Bug bites infection

Cute place in a great location, however we stayed in the Camelot room where my wife who has MS suffered a severe cause of bug bites causing cellulitis and several visits to the doctor and emergency room. I would advise management to take care of all bedding immediately to prevent further such damage to their guests. We are going to pursue this with management

Cute little place with awesome decorations

This was a 5 star review up until our second night. Inn was really nice, loved the history, and cannot say enough about the staff. They're at least 6 stars in our book! Courteous, friendly, attentive, and always with a kind word and a smile. We tip our hats to you! The only things that kept this from 5 stars were out of their control. The main thing is the vent fan in the bathroom. Left it on for hours and the room and bathroom were still a spa. Could not get the humidity out and the windows were steamed up the whole time we were there. And the windows appeared to be locked shut. Made for a rather sticky night the second night. The fan control chain was gone from the ceiling fan, too. Along the line of the bathroom, was very dangerous getting in and out of the spa tub and no grip on the floor, had to hold the rail the whole time showering. Probably the bigger issue is the windows. Single pane glass. Thursday night was fine, quiet night. Friday night with the partying and the bands, insanely loud. Could hear every beat of the nearby bands and every conversation on Cuna. Then around 1:30am a half dozen (intoxicated) people gathered in the street right outside and stayed there TALKING VERY LOUDLY, YELLING AND LAUGHING, until almost 3am. We now knew why there were ear plugs and a white noise maker on the end table. Still didn't help, they were too loud. Aside from those things, bed was comfortable, breakfast was delicious, amenities were very good, staff was amazing, cookies and snacks were spot on, and the location couldn't be beat. Beautiful little place, love the courtyard seating, great staff, but if we visit again it would only be during the week. Unless you're part of the partying crowd until the wee hours of the morning, you'll at the least be hearing them.

Majestic, room 12

Cute bed and breakfast right in the historic district. The pros definitely outweigh the very limited cons with this bed and breakfast. I'll list the small cons first just to get them out of the way. Parking is a couple blocks away in a dirt lot. When it is raining that dirt lot floods. I ended up having to step in a huge puddle to get to the driver's seat - not fun. The lot usually has enough spots for everyone, but when we arrived we were told that people were illegally parked in the lot and the tow trucks were coming. We had to wait to be able to park in the lot, but it didn't take long for spots to open and that wasn't their fault. Luckily almost everything is super close so once you leave your car you probably won't need it again. In certain rooms you can hear music from a café nearby and it is loud. We were in room 12 and on Saturday it was blaring. They do equip the room with sound machines because they are aware of this. I didn't think it was a huge issue, I have ear plugs, but it drove my husband a bit insane. Again, I don't think this is a huge thing, but just be aware. Now that those minor cons are out of the way here are the pros. It is right in the middle of everything. We walked to tons of restaurants, shopping, and Ripley's Believe it or Not. It is one street off of St. George so you will be in the middle of everything. The staff is accommodating. Since I have gestational diabetes I can't eat a large number of carbs or fruit for breakfast. Since I'm Jewish, I don't eat pork. The first breakfast was strawberry soup, stuffed French toast, and bacon. They ended up making me scrambled eggs with spinach and cheddar. Everyone else's breakfast looked amazing, but mine got the job done. (I had the same breakfast two days in a row since they tend to love their carbs and pork here!) The rooms are nice. I really enjoyed the Jacuzzi tub. Being pregnant when we were there made even sitting somewhat uncomfortable so I definitely took advantage of that tub. They have both outdoor and indoor seating. When the weather is nice, it's great that they have courtyard seating. It is very serene being able to sit outside. The pricing is pretty good. I expected we would have to pay about $300 a night for a room, but this ended up being closer to $200. It was definitely on the cheaper side of options I researched. Overall I enjoyed my stay here.

Doesn't have the cozy feeling it use to. Great location, put could use a deep cleaning and just is missing the coziness it use to have.

With fresh fruit, bread board, juice, and coffee, there was more than enough to eat. They also hosted a social for the guests but the timing didn't work out for us to attend. It was quite the spread when we peaked in one night. We really enjoyed eating our breakfast outside on the large porch. The first day it was raining but we were covered so not an issue. After much thought, I would give Carriage Way Inn four stars. Carriage Way Inn does some things…read moreextremely well, some well, and some okay. I did learn this business was recently purchased by a company that owns numerous B&B's up the eastern states; hopefully that won't detract in the future. Upon arrival, a huge benefit is a dedicated parking area around back. Unless you drive a very large truck or largest SUV (e.g. a Suburban or F250) you'll have a spot. You should park and leave your vehicle. Saint Augustine is very walkable and Uber/Lyft are readily available, if necessary. Make no mistake; parking is premium in this town so a dedicated parking lot is a big plus. We arrived a little early but were greeted very warmly. Like most old B&B's, there is no elevator or lift (which we were aware of and is no problem for us). We were shown our room (Tourmaline) on the second floor and all typical questions were answered. The room, bed and bathroom were very comfortable. Great adjustable AC (a must in Florida), small flat screen tv (which we never turned on and neither should you), bathroom with very good shower and pleasant toiletries, comfy bed and good blinds to pull down for sleeping. A big negative to the room is the soundproofing. This room (Tourmaline) is right on the front of the house and it was the last weekend of a motorcycle gathering in not too far off Daytona. So we heard mid life crisis motorcycle riders and nearing elderlies on their horridly loud motorcycles off and on all weekend; both out and about and driving by the B&B. Not much the B&B can do except more soundproofing of the windows. It wasn't just the motorcycles, noise from loud car radios occasionally, too. The noise didn't ruin the weekend but did detract. I brought a white noise machine to help with sleeping and recommend it. The location of the B&B is phenomenal; centrally located and you can walk almost everywhere in downtown Saint Augustine. Importantly, we felt totally safe the entire time we visited. Saint Augustine is a very safe city; especially the tourist, populated and Flagler College areas. The B&B generously offers plenty of beverages downstairs to help yourself to. Water and cans of soda are available at all times. Wine, red and white, is set out to serve yourself in the late afternoon through mid evening. I believe I recall beer and hard seltzer, too. The snacks put out at happy hour were meh; just okay. But there were some deliciously scented fresh baked cookies in the afternoon. However, I've had much, much better snacks and happy hours at B&B's in Savannah, north Georgia and Charleston. The first floor sitting area is comfortable; plenty of small tables for sitting for snacks and breakfast; we never felt cramped. Minor glitch; the downstairs ice machine adjacent to the soda and water was broken most of the weekend. The Staff was apologetic and ice was set out and or provided by the downstairs Staff; but this was a minor annoyance. Of note, the rooms do not have little refrigerators. A nice addition might be an ice machine on the second floor (especially since that's where most of the rooms are located. Okay, now let's talk about the breakfast...We only ate it one morning, of two, because it was straight up lousy. Please know I am in no way a picky eater. The entree eggs were not good and I suspect they were most definitely not fresh cracked but powdered, frozen or premade. The plated side ham was barely eatable; it was extremely tough and salty. A B&B breakfast should be very good, if not memorable. This breakfast was shockingly subpar. Well, the coffee I made in the Keurig was fine and the server lady was pretty nice... In sum, I'm not sure I would stay at Carriage Way Inn again. Our stay was not bad but there are so, so many B&B's in Saint Augustine. Perhaps if Carriage Way radically upgrades the quality of the breakfast offering and sound proofs the rooms we'd return.
