. Also, the patio for the guests room adjacent to ours was situated outside our suite windows. Even respectful guests, holding relatively quiet conversations can be heard from our bed. For this reason, I would prefer to stay in a different room. The toiletries were sparse, which is rare for most Inns and B&Bs. The complimentary breakfast was very good. (French Toast one morning and Eggs Benedict the other). There appeared to be no fresh decaf coffee available, which is a little surprising given Inns tend to attract older patrons, many of whom are supposed to avoid caffeine. Service was mixed. Richard (the owner/manager) is awesome. He is friendly, personable and attentive. He makes his guests feel appreciated and right at home. The young woman who handed breakfast service was also excellent. However, our chamber service was not up to par, especially for an Inn that generally sets a high standard for itself. After our room was serviced we noticed that the glasses that we used to drink some wine were left untouched and remained dirty. Also, the tiny shampoo bottles that we used were not replaced. Basically, the room service amounted to making the bed. None of the shortfalls that we noted were significant and I certainly would recommend the Inn. However, with some attention to details and with some enhancements, the Inn would easily qualify for a 5 star rating. read more

My husband had surprised me with a trip to St. Augustine and chose this Inn for its quaintness, the fact that the rooms had outside seating, and it's close proximity to all the wonderful places we would visit. We were greeted by Richard who explained the aspects of the Inn, and showed us to our room, The Catherine. We had a king size bed, a settee, a small TV, and a whirlpool bath. The room was comfortable and cozy. Our outside area had a small table and chairs, a swing and another chair. The location of the Inn is perfect. We walked everywhere and felt perfectly comfortable and safe. Breakfast both days we were there was good. French toast one day and eggs Benedict another. If I had one thing to change, it would be the fact that the room next to us had their outside seating area on the wall that was next to our bed, which had 2 windows. When we were in our room, we could hear everything they said, and trying to take a late afternoon nap was impossible due to the noise. Perhaps a different room would be a better choice. I wasn't overly impressed with housekeeping. When our room was cleaned, they didn't remove the dirty glasses, or supply us with any more shampoo. They initially had nothing but shampoo, which seemed a little odd when most places provide body wash, hand cream, etc. Most aspects were perfect, and with a few tweaks, this would be a 5 star. read more

My boyfriend and I recently visited St. Augustine and loved staying at the Penny Farthing. We arrived in town early and they were gracious enough to let us park our car in the lot even if the room wouldn't be ready for another few hours. When we did check in we were shown to our room and given the key. The property kind of feels like a treehouse! It's adorable. It was cold and rainy when we were there but the outside porch looked like a great place for breakfast. Inside our room we found brandy waiting which was a nice touch. Our room was tiny but it had a kitchen and a TV. If you are a larger person, beware. My boyfriend is 6'2 and he hit his tow getting into bed because his side of the bed was close to the wall. The bathroom was also small. They had a wine and cheese happy hour at 4 or 4:30, which was a good snack. Breakfast the next day was the star of the show! We were served ham, egg and cheese sandwiches, fruit and coffee. My one complaint was the bed in our room. For some reason when we got in it was slippery, could've been the material of the sheets, but neither of us slept well that night. Other than that I would recommend this place for your trip to St. Augustine. It's a perfect location; we really enjoyed being able to make trips back and forth from the tourist areas to the inn. read more

Ok this is the most haunted place in st Augustine lol. We made many mistakes and it's our fault that we summoned up some kind of conjuring situation but really nice stay otherwise! Lmao. My boyfriend at the time gifted me 2 nights Over the summer in this beautiful bed and breakfast for my birthday. We changed the date due to a work event and Richard was kind enough to accommodate. However... we changed rooms due to the date switch. I wish I remembered the name of the room but maybe it's Elizabeth? In any event beautiful place, Richard Is very nice, but make no mistake if you stay in this room on a full moon and hang out in the sitting room at midnight you will experience some paranormal stuff. We mentioned to Richard we were considering doing a ghost tour and he said don't bother just sit in the sitting room at night . I didn't really believe in any of this until it happened and I was scared to death until it stopped happening abruptly at 5am the day of our departure. What a great find in Saint Augustine! My son & I truly loved this Inn. It was the first stop on our "haunted inn" adventures:) While we didn't see any ghosts;) We did thoroughly enjoy our stay in the Katherine Room! You can tell the man who owns this Inn, and runs it exclusively on his own, has really put his heart and soul into his work. My son really loved our eggs Benedict breakfast made by him. We had a girls trip to St Augustine and chose Penny Farthing B&B for our stay. We loved our room in the Attic. It was so adorable and came complete with a little boy ghost that I called Tommy . Michelle was so sweet and informative. She talked with us about the Inn and about St Augustine and all it's charms. What a beautiful and wonderful Anniversary weekend we spent at Penny farthing Inn. We stayed in the Cambridge Room which was Absolutely Perfect. The owner met us at check in and gave us a tour and showed us our room. She even had champagne on ice for us to celebrate our Anniversary. They had his and her robs in the room for us, which was a Beautiful Touch. The breakfast was delicious and had a very sweet and friendly lady serving us. Stayed here last night & loved it! We were warmly greeted by David and offered a glass of wine. We stayed in the Buckingham room, which was decorated with nice accents and quite cozy. We enjoyed a touch of sherry there. Room was very clean. He suggested some great sights and eats for us. We had dinner at Preserved, his suggestion and only a short walk, which I highly recommend. Then, this morning he & his daughters made a lovely eggs Benedict & fruit breakfast for us. My only minor frustration (and it's small) was that our room was hot when we went to sleep, but it cooled off throughout the night. Our stay was quick but lovely. A quaint bed and breakfast walking distance from everything in historic St Augustine, the Penny Farthing Inn is a delightful choice for short stays in town. The owners/managers are friendly and got us situated in the Catherine Room upon arrival. It's a king sized bed with a large jet tub in the bathroom. The tub didn't seem quite fully cleaned upon arrival and there was a slight layer of dust in the bedroom in certain areas. Nothing off putting, but noticeable. Breakfast is served 8:30-9:30. The two breakfasts we enjoyed were eggs Benedict and sausage and bread pudding. Both were well portioned meals, just the right amount to get fueled for your day's schedule. There is wifi, cable, and a small assortment of DVDs to choose from for in room entertainment. The bed sheets were incredibly soft and from Costco, so my wife and I have a shopping trip to make soon. I took my daughter to St. Augustine to celebrate her 16th birthday. It was a relaxed mom-and-me vacation. I'm so happy that I decided to stay at a bed and breakfast instead of a traditional hotel. Our stay at the PennyFarthing Inn was magical and helped make her birthday truly memorable. The owner was kind, helpful, and funny. He assisted us and gave us advice on what to do and where to visit. We loved our accommodations and greatly enjoyed the scrumptious breakfasts. The Inn is in a great location, and we were able to walk throughout the entire historic area with ease. My daughter and I loved the history of St. Augustine and the PennyFarthing Inn enhanced the historical aspect to our trip. The innkeeper was especially accommodating, even preparing an early breakfast for us. Excellent food! Free parking close to our room, a big plus. Nice porches for relaxing outside. On the last morning we were there breakfast was served on the back porch. Our room was very comfortable, and quiet due to the minimal activity in this neighborhood at night, so we slept great. We had previously stayed at a motel on Route 1 where the road noise at night was pronounced making for a fitful night's sleep. Visit the nearby Bantam Chef for their excellent (and famous) fish sandwich. Make the short trek to the Alligator Farm, well worth the price of admission. read more

Was looking forward to staying at this B&B while on vacation in Florida. The gentleman i spoke to was nice and accommodating on the phone when i originally called. After getting a future rate discount email, i called and asked about the discount since i already booked. He said he would apply discount...So far so good. I then broke my heel a few weeks before check in and asked if they had access ability for me. Gentleman told me he would move me to a first floor room. Great again so far. Upon check in the day we arrived, it was a narrow gravel road to park (hard to walk on with crutches). Was told it was 4 small steps to get inside (very steep and difficult to get up). Then after being shown some amenities and charging my card, i was told we were NOT on first floor after all! The lady who was there working asked if they wanted the people in the first floor room to move. I said No..we were told we were on first floor already. After speaking on phone with someone else, they could not accommodate us. I got a refund and left. Never again will i want to go to this inn and i implore you not to go there either. Bad service, bad communication. If i could rate it a zero i would! read more

The place is so charming and romantic. Each room is supplied with some nice English sherry, and if that is now enough, you can go downstairs for a cup of tea, a glass of whine,or port. The owner is incredibly sweet. I felt like I was visiting England, really. The location is very good, right in the old town area. We really enjoyed our stay here. We went for a Friday / Saturday night stay during the Night of Lights. The house was beautifully decorated for Christmas. There is hot water for tea 24/7, and a really nice snack display in the afternoon with cake, fresh vegetables, and cheese and crackers. Wine is also available from the afternoon into the evening. Every room has two small glasses and some sherry in a beautiful glass decanter. All of the owners and staff were friendly and suggested local places for drinks and food. They also let me bring a breakfast tray upstairs to my husband one morning because he wasn't feeling good. Breakfast was excellent both days. The first day was bread pudding with a piece of sausage and a yogurt parfait. The second day was sausage quiche with potatoes and fresh fruit. We stayed in the Victoria room. It has it's own private balcony with two rocking chairs and a hammock. We liked sitting out here and listening to the church bells. You can also see the towers of the Lightner museum from this room, but the immediate street view is of an office building. The room was mostly clean, but unfortunately there was some dust in the corners and on the baseboards and the walls had small holes every so often where a picture or something else once was there. The wallpaper really needed to be updated. Also, there were a lot of knickknacks on the tables in the room which made it difficult for me to lay out my things. These things are small, and while they would by no means prevent me from returning to the Penny Farthing Inn they did detract from the overall appeal of the room. read more

My wife and I really liked the charm of the old historic home. We really liked the breakfasts that weren't huge but seemed to satisfy​ our appetite. Richard the new owner is very pleasant and well suited to being the owner. Here are​ some areas that could use some improvement, (The Bed) The bed was hard as a ​ rock, both of us had trouble sleeping due to how hard the bed was. We stayed in the Victoria room. During the day the air conditioning temperature was nice and cool, at night it seemed fairly warm to us. Now,​ this is a problem many old bed and breakfast suffer from, no way to accommodate​ the sleeping temperature of each individual​ guests. My solution rather than an expensive​ retrofit, I would strongly consider adding standup plugin air conditioners in each room. So two things. The hard bed and not being able to control the temperature in our room were the only things preventing us from returning​ and leaving a 5-star​ review. read more

Definitely an amazing Bed & Breakfast in St. Augustine! We stayed in Penny's Attic during our wedding weekend. The room has a lot of character (there's love notes and little green men to be found all around if you look closely) and our wedding photographer was inspired to incorporate its charm into the bridal photo shoot. The Attic has a long front porch that facilitated an ideal post-wedding day outdoor picnic in the cool March weather. We watched the sun go down behind the spires of Flagler from the highest vantage point in the building as we ate in total privacy. Breakfasts there will not disappoint! I had four of them and each day was different. There's also a happy hour of wine, cheese, cookies and crackers that we sampled on our first two days there (it would've been all four days had we not been otherwise scheduled for major life events!). If you're prone to walking St. Augustine streets (and really you should be if you're physically able!), the Penny Farthing has the distinct advantage of being well-situated near many local sites of interest - the San Sebastián Winery, the Lightner Museum, Flagler College, and old St. George Street, among others. We were able to walk to our wedding venues (the Villa Zorayda and St. Augustine Distillery) with ease during day or really, really, late night. Frequent Ice Plant patrons will appreciate getting the option of a single short neighborhood street stroll on Cedar towards a very welcoming bed! The Penny Farthing really shines in the details - an attic with a hot tub, ice buckets, WiFi, British charm, lit stairwells/roofs that stand out from afar when walking up the quiet street, and an accommodating staff that's always looking to enhance the experience of your stay. Night one we received a great dinner recommendation. On our wedding night, we found champagne, chocolate strawberries, and a card awaiting us. On our last day, we received a call shortly after departing. They had found our son's watch when cleaning and hurried to let us know by phone. Superior service! This is a great little bed n' breakfast in St. Augustine. It's just a block or two west of the tourist hubs, which means you don't feel overwhelmed by the writhing masses of poorly-dressed humanity, nor do you feel like you'll have to walk forever in the searing Florida heat to reach them. The owners are very nice and accommodating people with delightful attitudes and accents. We had two very tasty breakfasts there, even though they tried to sneak ham into my croissant (I'm a vegetarian) on the first day. Luckily, my fiancée spotted it just in time, selflessly devouring it before I could. She's so thoughtful. We stayed in the 'Dawn' room, which comes with its own little balcony area with a cute little swinging bench and chairs. It's beautiful, really. What makes it even better is that swing is where I proposed to the love of my life (she said 'yes,' of course, which is why this review is positive and upbeat, rather than deranged howling). The room itself has a nice whirlpool bathtub which we filled with an ungodly amount of bubbles, as required by the Clichéd Tourist Mistakes guidebook we follow religiously. There's also a lot of cute knick-knacks and paintings and such. It really feels like a home, rather than an impersonal cookie-cutter suite. Food's tasty, people are nice, rooms are pretty, location is perfect. What more do you want? Go take a romantic vacation already. read more

The breakfast was amazing, the Attic was wonderful, and we extended our stay an extra night. Dave and Marie have so many touches that added to our stay. The journal in the attic is so romantic and amazing (leave it for others to enjoy). Ask about the military men in the attic. They have quite the history. The jacuzzi really helped us both unwind. They offer advice on places to go and things to see. We hadn't stayed at a b&b before and thoroughly enjoyed it. We felt like family. This place is WONDERFUL! It reminded us of the B & B we stayed at in England. We arrived a little before check in time and when we called, we received a call right back that Marie was on her way to let us in. Since there is ample outdoor furniture, we were able to use our computers and wait right on the front patio. Marie gave us a tour of the place, offered us a movie from a large selection of DVD and games and then we met more of her hospitable family every time we were in the common areas. The room itself was LOVELY! We stayed in the tree house and I highly recommend it if you want something romantic. We sat out on our private balcony in the evening and enjoyed the thunderstorm. There was wine and snacks and cookies available all afternoon as well as hot tea to stay or to go. In the morning, they accommodated food allergies and made a delicious breakfast. I can't say enough great things about this place and the hospitality. They literally have everything you would need an go above and beyond. We will be staying here anytime we are passing though. We stayed in the York room which I found elegant. It wasn't in the main part of the house but off the patio. We found it quiet enough although the walls seemed thin in the bathroom. Overall, it seemed private enough even with the French doors. The host had British hospitality. I enjoyed the Benedict breakfast and the wine that was setup in the afternoon to sip on at leisure. I thought the local handmade soap was a nice accent. The location was great. It was within a nice walking distance of the hubbub of old town but enough off the beaten path for relaxation. read more

For our 20th wedding anniversary we choose the fanning for our stay and boy no disappointment... Right in the historic district everywhere we wanted to go was either walking or trolley distance. Our room is amazing a Victorian feel. It had a spa tub to soak the day away and an outside porch to unwind. Breakfast was a treat and happy hour with snacks and assorted snacks was awesome. We just got back from a relaxing long weekend at the Penny Farthing, Marie and family made us feel at home and we really enjoyed our stay. Our room, The York, was the smallest, but perfect for just the two of us. The bathroom was really quite large complete with a jacuzzi tub. Right outside of the York is the common deck, but we were frequently the only ones out there sipping on wine or reading a book. After trekking all over town in the mornings it was nice to come back in the afternoons, sit out on the deck and enjoy some of the wine and snacks set out. The location was perfect, close enough to the main attractions that we never used our car. Breakfast, was delightful. Eggs Benedict, french toast, and quiche on the three days we were there. It was hard coming home to just yogurt. We would be so full that for lunch we ended up just grabbing a sandwich to split at a deli so we could still have room for dinner. My fiancée and I decided to spend my birthday in St. Augustine. We found The Penny Farthing Bed and Breakfast Inn to be very quaint and cozy. Our hosts, were very nice and accommodating. Marie went out of her way to make breakfast for us as we have specific food allergies. It is within walking distance to the historical downtown area and there is plenty of parking. Our room was great and very comfortable. We had a fantastic time and we will definitely stay at the Penny Farthing on our next visit! read more
