Beware the communication with staff is abysmal. Never pick up their phones before, during, or after the stay. In addition, they added charges to my bill after having paid in full the week prior, and was charged a random amount on top of that, days before we even showed up. Booked here for the 27th, 28th and left the 29th of November. Paid through a third party which offered complementary wine, breakfast and parking. Upon the morning of the 28th we were told that we would not be getting breakfast and that we would not be getting the complementary wine. We made a complaint to the Owner Erica and we were met with unprofessionalism and negativity from her. Erica told us that they do not honor third party sites and that the third party site lied to us about the booking and they do not offer complementary items. The only positive outcome to this was meeting Galene and her doing her best to fix the issues that the property owner/manager would not. She provided us Breakfast on the morning of the 29th which was amazing. only giving 2 stars because the location is literally 5/5. not worth the price at all as far as room quality and breakfast, you're basically paying for the close and convenient location near St George street. Paid almost $300 for 1 night and it was beyond underwhelming. Hubby paid extra for champagne and strawberries to be set up in the room upon arrival for our anniversary and when we arrived, they weren't set up so after waiting 15+ minutes, my husband had to ruin the surprise and tell me that it was supposed to be in the room prior to our arrival. The door to the balcony was extremely hard to get open and closed, and they don't advertise that it's a balcony overlooking the literal parking lot in the back. Somebody was in our parking space when we arrived and luckily they let us park in someone else's assigned spot but if there was nowhere to park then we would be responsible for finding overnight parking.. The breakfast had us in shock and quite frankly pretty annoyed. They advertise on their website this amazing breakfast, gourmet style food and then we were served 1 single piece of avocado toast, 3 pieces of cantaloupe and 1/2 a portion of scrambled eggs.. we thought maybe it was just a starter course and so we asked and he told us that was it. We were still hungry after being served a literal toddler sized portion of food that we went and got breakfast afterwards. Should've just stayed at a hotel, even they have better breakfast than this $250+/night "bed and breakfast". Even the couple sitting next to us was disappointed in their meal and the price point. My mom and I had a wonderful time here! We stayed in the Martha Gellhorn room upstairs and it was nice and quaint. There weren't many rooms occupied so it was nice and quiet, but on the first night we could hear the tv of the room next to us so it seems as if the walls were pretty thin. Breakfast in the morning was always delicious though! They also provided snacks and wine downstairs after 3 but it was minimal and the wine tasted too cheap to drink. But that's to be expected of free wine I suppose. The location though was amazing though! We walked EVERYWHERE as we were right in the heart of downtown. So the location was perfect and the staff was all very friendly. We will definitely be staying here again if we are ever in town! read more

If you are thinking of staying here, forget it. Move on. This place is dysfunctional. First, we waited for 20 minutes for someone to check us in. We rang the doorbells of both houses several times. I finally walked around back and saw a woman cleaning and inquired about check in, and then she finally showed us to our room. The quality of their buildings and rooms was very disappointing. The stairs and porch are in disrepair. There were rips and stains on the cushions of the outdoor furniture. The room (Papa's Room) smelled terrible. You can hear the neighbors through the shared door. The water was shut off upon our arrival and there was non-stop banging in the room next door where plumbers and other construction workers were renovating. The couple staying in the room next to ours said it was the third day of constant renovation and banging from 10am unit 4pm. They were livid and had not enjoyed their stay. Accidents happen, but the ethical thing to do is to schedule repairs when you DO NOT have guests. People stay in B&Bs to relax and it was impossible to relax there during the day. We were told that there would not be construction the following day, but around 10am the next morning, the banging started again. The breakfast was disgusting. The water in our shower was not hot the next morning. The most shocking thing was when we woke up the next morning to find a man sleeping in the garage below us on a filthy mattress. I'm not sure what is going on there, but I gather it is not legal for someone to be sleeping there while guests are on the property. It was very concerning and highly inappropriate. Looks like the current owners are new as of 2020 and the place is not being run like before. read more

Stayed the night and it was very nice. It was actually quiet and peaceful at night considering it's located on Charlotte St. The room was very clean but very small. Fortunately we had a balcony to relax on because there is no couch unless you go downstairs to the shared room. Snacks were great along with drinks. The breakfast was great! This is our second time we've been to this wonderful place. We arrived at 3:00pm, which is also check in time, on a Spring Break week here in Florida. We were greeted by Jerry and immediately shown to our room and explained the ways of the house and the key points to our particular room. They have a meet and greet happy hour at 5:00 with wine served on the porch so you can meet the other patrons. Don't miss this, it makes it more fun in the morning when you know the people you're eating with. Speaking of food, Rod is a wonderful cook! Beautifully served by the owners and placed in front of you as if it was a piece of artwork and is very delicious. The rooms are updated and clean and in the heart of everything. Each room has a balcony that is shared with your neighbor (another reason to meet the people of the house). Rooms are small but not missing a bit of amenity down to towels assigned for makeup removal! We always feel as if we are visiting family when we come. It doesn't have a feel of a hotel but more of someone's home and is just as inviting regarding the wonderful owners and staff. The only negative is that we couldn't stay for two nights because they were sold out and we booked last minute. We also couldn't find a thermostat in our room but luckily we were there in early Spring so it wasn't that warm. My husband and I came to St. Augustine for a quick getaway. We booked the Hemingway House and we were not disappointed. Parking is in the back of the building. We were allowed our parking spot at 12 even when check in wasn't technically until 3 p.m. however, we were also allowed to check in early! This helped a lot. It doesn't hurt to ask when you get here. With that said, the location is absolutely wonderful. You are in the prime location to walk to all of the stores and restaurants around. You are a small distance from the fort and easily accessible to walk. Our room was small but perfect. After all, this is an older building not a Marriott. It adds to the unique structure of the stay. It was clean and they make sure to add extra detail to small things. We had towel swans on our bed and the toilet paper was shaped like a rose. I thought that was great. If they have time to add those touches then I know the room was cleaned thoroughly. The balcony from the room was excellent. It was quiet and nice to relax on after a stroll around town. Coming and going was easy. You're provided a key to lock up when you come and go. They also provided beverages that are self service and include beer and wine. The breakfast we had the next morning was pancakes and sausage. We were provided OJ, Coffee and water. The food was good and the service was exceptional. I would definitely recommend this place to future travelers. If you're looking for a romantic, leisurely & convenient place... this is it! read more

With the free parking and breakfast, it's a better deal than a regular hotel (which some hotels / bed and breakfasts don't include). This place is in the heart of activities in St. Augustine. Very well centered! The owners are very hospitable and practically beg you to give them a challenge. We will be back here again! It could not have been any better. This stay felt like a blessing. So glad we decided to stay here. The hosts were so pleasant and inviting. Jerry gave us the keys and showed us to our room. They upgraded us! I was excited for that surprise. With that came a big bathroom and double headed shower, king size bed, bright natural sunlight, and porch. Brought our stuff in, went out on St. George street which we were pretty much there, and came back in time for the social hour at 5pm with wine or beer. After dinner we people watched from the house porch which had pretty plants and a water feature. It was fun getting to know the owner. The following morning we had blueberry pancakes with a pineapple glaze. Hubs had sausage and orange juice with his. So delicious. They also have snacks and drinks on hand. Oh and for the coffee drinkers, they have coffee pretty much when you want it. (No offense to people who love kids but - this was a kids free zone) read more

Location, location, location! Did I mention great location! Barbara and staff were lovely. Barbara made sure to ask everyday if there was anything we needed. They accommodated our diet (pescatarian/vegetarian) with no issue. Guest during our stay were respectful of quiet hours and quite otherwise. Room was comfortable and clean. I am a huge fan of staying in Bed and Breakfasts and Airbnbs to get the full experience of the town I am staying in. I have had amazing experiences so far, until now. Before my husband and I stepped foot on the property we were told we could only unpack in the parking area and had to park in back. We had to convince management that we'd prefer that our car stay with us. When we arrived, there's no one to be found. I never saw a single person in management during my stay. We check in with a key that was left for us and via phone with the manager/owner. I was a little disappointed to find there was no mini fridge, but that wasn't a deal breaker. We searched in the main house for water and couldn't find any, never received anything complimentary. On our first night we were awakened by a screaming man that was locked out of his room. The walls are paper thin and it was a nightmare. This went on for several hours. I called management/owner to get a new room and he said he was booked full. The following day after touring all day in the heat, we came into our room with the A.C. Broken. We called management again and they said no one would be out to fix it until the following day. I asked for a new room or refund for that night since it was well over 80 degrees. They again told me they were booked full and they would have to reach out to the owner for refund. I never heard anything back. I paid $300 per night, I would rather have stayed in a hotel. This is the worst traveling experience I have ever had. read more

From the moment we were greeted by the smell of fresh-baked cookies until we departed, replete from the home-made, delicious breakfast, Rod & Jerry made us feel right at home. We stayed in Papa's room, which is in the carriage house; there's a covered balcony & onsight parking (bonus!). The room is immaculate & there's a gorgeous two-person shower in the newly renovated bathroom. The location is super convenient to the fort & the town's other historical attractions. Jerry's knowledge of Flagler & the town's history is amazing, so if you're interested, be sure to ask him about it! Rod is a culinary genius; the Turkey-Ham Eggs Benedict Casserole with Hollandaise is mouthwatering! We can't wait to come back for his famous pumpkin pancakes! Great B&B! Perfect Location! My husband and I stayed one night here. We are locals and needed a night away and St Augustine is our favorite place to go! This B&B was in a perfect location. Close to everything in the historic downtown area without a lot of noise. The person who checked in was extremely nice and welcoming. We were shown around to where everything was in regards to the inn. We had snacks, drinks and ice at our disposal. They had a wine hour. We had a cute room with a private balcony. The price was definitely right and we would definitely stay here again! The breakfast was amazing. They definitely take pride in their cooking. Our breakfast was fantastic! read more

My girlfriend and I were able to get away for a weekend and had an phenomenal stay at the Hemingway House. The owners were the nicest people and gave great recommendations. They served an AMAZING homemade breakfast that was better than anything we could've gotten elsewhere and have a really cool "social hour" with complimentary beer and wine.
